INA L. BURLEY
SANDY SPRING - Ina Lee (Crites) Burley, 92, formerly of Cumberland, and Brookeville, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at the Friends Nursing Home, Sandy Spring.
Born May 26, 1905, at Moorefield, she was the daughter of the late William Crites and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Crites. Her husband, Matthew M. Burley, died in 1955. She also was preceded in death by two sons; one sister; and one brother.

Mrs. Burley was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Cumberland.

Surviving are one son, Roy M. Burley, Isle of Palms, S.C.; two daughters, Patricia Lee Seay, Rochester Hills, Mich., and Ina B. Lyons, Brookeville; four sisters, Inez Martin and Genevieve Long, both of Cumberland, Evelyn Marcus, Baltimore, and Mary Elizabeth Snyder, Deerfield Beach, Fla.; one brother, Nathien Crites, Aberdeen; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Davis Memorial cemetery on Saturday, March 14, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas K. White officiating.

The family requests that memorials take the form of non-profit donations to Stabler Hall, c/o Friends Nursing Home, 17340 Quaker Lane, Sandy Spring, MD 20860.

The Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

DAISY A. BURNS
CUMBERLAND - Daisy A. Burns, 71, of Massachusetts Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born July 12, 1927, in Fort Ashby, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Ethel (Kesner) Aldridge.

Mrs. Burns was retired from the Second National Bank, Cumberland. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Bank, and was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, John O. "Pat" Burns; one sister, Carol Newman and husband, James, Wayne, Pa.; one brother, John S. Aldridge and wife, Judy, Cresaptown; one niece, Tammy Seeley, Texas; and four nephews, John S. Aldridge and wife, Barbara, Gaithersburg, W. Steve Hidey and wife, Sue, Cumberland, Robert Hidey and wife, Debbie, Cumberland, and James Newman, Wayne.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul cemetery.

HAZEL C. BUSKIRK
FROSTBURG - Hazel C. Buskirk, 81, of 22 McCulloh St., Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 13, 1916, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Morgan) Crowe. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah (Crowe) Noonan.

Mrs. Buskirk was formerly employed in the Twisting Department of the Celanese Fibers Corp. She attended the Church of the Brethren, Frostburg, and was a member of Farrady Unit 24 Ladies Auxiliary, Frostburg, and Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Cumberland.

Surviving are her husband, Charles O. "Chill" Buskirk Sr.; one son, Charles Buskirk Jr., Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Edna Bittington, Wrights Crossing, and Mildred Durr, Pocahontas Road; one brother, Orville Crowe, Frostburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

NONA M. BUTTS
BARBERTON, Ohio - Nona M. (Kyle) Butts, 81, of Barberton, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Doylestown Health Care Center, Doylestown.
Born April 3, 1917, in Frostburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Irvin Kyle and Margaret (Skidmore) Kyle. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Butts; and sister, Mildred Steele.

Mrs. Butts was a member of the Barberton VFW 1066 Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Dona J. and Jack Oxford, Barberton, and Ruth and Larry Willoughby, Wyoming; grandchildren, Julie (Duane) Wyckoff, Akron Ohio, Melanie (Darrell) Newman, Diamond, Ohio, Kathryn (Mike) Spellman, Akron, Jack Jr. (Beth) Oxford, Barberton, Douglas Jr. (Sue) Oxford, Oakland, Md., Lee Thomas (Stacey) Oxford, Delaware, and Sue Ann Oxford, California; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Kyle (Margaret); and special friends, Ann Conrad, Bo White, Larry, Mike and Paul Conrad.

Gravesides services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at noon at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, near Flintstone, Md.

Services were handled by the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Ave., Barberton, Ohio.

FRANK J. BYER
LAVALE - Frank John Byer, 82, of LaVale, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 27, 1998, at Memorial Hospital after a two-month illness.
Born Dec. 13, 1915, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Cora (Mickey) Byer. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Borchert and Eleanor Perry..

Mr. Byer was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1933, where he was a member of the band, choral octet, choir and orchestra.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 at the Bethesda Naval Hospital as a medical corpsman, and was called to Portsmouth, Va., to play trumpet in the Commanders Navy Dance Band.

He was employed at the Celenese Corp. as supervisor of the Color Lab for 48« years before his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of LaVale Baptist Church for 48 years. He organized the first youth choir at the church in the early 1950s and directed the adult choir for 25 years. He served as music leader of the church for 45 years and taught the Magii Mens Bible Class for 25 years. He was a lay speaker in the area, having preached in many different churches in Cumberland, Frostburg, Lonaconing and Barrelville.

He was one of the founders of the Western Baptist Association Youth Camp and served for 33 years in various capacities, with the majority being its director.

He served as moderator for the Western Baptist Association for several years and as Sunday School and Training Union Director for the Western Baptist Association.

He served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the present LaVale Baptist Church and as the Chairman of the Trustees of the church.

He was a member of the Promise Keepers.

His music career spanned his entire life. As a talented, trained musician, he was a vocalist and trumpet player. He played trumpet with Marty Flynn and the Society Ramblers Band and with the Jim Andrews Dance Band. In his prime, he was known as the most talented trumpeter in the Cumberland area. He gave private trumpet instructions in his home for 10 years.

His musical career included singing bass with the Cumberland Choral Society, and being Director of Music with his daughter at the Grace Community Church for one year. He also served as a band parent chaperone for the Allegany High School Band for a number of years.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Tri-State Community Concert Series.

He served as President of the Penn Avenue PTA and directed two minstrel shows at Fort Hill High School during this time.

He was actively involved in the Masonic Fraternity having served as Master of Ohr Lodge 131 AF & AM in 1969 and as secretary for the past 32 years. He also was a member of the Cumberland Consistory of Scottish Rite and served in the Grand Line of Officers for the Grand Lodge of Maryland.

He served as Patron of Cumberland Chapter 56 Order of the Eastern Star with his daughter who was Worthy Matron.

He served as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the First People's Community Federal Credit Union.

He enjoyed woodworking, birdwatching and gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Emily V. (Bane) Byer; two sons, Steven, at home, and Frank W. and wife Sandy, Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Linda Croft and husband Charlie, LaVale; several nieces and nephews; and his special canine friend, Zachary.

His life revolved around his church, his family, his music and his lodge. He was a friend to all and will be sadly missed.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Services will be conducted at the LaVale Baptist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Strother officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

OES Cumberland Chapter 56 will hold a service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
