John B. Coyle, 88

WESTLAND, Mich. -- John B. Coyle, 88, of 8531 Terri, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a former engineer, died Thursday, Jan. 18, in St. Mary's Hospital, Livonia.
His wife, Edna (McGee) Coyle, died in 1961. He leaves two daughters, Mary Siefert of Westland and Kathleen Nichols of North Grafton, Mass.; two sons, Michael S. Coyle of Marlboro, Conn., and James E. Moore of Fairfax, Va.; and seven grandchildren. Two brothers, Hugh and Norman Coyle, and two sisters, Frances Coyle and Zita Billingsly, predeceased him. He was born in Taunton, Mass., son of Hugh and Ellen (Fitzgerald) Coyle, and lived many years in Worcester and then in West Palm Beach, Fla., before moving to Westland four years ago. He graduated from Classical High School and WPI, both in Worcester.
Mr. Coyle was an aeronautical engineer for the United States government, and worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and at United Technology in East Hartford, Conn.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 22, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Arthur O. Gonyea, 75

WORCESTER -- Arthur O. Gonyea, 75, a retired police lieutenant, died Saturday, April 21, at home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Alice M.J. (Trepanier) Gonyea; three sons, Richard A. Gonyea of Shrewsbury, Robert P. Gonyea of Holden, and Matthew J. Gonyea of Oxford; a daughter, Jeanne M. Gilmore of Worcester; a brother, Albert Gonyea of Spencer; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Peter J. and Aurore (Amyot) Gonyea, and graduated from a Worcester high school and later from Quinsigamond Community College with a degree in criminal justice. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
After active duty, he served in the United States Army Reserve, where he was instrumental in forming a military police division that is still active today. He retired from the Army Reserve as a master sergeant.
Mr. Gonyea retired in 1981 after 30 years with the city police department, where he served as a lieutenant in the traffic division and night commander of that unit. He had also been a detective inspector for the state police.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, Worcester Lodge of Elks 243, and the Worcester Police Golf League. He was past president of the Worcester County Bowling Association, and was active in bowling leagues at both Auburn Ten Pin and the former Lincoln Lanes. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police and Fire Association, and the State, County, and Municipal Retired Employees Association.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 25, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Clara H. Collette, 96

FITCHBURG -- Clara H. Collette, 96, of 279 Daniels St., a retired bookkeeper and office manager, died Sunday, July 29, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital.
She leaves many nieces and nephews. She was the last of 13 children, with her twin, Alice, dying in 1994. She was born in Westminster, daughter of Alphonse and Philomene (Destroismaison) Collette, and lived many years in Fitchburg. She attended Fitchburg schools.
Miss Collette was a bookkeeper and office manager at the former John Hancock Insurance Co. on Main Street, retiring in 1967.
She enjoyed playing cards, and was a member of the Castle Club at the Joseph House.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in St. Joseph Church, 49 Woodland St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in Louis M. George Curran, 67

BOYLSTON -- George “Neil” Curran, 67, of 205 Edgebrook Drive, a former middle school teacher and a veteran of the Korean War, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in UMass Memorial Medical -- University Campus, Worcester, after a short illness.
His wife, Carolyn A. (Chamberlain) Curran, died in 1987. He leaves a son, Shawn G. Curran of Boylston; two daughters, Melanie A. Curran of Worcester and Kerri M. Chalmers of Southbridge; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Elizabeth C. Fleming of Rocky Hill, Conn., died in 1982. Another sister, Mary Anne Galvin of Worcester, died in 1993. He was born in Worcester, son of George N. Curran Sr. and Harriet E. (Monahan) Curran, and graduated from Classical High School, Worcester, in 1951. He received a bachelor's degree in education from Worcester State College in 1961. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and served in Japan and Guam. He lived several years in Northboro before moving to Boylston in 1992.
Mr. Curran taught middle school in Newton for 28 years, retiring in 1989. From 1989 to 1999, he was a school bus driver for the town of Stow. He was a former negotiator for the Massachusetts Teachers Association. He served as finance officer and executive board member for American Legion Post 234 in Northboro. He was also bar manager at the post.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in Leland-Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northboro. Burial will be in Howard Street Cemetery, Northboro. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the funeral home. WORCESTER -- Eleuterio E. Freeman, 73, of 111 Country Club Blvd., died Monday, July 23, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
He leaves his wife, Violeta Harrigan; four sons, Victor, Milton, Jorge, and Samuel Harrigan, all of Worcester; three daughters, Omaira Ortiz and Yocasta Edwards, both of Worcester, and Ruth Shepard of North Oxford; five brothers, William, Rudolph, and Charles Heskey, all of Antigua, Allen Heskey of St. Thomas, and Herschell Heskey of England; four sisters, Willimina and Clara Heskey, both of Antigua, Hillie Nicholas of Long Island, N.Y., and Albina Freeman of the Dominican Republic; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was born in San Pedro, Dominican Republic, son of William Heskey Sr. and Beula H. Freeman, and lived 16 years in Worcester.
Mr. Freeman was an interpreter for the U.S. Army peace force in the Dominican Republic. He was also an electrician in Puerto Rico, and was a machine operator in the Dominican Republic. He was a retired minister for the Church of God Prophecy in Worcester.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, in Iglesia Cristiana Pentacostal, 14 Clement St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the church. Graham, Putnam, Mahoney Funeral Parlor, 838 Main St., is directing arrangements.

FALL RIVER -- Elizabeth A. “Libby” (Dowling) Burns, 48, of Rochester Street, formerly of Sturbridge, died Sunday, June 3, at home.
She leaves her husband of 27 years, Thomas F. Burns; two daughters, Jennifer L. and Caitlin E. Burns, both of Fall River; four brothers, Robert F. Dowling Jr. of Naples, Fla., Michael P. Dowling of Milton, Vt., Peter J. Dowling of Brimfield, and Thomas A. Dowling of Sturbridge; three sisters, Judith D. Schumacher of East Woodstock, Conn., Tracy J. Perreault of North Attleboro, and Mary E. Dowling of Belchertown; several niece and nephews. She was born in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of Robert F. and Rosemary (Doyle) Dowling, and lived several years in Fitchburg before moving to Fall River in 1974. She graduated from Tantasqua Regional High School in Fiskdale in 1970 and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1974. She also received an associate's degree from Bristol Community College.
Mrs. Burns was a staff nurse with the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeastern Massachusetts for 10 years, and worked eight years at St. Anne Hospital. She was previously a teacher at Doran and Silvia elementary schools.
She enjoyed tennis, skiing, and sailing.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, from Cherry Place Home of Waring-Sullivan, Ashton, Coughlin, Driscoll, 178 Winter St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

SHREWSBURY -- Fannie Detiberiis, 92, of 9 Greenwood Ave., formerly of Uxbridge, died Friday, Jan. 19, at her niece's home.
She leaves a brother, Anthony Detiberiis of Port Ritchie, Fla.; two nephews, Felix Frabotta of Weymouth and Christopher Frabotta of North Miami, Fla.; three nieces, Palmina F. Cawley of Shrewsbury, with whom she lived; Elsie Osterman of Palmer, and Jeanette Stanovich of Uxbridge. A sister, Antonietta “Ma” Frabotta, predeceased her. She was born in Uxbridge, daughter of Angelo and Grace (Ricci) Detiberiis, and moved to Shrewsbury three years ago.
Miss Detiberiis was a supervisor 20 years in the bookkeeping department of Mark Stevens Co., a division of CVS, in Woonsocket, R.I.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Linwood.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge, with a Mass at 1 p.m. in Good Shepherd Church, 121 Linwood St., Linwood. MILFORD, N.H. -- Salvatore H. Bello, 66, of Milford, formerly of West Boylston, Mass., a senior product engineer and a musician, died Wednesday, April 4, at home.
He leaves his former wife, Anne M. (Nobrega) Bello of West Boylston; a son, Michael P. Bello of Worcester, Mass.; a daughter, Felicia Bello-Maino of West Boylston; three brothers, Francis Bello of East Falmouth, Mass., Felix Bello of Worcester and Ralph Bello of Houston; a sister, Therese Thompson of El Monte, Calif.; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Felix and Wilhelmina (Coppola) Bello. He graduated from North High School and WPI, both in Worcester, and attended University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Mr. Bello was a senior product engineer for new product development at Henrix Wire and Cable. He previously worked at General Electric Co. in Lowell, Mass., Boston Insulated Wire in Dorchester, Mass., ITT Surprenant in Clinton, Mass., and U.S. Steel in Worcester.
He was a member of Temple Band in Temple, “The Fabulads” dance band, playing saxophone and clarinet in the Worcester area, Sterling (Mass.) Cadet Band, High Society Band and “Happy Hour” jazz band at Oakdale Nursing Home, both in West Boylston, Worcester “Night Life” band, Bedford Big Band, Hudson (Mass.) Portuguese Band, and Boylston (Mass.) Band. He was a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers; a former member and chairman of West Boylston School Committee; former member of West Boylston Conservation Committee; and a master catechist of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Boylston, where he was a lector, commentator and choir member.
The funeral will be held Monday, April 9, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St., West Boylston. NORTHBRIDGE -- Peter DeVries, 83, of Swift Road, a World War II veteran and a retired machine shop worker, died Friday, Jan. 19, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Helen (DeBoer) DeVries; a son, Peter D. DeVries of Angleton, Texas; and two daughters, Brenda J. MacKay of Newburyport and Jane E. DeVries of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was born in Whitinsville, son of Bernard and Wiepk (Oppewall) DeVries, and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. DeVries worked 49 years on the tool job at Whitin Machine Shop, Whitinsville, retiring in 1982.
He was a lifelong member and past deacon of Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church. He was a member of Whitin Community Bible Class, and enjoyed attending Elderhostel programs throughout the country, travel, and reading.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church, Cross Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be private. In addition to his parents, he leaves his paternal grandmother, Rosemary A. (Tersigni) Donahue of Leominster; his maternal grandparents, James P. and K. Geraldine (Sproul) Ashe of Leominster; his maternal great-grandparents, Philip and Millie (Richard) Ashe of Leominster.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Flora E. (Richardson) Dion; three sons, Robert E. Dion of Hollis, N.H., James M. Dion of Lunenburg and Gary J. Dion of Ashburnham; two daughters, Deborah A. Dion and Cecilia E. Kenderick of West Hartford, Conn.; nine grandchildren; nephews and nieces. An aunt, Nellie Cloutier, who raised him, died in 1997. He was born in Berlin, son of Joseph and Mary (Cloutier) Dion, and lived in Fitchburg before moving to Leominster in 1988. He graduated from Berlin High School, Berlin, N.H., in 1936 and attended Hesser Business College, Manchester, N.H. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Dion was an insurance representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 20 years, before retiring in 1978. He later worked for Demoulas Super Markets and Stuart Department Stores, both in Fitchburg. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, from the Lavery-Chartland Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wilton, N.H. PASCOAG, R.I. -- Ronald K. Dion, 68, of the Sacred Heart Provincial House, 685 Steere Farm Road, formerly of Worcester, Mass., who served 49 years with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, died Thursday, July 12, in Mount St. Rita Health Center, Cumberland, after a long illness.
He leaves three sisters, Jacqueline Oliveri and Doris Kennedy, both of Worcester, and Janice Flagg of Pensauken, N.J. He was born in Worcester, son of Ralph J. and Yvonne (Bouffard) Dion, and graduated from Holy Name High School, Worcester. In 1949, he entered the congregation at Sharon, Mass., and professed his first vows in 1951 and his final vows in 1957, both at Mount St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket. He completed a bachelor of arts degree in 1958 at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. In 1980, he participated in the religious renewal program at Sangre de Cristo Center in Santa Fe, N.M.
Brother Dion taught in Woonsocket and Sharon and served 11 years as a missionary in Lesotho, Southern Africa. He then taught in New Hampshire and was a prison chaplain in Baton Rouge, La., before cooking in Brothers' residences in Nashua, N.H., and Woonsocket. He retired to the Provincial House in 1999.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Provincial House, 685 Steere Farm Road. Burial will be in Brothers Community Cemetery.
