Donato Bernardone, 70

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Donato D. "Danny" Bernardone, 70, of Fort Myers, formerly of Southbridge, Mass., died Monday, Dec. 3, in Fort Myers.
He leaves his wife, Marguerite Bernardone; a son, David Bernardone of Amherst, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Bernardone of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren; and three nephews. He was born in Southbridge, son of Antonio and Lucia Bernardone, and lived there before moving to Florida in 1987. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Bernardone worked for New England Telephone, retiring in 1987. He was a Southbridge politician, and served three years as a selectman and 12 years as town assessor. He was responsible for establishing the Tri-Link drug program in 1970. He was a trustee of Westboro (Mass.) State Hospital.

Thomas E. Boyle, 40

BOYLSTON -- Thomas E. Boyle, 40, of Boylston, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester.
He leaves his mother, Marion L. Boyle of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a son, Matthew J. Boyle of West Boylston; a brother, James W. Boyle Jr. of Danielson, Conn.; a brother, James W. Boyle Jr. of Danielson; a sister, Cynthia H. Zolenski of Pomfret, Conn.; a niece and a nephew. He was born in Hartford, and lived many years in Enfield, Conn., before moving to Boylston in 1987. He graduated from the University of Connecticut.
The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield. Donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 920 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107.

Agnes (Benoit) Clarkson-Brennan, 75, of 15 Souther Drive, will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours are 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the funeral home.
Mrs. Clarkson-Brennan died Thursday, Dec. 6, at her home, after an illness. Her husband, Harry Brennan, died in 1999. She leaves a son, Dennis Clarkson of Worcester; a brother, Robert A. Benoit of Spencer; two sisters, Claire P. Kobel of Millbury and Constance M. Richard of Shrewsbury; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nephews and nieces. A brother, Arthur Benoit of Spencer, died last year. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Arthur and Flora (LaMontagne) Benoit.
Mrs. Clarkson-Brennan was a supervisor in the shoe department at Cherry & Webb for 12 years, retiring many years ago. She previously worked for the Brown Shoe Co. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Virginia B. Eley, 81

WORCESTER -- Virginia B. (Britt) Eley, 81, of 316 Coburn Ave., formerly of Franklin, Va., died Friday, Dec. 7, in Marlboro Hospital, after an illness.
Her husband, Herbert L. Eley, died in 1956. She leaves three sons, Madison Eley of St. Petersburg, Fla., Glen Eley of Norfolk, Va., and Frank Eley of Sterling; two daughters, Linda Ferrebee of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mary Urquhart of Worcester; a brother, Cyrus Britt of Newark, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Herbert Eley, died in 1991. She was born in Como, N.C., daughter of Charlie and Della (Hunt) Britt, and lived in Franklin, Va., before moving to Worcester in 1990.
Mrs. Eley worked at Franklin Hospital and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, both in Franklin, Va.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, in William M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 224 South Main St., Franklin, Va. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery. Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, is directing local arrangements.

PUTNAM -- Leonard G. Ethier, 72, of 73 North Main St., a Korean War veteran, died Monday, Dec. 10, in Roncalli Health Care, Danielson.
His wife, Irene (Nadeau) Ethier, died in 1999. He leaves a nephew, Jerome Ethier of Pomfret Center. He was born in Putnam, son of Alexis and Philomena (LeClair) Ethier, and lived his entire life here. He graduated from St. Mary School and Marianapolis Preparatory School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Ethier and his wife owned and operated Everybody's Spa. Previously, he worked at Ivanhoe Tool & Die, Chuett & Peabody and Montgomery Ward. He was a private pilot and an accomplished pianist. He enjoyed model planes and was a member of the Yankee Flyers, St. Mary Church of the Visitation and the Monsignor Jean C. Mathieu Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 14, from Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery. William A. Farnsworth Sr.; World War II vet

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. -- William A. Farnsworth Sr., 86, of Neptune Beach, formerly of 196 Monomonac Road, Winchendon, Mass., a World War II veteran and a retired business owner and operator, died Friday, Dec. 7, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Jacksonville.
His wife, Ellyn (Cooper) Farnsworth, died in April. He leaves a son, William A. Farnsworth Jr. of Neptune Beach; two daughters, Chandra Farnsworth of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Kathy Gregory of Wickford, R.I.; an adopted daughter, Hiroko Sakai of New York City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was born in Keene, N.H., son of Albert Farnsworth and Rebecca (Hill) Legoff Farnsworth, and lived in Gardner, Mass., Winchendon, and DeLand before moving to Neptune Beach nine months ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Farnsworth operated an independent insurance business in Winchendon before retiring. He was an adult leader for 20 years with the Boy Scouts in Gardner and was active in the Senior Center in Jacksonville Beach. He was an amateur radio operator, using the handle W1KOT, and was active in many military networks. He was a member of Hope Lodge of Masons, Ivanhoe Commandery, the Royal Arch Chapter, and the Harris Council, all in Gardner, Aleppo Temple of Wilmington, Mass., and the Gardner Shrine Club. He was also a member of First Congregational Church of Gardner and the Kiwanis Club of Winchendon.
The private funeral service will be held in Florida. A memorial service will be held in Gardner at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, N.H. CHARLTON -- Walter H. Freudenthal, 86, of 21 Turner Road, a former electrical worker, died Saturday, Dec. 8, at home after an illness.
His wife of 53 years, Bernice A. (Eddy) Freudenthal, died in 1997. He leaves four daughters, Sandra Sullivan-Turmelle of Charlton, Susanne Sheehan of Dudley, Arline Freudenthal of Webster and Ann Lee of Newbury; a brother, Floyd Freudenthal of California; a sister, Virginia Loranger of Oxford; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Almon H. and Maude (Saunders) Freudenthal, and lived many years in Charlton.
Mr. Freudenthal worked 40 years for Massachusetts Electric, retiring in 1977.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Robert J. Miller Funeral Home, 247 Main St., Oxford. Burial will be in Greenville Baptist Cemetery, Rochdale. RUTLAND -- Daniel J. Griffin, 66, of 8 Sassawanna Road, formerly of Worcester, a retired Worcester firefighter, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after a battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Patricia A. (Granlund) Griffin; two daughters, Susan A. Griffin of Centerville and Patricia A. Griffin of Rutland; two sons, John J. Griffin of Holden and Joseph D. Griffin of New Braintree; three sisters, Barbara Trombley in Maine, Agnes Quaglieri of Shrewsbury and Mary Dupere of Epsom, N.H.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Claire Hallisey, predeceased him. He was born in Manchester, N.H., son of John J. and Catherine (Fullen) Griffin, and lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Rutland in 1994. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School with a concentration in carpentry. He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
Mr. Griffin was a member of the Worcester Fire Department for 33 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1977. He worked out of the Eastern Avenue and Grafton Street stations. He previously had worked as a carpenter.
Mr. Griffin was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, and a former member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Worcester. He was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and was a member of the Local 1009, International Fire Fighters. He was a member of the Worcester Pistol and Rifle Club, the Eight Point Sportsman's Club and the Rutland Sportsman's Club.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the funeral home. John J. Hadley, 77; World War II veteran

HUDSON, Fla. -- John J. Hadley, 77, of Hudson, formerly of Webster, Mass., died Friday, Nov. 30, at home.
He leaves his wife, Theresa (Germain) Hadley; three sons, John and Robert Hadley, both of Webster, and William Hadley of Danielson, Conn.; a daughter, Arlene Pechie of Auburn, Mass.; two stepsons, Bernard Germain of Oxford, Mass., and Donald Germain of Webster; three brothers, Robert Hadley of Webster, Richard Hadley of Hyannis, Mass., and David Hadley of Southbridge, Mass.; four sisters, Muriel Cox of Arlington, Va., Virginia McCallum of Leicester, Mass., Sandra Natale and Dawn Jorgenson, both of Worcester, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester and lived in Webster before moving here 14 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hadley was a custom woodworker.
He was a life member of Joel H. Prouty Lodge of Masons in Auburn, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5663 and American Legion Post 400, both in Oxford, and the United States Armed Guard Veterans of World War II.

HOPKINTON -- Rachel A. LeBeau, 78, of Hopkinton, formerly of Northboro, a former executive secretary, died Monday, Dec. 10, at home.
Her husband, Roland A. LeBeau, died in 1968. She leaves a daughter, Carolyn A. Jarosz of Southboro; a brother, Roland Lapierre of Auburn; a sister, Marie Flammand of Worcester; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Andrew Lapierre, and a sister, Simone Fountain, predeceased her. She was born in Quebec, Canada, daughter of Achiles and Alberta (Gaudreau) Poulliot, and lived several years in Northboro before moving to Hopkinton.
Mrs. LeBeau worked 25 years as an executive secretary at Norton Co., Worcester. Previously, she was an executive secretary at Digital Equipment Corp. She was a member of the Brampton Club, serving many years as its treasurer. She enjoyed boating, camping and knitting.
A funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 14, from Chesmore Funeral Home, 57 Hayden St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in Northboro Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the funeral home.

NORTHBRIDGE -- Norman L. Lightbown, 81, formerly of West Street in the Whitinsville section, and a World War II veteran, died Sunday, Dec. 9, in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after an illness.
His wife of 52 years, Florence (Blaine) Lightbown, died in 1992. He leaves a son, Allan Lightbown of Whitinsville; a daughter, Doris M. Ducharme of Whitinsville; two brothers, Frank Lightbown of Florida and Irving Lightbown of Whitinsville; three sisters, Shirley Hanna of Whitinsville and Dorothy Tattersall and Betty Bisson, both of New Hampshire; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A son, Edward F. Lightbown, and a sister, Pauline Lightbown, predeceased him. He was born in Whitinsville, son of Frank and Ethel (Brooks) Lightbown, and lived his entire life here. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Lightbown worked 45 years as a planner for Whitin Machine Works, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church. He was also a member of the Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus and enjoyed sports and playing cards.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, from Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. WEBSTER -- Victor J. Lord, 95, formerly of 7 Armandale St., Worcester, a retired toolmaker, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Lanessa Nursing Home, 751 School St.
His wife, Lillian (Monigle) Lord, died in 1975. He leaves a brother, Louis Lord of Worcester; two sisters, Rosalba LaBarge of Paxton and Winnifred Lord of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Oscar Lord, and two sisters, Albina Goodney and Rosalma Wennerberg, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Louis and Marion (Lauzier) Lord.
Mr. Lord worked 47 years as a toolmaker for Reed & Price Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1970. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, Worcester, the Leicester Senior Citizens and the Golden Club of Auburn.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Hope Cemetery, Webster St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
Virginia McMillan

GROSSE POINTE, Mich. -- Virginia (Cutting) McMillan, 87, of Grosse Pointe, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Monday, Dec. 10, in Grosse Pointe.
She leaves her husband, James McMillan; a son, Francis W. McMillan of Grosse Pointe Shores; a daughter, Virginia McMillan Lambrecht of Grosse Pointe Shores; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester. She graduated from the Bancroft School and Clark University, both in Worcester.
Mrs. McMillan was a member of the Cottage Hospital Board of Trustees for many years, and was later an honorary trustee. She was active with the Women's Committee of the Detroit Institute of Arts, and chaired the Colonial Dames project in Detroit.
She was a state skeet shooting champion, and enjoyed golf and tennis. She was an accomplished pianist, gardener, and flower arranger.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms.
