WORCESTER -- Domenic F. DeSimone, 81, of 15 Cross St., died Wednesday, June 6, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center. Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home, 179 Shrewsbury St., is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

Gerard Despres Jr., 35

PROVINCETOWN -- Gerard C.J. Despres Jr., 35, of Provincetown, formerly of Worcester, an antiques collector and former business owner, died Monday, June 4, in Provincetown after a long illness.

He leaves his longtime partner, Roland “Gig” Kreeger; seven sisters, Lillianne LaPensee of Worcester, Angella Ahearn of North Brookfield, Denise Ledoux of Marstons Mills, Dorine Poirier, Sharon Cormier, and Sheryl Despres, all of Cocagne, New Brunswick, and Janice Leger of Cap-Pele, New Brunswick; a brother, Rheal Despres of Cocagne; his maternal grandmother, Rose Richard of Moncton, New Brunswick; nephews and nieces. His father, Gerard Despres of Cocagne, died in 1995. His mother, Albertine (Richard) Despres, died in 1995. A sister, Yvette Despres, died in 1967. He was born in Worcester, and lived many years in Cocagne and Montreal before returning to the United States. He served for a short time in the Navy.

Mr. Despres owned the former August Antiques in Malden, and had since worked at various auction houses. He was a longtime AIDS educator and lecturer.

He enjoyed sailing his boat and collecting antiques, and was a Lego enthusiast. He enjoyed traveling to the Beech Forest and Cape Cod.

There are no funeral services planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Foley House, 214 Bradford St., Provincetown, MA 02657 or Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Main St., Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Florence C. Dickson, 86

Monday, June 4, 2001

PLYMOUTH -- Florence C. (DeFelice) Dickson, 86, of Plymouth, formerly of Barre, died Saturday, June 2, in Jordan Hospital.

Her husband, William D.N. Dickson, predeceased her. She leaves a son, Thomas Dickson of Plymouth; a daughter, Lynda Foster of North Brookfield; a brother, John DeFelice of Plymouth; a sister, Harriet DeFelice of Plymouth; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Plymouth, daughter of Michael and Rose (Montanari) DeFelice.Mrs. Dickson was a homemaker and an avid reader.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, from the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., North Plymouth, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in the Vine Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation Massachusetts Chapter, Chatham Center, Suite 450, 29 Crafts St., Newton, MA 02160.

Raymond A. Duguay, 71

GARDNER -- Raymond A. Duguay, 71, of 123C Blanchard St., a former assembler, died Monday, June 4, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.

His wife, Elsie (Colburn) Duguay, died in 1964. He leaves two sons, Gary Duguay of Tyngsboro and Richard Duguay of Hudson, N.H.; two brothers, Normand Duguay of Londonderry, N.H., and Wilfred Duguay of Gardner; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; several nephews and nieces. A son, Raymond Duguay, predeceased him. He was born in Athol, son of Adelard J. and Noella (Duguay) Duguay, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Duguay was an assembler several years at Harrington & Richardson Co. He had been a part-time delivery man for Fred's Used Parts.

The funeral service wil be held at noon Friday, June 8, in Boucher Funeral Home Inc., 110 Nichols St. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford, N.H. A calling hour will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, June 8, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Norman A. Dupill, 79

FITCHBURG -- Norman A. Dupill, 79, of 110 Senna Road, a World War II veteran and retired papermaker, died Tuesday, June 5, in the Highlands.

His wife, Maxine (Pratt) Dupill, died in 1997. He leaves four sons, Daniel N. Dupill of Los Angeles, Michael D. Dupill of Ashburnham, Garry E. and Bryan A. Dupill, both of Fitchburg; a daughter, Lisa Dupill Hodgkins of Biloxi, Miss.; and 12 grandchildren. He was born in Rumford, Maine, son of Albert and Marion (Arsenault) Dupill, and lived most of his life in Fitchburg. He graduated from Stevens High School, Rumford, and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving six years in Asia and the Pacific.

Mr. Dupill was a papermaker for more than 30 years at Fitchburg Paper Co., retiring in 1983. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a member of the St. Joseph Club, and a former member of the Lunenburg Sportsman's Club.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, in Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to DAV, 63 Fairmount St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Henry F. Dymek Sr., 84

WORCESTER -- Henry F. Dymek Sr., 84, of Worcester, a World War II veteran, died Friday, June 1, in the Hospice Residence after a short illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Margaret T. (Culhane) Dymek; two sons, Henry F. Dymek Jr. of Grafton and Dennis J. Dymek of Southampton; two brothers, Casimir Dymek of Andover and Boleslaw Dymek of Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Stasia Starses of Worcester; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Stanislaw and Frances (Ksebka) Dymek, and graduated from Commerce High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S., Asia, the Pacific, and the Philippines.

Mr. Dymek was a self-employed window trimmer and display man many years for several department stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Parish, the Greendale Retired Men's Club, the Worcester Lodge of Elks, and the American Legion Tatnuck Post.A funeral will be held Tuesday, June 5, from Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Central Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Marguerite Fanning, 76

DENNIS -- Marguerite D. (Ryan) Fanning, 76, of East Dennis, formerly of West Boylston, died Monday, June 4, in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

She leaves her husband, Donald J. Fanning Sr.; four sons, Donald J. Fanning Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Timothy E. Fanning of Oakdale, Gerald Fanning of Bethlehem, N.H., and John R. Fanning of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two daughters, Maryellen Anderson of Sandwich and Elizabeth A. Fanning-Tibbetts of Dennis; a brother, John E. Ryan of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Katherine E. Ryan of Worcester; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A son, Michael F. Fanning, predeceased her. She was born in Leicester and attended South High School and the Worcester School of Business Sciences. She lived in West Boylston before moving to East Dennis in 1968.

Mrs. Fanning was a member of Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster. Burial will be in South Dennis Cemetery, South Dennis. A calling period will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660 or a charity.

Madeline Fiske, 85

HOLDEN -- Madeline (Murray) Fiske, 85, formerly of 68 Reservoir St., died Saturday, June 2, in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.

She leaves a son, John Murray Fiske of Rutland; a niece, Susan Brown of Rutland; a nephew, Dr. Gordon Prescott of Princeton, W.Va.; a grandnephew and a grandniece. She was born in South Carver, daughter of Neil D. and Reba (Griffith) Murray, and lived many years in Rutland and Holden.

Mrs. Fiske worked in the medical records department 15 years at Holden District Hospital.

She was a member of First Congregational Church of Rutland. She volunteered at the Holden Senior Center.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main St., Rutland, MA 01543.

Edward F. Fox Sr., 83

SHREWSBURY -- Edward F. Fox Sr., 83, of 23 Saturn Drive, a World War II veteran and retired credit manager, died Saturday, June 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Marilyn F. (Cowland) Fox; three sons, Edward W. “Ted” Fox Jr. of Charlton, Richard A. and Paul M. Fox, both of Shrewsbury; a sister, Rosemary Harrity of Worcester; six grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. A brother, Henry F. Fox Jr., died in 1964. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Henry F. and Rose (Gannon) Fox, and lived 46 years in Shrewsbury. He graduated from North High School in Worcester, and attended WPI. He graduated from Michigan State College.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. He earned a Bronze Star in the Philippine Liberation.Mr. Fox was district credit manager many years for the Simplex Time Recorder Co. in Gardner, retiring in 1980. He previously worked for Norton Co. in Worcester.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and the Tech Old Timers. He was a member and past chairman of the New England Association of Credit Executives, and was long involved with Troop 88 Boy Scouts of America, both in Worcester.A funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Otilya Gelina, 97

MARLBORO -- Otilya (Abolin) Gelina, 97, of 23 Witherbee St., died Tuesday, June 5, at Westridge Healthcare Center after a long illness.

Her husband, David Gelina, died in 1976. She leaves two sons, Frederick E. Gelina and Douglas D. Gelina, both of Marlboro; 14 grandchildren, 13 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. A son, Kenneth D. Gelina and a daughter, Shirley P. Clark, predeceased her. She was born in Riga, Latvia, daughter of Frederick and Lizete (Krastin) Abolin, and lived in Marlboro most of her life.

Mrs. Gelina worked in the housekeeping department at Marlboro Hospital and also was a waitress at the Wildwood Restaurant and at the former Red Coach Grill, Wayland. She was also a stitcher at the former B.A. Corbin Shoe Manufacturing Co. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the John P. Rowe Funeral Home, Inc., 57 Main St. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the funeral home.

Richard P. Haley, 82

FITCHBURG -- Richard P. Haley, 82, of 96 Birch St., died Saturday, June 2, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after a illness.

His wife, Elizabeth A. “Libby” (Dooling) Haley, died in 1993. He leaves three sons, Richard D. Haley of Corona, Calif., Charles T. Haley of Willmington, Del., and Martin J. Haley of Fitchburg; three daughters, Mary E. Haley of Fitchburg, Jane M. Haley-Pallutta of Leominster, and Margaret M. Haley-Sansone of Acton; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister predeceased him. He was born in Fitchburg, son of John and Josephine (O'Neil) Haley, and attended St. Bernard's High School.

Mr. Haley worked 35 years for the former J.G. Flynn Towel and Linen Service, retiring in 1968. He was later a supervisor in the receiving department at Fitchburg State College, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of St. Bernard's Church, The Knights of Columbus, and Joseph P. Keating Council 99 of Fitchburg.

He was active for many years as a Scoutmaster for the former Troop #33 at St. Bernard's, and was a former member of The Irish American Association, and the Friends of Coggshall Park.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, June 6, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard's Renovation Fund, 240 Water St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Madeline N. Hanks, 75

LEOMINSTER -- Madeline N. (Biron) Hanks, 75, of 290 Abbott Ave., died Monday, June 4, at home after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 53 years, Robert J. Hanks; a daughter, Darlene A. Hanks of Northfield, Vt.; a sister, Pauline Gelinas of Ashby; two brothers, Roger Biron of California and Robert “Dick” Biron of Lunenburg; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Maurice and Arthur Biron, and a sister, Doris Biron, predeceased her. She was born in the Whalom section of Leominster, daughter of Aime and Emma (Cote) Biron.

Mrs. Hanks attended St. Francis Church, South Fitchburg, and was a member of St. Leo's Church for the past 53 years. She had a stroke 15 years ago. She was the family nurse and hairdresser. She enjoyed dancing, bingo, puzzles and needlework.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in St. Leo's Church, 109 West St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 8, and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608; or to Montachusett Home Care Corp., Cross Roads Office Park, 680 Mechanic St., Leominster, MA 01453-4402.

Elizabeth J. Harlow, 89

FITCHBURG -- Elizabeth J. (Ferguson) Harlow, 89, of 29 Merriam Parkway, formerly of 65 Carriageway Drive, died Tuesday, June 5, in the Highlands after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 68 years, Robert M. Harlow; a brother, Thomas Ferguson of Gallitzin, Pa.; nephews and nieces, including Betty M. Mirovich, with whom she lived; grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Gallitzin, daughter of Paul and Nina (Price) Ferguson, and graduated from Gallitzin High School in 1929. She lived in Fitchburg since 1966.

She worked in food management for the Delaware North Food Service Division. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 174 in Gallitzin. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church.

The funeral will be held Friday, June 8, from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Water St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the funeral home.
