The Rev. Gerard Caron

BOSTON -- The Rev. Gerard L.M. Caron, 74, a priest in the Society of Mary of Boston, died Monday, Nov. 12, in a Boston hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
He leaves five brothers, including Conrad Caron of Worcester; six sisters; and several nephews and nieces. He was born in Albion, R.I.
Rev. Caron served in many capacities with the Marist Fathers, as both a priest and a pastor. He was also the director of the Third Order of Mary Society for 13 years, from 1945 to 1958, serving in the Northern Province of America and Canada. While he was the director of the Third Order of Mary he wrote many books on the life of Mary and St. Joseph. Rev. Caron was assigned to the Marist Lourdes Center of Boston in 1988, and he held this position until his retirement.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Provincial Church of Marist Society, Our Lady of Victory Church, Boston. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Brunswick, Maine. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester, is directing local arrangements.
Catherine P. Casa, 85

MOUNT VIEW, Calif. -- Catherine P. (Doldo) Casa, 85, of 460 North Shoreline, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, at home after a brief illness.
Her husband, Anthony F. Casa, died in 1968. She leaves a daughter, Carol M. Sidel of Los Altos, Calif.; two grandchildren, Cheryl L. Sidel-Gibson and Marc D.A. Sidel, both of California; many nieces and nephews in the Worcester area. Two brothers and five sisters predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Carmello and Maria (Longo) Doldo, and moved to California 32 years ago.
She was a former member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church in Worcester.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 75 Alvarado Ave., Worcester. Her nephew, the Rev. Patrick Hawthorne, will be principal celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour is 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the funeral home. MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Gladys E.M. (Schimke) Chapman, 70, of Bodwell Road, formerly of Clinton and Palmer, Mass., a former sales associate, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at her home, after a long illness.
She leaves a daughter, Diane Swinarski of Londonderry; two sons, William Chapman of Monson, Mass., and David Chapman of Palmer; her stepfather, Edward F. Cail of Clearwater, Fla.; a half sister, Marion Peterson of Clearwater; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was born in Clinton, daughter of William J. and Gladys (Weatherbee) Schimke, and lived in Clinton, Palmer and Londonderry before moving to Manchester two years ago.
Mrs. Chapman was a sales associate at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Springfield, Mass. She was a member of St. Jude Parish, Londonderry. She enjoyed making quilts, knitting, macrame and camping.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in St. Jude Church, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. WORCESTER -- Rita T. (Piascik) Chesna, 76, of 22 Fairfax Road, died Sunday, Nov. 11, in Providence Care Center, 119 Providence St., following an illness.
She leaves her husband of 52 years, Louis J. Chesna; a son, Joseph M. Chesna of Jefferson section of Holden; a brother, Peter Piascik of Worcester; a sister, Irenee Wolanski of Worcester; nieces and nephews; and grandnieces. A brother, Alexander Piascik, of Worcester predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Alexander and Sopfia (Wlotkowska) Piascik. She was a graduate of St Mary's High School.
Mrs. Chesna worked in the occupational health office at Lundquist Tool and Die Company. She later worked for many years as the housekeeper at the rectory of Our Lady of Vilna Parish. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Vilna Parish. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, from the Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Nancy J. (Fowler) Clarke, 61, of 9 Simmons Ave., an assembler, died Saturday, Nov. 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
She leaves a daughter, Kim L. McBride of Worcester; a brother, Edgar Fowler of Worcester; a sister, Jean Joy of Worcester; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Edgar R. and Lauren L. (Altonen) Fowler. She attended Commerce High School.
Mrs. Clarke was an assembler for Allegro Micros Systems, Worcester.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Nordgren, Carrigan and Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Dominic B. Colacchio, 69, Korean War veteran

MARLBORO -- Dominic B. "Squeek" Colacchio, 69, of Marlboro, died Monday, Nov. 12, at home.
He leaves his wife, Joan M. (Belmore) Colacchio; a daughter, Donna J. Colacchio of Marlboro; two brothers, Angelo Colacchio of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and Bernard Colacchio of West Covina, Calif.; nephews and nieces. A son, Stephen P. Colacchio, died in 1996. He was born in Marlboro, son of Nicholas and Vincenza (DeBartelemeo) Colacchio. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Colacchio worked 39 years for General Motors Co., Framingham, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of St. Mary's Parish; a member and past commander of Italian American War Veterans and Colleary Post Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member and past president of the Veterans Council of Marlboro; veterans grave registrar for the City of Marlboro; and a member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks and the Retired Employees Association of G.M.
The funeral, with full military honors, will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, from William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 26 Broad St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the funeral home.
William J. Collette, 96

MARLBORO -- William J. Collette, 96, of Marlboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Marlboro Hospital after an illness.
His wife, Anne D. (Wills) Collette, died in 1971. He leaves three sons, William R. Collette of California, Peter R. Collette of West Caldwell, N.J., and David R. Collette of Amherst; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Ten siblings, Edmond, Alfred, Luic, Moise, Henry, Camille, Arthur and Homer Collette, and Leah Alix and Anita Aucoin, predeceased him. He was born in Spencer, son of Moise and Edeffe (Cournoyer) Collette, and lived more than 30 years in Marlboro. He graduated from Spencer High School, and from Boston University in 1927.
Mr. Collette was an executive in the accounting division of Mobil Oil Co. in Boston, retiring in 1967.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlboro, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. His nephew, Monsignor Richard Collette, will officiate. Burial will be in Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer. A calling period will be held 8 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the funeral home.
Madelyn Freedman, 85

WORCESTER -- Madelyn(McPherson) Freedman, 85, of 52 Country Club Blvd., died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
Her husband, Myer I. Freedman, died in 1987. She leaves a brother, Wallace McPherson of Hampton, N.H.; two sisters, Mildred Powers of Southbridge and Barbara Kokochinski of Webster; several nieces and nephews. She was born in Webster, daughter of Willard and Helen (Ford) McPherson, and lived 40 years in Worcester. She lived in California, Oregon and Florida for several years, returning to Worcester in 1991. She graduated from Bartlett High School in Webster.
Mrs. Freedman was a trophy engraver at Olympic Sporting Goods in Worcester for many years. Along with her husband, she manufactured trophies in Miami and California for several years, retiring many years ago.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery, Leicester. The memorial observance will be announced.
Michael D. Gabriella

WORCESTER -- Michael D. Gabriella, 78, of 248 Belmont St., a World War II veteran and a retired city worker, died Thursday, Nov. 8, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Carmella L. (Mirante) Gabriella; two sons, Michael F. Gabriella of Worcester and Martin J. Gabriella of Malden; three brothers, Joseph Gabriella of Rockland, and George Gabriella and Armand Catalani, both of Worcester; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Marion Belsito, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Antonio and Theresa (Frederico) Gabriella. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Gabriella was a laborer for the City of Worcester for 26 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church. He loved sports and gardening.
The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 12, from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 23 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. WORCESTER -- Rose M. (Bovenzi) Gervais, 83, of 49 Pleasant Valley Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 10, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a short illness.
Her husband, Leo Gervais, died in 1978. She leaves four brothers, Victor, Edward L., and David A. Bovenzi, all of Worcester, and Frank Bovenzi Jr. of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Ellen Clarke and Dolores Bovenzi, both of Worcester; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Francis and Agnes (Mogan) Bovenzi.
Mrs. Gervais worked 32 years for Worcester Taper Pin Co., retiring in 1980.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church.

WORCESTER -- James F. Gibbons III, 50, of 25 Montague St., a machinist, drowned Thursday, Nov. 8, while on vacation in Cancun, Mexico.
He leaves his wife, Sharon A. (Dumas) Gibbons; a son, Christopher S. Gibbons of Worcester; a daughter, Lauren F. Gibbons of Worcester; a brother, Stephen Gibbons of Cape Cod; five sisters, Ellen Kelleher of Falmouth, Maureen Lavallee and Rita Gibbons, both of Worcester, and Frances and Kathy Gibbons, both of Leicester; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of James F. Jr., and Rita M. (Moriarty) Gibbons, and lived his entire life here. He graduated from South High School.
Mr. Gibbons worked 17 years as a machinist for Kadant Co., Auburn. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Alhambra Knights of Columbus No. 88, and the Mount Washington Observatory. He was an avid sailor and scuba diver.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. LANCASTER -- Juliette Gizzania, 79, of 2621 North Main St., died Saturday, Nov. 10, in HealthAlliance -- Leominster Hospital after being stricken ill.
She leaves four sisters, Viola LaBonte, Mary Gizzania, Kathy Gizzania, and Toni Gizzania, all of Leominster; a close friend, Barbara Wyman, with whom she lived; and her guardian, Lucille Ayotte of Fitchburg.
Ms. Gizzania was a member of the Elderly Service Program at the Rollstone Center, the ARC of North Central Massachusetts Drop-In Club and the ARC of North Central Massachusetts Bowling League. She loved children and animals and enjoyed crafts. She was an avid card player.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Florence St., Leominster. There are no calling hours. M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, is directing arrangements.
George R. Goyette, 74

WORCESTER -- George R. "Gige" Goyette, 74, of 170A Lovell St., a World War II veteran and a retired state employee, died Thursday, Nov. 8, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, after a short illness.
He leaves his wife, Sally J. (Thoreen) Goyette; a son, Thomas E. Goyette of Miami Shore, Fla.; a daughter, Sally A. Goyette of Worcester; a brother, David G. Goyette of Worcester; two sisters, Barbara Mungovan of Key Largo, Fla., and Margaret Cronkite of Worcester; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, George E. Goyette of California, died in 1998. He was born in Worcester, son of George C. and Margaret E. (Scully) Goyette, and graduated from Commerce High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Goyette worked 38 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Public Works, retiring in 1989. He also was a part-time bartender for the Worcester Lodge of Elks. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Main South Post American Legion, and Worcester Lodge of Elks 243. He received the Elk of the Year Award in 1997.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. Burial will be at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. The Worcester Lodge of Elks will perform a ritual at 2:30 p.m. during the calling hours.
