Margaret M. Grady

WORCESTER -- Margaret M. Grady, formerly of 10 Fenwick St., a retired telephone company worker, died Monday, April 9, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Her sister, Alice T. Grady, died in 1996. She leaves several cousins in Ireland and England. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas F. and Margaret H. (O'Toole) Grady, and graduated from Saint Anne's Academy in Marlboro.
Miss Grady worked for the New England Telephone Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 11, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. A calling hour is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.

WEBSTER -- Victoria (Gwozdz) McLaughlin, 83, of 29 Morris St., formerly of Hingham, died Tuesday, June 5, in Oakwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Her husband of 42 years, Edward A. McLaughlin, died in 1992. She leaves two sisters, Bertha O'Connell and Theresa A. Gwozdz, both of Webster. An infant daughter, Carol McLaughlin, a brother, Felix Gwozdz, and a sister, Agnes Morgan, predeceased her. She was born in Killingly, Conn., daughter of Peter and Katherine (Krawiec) Gwozdz. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1935 and from Wilfred Academy School of Beauticians, Boston.
Mrs. McLaughlin was a hairdresser in several Boston beauty shops. She was a member of St. Joseph Basilica and the Hingham Senior Citizens Stroke Club.
The funeral will be held Friday, June 8, from Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour is 11 a.m. to noon Friday, June 8, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph School Fund, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.

FITCHBURG -- Rita F. Morin, 81, of 161 Spruce St., Leominster, a former housekeeper and caretaker, died Tuesday, July 31, in The Highlands Long Term Care Center after an illness.
She leaves a stepsister, Gloria Moody of Leominster; nephews and nieces. A brother, Paul Morin of Westminster, and two sisters, Claire Cloutier of Leominster and Gladys Stebbins of Fitchburg, predeceased her. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Lewis and Rose (Charon) Morin.
She was a housekeeper for more than 10 years of St. Cecilia's Rectory, Leominster, where she was a member. She was also a caretaker for a monsignor of the church.
A funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, from M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Leominster. A calling hour is 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the funeral home. WESTBORO -- Florence L. Buxton, 96, of 20D Mayberry Drive, a retired bookkeeper, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, in Westboro Health Care Center, after an illness.
Her husband was the late Edward Buxton. She leaves nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Two sisters, Marcia Wood and Margaret Ayers, predeceased her. She was born in Lowell, Vt., daughter of Alpheus M. and Margaret (Holden) Harding. She was educated in Worcester schools. She lived in Shrewsbury until moving to Westboro in 1978.
Mrs. Buxton was a bookkeeper for Buxton Express, a family-owned trucking company, before retiring many years ago. She enjoyed handicrafts.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in Rand-Harper-Pickering Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. -- John M. Cahill, 70, of Safety Harbor, formerly of West Boylston, Mass., died Saturday, April 7, at home.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Nancy E. Cahill; two sons, John M. Cahill Jr. of Auburn Hills, Mich. and Michael S. Cahill of Auburn, Ala.; a daughter, Colleen P. Lastowski of Clearwater; a brother, Paul J. Cahill of Yarmouthport, Mass.; a sister, Ann F. King of Rockville, Md.; a great-grandson. He was born in Worcester, Mass., and moved to Safety Harbor from West Boylston in 1990. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Cahill was a sales manager.
He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, and was a past member of Knights of Columbus Council in West Springfield, Mass. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1030 in Clearwater.
A memorial service will be held later in the week.
Ann E. Howard, 89

WESTMINSTER -- Ann E. (Dobie) Howard, 89, formerly of Westminster, an accomplished historian, died Monday, Feb. 28, in Mary Lyon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hampden.
Her husband of 59 years, J. Philip Howard, died in 1992. She leaves three sons, John A. Howard of Westminster, Geoffrey M. Howard of Monson, and Hugh G. Howard of Red Rock, N.Y.; a brother, John R. Dobie of West Springfield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Laura Ann (Pond) Dobie, and graduated from Gardner High School. She graduated from Worcester State College.
Mrs. Howard briefly taught junior high school in New London, Conn. She served several terms on the Westminster School Committee, and co-founded and operated a kindergarten in Westminster. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, and was a member of the Visiting Nurse Association, the Salvation Army, the Audubon Society, the Westminster Woman's Club, and the Westminster Historical Society.
She enjoyed traveling and was a historian. She conducted research about artists and architecture in Central Massachusetts, and was principal author of Homestead Heritage, an examination of historic buildings in Westminster. She also researched the life and work of Deacon Robert Peckham, an itinerant painter and abolitionist who lived in Westminster before the Civil War. Her work has been cited in academic publications.
There will be no funeral service, but a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Historical Society, Westminster, MA 01473 or Forbush Memorial Library, Westminster, MA 01473. Sampson Funeral Home, Springfield, is directing arrangements.

NEEDHAM -- Loretta H. (Heagney) Kelly, 85, of Needham, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, Feb. 5, in Newton-Wellesley Alzheimer Center, Wellesley.
She leaves her husband, Thomas H. Kelly; a daughter, Hope Kelly of Belmont; two grandchildren. She was born in Worcester.
Mrs. Kelly was a former secretary for Ropes and Grey law firm of Boston, and was a former manager 15 years at the Opportunity Shop of Needham.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church and volunteered for the Charles River Association for Retarded Citizens.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, from George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Interment will be in Needham Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140 or a charity.

HUBBARDSTON -- Paul L. Anderson, 60, of 83 Lombard Road, a retired carpenter, died Saturday, April 7, after being stricken ill while hiking Thumb Mountain, Hancock, N.H.
He leaves his wife of 37 years, Dorothy J. (LaVallee) Anderson; a son, Mark P. Anderson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Laurie J. Anderson of Worcester; a brother, David L. Anderson of Westford; a sister, Barbara L. McCarthy of Auburn; a granddaughter; and nephews and nieces. Born in Holden, son of Paul and Doris E. (Swasey) Anderson, he graduated from Wachusett Regional High School, Holden, in 1959. He lived 31 years in Hubbardston.
Mr. Anderson was a master carpenter and worked 35 years for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local Union 107, Worcester, before retiring recently.
He was an avid bicyclist and a member of the Seven Hills Wheelmen. He enjoyed classic cars and hiking.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be at a later date in Grove Cemetery, Holden. MILLBURY -- Helen Arnold, 89, of Rhodes Street, died Friday, April 6, in the Millbury Convalescent Center.
Ms. Arnold leaves no immediate family. She was born September 29, 1911, and lived in Holbrook before moving one year ago to Millbury.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster St., Worcester. There are no calling hours. Buma Funeral Home, 101 North Main St., Uxbridge, is directing arrangements.
Betty M. Barr, 78

HYANNIS -- Betty M. (Lane) Barr, 78, of 32 Hawes Ave., formerly of Worcester, died Monday, April 9, in Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center, South Dennis, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She leaves her husband of 54 years, Forrest Barr; three sons, Jeffrey L. Barr of Worcester, Daniel S. Barr of Brewster, and Andrew C. Barr of Oakham; a brother, Kenneth C. Lane of Hudsonville, Mich.; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Hastings, Mich., daughter of Forrest B. and Lucinda (Campbell) Lane. She served as a WAVE in the Navy. She lived many years in Worcester.
Mrs. Barr worked many years at Sharfman's Jewelers in Worcester, retiring as a credit manager.
She enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was active with the Tatnuck Congregational Church in Worcester. She was a member of Federated Church of Hyannis.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Doane, Beale, and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. A calling hour will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the funeral home.
