WORCESTER -- Rose (Kasian) Kolligian of Worcester, a former business owner, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, at home after an illness.
Her husband of 57 years, Nishan O. Kolligian, died in 1983. She leaves a son, Robert O. Kolligian of Worcester; two daughters, Marian R. Schollard of Worcester and Carole N. Naumes of Marlboro; a brother, John Kasian of Revere; two sisters, Agnes Kshishian of Watertown and Dorothy Nalbandian of Boxford; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was born in Lynn, daughter of Oscar and Mary (Goolkasian) Kasian, and lived many years in Worcester. She graduated from Lynn English High School.
Mrs. Kolligian and her husband owned Hillside Spa for 25 years. She was a member of Armenian Church of Our Saviour and its Ladies Guild and Women's Welfare Association.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Gennie A. (Ciuksza) Laurie, 86, of 64 Dorchester St., a former cashier, died Saturday, Jan. 20, in the Providence Extended Care Center after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 54 years, Theodore R. Laurie; a daughter, Lorraine M. Laurie of Worcester; a sister, Helen R. Wright of Worcester; a nephew. Her brother, Joseph V. Ciuksza, died in 1983. She was born in Millbury, daughter of Zygmunt A. and Antonia A. (Falewicz) Ciuksza, and moved to Worcester in 1932. She graduated from Millbury High School and the former Fairchild's Office School.
Mrs. Laurie was a cashier at the former Alpha Lunch and later at the former Denholm's Department Store.
She was a member of the Ascension Church, the Green Island Residents Group Inc., and did crafts for the former Green Island Adult Arts and Crafts Club.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, from Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Ascension Church, 40 Vernon St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. AUBURN -- Alice M. Laycock, 83, of 12 Aurilla St., died Sunday, Jan. 21, in the Meadows of Leicester.
Her husband of 15 years, Joseph A. Laycock, died in 1964. She leaves two sons, Stephen J. Laycock of Worcester and Gerald P. Laycock of North Oxford; two granddaughters; four nieces and a nephew. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas and Nora (Higgins) Duggan, and lived many years in Auburn . She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester.
Mrs. Laycock was an administrative assistant for the Talbot Trading Co.
She was a former member of the board of trustees of the South Worcester Library. She enjoyed reading and walking, and was an avid golfer and bowler. She was a founding member of North American Martyrs Church.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, Callahan Brothers Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. WEST BROOKFIELD -- John W. Lindquist, 52, of Knollsyde Drive, a salesman, died Friday, Jan. 19, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
He leaves his wife of 19 years, Catherine M. (Mitchell) Sullivan-Lindquist; a son, Timothy Lindquist of Worcester; four stepsons, Scott V. Sullivan of Clearwater, Fla., Mark C. Sullivan of Wellesley, Corey D. Sullivan of West Brookfield and Brian E. Sullivan of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Walter and Philomena Lindquist, and graduated from Burncoat High School in Worcester. He attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, and lived 11 years in North Brookfield and 14 years in West Brookfield. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Lindquist was a salesman 15 years for Sherwin-Williams Automotive Paint & Supplies in Worcester. He was previously a liquor salesman 20 years in the Worcester-Boston area.
The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main St. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Buddy Dog Humane Society, PO Box 296, Sudbury, MA 01776.

SHREWSBURY -- Louisa H. (Ashton) Lusignan, 79, of 40 Julio Drive, died Friday, April 6, in Shrewsbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Her husband, Paul E. Lusignan, died in 1996. She leaves three sons, Michael P. Lusignan of Leicester, Peter D. Lusignan of Shrewsbury and Stephen M. Lusignan of Worcester; three daughters, Anne M. Prensner of Wellesley, Barbara L. Dion of West Boylston and Carol G. Lusignan of New York City; a brother, Ronald H. Ashton of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam; seven grandchildren; a nephew and two nieces. She was born in Wigan, England, daughter of Henry A. and Annie (Prescott) Ashton, and was raised in Pittsfield; she moved to Shrewsbury more than 40 years ago. She graduated with honors from Pittsfield High School, where she wrote an award-winning essay. She attended Westminster Choir College.
Mrs. Lusignan was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, its Martha Mary Society, the Altar Guild, the Braille Association and the National Association for Mental Health. She volunteered for UMass Memorial Medical Center.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 West Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 9, in Howard C. FITCHBURG -- Patrick J. Maloney Jr., 88, of 500 Old South St., died Saturday, Jan. 20, in the Leo P. LaChance Center, in Gardner, after a short illness.
His wife of 58 years, Eileen F. (O'Keefe) Maloney, died in 1999. He leaves two nephews, John P. McDermott III of Houston, Texas, and David Fulton of New York City; two nieces, Katharine Fulton of Phillipston and Amanda Simkewicz of Templeton. A sister, Mary McDermott, and his step-mother, Frances (Noon) Maloney, predeceased him. He was born in Fitchburg, son of the Patrick and Hannah (Whalen) Maloney, and lived six years in Waterford, Ireland, before returning to Fitchburg. He attended Fitchburg High School and the former, Fitchburg Business College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Maloney co-owned and operated the former Maloney and Lombard Insurance and Real Estate Co. for several years. He later worked many years at the Fitchburg District Court House.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fitchburg Knights of Columbus Council 99, and St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg. Mr. Maloney enjoyed politics, reading and traveling to Cape Cod and Florida.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in the St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Burial will be in the St. Bernard's Cemetery. Elizabeth Shanahan, 86; nurse's aide, volunteer
WORCESTER -- Elizabeth B. (Pendelton) Shanahan, 86, formerly of 49 Pleasant Valley Drive, a former nurse's aide, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.
Her husband, Paul Shanahan, died in 1993. She leaves a son, Kevin Shanahan of Shrewsbury; two granddaughters, Erin and Meaghan Shanahan, both of Shrewsbury; nephews and nieces. She was born in Whitinsville, daughter of Geo and Helen (Blair) Pendelton, and lived most of her life in Worcester.
Mrs. Shanahan was a nurse's aide four years at Lincoln Nursing Home. Previously, she was a cosmetologist 30 years for Vanity Beauty Parlor. She formerly worked at DePol Plastics and Becker College. She was a former member of Adams Square Baptist Church, and a volunteer reader at Worcester Arts Magnet School.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling period is 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home.

WORCESTER -- Antoinette M. (Lapriore) Simoncini, 86, of 21 Sherbrook Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 21, in St. Francis Home after an illness.
Her husband, Alberico J. Simoncini, died in 1977. She leaves two sons, Ronald A. and Raymond A. Simoncini, both of Worcester; a daughter, Annette Simoncini of Worcester; two brothers, Pasquale “Pat” Lapriore of Worcester and Angelo Lapriore of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two sisters, Madelyn Troiano of Worcester and Josephine Pizzarella, both of Worcester; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. A son, Dr. William A. Simoncini, died in 1986. Three brothers, Robert, Michael, and Frank Lapriore, and a sister, Angela Lapriore, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Angelo and Antoinette (Lanava) Lapriore.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Simoncini owned the Worcester Construction Co. before retiring.
She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church more than 47 years. She was a member of the Bishop Wright Catholic Daughters of America.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 75 Alvarado Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Charles J. Swallow, 89

WORCESTER -- Charles J. Swallow, 89, of 2 Mohawk Ave., a retired steel company executive, died Thursday, Jan. 18, in Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Westboro, after an illness.
His wife, Myrtle I. (Day) Swallow, died in 1996. He leaves two sons, Harold L. Swallow of Northboro and Edward C. Swallow of Ohio; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. A son, Donald E. Swallow, died in 1992. He was born in Leicester, son of Basil and Theresa (Cooper) Swallow, and lived in California and Ohio before moving to Worcester more than 40 years ago.
Mr. Swallow was general manager of operations many years for Johnson Steel and Wire Co., throughout the U.S. and South America. After retiring, he was a consultant for many steel companies.
He was a member of Morning Star Lodge of Masons and the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of the Scottish Rite in Cleveland.
The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn.
Walter M. Szadek, 80

HARDWICK -- Walter M. “Jake” Szadek, 80, of 61 High St., Gilbertville, a World War II veteran and a retired custodian, died Thursday, Jan. 18, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Nellie A. (Olszewski) Szadek; two sisters, Bridget Turek and Rose Banas, both of Ware; nephews and nieces. He was born in Ware, son of Michael and Mary (Guzik) Szadek, and lived 56 years in Gilbertville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Szadek was a custodian at Hardwick Elementary School, retiring in 1982. He previously was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9092, both in Gilbertville.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 22, from Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., Ware, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, 64 Church St., Gilbertville. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home. STERLING -- Beth (Hansberry) Thomas, 79, of Sholan Terrace, formerly of 150 Shirley Road Lancaster, a veteran of World War II, died Monday, June 4, at HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after an illness.
Her husband of 34 years, Austin R. Thomas, died in 1991. She leaves two daughters, Linda Kennedy of Framingham and Gail O'Connell of Sterling; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-sons; three step-daughters, step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Benjamin Hansberry, and two sisters, Ruth Taylor and Norma Comasse, died before her. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Benjamin and Annie (Holgate) Hansberry, lived in Lancaster for 35 years, and then moved to Fitchburg for two years, before coming to Sterling two years ago. She attended local schools and a local hair dressing school. She was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Leominster.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in the Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St., Fitchburg. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, in the funeral home. After cremation, a committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, in Forest Hill Cemetery.
