WORCESTER -- Benjamin Matan Bornstein, four month old son of William and Lisa (Perlman) Bornstein, of 118 Newton Ave. North, died Monday, Dec. 17, as a result of complications from congenital heart disease at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
Besides his parents, he leaves his maternal grandparents, Robert and Joan (Rosenbaum) Perlman of Worcester; and his paternal grandparents, Edward and Sandra (Stahl) Bornstein of Danvers. He was born in Worcester.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'Nai Brith Cemetery. Memorial observance will be held through Monday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Perlman, 118 Newton Ave. North. LEOMINSTER -- Barbara M. (Reary) Branagan, 79, of 44 Starr St., died Monday, Dec. 17, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Fitchburg, after a long illness.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, Charles J. Branagan; a son, Paul R. Branagan of Lewiston, Maine; two daughter, Diane Marrama of Portsmouth, N.H., and M. Lauren Dupuis of Leominster; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Leonard and Albina (Parquette) Reary. She graduated from Leominster High School in 1940.
Mrs. Branagan was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. WORCESTER -- Arthur L. Cardinal, 76, of 104 Randolph Road, formerly of 485 Grove St., died Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Odd Fellows Home after an illness.
He leaves a son, Arthur L. Cardinal Jr., of East Brookfield; two daughters, Linda Masiello of Worcester and Sheila Fahey of East Brookfield; two brothers, Walter Cardinal of Bellingham and Clement Cardinal of Essex Junction, Vt.; two sisters, Rita Weston of Essex Junction, Vt., and Rolande LeClair of Terryville, Conn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Morris, Romeo, Rene, and Albert Cardinal and two sisters, Florence Campbell and Lauretta Mosher, predeceased him. He was born in Winooski, Vt., son of Hercules and Delphina (Versailla) Cardinal, and moved to Worcester in 1952 and to then to Spencer in 1963. He returned to Worcester in 1990. He attended schools in Vermont.
Mr. Cardinal worked for Saint Pierre Chain in Worcester for 27 years, before he retired 1990. He had previously worked for Jamesbury Corp. for 16 years, and worked part time for many years at Parker Manufacturing.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. ATHOL -- Duane L. Chiasson, 53, of 955 Cottage St., a Vietnam veteran, died Friday, Dec. 14, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth A. (Muzzy) Chiasson; two sons, Joseph W. Chiasson and Andre D. Chiasson, both of Athol; a daughter, Mary J. Chiasson-Sullivan; two brothers, Ronald J. Chiasson and William Chiasson, both of Ludlow; a sister, Rita M. Chiasson of New Brunswick, Canada; three stepbrothers, Jerry, Val and Will Godin, all of Athol; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Gardner, son of J. William and Mary J. (Boudreau) Chiasson, and lived most of his life here. He attended Athol schools and Andover Academy. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Chiasson owned and operated Athol Plumbing & Heating for many years, and managed the company until he became ill. Previously, he worked nine years at L.S. Starrett Co. He was active in town government, serving on the Finance Committee, the Building Committee, Needs Assessment Committee and the Athol Housing Authority. He enjoyed antiques, collecting post cards and attending flea markets and auctions.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in Silver Lake Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UMass Cancer Center, PO Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613.

NORTHBORO -- Edward D. Cleary Jr., 74, of 22 Lawrence St., a World War II veteran, died Friday, Dec. 14, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Pauline G. (Jeffries) Cleary; two sons, John J. Cleary of Southboro and Edward D. Cleary III of Northboro; a daughter, Beverly Ann Potter of Cape Coral, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in San Francisco, son of Edward D. and Della (Monahan) Cleary, and was raised in Worcester before moving to Northboro in 1955. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Cleary worked at Westboro State Hospital, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Leland-Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Andrew J. Collaro Sr., 91, of 31 Granby Road, former state representative for the 15th Worcester District, died Sunday Dec. 16, in St. Francis Home after an illness.
His wife of 70 years, Rose (DiPilato) Collaro, died in 1998. He leaves two sons, Andrew Collaro Jr. and Richard Collaro, both of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Rose M. Carelli of Worcester; two brothers, James Collaro of Worcester and Tripoli "Trip" Collaro of Richmond, Calif; a sister, Anne Martin of San Roman, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Anthony and Joseph Collaro, and a sister, Theresa DeCesare, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Anillo and Jennie (Ascione) Collaro. He graduated from Worcester public schools. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Collaro represented the 15th Worcester District for more than 28 years, retiring in 1992. He previously worked for American Steel and Wire Co. During his term as state representative, he supported labor, the mentally disabled, education and elder affairs. He was instrumental in the establishment of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester in 1968. In 1994, he received the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award from the Democratic City Committee. In 1999, the walking track at Quinsigamond State Park was named after him. He served as vice chairman of the House committee on counties and the House rules committee, and he was a member of other House committees. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, The Men's Biscegliese Society, the Brown Square Civic Club, Worcester Democratic City Committee, a founding member of the East Side Improvement Club, a member of the Pope John XXIII Council Knights of Columbus, the 4th degree Bishop O'Reilly Assembly and The Lodge 168 Order Sons of Italy.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. FITCHBURG -- George W. Crockford Jr., 77, of 91 Marshall Road, a World War II veteran, died Sunday, Dec. 16, in HealthAlliance -- Leominster Hospital after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Claire J. (Boeckh) Crockford; two daughters, Jane C. Sciola of Andover and Joyce E. Smith of Falmouth; two sisters, Dorothy Talvianen of Westminster and Barbara Gross of El Cajon, Calif.; and two granddaughters. A son, Jeffrey A. Crockford, died in 1967. He was born in Leominster, son of George W. and Dorothy (Heald) Crockford, and lived most of his life here. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1942 and attended Cushing Academy, Worcester Junior College and Lowell Technical School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy. He also served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Mr. Crockford worked 31 years at the former Crocker-Burbank, Weyerhauser and James River Paper Co., retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Charles W. Moore Lodge of Masons and the United Paper Makers Union. He enjoyed bowling and listening to music.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. SUTTON -- Joseph E. DiGirolamo, 60, of 74 Whitin Road, formerly of Lucia Drive in Milford, died Thursday, Dec. 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.
His wife, Janet S. (Fournier) DiGirolamo, died in 1999. He leaves a son, Joseph E. DiGirolamo Jr. of Milford; a daughter, Julie A. Hodgkins of Sutton; two brothers, Nicholas A. DiGirolamo of Uxbridge and Barry Walden of Brockton; four sisters, Anne Harrison of Hopedale, Marie Williams of Wareham, Joanne DiRamio of Ashland and Linda Walden of Gilbert, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces; and his stepmother, Frances DiGirolamo of Ashland. He was born in Milford, son of Nicholas DiGirolamo and Anna (Dixon) DiGirolamo Walden, and lived most of his life in Milford before moving to Sutton six months ago. He attended Milford High School.
Mr. DiGirolamo worked more than 28 years at the General Motors assembly plant in Framingham, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Milford, the United Auto Workers union, and the Happy Hookers Bass Club.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, from Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St., Milford, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main St., Milford. WEST BOYLSTON -- Laura M. Drown, 91, of Worcester Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nurse Center after an illness.
She leaves several cousins. Her sister, Margaret Drown, died in 1992. She was born in Johnson, Vt., daughter of Carroll H. and Lessie (Davis) Drown, and lived in West Boylston for 53 years. She graduated from Hopedale High School, Atlantic Union College with a secretarial, teaching and religion degree.
Miss Drown was a secretary and accountant for the Southern New England Conference, Atlantic Union Conference, South Lancaster Academy and Atlantic Union College. She was a member of Worcester Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was its former treasurer for many years. She was a member of West Boylston History Society and served as its treasurer for many years. She was a member of West Boylston Women's Club, Just Friends, Friends of the Beaman Memorial Library, all in West Boylston, and Forebush Bird Club of Worcester.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in the Worcester Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2 Airport Drive, Worcester. Burial will be in Hopedale Village Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Queenie (Markarian) Eknaian, 78, of 20 Claridge Road, died Friday, Dec. 14, in Knollwood Nursing Home.
She leaves her husband of 42 years, Harry Eknaian; a son, Harry M. Eknaian of Worcester; and a nephew, George Markarian Jr. of Boston. A brother, George Markarian of Worcester, died in April. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Serop and Victoria (Toudanjian) Markarian, and graduated from Commerce High School.
Mrs. Eknaian worked for Town and Country Cleaners and Columbia Cleaners. She was a member of Holy Trinity Armenian Church, its Women's Guild and AYF, and was a former member of the church's choir.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 635 Grove St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. EASTON, Md. -- Anna (Gosselin) Murray Estey, 92, of William Hill Manor, formerly of Fitchburg, Mass., died Sunday, Dec. 16, in her home, after an illness.
Her first husband of 21 years, William H. Murray died in 1956. Her second husband of 10 years, Horace S. Estey, died in 1973. She leaves a son, Peter H. Murray of St. Michaels; two grandchildren, Karen M. Murray and R. Chase Murray, both of St. Louis, Mo.; eleven nieces and nephews. A son, Richard P. Murray died in 1997. She was born in Disraeli, Quebec, Canada, daughter of George and Armina (Roberge) Gosselin and lived in Fitchburg from 1909 to 1963, Louisville, Kentucky, from 1963 to 1997, and Easton since 1997. She attended parochial schools in Fitchburg. She graduated from the former Stevens Business College, Fitchburg.
Mrs. Estey was the co-founder and past president of the Kentucky Professional Engineers, Louisville, Kentucky, Auxiliary. She was a two-term board member of the Senior House, Dosker Manor, Louisville, and a member of the Pendennis Club, the Woman's Club, and the Queen's Daughters, all of Louisville. She was a former member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg. FITCHBURG -- Ted T. Fuhs Jr., 48, of 60 Glen Ave., died Friday, Dec. 14, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus after a long battle with leukemia.
He leaves his wife of 26 years, Terri (Dupuis) Fuhs; a son, Karl Fuhs of Fitchburg; a daughter, Mindy Fuhs of Fitchburg; three brothers, Garrett "Rusty" Fuhs of Fitchburg, Gregory D. Fuhs of Lunenburg and Kevin R. Fuhs of West Yarmouth; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Edward T. and Irene (Davis) Fuhs, and lived his entire life in the Fitchburg-Leominster area. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1971.
Mr. Fuhs worked 26 years as a special projects manager for Digital Equipment Co., Maynard. He also worked as a lead supervisor for Hutchinson Leasing Co., Ayer. He was the proprietor of Affordable Landscaping, Leominster. He was a member of Fitchburg Church of the Nazarene, the Fraternal Order Eagles and the South Fitchburg Social Club. He coached girl's basketball in the Leominster Recreation League.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a service at 11 a.m. in Fitchburg Church of the Nazarene, 800 South St. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster.
