WORCESTER -- Stephen V. Chiras, 87, of 10 Hemlock St., a shipper for 23 years, died Saturday night in St. Vincent Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 25 years, Julia A. (Kazlauskas) Chiras; a son, William Chiras of Worcester; a stepson, Robert Page of Wichita Falls, Texas, a stepdaughter, Dorothy Conte of Redding, Calif.; three sisters, Monica Planchunas and Anna Miller, both of Worcester, and Julia Galien of Leicester; nephews and nieces. He was born in Linwood, son of Stephen V. Chiras Sr. and Monica (Jesulavich) Chiras, and lived here for most of his life.
Mr. Chiras was a shipper at Owens-Illinois Inc. for 23 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, its Social Club, the Leicester Senior Citizens Club and the Golden Agers at Holy Name of Jesus Church.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Dirsa-Kazlauskas Funeral Home, 51 Providence St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. WORCESTER -- Anthony R. Cataldo Sr., 79, of 73 Gage St., died yesterday in Veteran's Administration Hospital, West Roxbury, after an illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
James E. Casey Sr., 81

MARLBORO -- James E. Casey Sr., 81, of 270 Broadmeadow Road, World War II Army veteran, died yesterday in Riverbend Convalescent Center, Natick.
His wife, Mary (Palma) Casey, died in May. He leaves a son, James E. Casey Jr. of Oxford, Miss.; three daughters, Jean Parrella of Franklin, Patricia Whalen of Millis and Eileen Trombetta of Marlboro; four sisters, Helen Perkins of Westfield, Evelyn Branchard of Woonsocket, R.I., Genevieve Perry of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Dorothy Charest of Northboro; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was born in Milford, son of James J. and Caroline (McEachren) Casey, and lived here many years. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Milford, in 1934. He served in the Army during World War II in Africa and Italy.
Mr. Casey worked for Draper Corp. in Milford and later for Medfield State Hospital before retiring in 1970. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 82.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann's Church, 466 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity.
David J. LeBlanc, 89

LEOMINSTER -- David J. LeBlanc, 89, of 45 Hoover St., a retired machinist, died yesterday in Fairlawn Nursing Home.
His wife, Jeanne M. (Blais) LeBlanc, died in 1992. He leaves six sons, Francis J. LeBlanc of North Canton, Ohio, Andre J., David L., Robert E., Rene A. and Ronald G. LeBlanc, all of Leominster; seven daughters, Louise Chartrand of Lakeland, Fla., Rita MacMillan of Fitchburg, Jeannette Metivier of Orange, Rachel Sargent, Claire Ermini, Mary Varville and Bertha Barrett, all of Leominster; three brothers, Emile, Raymond and William LeBlanc, all of Fitchburg; 40 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Donat and Alice (LeBlanc) LeBlanc, and lived here more than 50 years.
Mr. LeBlanc was a machinist at Fitchburg Yarn Co. for more than 42 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fitchburg. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
The funeral will be held Saturday from Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Sheridan St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Cora A. Burns, 88

SHREWSBURY -- Cora A. (Roberge) Burns, 88, of 2 Ireta Road, formerly of Gardner and Cumberland, R.I., died Friday in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.
Her husband of 65 years, William E. Burns, died in 1996. She leaves a daughter, Joan M. Carelli of Shrewsbury, with whom she lived; two grandsons, James M. Carelli of Shrewsbury and William E. Carelli of West Yarmouth; a granddaughter, Cheryl A. Carelli of Orchard Park, N.Y.; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of George and Cora (Gervais) Roberge, and lived many years in Gardner and Cumberland, R.I., before moving to Shrewsbury in 1989. She graduated from Fitchburg High School.
Mrs. Burns was a member of St. Anne's Church and a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gardner. She was a former member and president of Ovila Case Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Gardner, and a former member and vice president of the Gardner Emblem Club. She was a former member and secretary of the Blackstone Lions Club.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner. WOODSTOCK -- Mary A. (Boyce) Burke, 71, of 240 Old Turnpike Road, formerly of Putnam, a community volunteer for many years, died Saturday in University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.
She leaves her husband of 48 years, Richard F. Burke; six sons, Thomas F. Burke of Issaquah, Wash., John M. Burke of Pomfret, Richard F. Burke Jr. of Mystic, Conn., Padraic D. Burke of Old Saybrook, Conn.; Keven S. Burke of Thompson and Brian T. Burke of Worcester; five daughters, Diane M. Burke of Auburn, Kathleen Burke Lewis of Thompson, Maura E. Burke of Dayville, Shelagh A.C. Byrne of Asheville, N.C., and Anne G. Burke Pasay of Putnam; a brother, James B.F. Boyce of Stowe, Vt.; three sisters, Eileen Boyce and Kathleen Pendergast, both of Clinton, and Francis M. Gwyther of Auburn; 19 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Frederick and Ellen (Harding) Boyce, and was raised in Auburn. She lived many years in Putnam. She also lived in Milan, Italy; Hendersonville, N.C., and Norwalk, Conn. She graduated from Auburn High School.
She once worked at Worcester County National Bank in Worcester and Baldwin Chain Belt Co. in Auburn.
Mrs. Burke worked for many years to help families that were recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. She also served for several years on the committee for the Cathy Deary Memorial in Putnam.
She was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church in Quinebaug and a former communicant of St. Mary of the Visitation Church in Putnam. She was an enthusiastic gardener and golfer, and a member of Quinnatisset Country Club in Thompson.
The funeral will be held Wednesday from Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Arthur J. Cormier, 78

FITCHBURG -- Arthur J. Cormier, 78, of 250 Main St., Clinton, formerly of 59 Beech St., Fitchburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Clinton Hospital after an illness.
He leaves six sisters, Leona and Marguerite Cormier, Emma St. Jean and Emiline Fontaine, all of Fitchburg, Bernice Gaudet of Leominster and Louise Richard of Gardner; nephews and nieces. Three sisters and three brothers predeceased him. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Tilman and Marie (Legere) Cormier, and lived many years in Fitchburg before moving to Clinton.
Mr. Cormier was a member of St. Joseph Church.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, from Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 46 Woodland St. Burial will be private in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour is 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the funeral home.

WEBSTER -- William C. Burgess, 73, of 96 Slater St., died Saturday in Christopher House in Worcester after a long illness.
He leaves a sister, Mildred E. Beresik of Webster, and nieces and nephews. He was born in Whitinsville, son of Peter F. and Ellen (Gustafson) Burgess, and lived in Webster most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.
Mr. Burgess worked more than 30 years at Maanexit Spinning Co.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Robert J. Miller Funeral Home, 366 School St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in Lakeside-Gore Cemetery. NORTHBORO -- Eleanor (McClintock) Burgwinkle, 77, of 56 Churchill Crest, Pittsfield, formerly of Northboro, a skilled quilt maker, died Friday in Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield, after an illness.
Her husband of 36 years, Martin J. Burgwinkle, died in 1983. She leaves two sons, Martin J. Burgwinkle of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Joseph Burgwinkle of Worcester; three daughters, Jane B. Sullivan of Pittsfield, MaryLou Arslen of Barre and Catherine Wardwell of Deerfield; and 10 grandchildren. She was born in Northboro, daughter of Alexander and Catherine (Carbrey) McClintock, and lived here before moving to Pittsfield in 1987. She graduated from Northboro High School.
Mrs. Burgwinkle was a skilled quilt maker.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 191 Elm St., Pittsfield.
