Serpoohi Jafferian, 87, formerly of Belmont
Serpoohi "Christine" (Menefshelian) Jafferian, 87, of St. Augustine Shores, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at the Mariner Health Care in St. Augustine.
She was the wife of the late Andrew Nishan Jafferian.
Born in Smyrna, Turkey, she was the daughter of the late Dickran and Satenig (Makasdarian) Menefshelian and emigrated to the United States in 1931.
She was a longtime resident of Belmont before moving to Florida.
An author and singer she wrote the book, "Winds of Destiny: An Immigrant Girl’s Odyssey."
Mrs. Jafferian is survived by two daughters, Doris Jafferian, Ph.D. and her husband Donald Lunny of Carlisle and Satenig Andrea Marshand and her husband John of St. Augustine Shores; a son, Nishan Jafferian and his wife Joan Neary of Kingston; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 24 at St. James Armenian Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Arsen Barsamian officiating.
Interment was in Belmont Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Giragosian Funeral Home, Watertown.
Dorothy Crosby, 96, formerly of Belmont
BELMONT — Dorothy (Barber) Crosby, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
She was the wife of the late Carl T. Crosby.
Born in North Adams, Mrs. Crosby attended the Master’s Boarding School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and Madiera School in Washington, D.C.
She was a graduate of Smith College, Class of 1928.
Mrs. Crosby was a lifelong resident of Belmont before becoming one of the original settlers of Brookhaven at Lexington.
Mrs. Crosby was a member of the Florence Crittenden League, Belmont Woman’s Club, and a volunteer at McLean Hospital for more than 20 years.
She is survived by a son, C. Thomas Crosby and his wife Barb P. of Madbury, N.H.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late Margaret Merrick, and the mother-in-law of the late Harold Merrick.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, in the Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St., Belmont.
Interment was in Pinehill Cemetery, Dover, N.H.

Charles Coughlan, 83, of Belmont
Charles H. Coughlan, 83, of Belmont, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002.
He was the husband of Alice R. (Norton) Coughlan.
He was born in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High & Latin School in 1935.
He was employed as a traffic engineer for New England Telephone for 48 years and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Coughlan was a commander and financial officer for the American Legion, a member of the Retired Men’s Club of Belmont, the Pioneers of America and the Alex Graham Bell Post.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Charles R. Coughlan of Wells, Maine; a daughter, Barbara Uribe of Toronto, Canada and Mexico City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor McCurdy and Florence Dorman; two brothers, William and Joseph Coughlan and a close friend, Dianne Kelley of Belmont.
He was also brother of the late John B. Coughlan.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, Jan. 26 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Belmont. Interment was private.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Belmont.
Mary E. Cotter, 77, of Belmont
BELMONT — Mary E. Cotter, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002.
She was born in Boston, and had been a resident of Belmont for over 60 years.
Miss Cotter was employed as a school teacher in the Cambridge school system.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Sodality.
She is survived by two brothers, Arthur H. Cotter and Thomas E. Cotter Jr., both of Belmont.
A funeral was held Jan. 28, from the Brown & Sons Funeral Home in Belmont, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church.
Interment was private.

William S. Stevens, 72, of Belmont
William S. Stevens, 72, of Belmont, died Sunday, March 10, 2002.
He was the husband of Laurette (Scontsas) Stevens.
Born in Boston, he was a longtime Belmont resident.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was employed as a manager for the telephone company.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stevens is survived by two sons, Anthony Stevens and his wife Kathleen of Braintree, and Mark Stevens and his wife Janet of Londonderry, N.H.; two daughters, Diane Stevens of Bedford, and Michelle Helms and her husband Jeffery, also of Bedford; six grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Stevens of Templeton.
The funeral was held from the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont on Saturday, March 16, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church.
Interment followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
