Edward Hans Kovar, 81

BEDFORD -- Edward Hans Kovar, 81, of Bedford, formerly of Auburn and Slingerlands, N.Y., a retired engineer, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Carleton Willard Village, Bedford.
His wife, June (Gaskell) Kovar, predeceased him. He leaves two daughters, Marilyn J. Kozak of Lexington and Deborah A. Jicha of Falmouth, Maine; two sisters, Charlotte K. Hammond of Asheville, N.C. and Ruth L. Morse of Paxton; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Augusta Kovar, and lived many years in Auburn before moving to New York in 1974. He graduated from North High School, Worcester, and Northeastern University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
Mr. Kovar was a valuation engineer for the new York State Department of Public Service, retiring in 1991. He was a Mason and a member of churches in the Worcester area and Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church, Guilderland, N.Y. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and square dancing.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Dec. 1, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

WORCESTER -- Mariyanna (Nosek) Kowalczyk, 73, of 23 Perry Ave., died Friday, Nov. 9, at home.
Her husband of 51 years, Aleksander B. Kowalczyk, died in 1999. She leaves two sons, Stanley J. Kowalczyk of Barre and John M. Kowalczyk of Worcester; two daughters, Donna Wilson and Grace V. Masters, both of Worcester; two brothers, Henryk and Wincenty Nosek, both of Poland; four sisters, Regina Pisarek, Wladza Baldyga, Danka Partas and Halina Nadolny, all of Poland; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. A brother, Stanley Nosek of Poland, died in 1987. She was born and raised in Charubin, Poland, daughter of Jozef and Aleksandra (Chanowski) Nosek, and moved to Worcester in 1961.
Mrs. Kowalczyk was a seamstress 30 years, and worked for Jackson Sportswear Co., and then for Worcester Knitting Co., retiring in 1990.
She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and enjoyed gardening and sewing.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, from Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. GARDNER -- A funeral service for Zigmond Ladroga, 82, of 116 Church St., a retired machinist and World War II veteran, who died Saturday, Nov. 10, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St.

George B. Landry, 49

WORCESTER -- George B. Landry, 49, of 12 Wellington St., died Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Clark Manor Nursing Home after an illness.
He leaves two daughters, Cheri Perron and Angela Pervier, both of Spencer; and five grandchildren. He was born in Ostego, N.Y., son of George and Marion (Cross) Landry.
Mr. Landry was an automobile mechanic.

Harry Langer, 85

BOYLSTON -- Harry Langer, 85, of 904 Edgebrook Drive, a retired mechanical engineer, died Friday, Nov. 9, in Knollwood Nursing Home, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Trudy (Price) Langer; a son, Steven Langer of Alabama; a daughter, Rene Schwartz of N.J.; a brother, Lewis Langer of Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was born in New York, son of Sam and Rose (Acker) Langer, and lived 26 years in Boylston. He graduated from City College of New York, received a master's degree from Columbia University and later earned a doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Langer was a mechanical engineer for Digital Equipment Corp. and RCA Co. for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of Green Hill Country Club, Worcester.
Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery at the family's convenience. Nordgren, Carrigan and Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, is directing.
Rose M. Laraia, 87

WORCESTER -- Rose M. (Arello) Laraia, 87, of 18 East Shelby St., a retired stitcher, died Monday, Nov. 12, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.
Her husband, Artemio Laraia, died in 1975. She leaves three sons, Arthur "Red" Laraia and Robert Laraia, both of Worcester, and Jerry "Butch" Laraia of Freemont, Calif.; a daughter, Theresa M. Laraia of Worcester; four sisters, SantaMiller of Olympia, Wash., and Mary Ducharme, Lena Crowder and Concetta Paquette, all of Worcester; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Joseph and Richard Laraia, two sisters, Lucy Campanile and Ann Nigro, and a brother, Benjamin Arello, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Sebastiano and Pauline (Valvo) Arello, and lived here her entire life.
Mrs. Laraia was a stitcher for many years at the former Davies Handbag Co., before retiring. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church and a devoted attendant of its Miraculous Medal Novena's. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15, from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home & Garden Chapel, 179, Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. LEOMINSTER -- Sam A. Leone, 66, of 56 Burrage Ave., a former tool and die maker, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at his home, after an illness.
His wife of 38 years, Ellen J. (Butler) Leone, died in 1997. He leaves three daughters, Elizabeth T. Adams of Leominster, Phyllis A. Leone of Worcester and Carol J. Leone of Charlestown; his father, Frank Leone of Fitchburg; a sister, Maryann L. Berry of Plant City, Fla.; and two grandchildren. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Filippina T. (Leone) Leone, and lived in Leominster since 1959. He graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School, Fitchburg, in 1953, and served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1957.
Mr. Leone was a tool and die maker for 25 years at Modern Tool and Die Co., and later worked at Marlee Mold Co., retiring in 1991. He then drove a truck for Nasoya Foods, and most recently drove for Need a Lift in Fitchburg. He was a Little League coach, and played baseball for several years for the Philadelphia Phillies Double A baseball team.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at noon in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Yvette Letourneau, 57, of 53 Ward St., died Monday, Nov. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, after an illness.
She leaves a son, Anthony Letourneau of Worcester; a daughter, Melissa Letourneau of Worcester; her parents, William and Lucille (Girard) Letourneau of North Grafton; three brothers, William Letourneau of Grafton, Paul Letourneau of North Grafton, and John Letourneau of Douglas; a sister, Anne Puntanen of Rutland; and two grandchildren. A son, Scott Banfill, and two daughters, Lisa and Christine Banfill, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester and attended Grafton High School.
Ms. Letourneau was a homemaker.

WARREN -- James A. Lizak, 77, of 84 Burbank Ave., a business owner, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at home.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Charlotte (Iupa) Lizak; a daughter, Patricia Drenzek of Ware; four grandchiuldren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Warren, son of Stanley and Sophia (Maj) Lizak, and lived his entire life here. He attended Warren schools and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Lizak owned and operated Warren Dry Cleaners and Launderers, Old West Brookfield Road, Warren, and 58 Main St., Ware. He was a former volunteer with the Warren Fire Department. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8606, the International Fabric Care Institute, and the Saint Stanislaus Society of West Warren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in St. Stanislaus Church, Main Street. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Doherty Funeral Home, 40 Bacon St.

GARDNER -- Dakota Jay Loughman, infant son of Harold Jay Loughman and Brenda (St. John) Minardi of 172 Manca Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 10, shortly after birth in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester.
Besides his parents, he leaves a brother, Dylan Minardi of Gardner; his paternal grandfather, Harold Sherman of Springfield; his maternal grandparents, Kevin and Lorraine (Wirth) Woods of Gardner and Edward St. John of California; aunts and uncles. A brother, Zachary D. Minardi of Gardner, died in 1992.

Anne M. Lugbauer, 86

GARDNER -- Anne M. (Puida) Lugbauer, 86, of Gardner, formerly of 75 High St., a former teacher and accountant, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.
Her husband of 50 years, Carl B. Lugbauer, died in 1992. She leaves a son, Peter C. Lugbauer of East Islip, N.Y.; three daughters, Catherine A. Lugbauer of Amelia Island, Fla., Frances L. Mueller of Ashland and Christine E. Stewart of Salem, N.H.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Anthony S. and Vincenta V. (Sestokas) Puida. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1933 and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northeastern University, Boston, and a master's degree in education from Fitchburg State College.
Mrs. Lugbauer was an accountant at Seidman & Seidman, an accounting firm, and then taught remedial reading at Sacred Heart School. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, South Gardner, and was active in Girl Scouts for many years. She was a former member of Gardner Council on Aging and a member of Wachusett Home Care and the Supper Club.
The funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 16, from John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St. Burial will be in Greenbower Cemetery. FITCHBURG -- Jeannita (Allain) Maguy, 60, of 240 Wanoosnoc Road, died Friday, Nov. 9, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hosptial after being stricken ill at home.
She leaves her mother, Mary (Cormier) Allain of St. Anthony, New Brunswick; her husband of 27 years, Francis D. Maguy; two sons, Mark Nowlan of Florida and Yvon Nowlan of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Adelard Allain of Leominster; six sisters, Florence Goguen, Rita LeBlanc, Gloria and Lea Leger, and Yvonne Caisse, all of New Brunswick, and Edmure Poulin of Quebec; nine grandchildren. She was born in New Brunswick, daughter of Joseph Allain, and lived 42 years in Fitchburg.
Mrs. Maguy had recently worked as a cashier at Kmart in Leominster. She previously worked several years at Bradlees Department Store and Basque Plastics in Leominster.
She attended St. Francis of Assisi Church and St. Joseph Church. She was an avid bingo player.
