Frances D. Baker, 89

WORCESTER -- Frances D. Baker, 89, of 80 Salisbury St., died Sunday, Feb. 4, at home after being stricken ill.
She leaves a brother, Solomon R. Baker of Los Angeles; many nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., daughter of Nathan L. and Ida (Cramer) Baker, and lived most of her life in Worcester. She graduated from Classical High School and Framingham State Teacher's College. She was an officer in the Navy during World War II.
Miss Baker taught school for a short time, and was an independent life insurance agent many years, retiring 10 years ago.
She was a member of Congregation B'Nai Israel in Woonsocket, the Worcester Art Museum, and the Worcester Chapter of Hadassah.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Woonsocket. The memorial observance will be private. Donations may be made to the Beth Israel Synagogue, Jamesbury Drive, Worcester, MA 01609.
Sister Madeline Baker, was registered nurse

HOLYOKE -- Sister Madeline Baker of the Sisters of Providence, formerly known as Sister Mary Felicita, 86, died Saturday, June 2, in the Sisters of Providence Infirmary. She was in the 67th year of her religious life.She leaves two nieces. Born in Ware, daughter of Alexander and Rachel (Lapolice) Baker, she graduated from Chicopee High School, and Providence Hospital School of Nursing. She attended Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, and Boston College School of Nursing, Boston.
A registered nurse, Sister Madeline served in health care ministry for nearly 50 years. She ministered at the Providence Hospital; the former St. Luke's Hospital, Pittsfield; 13 years at the former Farren Memorial Hospital, Montague City; the operating room at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, for 23 years as a staff nurse, supervisor of the department, and as instructor for surgical technician students.
In 1984, she returned to the Providence Mother House and continued in ministry by serving as assistant local coordinator and as companion to sisters going to medical appointments. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the Bureau of Exceptional Children and Adults (Jericho), and participated in the former Sisters of Providence sponsored SHARE program.
She was a member of the Springfield Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses, and a former member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses and its board of directors. She also served on the board of directors and advisory board of the David Hale Fanning Vocational School.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, from Providence Place in Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Catherine Barber, 78

FITCHBURG -- Catherine M. “Kay” (McGuinness) Barber, 78, of 197 Belmont St., a World War II veteran and a retired nurse's aide, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at home after a long illness.
Her husband, Roger B. Barber, died in 1993. She leaves a son, Edward B. Barber of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Jayne P. Sambito and Joan P. Kymalainen, both of Fitchburg, and Holly A. Enright of Hollis, N.H.; a sister, Patricia A. Mahan of India Atlantic, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of F. Edward and Lena M. (Leger) McGuinness. She graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School 1940 and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman first class.
Mrs. Barber was a nurse's aide at Mount Elam Nursing Home, retiring in 1988. She was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish, where she taught the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and was a eucharistic minister and outreach minister.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the funeral home. Thomas Barber Jr., 72

PUTNAM -- Thomas H. Barber Jr., 72, of Sabin Street, a retired foreman and a veteran of the Korean War, died Monday, April 9, at his home, after a long illness.
He leaves his wife, Maureen (Marchese) Barber; two sons, Thomas H. Barber III of Brooklyn, Conn., and Christopher R. Barber of Woodstock; a daughter, Alfrida Barber of Hartford; and two grandchildren. He was born in New York City, son of Thomas and Ethel (Goodridge) Barber, and lived most of his life in the Putnam-Woodstock area. He graduated from Woodstock Academy. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Barber was a foreman at Jacobs Rubber in Dayville, Conn., for more than 14 years, retiring in 1988. He attended South Woodstock Baptist Church, and was a member of the Woodstock Agricultural Society. He enjoyed gardening and cooking.
The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St. Burial will be in Abington Cemetery, Pomfret. There are no calling hours. Edward D. Barnes, 62

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Edward D. Barnes, 62, of Hills Beach Road, formerly of Mendon, Mass., an electrical engineer, died Saturday, Nov. 25, in Southern Maine Medical Center.
He leaves his wife, Nancy C. (Burns) Barnes; a brother, Daniel N. Barnes of Mendon; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, Mass., son of D. Kinsley and Viola M. (Nelson) Barnes, and graduated from Mendon High School in 1956. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in 1961. He lived in Mendon before moving to Biddeford.
Mr. Barnes was an electrical engineer 20 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, retiring earlier this year. He previously worked at Raytheon Corp. in Sudbury, Mass.
He was a member and past master of Solomon's Temple Lodge AF & AM in Uxbridge, Mass., and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite in Worcester. He was a member of the International Institute of Electrical Engineers in Washington, D.C.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in Buma-Sargent Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, Mass. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hopkinton, Mass. GARDNER -- Anna M. (Thibodeau) Bastarache, 65, of 177 Otter River Road, a cafeteria worker, died Monday, Feb. 5, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, following a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 43 years, Frederick Bastarache of Gardner; three daughters, Phyllis R. Devoe and Pauline A. MacAloney of Gardner, and Joanne M. Ide of Winchendon; a brother, Roger Thibodeau of Moncton, New Brunswick; two sisters, Rita Cormier of Lowell and Alma Gauvin of Moncton; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Moncton, daughter of Raymond and Mellina (Gallant) Thibodeau.
Mrs. Bastarache was a cafeteria worker for the Gardner school system for 15 years. She previously worked for the IGA Supermarkets. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and enjoyed camping.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nicholas St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nicholas St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. OXFORD -- Rita E. (Malloy) Beane, 79, of Ashton Street, a retired department supervisor, died Friday, Feb. 2, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, Richard M. Beane Sr. of Oxford; three sons, Richard M. Beane Jr. of Hingham, Kenneth D. and Gordon L. Beane, both of Worcester; two daughters, Katherine T. Gill of Worcester and Lorraine M. DeVault of Westerly, R.I.; a brother, Michael Malloy of Dayton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Vincent Beane of Oxford, died in 1964. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael J. and Delia T. (Lavoie) Malloy, and moved to Oxford in 1950. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester in 1939.
Mrs. Beane was a department supervisor 10 years at the Cherry & Webb Co. in Auburn, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and its rosary sodality. She taught CCD, and was a member of the church's 334 Club.
The memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St. Burial will be at a later date in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Marie B. Beard, 71

WORCESTER -- Marie B. Beard, 71, of 1350 Main St., died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Clark Manor Nursing Home.
She leaves several cousins. She was born in Boston, daughter of James T. and Elizabeth B. (Lynch) Beard, and lived many years in Fitchburg before moving to Worcester in 1999.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Ernest J. Beaulac, 67

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Ernest J. Beaulac, 67, of 56 Muirfield Court, and formerly of Fitchburg, Mass., a former teacher and headmaster, died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Vassar Brothers Hospital.
He leaves several cousins, including Betty F. Shepard of Fitchburg. A brother, Robert F. Beaulac, a brother of the Assumption Order, died in November. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Ernest and Isola (Gagne) Beaulac, graduated from Assumption Preparatory School, and, in 1958, from Assumption College, both in Worcester, Mass. He received a master's and, in 1967, a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.
Mr. Beaulac taught English, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages at Cheshire Academy, Cheshire, Conn., from 1958 until 1966 when he was named dean of students. In 1973, he was appointed assistant headmaster and, in 1975, headmaster of the academy, serving 11 years in the latter capacity. In recent years, he had been updating the history of the school.
He was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Fitchburg.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from the Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Sheridan St., Fitchburg. William H. Beck Jr., 81

SHREWSBURY -- William H. Beck Jr., 81, of 14 Sterling St., died Sunday, Jan. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Nellie P. (Mackelonis) Beck; a brother, Robert Beck of Holden; several nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of William H. and Edith C. (Atwell) Beck. He grew up in Rocky Hill, Conn., and later returned to Worcester. He lived more than 25 years in Shrewsbury. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in Connecticut. He was an Army veteran of World War II and saw action in Normandy and Northern France.
Mr. Beck was a machinist at Hollander & Johnson Inc. in Worcester for many years. He later worked in the tool department in the Schoolhouse at Spag's in Shrewsbury for many years, retiring in 1998.
He was an avid outdoor sportsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. Esther Bedrosian, 87

WORCESTER -- Esther (Postoian) Bedrosian, 87, formerly of 11 Glenwood St. and 545 Salisbury St., a former local union leader, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Her husband, George Bedrosian, died in 1971. She leaves a daughter, Martha Bedrosian of Jamaica Plain; four grandchildren, Kapriel Arakelian of Oxford, Haig Arakelian of Worcester, Melanie Owens of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Marina Arakelian of New York City; several nephews and nieces. Her first husband, Capriel Michaelian, died in 1940. A daughter, Roxanne Warsaw, died in 1972. She was born in Watervliet, N.Y., daughter of Mesrob and Margaret (Sarafian) Postoian, and lived 58 years in Worcester before moving to Jamaica Plain in 1999.
Mrs. Bedrosian was a pocket maker for several local garment makers, and was an ombudsman at several local nursing homes, retiring seven years ago.
She was a member of the Garment Workers Union, and was a union representative to the Ladies Garment Workers Union AFL & CIO. She was an active member of the Democratic Party, and was honored for her service to the party by former Gov. Michael Dukakis in 1985.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Armenian Church and its Ladies Guild.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Holy Trinity Armenian Church, 635 Grove St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Bernard R. Belliveau, 71

FITCHBURG -- Bernard R. Belliveau, 71, of 456 Beech St., a former Department of Public Works worker, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Birchwood Care Center.
He leaves two brothers, J. Edmond and J. Gerard Belliveau, both of Fitchburg; a sister, Sister Laura Belliveau, with the Religious of Christian Education of Waltham. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Ulysses and Eloise (Landry) Belliveau, and attended Fitchburg High School. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1954.
Mr. Belliveau worked 25 years for the Fitchburg Department of Public Works. He was a member of American Legion Cleghorn Post 429.
The funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in St. Joseph's Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A calling hour is 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Louis M. WEBSTER -- Mary A. (Astrella) Bello, 86, formerly of Nancy Drive, died Monday, Jan. 1, at her daughter's home in Danielson, Conn., after a long illness.
Her husband, Geraldo C. Bello, died in 1971. She leaves three sons, John Bello of Putnam, Joseph Bello of Orlando, Fla. and Jerry Bello of Danielson; a daughter, Carmella “Camy” Roach of Danielson, with whom she lived; two brothers, Trin Astrella of Orlando and Rocco Astrella of Shrewsbury; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Carmella (Vigina), and moved to Webster in 1942. She moved to Apopka, Fla., in 1974, and moved to Danielson in 1989.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Bello owned and operated the former Camy's Donut Shop from 1957 to 1973.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, in Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St. After cremation, burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley, at the convenience of the family.
