WORCESTER -- Evelyn E. Scipione, 80, formerly of Worcester, died at the Lanessa Nursing Home, Webster, Wednesday, Aug. 9.
She leaves a sister, Dorothy Shaw of Holliston; several nieces and nephews, including Beverly Berthel and Jean King, both of Worcester; Muriel Ventres of Holden and Mary Wanamaker of Paxton. She was born in Boston, daughter of Frank A. and Florence V. (Tyler) Scipione, and attended Lexington schools.
The graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St., is directing arrangements.
Margaret A. Seney, 65

WOODSTOCK -- Margaret A. Seney, 65, of 14 Applewood Drive, Woodstock, a teacher, died Friday, August 4, at UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, after an illness.
She leaves her husband, Edmond L. Seney; a son, Derek Seney of Storrs, Connecticut; a daughter, Monique Horan of Webster; a brother, Wallace Howe of Abington; four nephews; and three nieces. A brother, Ritchie Howe, died in 1997. She was born in Abington, daughter of Norman and Ruth (Lees) Howe, and had lived in Woodstock most of her adult life. She graduated from Framingham State College with a degree in education.
Mrs. Seney was a teacher at Woodstock Academy, teaching home economics and physical education for girls. She later served as a substitute teacher at the Academy for more than 30 years. During her years at Woodstock Academy, she also coached girls basketball, softball, field hockey and cheerleading. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Church, Pomfret, Conn., and was a member of St. Monica's Guild. She was also a member of the Connecticut Education Association, the Young Homemakers Group, the Bracken Memorial Library Association and the 4-H Club, for which she served as treasurer.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, from the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity Church, Routes 44 and 169, Pomfret, Conn. Burial will be in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Gilman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town St., Norwich, CT 06360.
Donald H. Sennott, 82

LEOMINSTER -- Donald H. Sennott, 82, of 87 Carriage Court, a retired railroad conductor, died Saturday, Aug. 12, in The Highlands Nursing Home, Fitchburg, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Muriel L. (Urquhart) Sennott; a son, Donald H. Sennott Jr. of Athol; a daughter, Donna Whipple of South Hamilton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Alfred and Margaret (Marshall) Sennott, and graduated from North High School, Worcester.
Mr. Sennott was a railroad conductor 40 years for B&M Railroad, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the C.W. Moore Masonic Lodge, Fitchburg, and the Aleppo Shriners.
The funeral service will be private. After cremation at Swedish Crematory, burial will be in Swedish Cemetery, both in Worcester. There are no public calling hours. WESTBORO -- Helen M. (Gerard) Shoemaker, 93, of 1 Lyman St., a former church organist and music teacher, died Friday, Aug. 11, in Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Her husband, Robert Shoemaker, died in 1991. She leaves a son, Theodore M. Shoemaker of Boylston; a sister, Lucile Anderson of Long Beach, Calif.; a grandson; nephews and nieces. She was born in Delphi, Ind., daughter of Charles and Jesse (Hall) Gerard, and lived many years in Winnetka, Ill., 10 years in Long Beach and three years in Boylston before moving to Westboro in 1995. She earned a bachelor's degree in music from University of Michigan.
Mrs. Shoemaker was a church organist, accompanist, and music teacher more than 50 years in St. Charles and Winnetka, Ill.
She was past president of the Chicago Club of Women Organists.
The funeral service will be held in California. Burial will be in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Calif. There are no local calling hours. Leland-Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northboro, is directing local arrangements.
Ruth C. Sidebotham, 97

CROMWELL, Conn. -- Ruth C. (Bernston) Sidebotham, 97, of Missionary Road, formerly of Woodstock, a former bookkeeper, died Monday, July 31, in Pilgrim Manor.
Her husband, Paul Erickson, died in 1936. Her second husband, Gustave Stromgren, died in 1978. Her third husband, John Sidebotham, died in 1991. She leaves two daughters, Constance Johnson of Westfield, Mass., and Audrey Smith of Freedom, Maine; a stepson, Kenneth Stromgren of Kaneohe, Hawaii; a brother, Leonard Bernston of Woodstock; a sister, Esther Pearson of Woodstock; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. four sisters, Hulda and Helmar, and Alma Johnson, and Mildred Hencken, died before her. A brother, Emil Bernston, died before her. She was born in Corona, Long Island, N.Y., daughter of Charles A. and Hilma (Johnson) Bernston, and lived in Woodstock for more than 35 years. She moved to Cromwell in 1988. She graduated from Barnard College in New York.
Mrs. Sidebotham was a bookkeeper for many years at her father's business, Johnson & Bernston Inc. in Corona, N.Y.
She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock, where she served on several boards and committees. She was the church financial secretary for many years, and was a member of the church choir.
The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in Evangelical Covenant Church, Child Hill Road, Woodstock. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. WORCESTER -- Florence L. (Faler) Soderblom, 90, of 20 Willard Ave., a retired trimmer, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at her daughter's home after a long illness.
Her husband of 53 years, Carl E. Soderblom, died in 1983. She leaves a son, Carl R. Soderblom of Worcester; a daughter, Ruth C. Giard of Worcester, with whom she lived; a brother, Paul C. Faler of Worcester; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. A son, David W. Soderblom, died in 1990. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Gustaf and Sofia (Smeds) Faler.
Mrs. Soderblom was a trimmer at the former B.S. and G. Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Bethlehem Covenant Church and the Covenant Women.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the church vestry. BOURNE -- Andrew E. Sokolowski, 73, of 16 Brooks Road, Monument Beach, formerly of Worcester, a World War II veteran and a retired sheet metalist, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, in New England Baptist Hospital, Boston.
He leaves two sons, Andrew R. Sokolowski of Southbridge and Edward Sokolowski of Monument Beach; a sister, Lucy Gedman of Worcester; his companion, Mary Blum, with whom he lived; his former wife, Eva (Pepin) James of Holden; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Andrew and Magdalena (Angulewicz) Sokolowski, and moved to Monument Beach in 1986. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Sokolowski worked at South Worcester Sheet Metal Co., and later as a sheet metalist at Heald Machine, Worcester, before retiring. He then was a security guard at Anna Maria College, Worcester, until 1986, and later at Woods Hole Oceanographic until 1998.
He formerly attended St. Mary's Church in Worcester. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5988, the Auburn Elks, the Worcester Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 318 of Worcester, and the American Legion Post 188 of Sandwich. He was a longtime member of the Worcester surf casting club, and enjoyed fishing and football.

WORCESTER -- Mira (Grunbaum) Sommer, 97, formerly of 425 Pleasant St., died Friday, Aug. 4, in the Jewish Healthcare Center.
Her husband of 57 years, Arno Sommer, died in 1991. She leaves a son, Sigfried Sommer of Boston; and nieces and nephews. She was born in Themar, Germany, daughter of Hugo and Klara (Schloss) Grunbaum, and lived 52 years in Worcester.
Mrs. Sommer was a member of Tefereth Israel Synagogue, Yeshiva Achei Timimim and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Healthcare Center.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery, Leicester. Memorial observance will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
Wilfred J. Spring Sr.

GARDNER -- Wilfred J. Spring Sr., 81, of 3 Ford St., a retired foreman, died Saturday, Aug. 5, in Heywood Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Lillian H. (Gensiejewski) Spring; two sons, Wilfred J. Spring Jr. of Houston, Texas and Bruce A. Spring of Hubbardston; a sister, Christine Boris of Holden; three grandsons; nieces and nephews. A brother, George Spring of Holden in 1984, and another brother, Harold Spring of Salem, died in 1961. Four sisters died before him: Rena Hughes of Port Charlotte, Fla. in 1998, Bernice Elie of Hanover, Md. in 1990, Doris Caplette of North Oxford in 1991, and Celestia Spring of Holden in 1986. A granddaughter died in 1995. He was born in Holden, November 2, son of George and Lena (Rivard) Spring, and lived in Holden for many years moving to Gardner in 1945. He attended Holden schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific; he received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Spring worked at Simplex Time Recorder Co. for many years, retiring as the paint shop foreman in 1984. He was a call firefighter for the City of Gardner for more than 20 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Polish-American Veterans of Greater Gardner, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 905, the Disabled American Veterans of Fitchburg, and the Polish-American Citizens Club and Country Club. He was active in the Simplex Drum Corps and was a past president.
The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 10, from the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the funeral home. FALMOUTH -- Kathryn J. (Durkin) Cormier, 72, of 209 County Road in North Falmouth, formerly of Fitchburg and Gardner, a retired secretary, died Monday, April 2, in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Brighton, after a long illness.
Her husband, Sylvio R. Cormier, died in 1988. She leaves three brothers, Robert J. and William P. Durkin, both of Winchester, N.H., and Thomas H. Durkin of Wilmington, Vt., and Waquoit; a sister, Rosemary A. Gelep of Mashpee; nephews and nieces. A sister, Anne F. Walsh, died in 1981. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Clarence J. and Katherine M. (Shea) Durkin, and lived most of her life in the Fitchburg area before moving to North Falmouth 10 years ago. She graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School, Fitchburg, in 1945, and attended Becker Junior College in Worcester.
Mrs. Durkin was a secretary at General Electric Co., Fitchburg, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, Fitchburg. She enjoyed bowling and outdoor sports, including archery and hunting, and she loved animals.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 5, from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. A calling hour is 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, April 5, in the funeral home. WINCHENDON -- Ruth E. (Divoll) Kastal Sprowson, 93, of 16 Ready Drive, a retired lab secretary, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Baldwinville Nursing Home in Baldwinville after an illness.
Her first husband of 12 years, Karol Kastal, died in 1937. Her second husband of 35 years, James Austin Sprowson, died in 1976. She leaves three daughters, Shirley R. Spillman of Palm Bay, Fla., Victoria Hamel of Grant, Fla., and Eleanor M. Hobbs of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Elton Divoll of Royalston; two sisters, Evelyn Twing of Westminster and Thelma Divoll of Baldwinville; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. A son, Karol A. Kastal, died in 1998. A daughter, Eunice L. Leazott, died several years ago. Four brothers, Walter, Elmer, Fred and George Divoll, died before her. A sister, Louise Smith, also died before her. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of Arthur and Amy (Day) Divoll, and lived in Fitchburg and Ashby. She then lived in Palm Bay, Fla., Melbourne, Fla., and Grant, Fla. She moved back to Winchendon in March. She graduated from Murdock High School.
Mrs. Sprowson worked at the former Baldwinville Cottages for many years and later worked as a lab secretary at the former Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg for many years.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in the Ashburnham Funeral Chapel of John A. Bosk Inc., 33 R Main St., Ashburnham. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg.

CLINTON -- Susan G. (Heighton) Stowell, 53, of 931 Main St., died Friday, August 4 in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 32 years, Raymond G. Stowell; a son, Raymond S. Stowell of Ware; her mother, Sally (Brown) Heighton of Clinton; a brother, David A. Heighton of Clinton; a sister, Carol Alden of Lancaster; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Clinton, daughter of David Heighton and lived there all her life. She graduated from Clinton High School.
Mrs. Stowell worked at the Clinton Daily Item.
Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The James E. Watson Funeral Home, 149 Water St., directed arrangements.
