Frank R. Aspinwall, 68

SOUTHBORO -- Frank R. Aspinwall, 68, of Southboro, a retired fire chief, died Saturday, Aug. 12, in MetroWest Medical Center, Framingham, after a short illness.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Patricia (Garvey) Aspinwall; a son, Stephen Aspinwall of Northboro; four daughters, Donna Hurst of Northboro, Deborah Mattioli of Dennis Port, De Costanza of Natick and Linda Markarian of Sterling; a brother, Frederick Aspinwall of Millbury; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, George Aspinwall, died before him. He was born in Springfield, son of Ralph and Helen (Chedaynne) Aspinwall, and moved to Southboro in 1952. He graduated from Sutton High School in 1949.
Mr. Aspinwall was a plumber and pipe fitter for several Eastern Massachusetts plumbing contractors. At age 14, he became a call firefighter in Sutton. He later was a call firefighter for Southboro and became a lieutenant in 1963 and the first full-time Southboro firefighter in 1986, when he was promoted to captain. He was acting chief before being officially named in 1986. He retired in 1991. He had served as director of Civil Defense, fire warden, and was a special policeman for the town of Southboro.
He was a member of St. Matthew Church, the Fire Chiefs Association of Central Massachusetts, the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Fire Chiefs, the Society of Fire Service Instructors, the National and Massachusetts Registered Emergency Medical Technicians, the F.D. Newton Hand Tub Association, the Blackstone Valley Foresters and the Maynard Elks; was a member and founder of District 14 Fire Chiefs; and served on the Southboro Housing Opportunity Partnership.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in St. Matthew Church, Highland Street. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, in Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St. Memorial donations may be made to Southboro Ambulance Fund, Main Street; or to St. Matthew's Building Fund, 105 Southville Road, both Southboro, MA 01772.
Raymond G. Bachand, 79

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Raymond G. Bachand, 79, of Brook Road, a World War II veteran and a retired police officer, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Doris (Chamberland) Bachand; two daughters, Jane M. Bachand of Denver and Carryl Provencher of Southbridge; a brother, Lionel Bachand of Southbridge; two sisters, Rita Chamberland and Theresa Bellerose, both of Southbridge; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of Alfred and Emelia (Lafleche) Bachand. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and participating in action against the Japanese on Bougainville.
Mr. Bachand was a Southbridge police officer for 25 years, retiring in 1978. He previously was a school bus driver for Southbridge Livery, and had also been an attendant more than 35 years for Sansoucy Funeral Home, retiring due to illness.
He was a member of Notre Dame Church, and the League of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6055, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, in Notre Dame Church, 446 Main St. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harrington Memorial Home Care Hospice Program, 61 Pine St., Southbridge, MA 01550. Catherine Ashworth, 88

NORTHBRIDGE -- Catherine (Ballou) Ashworth, 88, formerly of 17 Douglas Road, Whitinsville, a former bakery worker, died Thursday, Aug. 10, in Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Worcester.
Her husband, James E. Ashworth Sr., died in 1966. She leaves four sons, James E. Ashworth Jr. of Charleston, S.C., Roger Ballou of North Smithfield, R.I., John H. Ashworth of Oxford and Jeffrey A. Ashworth of Auburn; a daughter, Catherine Sansoucie of Moncks Corner, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A brother, Louis Ballou of Woonsocket, R.I., died in February. She was born and raised in Woonsocket, daughter of Louis and Catherine (Lyons) Ballou, and lived in Slatersville, R.I., before moving to Whitinsville in 1950 and to the nursing home in 1995. She graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1929.
Mrs. Ashworth worked several years in the bakery at Jordan Marsh, Worcester. She also worked at Prest Wheel Co., South Grafton, and at Barnard's Department Store, Worcester.
She was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Whitinsville and a member of Lady Gordon Lodge, Daughters of Scotia.
The funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 14, from Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in the funeral home.
Mary C. Sullivan, 84

ROCKLAND -- Mary C. (O'Brien) Sullivan, 84, of Rockland, a retired co-owner of Sullivan Funeral Homes, died Saturday, June 2, in the South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, after a short illness.
Her husband, Albert E. Sullivan Sr., predeceased her. She leaves three sons, Albert E. Sullivan Jr. of Hanover, Michael J. Sullivan of Eastham, and Paul P. Sullivan of Rockland; a brother, Dr. Michael J.J. O'Brien of San Pedro, Calif.; three sisters, Kathleen N. Smith of Northampton, Eileen R. Ferguson of Leicester, and Agnes P. Gardner of Worcester; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Born in Worcester, daughter of Bartholomew and Nora (Wrixon) O'Brien, she graduated from St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester, in 1937.Until her marriage in 1941, Mrs. Sullivan worked as night supervisor of nurses at South Shore Hospital. A licensed funeral director, having graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy in 1947, she was co-owner of the Sullivan Funeral Homes. Subsequently, she worked at Eye Health Services in Weymouth and then as head of medical records for the former North River Nursing Home, Pembroke, and the former Del Manor Nursing Home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Mildred Alger, 97

WEBSTER -- Mildred (Bailey) Alger, 97, of 751 School St., formerly of 23 First St., a retired librarian and former teacher, died Saturday, Aug. 5, in Hubbard Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Her husband, Edmund B. Alger, died in 1984. She leaves a sister, Isabelle Bailey of Webster; several nephews and nieces. She was born in New Sharon, Maine, daughter of B. Corydon and Mary (Perkins) Bailey, and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University. She received a certificate in library sciences from Simmons College.
After teaching English in Rockport, she was librarian at Bartlett High School, retiring in 1963.
She was a member of United Church of Christ, Federated, and developed the church library. She was clerk of the church for 20 years. She was chairperson of the local American Association of Retired Persons Scholarship Committee for 20 years.
She accumulated a large mineral collection, which she donated to the University of Maine-Farmington. She wrote poetry and painted. She was an accomplished musician, and enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and traveling.
The memorial service will be incorporated with the regular church service at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, in United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church St. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mount Zion Cemetery. Larry J. Army, 45

MILLBURY -- Larry J. Army, 45, of 38 Maple St., died Monday, April 2, in St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves a son, Keith R. Army of Worcester; two daughters, Holly M. Army and Jasmin R. Army, both of Worcester; his mother, Virginia E. (Benson) Army of Millbury; a brother, Glenn P. Army of Auburn; a sister, Ann C. King of Millbury; a granddaughter; a nephew and two nieces; his fiance, Linda Kline of Millbury. He was born in Worcester, son of Arthur E. Army. He graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in 1973.
Mr. Army was a small engine mechanic at Caola Equipment in Worcester. He previously worked at Worcester General Repair in Worcester.
He was a Millbury Little League Coach for many years.
The funeral will be held Thursday, April 5, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, 59 Main St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. Victor C. Auger, 70

EAST BROOKFIELD -- Victor C. Auger, 70, of 133 Harrington St., a Korean War veteran and retired machine operator, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in Quaboag on the Common in West Brookfield after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Catherine E. (Dunn) Auger; two sons, David M. Auger of East Brookfield and Kevin Auger of Texas; a daughter, Christal J. Gouin of Barre; a brother, Norman Auger of Cape Coral, Fla.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Spencer, son of Victor W. and Vida (Charland) Auger, and moved to East Brookfield in 1992. He graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Auger was a machine operator 25 years at Warren Pumps in Warren, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Spencer.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, from the J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 60 Maple St., Spencer. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the funeral home. Eleanor Fitzgibbons, 78

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Eleanor Marie (McGuire) Fitzgibbons, 78, of Fort Worth, and formerly of Worcester, a former hospital administrator, died Saturday, July 1, in Fort Worth.
Her husband, James J. Fitzgibbons, died in 1974. She leaves three daughters, Patricia Fitzggibbons Griggs of Blanco, Texas, Joan Fitzgibbons Ball of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mary Fitzgibbons Reimer Witherspoon of Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A grandson, David Griggs, died in 1980, and a granddaughter, Joan Crow, died in 1963. She was born in Worcester, Mass., daughter of Michael and Sarah (McGuirk) McGuire, and Mrs. Fitzgibbons lived in Fort Worth, for 44 years.
Mrs. Fitzgibbons held positions in hospital administration before her retirement.
A funeral Mass will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, in the chapel at St. Francis Village, Fort Worth. her cremated remains will be buried in Colmesneil, Texas. NORTH BROOKFIELD -- Lois Ann (David) Desrosiers, 54, of 18 Hammond St., Worcester, formerly of North Brookfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, in Sunbridge Hammond House, Worcester.
She leaves three daughters, Jo Ann Garringer of Indiana, Holly Pasierb of Alabama and Darlene Desrosiers of Warren; her mother, Gloria (Beauregard) David of North Brookfield; two brothers, Alfred P. David of North Brookfield and Stephen A. David of Framingham; several grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. A brother, Kenneth M. David, died before her. She was born in Haverhill, daughter of Alfred A. David, and was raised in North Brookfield. She was educated in North Brookfield public schools.
The private funeral service will be held at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., is directing arrangements.

WEBSTER -- Adam Stone, 14, of 3 Oakwood Drive, a student at Bartlett High School, who was active with local youth sports, died Tuesday, April 10, at home after a two-year battle with Ewings Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer.
He leaves his mother, Elaine (Young) Stone of Webster; his father and stepmother, Timothy and Theresa Stone of Webster; a brother, Kevin Stone of Webster; a sister, Lindsay Stone of Webster; a stepbrother, Robert DeVito of Webster; a stepsister, Katrina DeVito of Webster; his paternal grandfather, Raymond R. Stone of Hartland, Vt.; his maternal grandfather, Willard Young of Hudson, N.H.; his paternal great-grandmother, Merle Stone of Wilder, Vt.; and his maternal great-grandmother, Lillian Auchterlonie of Hudson, N.H. He was born in Worcester and attended Webster public schools.
He was a member of St. Louis Church. He was also a member of Webster Youth Soccer, Webster Little League, and South County Pop Warner Football. He enjoyed baseball and amusement parks.
The funeral will be held Friday, April 13, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Dr. Sarah L. Stone, 44

NATICK -- Dr. Sarah L. Stone, 44, of Natick, died Monday, Feb. 5, at home.
She leaves her husband, Dr. David F. Giansiracusa; a son; a sister; three stepchildren, Meaghan, Colleen, and Michael Giansiracusa, all of Northboro. She graduated from Michigan Tech in 1978, and the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1982. She did her residency at the Oregon Health Science Center and the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.
Mrs. Stone was on the faculty on at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester since 1986, and was a national leader in medical education. The university is creating an endowed professorship in her memory.
She was an advocate for children's issues.
