Hector J. Cournoyer, 68, Korean War veteran
THOMPSON -- Hector J. Cournoyer, 68, of 21 Marcy Lane, Grosvenordale, a retired machinist, died Friday, June 1, at home after an illness.He leaves his wife of 44 years, Lorraine (Dusoe) Cournoyer; a son, Richard Cournoyer of Auburndale, Fla.; three daughters, Jeannine Witter of Plainfield, Conn., Karen Cournoyer of Grosvernordale and Lisa LaFontaine of North Grosvenordale; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was born in Putnam, son of Azarias and Orise (Forcier) Cournoyer, and lived most of his life in Thompson.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Cournoyer was a machinist for more than 30 years at Interoyal Corp. in Plainfield, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Oscar W. Swanson Post 67 American Legion.
The funeral will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday, June 4, from Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., North Grosvenordale, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., North Grosvenordale. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 3, in the funeral home. George Margiolas, 69

HUDSON -- George N. Margiolas, 69, of 362 Main St., a Coca-Cola Co. employee, died Friday, Aug. 4, at Worcester Medical Center, after being stricken ill while driving on Route 290 in Worcester.
His wife, Florence E. (O'Connor) Margiolas, died in 1994. He leaves two sons, John J. Margiolas of Marlboro and Robert A. Margiolas of Hudson; a daughter, Nicole Margiolas of Rochester, N.H.; and seven grandchildren. He was born in New York, son of George and Esther (Farrow) Margiolas. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Margiolas was an employee of the Coca-Cola Co. for 35 years before retiring. He also worked part time for Curry Printing Co. in Westboro.
He was a member of the Local Teamsters Union and of the Marlboro Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was an avid Red Sox fan.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 8, from the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home.

UXBRIDGE -- Brian J. Bouchard, 43, of 191 Aldrich St., died Tuesday, May 1, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident that day in Milford.
He leaves his wife of 16 years, Celine (Tessier) Bouchard; a son, Corey P. Bouchard of Uxbridge; a daughter, Haley T. Bouchard of Uxbridge; his mother, Cora (Alberico) Bouchard of Mendon; two brothers, Ronald Bouchard of New Sweden, Maine, and Stanley Bouchard of Thompson; nephews and nieces. He was born in Framingham, son of Stanley Bouchard, and lived most of his life in Mendon before moving to Uxbridge in 1995. He graduated from Nipmuc Regional High School, Upton, in 1976.
Mr. Bouchard owned and operated B&B Woodworking. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. He enjoyed fishing.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a service at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial will be in Swandale Cemetery, Mendon. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the funeral home.
Fred McCrillis, 81

EAST BROOKFIELD -- Fred McCrillis, 81, of 468 Podunk Road, a World War II veteran and a retired optical company worker, died Saturday, Aug. 12, in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Helen M. (Miller) McCrillis; three sons, Fred M. McCrillis of Woodstock, Donald R. McCrillis of Charlton and Michael J. McCrillis of East Brookfield; a brother, George McCrillis of East Brookfield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Warren, son of George and Pearl (Martin) McCrillis, and lived 73 years in East Brookfield. He graduated from David Prouty High School, Spencer, and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. McCrillis worked 40 years for American Optical Co., Southbridge, retiring in 1982.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in Podunk Cemetery, Podunk Road. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., North Brookfield. James McGreehan Jr.

HARVARD -- Dr. James R. McGreehan Jr., 53, of Harvard, died Saturday, August 5, in Harvard.
He leaves his wife, Carmela M. (Natale) McGreehan; a son, Owen A. McGreehan of Harvard; a daughter, Cara L. McGreehan of New Jersey; a stepson, John Kelley of Dartmouth; his father, James R. McGreehan Sr. of Billerica; a sister, Jean McGreehan of Billerica; a grandson. His first wife, Deidre (Morretto) McGreehan, and a son, James R. McGreehan III, died before him. He was born and raised in Boston. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed his residency at the University of Maryland Hospital from 1973 to 1976.
Dr. McGreehan operated a private practice in Bound Brook, N.J., for 17 years. He was a member of the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., and from 1982 to 1986 he was director of the department of family practice. He practiced at the Lahey Hitchcock Clinic in Nashua, N.H., from 1994 to 1998. For the past two years, he practiced at the Fallon Medical Center in Leominster.
He was a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Jersey.
The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 10, from Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Still River Road. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Howard McGuiness, 79; World War II veteran

SHREWSBURY -- Howard J. McGuiness, 79, of 26 Dawson Circle, a World War II veteran and a retired police dispatcher and former bricklayer, died Friday, Aug. 11, in the Christopher House, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 27 years, Dorothy R. (Mandella) McGuiness; two sons, Dennis H. McGuiness of Worcester and David J. McGuiness of Rockledge, Fla.; two brothers, William J. McGuiness of Worcester and Charles E. McGuiness of Spencer; two sisters, Doris M. McGuiness of Shrewsbury and Florence A. Carlson of Worcester; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Eva P. (Prunier) McGuiness, died in 1969. He was born in Worcester, son of William A. and Florence A. (Lane) McGuiness, and lived there most of his life, moving here in 1962. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in Europe and earning the Purple Heart.
Mr. McGuiness was a bricklayer for J.S. Prunier & Sons Co., retiring in 1975. He also worked for the Bricklayers Union Local 6, both in Worcester. He later was a dispatcher for the Shrewsbury Police Department, retiring in 1986. He was a special police officer for Shrewsbury Auxiliary Police Force, retiring as a lieutenant. He was a gatekeeper for the athletic department at College of the Holy Cross and a tour guide for Fox Tours, both in Worcester.
He served as a deputy tax collector and town meeting member in Shrewsbury, and was a constable for Shrewsbury, Westboro, Grafton and Worcester. He was a founder of the Shrewsbury Police Cadets; past president of the Southern Massachusetts Police Association; a founder and past president of Tom Ash Little League in Worcester; past commander of Post 341, Main South American Legion; past Worcester County American Legion Sergeant at Arms and a member of its installation team; past subdistrict 3 commander; a member of the Italian American Victory Club, the Victor Quarranta Post American Legion, and the Worcester County Sheriff's Association; and a member and past counselor for the United Commercial Travelers.
The funeral, with full military honors, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial donations made to a charity.

WORCESTER -- Dorothy “Barbara” Anderson, 68, of 111 Country Club Blvd., a retired medical technician, died Thursday, April 5, at home after an illness.
She leaves several cousins, including Stephen D. and Gail E. Brown, both of Worcester, Richard B. Brown of Barre and Gerald Watts of Randolph. She was born in Worcester, daughter of David and Eleanor (Walker) Anderson.
Miss Anderson was a registered medical technician at various nursing homes in Worcester and Northboro before retiring. She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13, in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., is directing arrangements.
Peter P. Mendala Sr.

SPENCER -- Peter P. Mendala Sr., 54, of 126 Main St., a machinist, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, at home after a long illness.
He leaves two sons, Timothy Mendala of Holland and Peter Mendala Jr. of Spencer; three brothers, Edwin Mendala of Brimfield, and Francis and William Mendala, both of North Brookfield; three sisters, Margaret Mitchell of North Brookfield, Mary Ann Heyes of South Barre, and Dorothy Richert of Oxford; two granddaughters. He was born in Ware, son of Francis J. and Mary H. (Kulas) Mendala.
Mr. Mendala was a machinist many years at Optivac in North Brookfield.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in North Brookfield. He was a guitarist for local bands, including the Korn Kobs, Country Living and Joey D. & The New England Country Boys. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a farmer by trade.
The memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., North Brookfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Central Mass., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

NORTH BROOKFIELD -- Mary H. (Kulis) Mendala, 84, of 16 Reed Ave., formerly of Southbridge, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Providence House Nursing Home, Southbridge, after a long illness.
Her husband of 40 years, Francis J. Mendala, died in 1976. She leaves three daughters, Margaret R. Mitchell of Warren, Dorothy C. Richert of Oxford and Mary Ann M. Heyes of South Barre; four sons, Frank J. and William C. Mendala, both of North Brookfield, Peter Mendala of Spencer and Edwin B. Mendala of Brimfield; four sisters, Jenny Hinrich, Helen Derosier and Adele Bachand, all of Southbridge, and Wanda Donahue of Dudley; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. A son, Richard Mendala, and a brother, Mario Kulis, died before her. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Boleslaw and Felicia (Muraski) Kulis and was educated in Southbridge.
Mrs. Mendala was a member of St. Joseph's Church, and enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening, cooking, and bingo.
The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 11, from Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Main Street. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Mustafa Mitwali, 51, famous Egyptian actor

CAIRO, Egypt -- Mustafa Mitwali, a popular Egyptian film and stage actor, died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 51.
Mitwali died at home shortly after returning from Cairo's Pyramids Theater, where he was playing in “Bodyguard,” a long-running stage comedy, his family said.
Family members said he had complained of chest pains on the way home. He was buried later yesterday in Cairo after a funeral attended by actors and fans.
Mitwali starred in several plays alongside Adel Imam, Egypt's popular comedian.
Mitwali studied at Cairo's Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts. After graduating in 1970, he started his career in television soap operas and went on to act in historical dramas for many years. His first film was “Bab Zuweila,” directed by Nour el-Damerdash.
Later he acted in theater and took lead roles alongside Imam in his four successful plays: “A Witness Who Saw Nothing,” “Seyed, the Servant,” “The Leader” and “Bodyguard.”

WORCESTER -- Carmen L. Montalvo, 42, of 15 Russell St., died Tuesday, Aug. 8, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.
Her husband, Israel Semiday, died in 1995. She leaves four sons, Israel J., Wilson J., Angel L., and Edwin Semiday, all of Worcester; two daughters, Carmen P. and Evelyn J. Rodriquez, both of Worcester; four brothers, Wilson, Nasario, Felix, and Guarberto Montalvo, all of Worcester; three sisters, Maria T. Franceschi, Adarelis Correa, and Natividad Cruz, all of Worcester; three grandchildren; more than 100 nieces and nephews. She was born in Maricao, Puerto Rico, daughter of Justino Montalvo and Dalila Irizarry, and lived in Philadelphia for several years. She lived in Worcester for around 11 years. She graduated from North High School in 1976.
Mrs. Montalvo was a machine operator at the L and R Manufacturing Co. for several years.
The funeral will be Friday, Aug. 11, from Graham Putnam and Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Cathedral, 15 Chatham St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in the funeral home.

MARLBORO -- Pamela J. Montreuil, 37, of 214 West Main St., a former film splicer, died Saturday, Aug. 12, in University Commons, Worcester, after an illness.
She leaves her mother, Beverly A. (Dufault) Montreuil Roder of Marlboro; a brother, Robert W. Montreuil Jr. of Marlboro; two stepbrothers, James Roder of Marlboro and Terrance Roder of Montana; a stepsister, Hazel Riley of Worcester; her maternal grandfather, Wilrose Dufault of Hudson; her maternal grandmother, Cecilia Gonzalez of Hudson; a niece and a nephew. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Robert W. Montreuil Sr., and graduated from Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in 1980.
Mrs. Montreuil was a film splicer for two years at Qualex Inc. She previously was a quality control inspector for 10 years at Quantum of Hudson and Shrewsbury.
