LAWRENCE BROWNING
CUMBERLAND - Lawrence William Browning, 43, of Cumberland, died April 10, 1998, at his home.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1954, in Shirley, Mass., to Holly Browning and Shirley (Streett) Browning.
Larry is survived by his spouse, Nancy Browning; step-daughter, Christy Watson, at home; sons, Brian Browning, Russell Browning; daughter, Tracey Browning, Hancock; grandmother, Maybelle Streett; uncles, Albert Streett, Bill Streett; brothers, Steve Browning, Charles Browning, both of Columbia, Kenny Browning, Baltimore; also, a niece; and nephews.
Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He participated in Boy Scouts for 30 years and was active in local chapters of Trout Unlimited, Cresaptown Eagles and Sportsman's Club, Cumberland Elks, Frostburg Moose Lodge, and was a member of LaVale United Methodist Church. Larry was most proud of the 24 years he served as a Department of Natural Resources Officer.
Friends were received at the Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home Inc., 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, on Monday. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with visitation prior to the services from 2 to 5 p.m.
EARL E. CHANEY
CUMBERLAND - Earl E. Chaney, 87, of Mary Street, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Mountain Lake Park.
Born Jan. 25, 1911, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Walter Leo and Nettie (Moore) Chaney. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella Helen Chaney on July 24, 1996.
Mr. Chaney was a retired general foreman for the B&O; Railroad after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Railroad Breakfast Club, Cumberland Eagles, and the Cumberland Moose Lodge. Mr. Chaney's favorite hobby was raising fruit in the Germany Valley of Pendleton County, W.Va. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed his many fishing trips to Canada.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. Royce E. Chaney and wife, the Rev. Melba Chaney, Grand Island, N.Y.; one daughter, Sherry R. Chaney, DeSoto, Mo.; four grandchildren, Mark E. Melanson and wife, Nancy, Wilmington, Del., Todd M. Melanson and wife, Jacqueline, Minneapolis, Minn., April A. Walls and husband Eric, DeSoto, Jessica W. Baldwin, Frederick; three great-grandchildren, Justin C. Walls, Eric Brent Walls Jr., Rachel Faye Walls; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Max Greenfield officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gary Judy, Jeremy Judy, Mike Hast, Harold Hipsley and David Goldsborough.
The family requests contributions be made to the Christ United Methodist Church.
DAVID E. BRUCE
CUMBERLAND - David E. Bruce, 50, of 506 Maryland Ave., Cumberland, died Dec. 15, 1998, due to a heart attack; his home then caught fire.
He had two children, a son, deceased. His daughter survives. Other survivors are his father, mother, three brothers, and three sisters.
David attended Catholic schools, earning an award as the most outstanding alter boy of the year. He had been a building contractor. He had worked with Boy Scouts of America, himself earning every merit badge offered. He was an Eagle Scout.
David attended St. Marys Catholic Church, Cumberland, until he became house bound.
Funeral arrangements are with Gasch's Funeral Home, Hyattsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Peters Catholic Church, Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at noon.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Allegany County League for Crippled Children, Cumberland.
The family expresses gratitude to all who came to David's aid.
ALVIN P. "RED" BRUNER
CUMBERLAND - Alvin P. "Red" Bruner, 72, of Cumberland, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 2, 1925, in Cumberland Valley Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Calvin Perry Bruner and the late Bertha Viola (Oliver) Bruner. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Collins.
Mr. Bruner was a retired backhoe operator for Columbia Gas Co. He was a member of the Utility Workers of America. He was a lifetime member of Fort Hill Rifle Club. As an avid sportsman, his passion was hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a wife, Mildred "Billie" (Winfield) Bruner, Cumberland; a son, Ronald L. Bruner, Cumberland; a brother, Joseph Bruner and wife Doris, Cumberland; a sister, Grace DeMoss and husband Fred, Duncansville, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with Father Vance Pastorius, OFM, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
EFFIE A. BRUNER
GRANTSVILLE - Effie A. Bruner, 89, formerly of 16088 Bittinger Road, Grantsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 25, 1909, in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Almeda Eisle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Bruner; and a son, William Bruner.
Mrs. Bruner was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Grantsville and was the retired co-owner and operator of Bruner's Store, Grantsville. She was also a former owner of the Tastee Bakery, Frostburg.
She is survived by a son, Don Eisler, New Castle, Pa.; six grandchildren, Russell Eisler, Macon, N.C., John Eisler and Barbara Blair, both of Youngsville, N.C., Sylvia Kurinka, Boden, Pa., James Eisler, Butler, Pa., and Kimberly Glotfelty, Grantsville; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, with the Rev. William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

ROBERT E. BRYAN SR.
LUKE - Robert E. Bryan Sr., 88, of Nevison Ave., Luke, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where he had been a resident.
Born Dec. 10, 1909, he was the son of the late James Albert and Emma Lee (Yost) Bryan. He also was preceded in death by two sons, James and Jerome; and eight brothers and sisters.
Mr. Bryan was retired with approximately 50 years of service from the Westvaco Corp., where he had been a supervisor. He was a member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder. He was a member of Kelly Mansfield Post 52, American Legion; and the Westernport Senior Citizens. He was instrumental in organizing SCAMPS. He also was instrumental in organizing and was involved with the AFL/CIO Local 676 United Paperworkers.
Surviving are his wife, Olive May (Kackley) Bryan; one son, Robert Bryan Jr. and wife Betty, Westernport; two daughters, Marlene Santo, Cumberland, and Beverly Stimmel and husband George, Oldtown; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Bryan's body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held at the Piedmont Presbyterian Church, Piedmont, W.Va., on Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Ervin Huston.
Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Park, LaVale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.
