PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Alice (Demetrion) Pappas, 78, of 438 Grand Ave., formerly of Webster, Mass., died yesterday in Memorial Hospital.
Her husband, William A. Pappas, died in 1980. She leaves a brother, Charles A. Demetrion of Cambridge, Mass.; a sister, Ann Panteleakos of Danielson, Conn.; nephews and nieces; and a close friend, Richard Goff of Pawtucket, with whom she lived. Born in Webster, daughter of Alexander and Despina (Karagianis) Demetrion, she lived in Webster until 1951. She lived 35 years in Seekonk before moving to Pawtucket a year ago.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, with a service at 10 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Lake Parkway, Webster. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours are 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

OXFORD -- Algot W. “Andy” Anderson Jr., 78, of Depot Road, died Friday, Jan. 19, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a short illness. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., is directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

WORCESTER -- Lydia O. Peterson, 90, of Woodward Retirement Home, Keene, N.H., formerly of 732 Burncoat St., a retired bookkeeper, died yesterday in Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, after an illness.
She leaves many nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. Born in Thompson, daughter of Carl G. and Julia O. (Johnson) Peterson, she lived many years in Worcester before moving to Dublin, N.H., in 1990. She later moved to Keene. She graduated from Becker Business College, now Becker College.
Miss Peterson was a bookkeeper 16 years at George F. Blake Inc. and at Harvard Nursing Home, retiring in 1972.
She was a member of Pleasant Street Baptist Church and Worcester Lodge of Rebekahs.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in West Thompson Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pleasant Street Baptist Church, Memorial Fund, 6 Ashland St., Worcester 01609. Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., is directing arrangements.

LEOMINSTER -- Roxanne M. (Tata) Porter, 42, of 1 Baker St., an office manager for many years, died yesterday in Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
She leaves her husband of 15 years, John Porter Sr.; two stepsons, John Porter Jr. of Leominster and Jeffrey Guenett of Spokane, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Julie Cavadini of Troy, N.H.; her father, Peter Tata Sr.; two brothers, Peter Tata Jr. and Mark Tata, all of Leominster; four sisters, Sharron Rheault of North Brookfield, Claudia Tata of San Francisco, Marissa Freda of Leominster and Brenda Sciabarrasi of Lunenburg; nephews and nieces. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Irene (Pothier) Tata, and lived several years in Seminole, Fla., before returning here. She graduated from Leominster High School.
She was the office manager at Porter Contractors, her husband's business, for many years. She was a member of St. Anna's Church.
The funeral will be held Wednesday from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

LEICESTER -- Edmund F. Powers, 82, of 6 Massasoit Drive, died yesterday at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Antoinette F. (Bouffard) Powers; two daughters, Shirley A. LaBombard of the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, and Carol F. O'Leary of Leicester; a brother, Thomas Powers of Leicester; a sister, Josephine Burke of Worcester; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Anastasia (Powers) Powers Sr. and lived in Worcester before moving here 40 years ago.
Mr. Powers was a salesman at Cunningham Coffee in Worcester for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He also worked at Interstate Gasket for five years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Council, in Worcester.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Morrison Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 759 Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

TOPSHAM, Maine -- Carl J. Peterson, 86, of Topsham, formerly of Gardner, Mass., died Sunday, Aug. 6, in Mere Point Nursing Home.
He leaves his wife, Ruth (Bailey) Peterson; two sons, Carl E. Peterson of Hingham, Mass., and Lars A. Peterson of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Carolyn R. Zalewski of Baldwinville, Mass., and Jane P. Moody of Garrettsville, Ohio; a sister, Gladys Oneto of Southbury, Conn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. His first wife, Maxine Fuller, and his second wife, Ruth (Hemmings) Brown, died before him. He was born in Gardner, son of Carl and Mere Peterson. He graduated from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass., and received his master's degree from Boston University.
Mr. Peterson taught in the Belchertown, Mass., school system for many years, and was later a principal and superintendent of schools. He later taught at Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass., and was a treasurer, tax collector, and town clerk in Belchertown.
He was a volunteer firefighter in Belchertown for more than 55 years. He was a member of Belchertown Congregational Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a trustee of Clapp Memorial Library.
The funeral service will be private. There are no calling hours. Direct Cremation of Maine in Belfast, Maine, is directing arrangements.
Oscar F. Prince, 86

DOUGLAS -- Oscar F. Prince, 86, of 13 West St., a retired dress tender, died Friday in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Julia T. (Bloniasz) Prince; two sons, Roger F. Prince of Franklin and David A. Prince of Richmond, Vt.; a sister, Loretta Ludvigson of Northbridge; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Douglas, son of Frank and Dorilla (Deslauriers) Prince, and lived here all his life.
Mr. Prince was a dress tender at Hayward Schuster Woolen Co. for 50 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Denis Church. He enjoyed woodworking, photography and astronomy.
The funeral will be held Tuesday from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug Road. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. MARLBORO -- Francis E. Queenan, 55, of 183 East Main St., a longtime self-employed painter, died Friday in UMass Health System-Marlboro Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his mother, Martha B. (Baker) Queenan of Marlboro; five sisters, Shirley J. Jenkins and Mary D. MacMillan, both in Florida, Brenda L. Queenan of Marlboro, Beverly G. Madden of Northboro and Michaelene S. Queenan of Hudson; nephews and nieces. He was born in Marlboro, son of Eugene Queenan. He graduated from a local high school.
Mr. Queenan was a self-employed painter for many years in this area.
After cremation, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours. John P. Rowe Funeral Home, 57 Main St., is directing arrangements.
Joseph J. Ratty, 94

NORTHBRIDGE -- Joseph J. Ratty, 94, of 42 Beane's Lane, a retired machine operator, died Friday in St. Camillus Nursing Home, Whitinsville section, after a short illness.
His wife of 45 years, Delia R. (Lemoux) Ratty, died in 1969. He leaves a son, Earl A. Ratty of Uxbridge; a granddaughter, Karen M. Richard of North Uxbridge; two great-grandsons; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. He was born in the Grosvenordale section of Thompson, Conn., son of Louis and Josephine (Phaneuf) Ratty, and lived here most of his life.
Mr. Ratty was a machine operator at Whitin Machine Works, Whitinsville, for 44 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish. He was a member of Whitinsville Local of the United Steelworkers of America.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Church, 39 Church Ave. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville. There are no calling hours. William J. Rehler, 82

FITCHBURG -- William J. Rehler, 82, of 28 Merriam Parkway, a longtime papermaker and long active with the Boy Scouts, died yesterday in Leominster Hospital after an illness.
His wife of 48 years, Helen D. Rehler, died in 1993. He leaves two sons, Ken C. and Robert R. Rehler, both of Fitchburg; a brother, Richard Riehler of Olean, N.Y.; two sisters, Patricia Bastarache of Fitchburg and Elizabeth Lindsey of Olean, N.Y.; nephews and nieces. He was born in Olean, son of Joseph and Mary (Ready) Rehler, and lived here since 1939. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He received a Bronze Star and a Distiguished Unit Badge.
Mr. Rehler was a papermaker at Crocker-Burbank Co. and Weyerhaeuser Co. for many years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Bernard's Church and Fitchburg Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the British-American Club. He was active for many years with the Boy Scouts of America.
The funeral will be held Tuesday from Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity, and may be left at the funeral home.
