SOUTHBRIDGE -- Frances I. “Peggy” (McNally) Higgins, 76, of 150 Main St., died yesterday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, John H. Higgins Sr.; two sons, John H. Higgins Jr. of Southbridge and Daniel E. Higgins of North Brookfield; four daughters, Catherine Bolduc, Robin A. Giguere, and Kellie J. Petrelli, all of Southbridge, and Margaret “Peggy” R. Belanger, of Sturbridge; three brothers, George McNally of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., John McNally of Bangor, Maine, and Milo McNally Jr. of Taunton; two sisters, Rosie McLaughlin of Presque Isle, Maine, and JoAnne McLaughlin of Fort Howard, Maine; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Born in East Millinocket, Maine, daughter of Milo and Ida (Boss) McNally, she lived many years in Southbridge.
Mrs. Higgins worked in the lens division of American Optical Co. and also worked at Old Sturbridge Village. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and camping, and spending time with her family.
The funeral will be held Thursday from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 40 Speen St., Box 1221, Framingham 01701, or to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701.
Richard A. Rahaim, 62

GARDNER -- Richard A. Rahaim, 62, of 6 Donna Ave., died Monday, Oct. 16, at home after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 41 years, Jeannine L. (Franck) Rahaim; a son, Don M. Rahaim of Plainfield, Conn.; three daughters, Barbara J. Wahl and Janet A. Blake, both of Gardner, and Jacquline A. Fletcher of Baldwinville; a brother, Albert T. Rahaim of Northboro; 11 grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Albert T. and Delia A. (Dadah) Rahaim, and lived in Gardner most of his life. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1955, and was an Army veteran.
Mr. Rahaim was a quality assurance engineer for 18 years at Data General in Westboro. He was later a job coach for physically and developmentally disabled employees at Gamma Industries and Seven Hills in Worcester. He retired last year, and had been working part time at ATR Sales in Northboro.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and he attended Holy Spirit Church. He was a member of the former Lebanese Club and the Gardner Conservation Committee. He enjoyed fishing and walking.
The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, from Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St., with a Mass at 9:30 at Holy Spirit Church, Lovewell Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Brian R. LeBlanc, 37

SHIRLEY -- Brian R. LeBlanc, 37, of 146 Squanacook Road, a union carpenter, died yesterday at Deaconess-Nashoba Hospital, Ayer, after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 11 years, Jeannine (Litterine) LeBlanc; his mother, Pearl (Barnes) LeBlanc of Derry, N.H.; four stepsons, Troy and Todd Terhune, both of Nashua, N.H., and Timothy Terhune and Robert Karpowski, both of Shirley; a brother, Gary LeBlanc, and a sister, Deborah Faria, both of Derry; and a grandson. He was born in Lowell, son of Raymond LeBlanc, and moved here 11 years ago.
Mr. LeBlanc, a member of the Carpenter's Union, was a carpenter for Eastern Contractors in Framingham. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Phoenix Street. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 46 Washington St., Ayer. Raymond J. Guinard, 73

FITCHBURG -- Raymond Jean Guinard, 73, of 50 Day St., died yesterday at home after a long illness.
He leaves his wife Gladys Ida (Smith) Guinard; six daughters, Sandra Gilbert of Leominster, Miriam Guinard of North Carolina, Patricia Polh of Fitchburg, Susan Livingston of North Carolina, Joann Guinard of Winchendon, and Tina Tuttle of Hawaii; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was born in Clinton, son of James and Ina (Minton) Guinard, and lived here most of his married life. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Guinard was a steel and railroad worker, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Salvation Army's Legion of Mercy.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the Montachusett Corps Salvation Army, 739 Water St. Burial will be in Eastwood Cemetery, Lancaster. The calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Salvation Army. The Queen Chapel, 658 Main St., Lancaster is directing arrangements.
Robert P. Greengus, 62

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- Robert P. Greengus, 62, of 3344 Weidner Ave., Oceanside, and formerly of Worcester, Mass., died January 7 at home after a five-year struggle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 39 years, Deborah (Karp) Greengus; two sons, Todd A. Greengus of Long Beach, N.Y. and Rick E. Greengus of Island Park, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. He was born, raised and educated in Worcester, son of Thomas and Rose (Hoffman) Greengus. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Greengus owned and operated a television, air conditioner and alarm service business for many years in Queens. Previously, he worked for Friendly Frost Appliance Co. in Milford, Conn. He was a member of the Knights of Pythius.
The funeral service was held Sunday in Gutterman Memorial Chapel, Rockville Center. Burial was in Mt. Golda Cemetery, Huntington. A memorial week was held at his former residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 229 Kent St., Brookline, Mass. 02146.
Mabel L. Goding, 78

WORCESTER -- Mabel L. (Gilbert) Goding, 78, of 718 Main St., died yesterday in Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Her husband, Llewellyn Goding, died in 1970. She leaves two sons, Frederick L. Goding of Oxford and Robert Goding of Worcester; two daughters, Caroline McCarthy of Cherry Valley and Bertha Lavalle of North Oxford; two step-daughters, Marjorie Kowalski of Worcester and Joanne Dunn of Lawrence; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was born in Millbury, daughter of Louis A. Jr. and Hulda S. (Fjellman) Gilbert, and lived here 40 years. She attended Millbury schools.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
Bertha M. Smith, 87

TEMPLETON -- Bertha M. (Clement) Smith, 87, formerly of 22 Wellington Road, a retired nurse, died Saturday, June 10, in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, after an illness.
Her husband, John H.S. Smith, died in 1997. She leaves two sons, Robert W. and Thomas F. Smith, both of Winchendon; a daughter, Norma J. Boudrieau of Gardner; two brothers, Raymond E. and Walter F. Clement, both of Winchendon; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of Fred P. and Ethel M. (Tenney) Clement, and moved to Templeton in 1961.
Mrs. Smith was a nurse for 15 years with Athol Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1963. She was a member of First Congregational Church and collected antiques.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in Fletcher-Hebert Funeral Home, 70 Pleasant St., Winchendon. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon. Frederick Goad, 51

CLINTON -- Frederick Goad, 51, of 110 Washington St., died Saturday in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves a daughter, Betty Jo Goad of Messina, N.Y.; a brother, Edgar Goad of Springfield; two sisters, Brenda Hastings of Leominster and Joann Quinn of Clinton; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Born in Concord, Vt., son of Lynwood and Violet (Whitting) Goad, he lived most of his life in Clinton.
Mr. Goad was a machine operator at Kelly Company Inc.
After cremation, the funeral service and burial will be held at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. Vaughan Garabedian, 80, worked for Postal Service

HOLDEN -- Vaughan Garabedian, 80, of 94 Putnam Road, a retired postal worker, was stricken ill and died yesterday at home.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Margaret M. (MacKenzie) Garabedian; two sons, Wayne V. Garabedian of North Grafton and Robert D. Garabedian of Westchester, Ohio; a brother, Alexander Gary of Leicester; a sister, Mary Grenon of Oxford; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Born in Worcester, son of Nishan and Mary (Minassian) Garabedian, he lived many years in Shrewsbury before moving to Holden in 1967. He graduated from Worcester Boys' Trade High School and attended New England School of Accounting.
A World War II Army veteran, he fought in three major campaigns in Italy and was wounded twice. He received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
Mr. Garabedian was head of Station C in Worcester for the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked 36 years. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Garabedian was a member of First Congregational Church, the American Postal Workers Union and Montacute Lodge of Masons in Worcester. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the National Pistol Association and the Gun Owners Action League. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association; the 181st Infantry Regiment Association; the American League; Sentry Post 445, American Legion; and Worcester Chapter 4, Disabled American Veterans.
A private funeral service will be held in Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. Burial will be in the spring in Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, 1180 Main St., Holden 01520 or the Central Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St., Worcester 01605.
George W. Smith Jr.

INDIALANTIC, Fla. -- George W. Smith Jr., 86, of Indialantic, formerly of Leominster, Mass., a retired business owner and operator, died Wednesday, July 25, in Indialantic.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Ruth (Ricker) Smith; two sons, Richard A. Smith of Lancaster, Mass., and Douglas E. Smith of Indialantic; three sisters, Norma Schofield and Pauline Caisse, both of Leominster, Mass., and Helen DuPont of Putnam, Conn.; a brother, Joseph Smith of Burlingame, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was the son of George W. Smith Sr. and Beatrice (Smith) Smith.
Mr. Smith owned and operated Smith Auto Service, Leominster, before retiring. He was a member of Wilder Lodge of Masons, Leominster, and Pilgrim Congregational Church.
The memorial service will be held in Melbourne Beach. There are no local calling hours.
