SUTTON -- William B. Davis, 39, of 643 Riverside Dr., Grosvenordale, formerly of Sutton, died Wednesday, April 4, at home after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of seven years, Yvette T. (Poirier) Davis; two sons, Sean M. Lamoureux and Ryan W. Davis, both at home; a daughter, Casey J. Davis, at home; his mother, Lorraine F. (Leno) Davis of Sutton; three brothers, Lester B. Davis Jr., and Norman F. Davis, both of Sutton, and Timothy J. Davis of the Pascoag section of Burrillville, R.I.; a sister, Bonnie L. Limanek of Sutton; and nephews and nieces. Born in Sutton, son of Lester B. Davis Sr., he attended Sutton High School. He moved to Grosvenordale in 1997.

Mr. Davis worked five years as material handler and warehouseman at Guilford Industries of Maine, Inc., East Douglas, before retiring due to illness in 1997.

He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Parish. He enjoyed weightlifting, bodybuilding and exercising.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, in Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Catholic Church, 356 Boston Road. Burial will be in New Howard Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

Mary A. Dears, 85

Wednesday, April 11, 2001

WORCESTER -- Mary A. (Whitman) Dears, 85, formerly of 165 Nicholas Ave., and formerly of Rutland, a nurse who served in World War II, died Tuesday, April 10, in University Commons, after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 45 years, John J. Dears; a daughter, Michelle A. Donohue of Holden; a sister, Rose St. George of Cambridge; nephews and nieces. She was born in Cambridge, daughter of Chester A. and Agnes G. (Gormley) Whitman, and graduated from Ascension High School and from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a nurse in North Africa and France.

Mrs. Dears was a nurse for 50 years, retiring in 1984 from Rutland Heights Hospital. She was a member of the St. Vincent Alumni Association, and enjoyed the theater and reading.

The funeral service will be held Friday, April 13, from Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Burial will be private in St. Peter's Cemetery, Provincetown. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Church Building Fund, 1222 Main St., Worcester, MA 01603.

Dante R. D'Ercole, 85

WAYLAND -- Dante R. D'Ercole, 85, of Wayland, formerly of Worcester and Newton, died Monday, April 2, at home.

His wife, Esther M. (Caruso) D'Ercole, predeceased him. He leaves two daughters, Jane A. Roman of Framingham and Barbara M. Matyi of Wayland; three brothers, Albert D'Ercole of Waltham, Raymond D'Ercole of Florida and Bruno D'Ercole of Needham; three sisters, Eva Sonsini and Gloria Berry, both of Needham, and Y. Elizabeth Olmedi of Wellesley; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Born in Newton Center, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (D'Attilio) D'Ercole, he lived in Newton and Worcester before moving here.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 7, from John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road, Cochituate, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church, Route 27. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Newton. Calling hours are 4:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the funeral home's Gibbs Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, 75 Kneeland St., 8th Floor, Boston, MA 02111.

John L. Diaz, 65

Sunday, April 8, 2001

CLINTON -- John L. Diaz, 65, of 290 Berlin St., formerly of Middlebury, Vt., an insurance salesman, died Friday, April 6, in Clinton Hospital after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Janet E. (Deakins) Diaz. He was born in Stamford, Conn., son of John and Mary (Cleveland) Diaz, and lived many years in Middlebury before moving to Clinton in 1975. He attended Middlebury schools. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Diaz was an insurance salesman 39 years for Bankers Life & Casualty, Framingham, until the time of his death. He was a member of U.S. Power Squadron, Worcester Chapter. He was a former board member of Worcester Life Underwriters and the Regatta Point Sailing Association, Worcester.

The memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1 Cross St. Burial will be at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., is directing arrangements.

Concetta DiMuzio, 97

BERLIN -- Concetta J. (Galardi) DiMuzio, 97, of Berlin, formerly of Melrose, a former business co-owner and operator, died Sunday, April 1, in River Terrace Nursing Home, Lancaster, after a long illness.

Her husband of 75 years, Angelo DiMuzio, died last year. She leaves a son, Raymond DiMuzio of Berlin; a grandson, Raymond DiMuzio III in New Jersey; two granddaughters, Helen Lyons of Carlisle and Angela Whitney of Lancaster; and seven great-grandchildren. She was born in Boston, and lived in Italy, Wakefield, 65 years in Melrose and five years in Lancaster.

With her husband, Mrs. DiMuzio owned and operated Modern Taylor Shop, Melrose, for more than 50 years. She previously was a seamstress at factories in Wakefield and Malden. In Melrose, she was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church, a member of St. Mary's Ladies Sodality, and past president of the Italian-American Catholic Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 4, from Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Hebert Street, Melrose. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, Vision 2000, 46 Myrtle St., Melrose, MA 02176; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Mass., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.

Chester Dzivasen II, 35

DOUGLAS -- Chester W. Dzivasen II, 35, of 32 Martin Road, an Uxbridge police officer, died Monday, April 9, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after he was stricken ill while coaching a local baseball team at Uxbridge High School.

He leaves his wife of 17 years, Lori A. (Dansereau) Dzivasen; two sons, Chester W. Dzivasen III and Kiel D. Dzivasen, both of Douglas; his parents, Kent W. Dzivasen of Truro and C. Joelle Dzivasen of Worcester; his maternal grandmother, Olive Maki of Sterling; a brother, Rod Dzivasen of Holden; a sister, Christine Dzivasen of Holden; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, and lived 10 years in Uxbridge before moving to Douglas last year. He graduated from Burncoat High School, Worcester, and from Westfield State College in Westfield.

Mr. Dzivasen was a police officer in Uxbridge for 12 years, serving as an accident reconstruction specialist. He was president of the Local 123 Massachusetts Coalition of Police, and served on the Uxbridge Police Honor Guard. He coached Babe Ruth baseball in Uxbridge, and also coached youth football.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, in North Uxbridge Baptist Church, East Hartford Avenue, Uxbridge. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Uxbridge. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in Tancrell Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dzivasen Boys Education Trust Fund, c/o Savers Cooperative Bank, 30 South Main St., Uxbridge, MA 01569.

Walter S. Eden, 88

SPENCER -- Brigadier Walter S. Eden, 88, of 5 Cedar Road, who served 66 years with the Salvation Army, died Monday, April 9, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Helen C. (Johnson) Eden; a daughter, Katherine Doyle of Springfield, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Karen Stallone Andreacci of Wayne, N.J.; four grandsons; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. A brother and three sisters predeceased him. He was born in Pen Argyle, Pa., son of Jeffrey J. and Hannah (Blackler) Eden, and lived 24 years in Spencer. He graduated from Pen Argyle High School and from the Salvation Army Training College in 1936.

During his 66 years as an officer for the Salvation Army, he served in various appointments throughout the Northeast, including sergeant-major of the Quinsigamond Corps in Worcester, and chaplain at the Adult Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Salvation Army Quinsigamond Corps, 884 Millbury St., Worcester. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. A calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Salvation Army Quinsigamond Corps. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Quinsigamond Corps Building Fund, 884 Millbury St., Worcester, MA 01607. Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Gladys Emsley, 93

SNELLVILLE, Ga. -- Gladys (Loader) Emsley, 93, of Snellville, formerly of Grafton, Mass., died March 1 in Snellville.

Her husband, Howard A. Emsley, died in 1971. She leaves a son, Howard Emsley of Snellville; a daughter, Marilyn Betts of Virginia; a brother, Harry Loader of California; a sister, Violet Cain of Florida; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emsley was a former member of Evangelical Congregational Church in Grafton.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in Fairview Cemetery, South Grafton. Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., is directing local arrangements.

Georgia M. Evans, 91

Tuesday, April 3, 2001

WORCESTER -- Georgia M. (Emmons) Evans, 91, formerly of 485 Grove St., died Saturday, April 7, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

Her husband, Robert C. Evans, died in 1972. She leaves a sister, Josephine Norwood of Maine; five grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. A son, Robert C. Evans of Ellensburg, Wash., a daughter, Pamelia M. Warcholik of Seymour, Conn., and two sisters, Myrtle Dawley of Dayton, Maine, and Ethel M. Shain of South Windham, Maine, all predeceased her. She was born in Kennebunkport, Maine, daughter of Horatio and Ethel M. (Smith) Emmons, and lived 60 years in Holden and Worcester.

Mrs. Evans was a licensed practical nurse in several Worcester area hospitals.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Private services will be held in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., is directing arrangements.

Rabbi Chaim Fogelman

NEW YORK -- Rabbi Chaim Fogelman, 52, of 410 Crown St., Brooklyn, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a financial adviser, died Thursday, April 5, at home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his parents, Rabbi Hershel Fogelman and Rochel (Magnes) Fogelman of Worcester; four brothers, Mendel Fogelman of Worcester, Rabbi Levi Fogelman of Natick, Mass., Shmuel Fogelman of Los Angeles and Rabbi Mordechai Fogelman of Brooklyn; two sisters, Basya Levin and Sheva Liberow, both of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, and lived 30 years in Brooklyn. He studied at Rabbinical School in Kfar Chabad in Israel, and was ordained as a Rabbi at the Rabbinical College of Tomchei Tmimim in Brooklyn.

Rabbi Fogelman was a financial adviser for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter for many years.

He published articles on the Torah perspective of modern day Israel, and the position of Orthodox rabbis on Jewish observance and current lifestyles. He was a member of the National Outreach Committee of Tzeerai Agudas Chabad of Brooklyn.

A funeral service was held Friday, April 6, in Shomrei Hadas Chapel, and the Lubavitch Center, 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn. Burial was in Old Montefiore Agudas Chabad Cemetery in Queens. Donations may be made to a charity.

Madeline H. Fortier, 88

WESTMINSTER -- Madeline H. (McDonald) Fortier, 88, of 45 Dean Hill Road, died Friday, April 6, in Birchwood Care Center, Fitchburg, after an illness.

Her husband of 40 years, Chester H. Fortier, died in 1979. She leaves a son, Chester L. Fortier of Seabrook, N.H., and Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Priscilla Allen of Lunenburg and Virginia Robichaud of Leominster; a brother, Robert McDonald of Winchendon; two sisters, Catherine Coyne of Carver and Nancy White of Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her twin sister, Marguerite Kennedy-McDonald, predeceased her. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of John and Victoria (Lemner) McDonald, and lived more than 40 years in Westminster. She graduated from Merdock High School, Winchendon, and attended Henry Heywood School of Nursing, Gardner.

Mrs. Fortier was a member of St. Denis Church in Ashburnham, Ashburnham Senior Citizens Club, and Forever Young Club.

The funeral service will be private in the Westminster Chapel of Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main St. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Lung Association, 35 Harvard St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Dorothy Lemay French

WORCESTER -- Dorothy T. (Germain) Lemay French, formerly of 101 Chadwick St., a retired seamstress, died Monday, April 2, in Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center, Westboro.

Her husband, Van R. French, died in 1990. She leaves two sons, Bertrand G. Lemay of Oxford and Ronald V. Lemay of Wimberley, Texas; two daughters, Jeanne A. Gaumond of Shrewsbury and Doris C. Richard of Worcester; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Her first husband, Roland C. Lemay, died in 1970. She was also predeceased by five brothers, Ulric, Albert and Roy Germain, all of Worcester, Charles Germain of Albany, N.Y., and Alfred Germain of Michigan; four sisters, Edith Riopel of Webster, Mabel Raymond of North Brookfield, and Stella Maynard and Exilda Riggs, both of California; and a grandchild. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles F. and Emilda (Rivard) Germain, and lived most of her life in Worcester. She had also lived in Sterling and Florida.

Mrs. French was a self-employed seamstress who specialized in wedding party work, retiring in 1985. She also taught sewing for Millbury Adult Education. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, and enjoyed gardening and raising gladioluses.

The funeral will be held Friday, April 6, from Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 35 Hamilton St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Renovation Fund, PO Box 859, West Side Station, Worcester, MA 01602; or to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Mass., 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
