Arthur E. DuHamel, 77
AUBURN -- Arthur E. “Duke” DuHamel, 77, of 42 Lower Windbrook Drive, a World War II veteran and a retired telephone company worker, died Friday, July 27, at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 17 years, Marie E. (Gallant) DuHamel; three sons, Robin D. DuHamel of Sutton, Jay A. and Andre E. DuHamel, both of Auburn; three daughters, Deborah M. Adam of Minneapolis, Michelle D. George and Claudette K. LeBlanc, both of Leicester; two stepsons, Michael K. Connor of Worcester and Todd M. Connor of North Attleboro; a stepdaughter, Lynn M. Boudria of Fall River; two brothers, George DuHamel of Auburn and Robert DuHamel of Southbridge; a sister, Annette O'Halloran of Auburn; his former wife, Marie B. (Chavis) DuHamel of Leicester; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two step-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Lowell, son of Henry and Edith (Almy) DuHamel, and lived most of his life in Auburn. He graduated from Auburn High School and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.

For 30 years, Mr. DuHamel was a cable splicer for New England Telephone Co., retiring in 1986. He previously worked for Massachusetts Electric, Worcester. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker and did freehand model and shipbuilding. Many years ago, the woodworking he did on his home was featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Telephone Pioneers.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday, July 31, in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. After cremation, burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p. m. Monday, July 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608; or to Auburn District Nursing Association, 101 Pakachoag St., Auburn, MA 01501.

George S. Esper, 76

SHREWSBURY -- George S. Esper, 76, of 6 Oxford Drive, a business owner and operator, died Tuesday, July 31, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 12 years, Millie (Dahrooge) Esper; two daughters, Gail S. Esper-Collette of Northboro and Joy A. Esper of Clinton; a sister, Agnes Esper of Worcester; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. His first wife, Dolores C. (Dahrooge) Esper, died in 1977. A brother, James Esper, and three sisters, Eva Farrah, Lena Nejaimey, and Lillian Haddad, also predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Solomon and Sophie (Saliba) Esper, and lived many years in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury in 1994. He attended Worcester public schools.

Since 1981, Mr. Esper owned and operated Clearview Ice Co., Worcester, serving restaurants, supermarkets and individuals. The business was founded by his father and uncles more than 70 years ago when ice was delivered in horse drawn wagons. Mr. Esper previously owned Esper Ice, Worcester.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Worcester, and the National Ice Organization.

A funeral service will be held at a day and time to be announced. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St., Worcester, MA 01604. WARE -- Helen H. (Davis) Gaudreau, 76, of 5 High St., a retired presser, died Tuesday, July 31, at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Armand Gaudreau; a son, Armand Gaudreau Jr. of Ware; three daughters, Maureen Poulin, Lauren Davis and Diana Rucki, all of Ware; three brothers, Warren Davis of Kansas, Richard and Robert Davis, both of California; a sister, Elizabeth Wright of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was born in Springfield, daughter of William and Leona (Peas) Davis, and lived many years in Ware. She graduated from Commerce High School, Springfield.

Mrs. Gaudreau was a presser for Seven Sisters Co. before retiring. She was a member of All Saints Church.

A funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 3, from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a. m. in All Saints Church, North Street. Burial will be in New St. William Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the funeral home.

EASTHAM -- Lois F. (Hopkins) Gellatly, 90, of 1515 Massasoit Road, North Eastham, formerly of the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, a retired secretary, died Saturday, July 28, at home after an illness.

Her husband, James G. Gellatly, died in 1983. She leaves a sister, Kathleen Schnare of Worcester; several nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Elizabeth VandenAkker of Whitinsville. Two sisters, Virginia Wood and Marcella Henderson, both of Whitinsville, predeceased her. She was born in Whitinsville, daughter of Frank and Helen (Dean) Hopkins, and moved to North Eastham in 1975. She graduated from Northbridge High School in 1928, and also graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester.

Mrs. Gellatly was a secretary many years for the Massachusetts Department of Public Assistance Office in Northbridge, retiring in 1975. She previously worked at the Whitin Machine Works and the Walker Coal & Ice Co.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Eastham, and was a former member of Village Congregational Church in Whitinsville.

The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity. Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, is directing arrangements.

RUTLAND -- Florence M. (Grenier) Gradowski, 76, of 12 Davis St., died Monday, July 30, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

Her husband of 53 years, Stanley J. Gradowski Sr., died in 1995. She leaves two sons, Stanley J. Gradowski Jr. of Erving and Paul J. Gradowski of Rutland; two daughters, Anne M. Poole of Barre and Lynne M. McGlynn of Rutland; three brothers, Wilfred Grenier of Rutland, Louis Grenier of New Hampshire, and Raymond Grenier of Nevada; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. Two sons, Wayne and Dennis Gradowski, predeceased her. She was born in Northbridge, daughter of Louis and Aurore (Croteau) Grenier, and lived most of her life in Rutland.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its choir. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

A funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 3, from Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a Mass at 10 a. m. in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Holden. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p. m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church, PO Box 939, Rutland, MA 01543.

John D. Hegarty, 55

John D. Hegarty, 55
WORCESTER -- John D. Hegarty, 55, of 238 Grafton St., died Monday, July 23, at home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his mother Idris Helen (Howard) Jamieson of Auburn; two brothers, Lyle Hegarty of Leicester and Merlin Jamieson of Macon, Ga. ; three sisters, Nancy Burdett of Leicester, Norine Curtin of Spencer and Kathleen Jamieson of Auburn; his stepfather, Merlin Jamieson of Auburn; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Louis Hegarty, and graduated from Commerce High School.

Mr. Hegarty was a manager for various area restaurants.

The burial service was in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., directed arrangements.

STURBRIDGE -- Russell R. Jaskoviak, 56, of 30 Cedar Lake Drive, died Saturday, July 28, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 33 years, Evelyn M. (Birch) Jaskoviak; two daughters, Temra Turenne of Monson and Hollie Lockwood of Sturbridge; a sister, Carol Partlow of Sturbridge; four grandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of Robert and Pauline (LaCoste) Jaskoviak, and lived most of his life in Sturbridge. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Jaskoviak was a licensed burner technician for CK Smith Oil Co. for the past eight years. He previously owned and operated City Oil Co. for many years.

He was a member and former post commander of the American Legion, and was a member of the Sturbridge American Veterans and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Southbridge. He was a former member of the Franco-American Veterans in Southbridge.

He enjoyed woodworking. He restored and drove a 1965 Ford Mustang.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10 a. m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery in Sturbridge. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p. m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 1 St. Jude Place, PO Box 1000, Department 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.

HOLDEN -- Marion M. (Tait) Jordan, 74, of 101 Union St., died Sunday, July 29, in Holden Nursing Home.

Her husband, Charles A. Jordan III, predeceased her. She leaves a son, Charles A. Jordan IV of Holden; a brother, Murray F. Tait of Penobsquis, New Brunswick; nieces and nephews. A son, Stewart C. Jordan, predeceased her. She was born in Penobsquis, daughter of O. Gordon and Ina (Gulliver) Tait, and graduated from Sussex High School and the Moncton Hospital School of Nursing, both in New Brunswick, and St. Michael's School of Business.

Mrs. Jordan was a registered nurse and director of medical records at Holden District Hospital, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, and was a deacon emeritus.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, Aug. 3, in First Congregational Church, 1180 Main St. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 1180 Main St., Holden, MA 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Ruth M. Kenney, 87

Ruth M. Kenney, 87
WORCESTER -- Ruth M. Kenney, 87, of 8 Melville St., an artist and sailor, died Saturday, July 28, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center after a short illness.

She leaves a brother, Frank Kenney of Worcester; two sisters, Eleanor M. Buckley and M. Gladys Reardon, both of Worcester. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Frank H. and Margaret (Maguire) Kenney, and graduated from North High School, where she was a standout basketball, field hockey, and tennis player. She also played violin for the school orchestra. She graduated from the Worcester Art Museum School.

She was a skilled oil painter, and designed silver jewelry.

She spent many summers in Rockport, and was a member of the Rockport Art Association. She enjoyed sailing, and was a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club and the Brier Neck Beach Association in Gloucester.

She was a founding member of St. Bernard's Church.

The funeral service and burial, in St. John's Cemetery, will be private. Donations may be made to St. Bernard's Church, 236 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605. Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., is directing arrangements.

Marie A. Majewski Lavallee, 82

MILLBURY -- Marie A. (King) Majewski Lavallee, 82, of 10B Sutton Road, died Saturday, July 28, in Northbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Northbridge, after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 29 years, Arthur W. Lavallee; two sons, William J. Majewski of Worcester and Paul Majewski of Millbury; four stepsons, William F. Lavallee of Manchaug, Arthur J. Lavallee of Blandford, Francis Lavallee of Mishawaka, Ind., and John L. Lavallee of Medway; a stepdaughter, Shirley A. Zeiger of Mishawaka; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; 13 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Millbury, daughter of Louis A. and Alma I. (Charpentier) King.

Mrs. Lavallee was a winder 10 years at S & D Spinning Co., retiring in 1978. She previously worked many years at Fine Spinning Co. and the Hayward Woolen Co. in East Douglas.

She was a former member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish. She enjoyed traveling.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 10 Waters St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., is directing arrangements.

HOLDEN -- Francis I. LeBaron, 88, a retired machinist, died Thursday, July 26, in the Holden Nursing Home.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Olive (Parks) (Goddard) LeBaron; a stepson, Clinton P. Goddard of Pawleys Island, S. C. ; a daughter, Nancy A. Pride of Deerfield; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was born in Brattleboro, Vt., son of George I. and Flora A. (Stark) LeBaron. He graduated from the Brattleboro High School.

Mr. LeBaron worked for the Sleeper and Hartley Co. in Worcester as a machinist. He enjoyed skiing, hunting and gardening.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a. m. Monday, July 30, in the High Plain Cemetery, West Boylston. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Holden Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 32 Mayo Drive, Holden, MA 01520 or to the North Haiti Mission, 268 Reef Run Road, Pawleys Island, SC, 29585.
