Albert Balchunas, 78

ATHOL -- Albert Balchunas, 78, of 18 Pitman Road, a milling-machine operator for many years, died yesterday in Charlene Manor Nursing Home, Greenfield, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Louise W. (White) Balchunas; a brother, Kaistutis T. Balchunas of Ayer; a sister, Albina B. Graves of Athol; nephews and nieces. He was born in Athol, son of August and Pauline (Nevard) Balchunas.
He was a milling-machine operator at Litton Industries Inc., formerly Union Twist Drill Co., where he worked for more than 40 years. He retired in 1981. He was an enthusiastic reader and traveler.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Silver Lake Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity.

Robert R. LeBlanc, 59
FITCHBURG -- Robert R. LeBlanc, 59, of 69 High St., formerly of San Diego and the Back Bay section of Boston, who owned Coastal Pool Co., San Diego, died Friday, Jan. 26, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He leaves two brothers, William P. LeBlanc of Baldwinville and Richard LeBlanc of South Ashburnham. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Albenie J. and Lorraine (Ouellette) LeBlanc, grew up in West Fitchburg and lived in San Diego for 30 years. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1959. He served in the Navy from 1963 to 1967, where he was assigned to the Marines as a corpsman.
Mr. LeBlanc owned and operated Coastal Pool Co., San Diego, before retiring in 2000 due to illness. He previously operated a floral shop in Boston. He was a member of the Winchendon American Legion Post.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 29, at St. Joseph Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Homestead, 69 High St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
Eva A. Attella

WORCESTER -- Eva A. (Horan) Attella of 24A Westboro St., formerly 20 Dell Ave., died Sunday in Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Her husband, Michael D. Attella, died in 1974. She leaves two sons, Arthur Attella of Yarmouth and Leo Attella of West Boylston; a daughter, Esma Madler of Shrewsbury; nephews and nieces. Born in Worcester, daughter of Charles and Anna (George) Horan, she lived many years in Worcester, lived 20 years in Coral Gables, Fla., and returned to Worcester in 1975.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and its Women's Guild.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., with a service at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 72 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. A trisagion service will be held there at 7:30 tonight. Beatrice F. Allega, 81

UXBRIDGE -- Beatrice F. (Hamelin) Allega, 81, of 51 West Hartford Ave., died Saturday at home after an illness.
Her husband, John J. Allega, died in October. She leaves a son, John E. Allega of Uxbridge; two daughters, Patricia J. Dirienzo and June A. Bergeron, both of Uxbridge; two brothers, Leo A. and Roland J. Hamelin, both of Uxbridge; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was born in North Brookfield, daughter of Wilfred J. and Celina (Grenon) Hamelin, and lived here most of her life.
Mrs. Allega was a waitress for many years at N.V. Cafe in North Uxbridge.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Tancrell Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. BOYLSTON -- Ann G. (Swenson) Hodgkins, 70, of 7 Upland Road, a housewife, died yesterday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a long illness.
She leaves her husband of 50 years, Walter E. Hodgkins; a brother, Henry Swenson of Worcester; a sister, Karen J. Miner of Grafton; nephews and nieces. A son, Daniel W. Hodgkins of Worcester, died in 1969. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Henry and Ann (Moore) Swenson, and lived here 27 years.
Mrs. Hodgkins was a housewife. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church, Worcester. She was a member of Boylston Grange.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Nordgren Carrigan Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 236 Lincoln St. Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gerald E. Houle Jr., 45

ATHOL -- Gerald E. Houle Jr., 45, of 26 Lee St., Athol, died Saturday at Athol Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife, Betty E. (Sargent) Houle; a son, Gregory Lopes, and a daughter, Elyssa Lopes. He was born in Holyoke, son of Gerald and Julie (Moran) Houle. He graduated from Holyoke High School and earned an associate's degree from Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner.
Mr. Houle was a machinist at the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange. He was treasurer of the Central New England Brittany Club for four years, and enjoyed training and competing with Brittany spaniels.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham 01701.
Thomas P. Hurley, 89

HUDSON -- Thomas P. Hurley, 89, of 40 St. James Circle and formerly of Marlboro and Berlin, died Saturday at Health Alliance-Leominster Hospital after being stricken ill.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Ruth C. (Cook); two daughters, Deborah R. Hawkins of Hudson and Pam A. Hurley of Hudson; and two grandchildren. He was born in Marlboro, son of Thomas and Irene (Callahan) Hurley, and moved to Hudson in 1990 from Berlin. He attended St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers and The Huntington School in Boston.
Mr. Hurley owned and operated Thomas F. Hurley Construction and Lumber Co. in Marlboro for more than 50 years, retiring in 1977. At one time, he also owned the Wamesit Farm on Stow Road in Marlboro, where race horses were stabled and raised. He was a member of St. Joseph the Good Provider Church in Berlin and the Knights of Columbus. He was a founder of the Marlboro Recreation Department, a former past president of the Marlboro Country Club and a member of the Audobon Society. An avid walker, he and his dog, Dusty, went almost daily to Wachusett Mountain in Princeton.
A private funeral Mass will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church in Berlin. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. John P. Rowe Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Marlboro, is directing arrangements.
Joan R. Foley, 58

LEICESTER -- Joan R. (Belanger) Foley, 58, of 67 Burncoat St., died Thursday, April 26, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester, after a battle with cancer.
She leaves two sons, Joseph R. Belanger of Leicester and Derek J. Foley of Worcester; two daughters, Jodi R. Schavone of Apex, N.C., and Dawn J. Foley of Spencer; two brothers, A. Philip Belanger of Southbridge and Theodore J. Belanger of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Julie L. Niewiera of Sutton and Janet D. Baker of Leicester; her longtime companion, Richard H. Cogley of Worcester; three stepchildren; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Antoine and Rhea L. (Bonin) Belanger, and lived in Shrewsbury, Marlboro and Northboro before moving here in 1989. She graduated as an honor student from Shrewsbury High School and graduated from Rob Roy Hair Academy, Worcester.
Ms. Foley was transportation coordinator 10 years for the Greater Marlboro Programs. She was a longtime hairdresser from her home and at area salons; was an accomplished seamstress; and owned and operated “Lady Hawke Trading Post” from her home. She bred golden retrievers for 12 years; was a 4-H leader in Marlboro; and was a coordinator for the Special Olympics for South Middlesex County. She enjoyed black powder and primitive firearms meetings throughout New England.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 28, from Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St. Burial will be in St. Philip's Cemetery, North Grafton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. HUDSON -- Nellie A. (Jason) Kelly, 81, of Hudson, a retired clerk, died Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester.
Her husband, William F. Kelly, died in 1991. She leaves four daughters, Maureen Hubert and Patricia Higgins, both of Hudson, Karen Michienzi of Westford and Betty Ann Kelly of the Newtonville section of Newton; a sister, Helen Boczanowski of Holbrook; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Hudson, daughter of Martin and Amelia (Wasilewska) Jason. She graduated from St. Michael Academy in 1937.
Mrs. Kelly was a clerk at Digital Co., Maynard and Hudson, retiring in 1985. She was a former cook and housekeeper at St. Michael Rectory.
She was a member of St. Michael Church, and a member and past president and secretary of the Hudson Eagles Auxiliary.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 29, from Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. WORCESTER -- William P. Johnson, 62, of 660 Main St., a retired laborer, died Wednesday, April 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.
He leaves a sister, Elizabeth A. “Betty Ann” Alfreds of Worcester; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Charles J. and Eleanor J. (Coffee) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a laborer for various Worcester companies, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed sports.
The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
