William F. Kelly

YARMOUTHPORT - William F. Kelly, 68, formerly of Belmont, died suddenly while playing tennis, Oct. 3, 2000. He was the husband of Mary (Blackham) Kelly. He was born and raised in Belmont. Mr. Kelly was a graduate of Matignon High School, Class of 1950, and Boston College, Class of 1954. He was employed as a life insurance agent and financial planner with Mass. Mutual (formerly Conn. Mutual Life Insurance Co.) for 44 years. Mr. Kelly was a member of the Boston College Club of Cape Cod and an active member of the Kings Way. He enjoyed playing tennis and skiing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William F. Kelly III of Arlington, and Joseph B. Kelly of Westwood; a daughter, Kathleen "Katie" T. Cartwright of Hudson, Ohio; a brother, Robert Kelly of Decatur, Ga.; four sisters, Julie Halligan of West Hartford, Conn., Evelyn Withee of Bedford, N.H., Mary Beth Federico of Bedford, N.H., and Marie Stone of Hartford, Conn.; and eight grandchildren. A funeral was held Oct. 7, from the Brown & Sons Funeral Home in Belmont, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church. Interment was in Belmont Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions in Mr. Kelly's memory may be made to the Matignon High School Chapel Fund, One Matignon Road, Cambridge, MA 02140.

Stella T. Monahan

Stella T. (Frechette) Monahan, 76, died Oct. 19, 2000, at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was the wife of D. Leo Monahan. She was born in Cambridge on June 20, 1924, the daughter of the late Louis and Stella (Roy) Frechette. Mrs. Monahan was eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Pity Church in Cambridge. She was president of the Third Order of Mary Committee and Saint Vincent de Paul at Our Lady of Pity Church. She also worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Fagan and secretary for Seagram Distillers. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Rita (Monahan) Earley of South Natick, Attorney Gail Monahan of Belmont, and Mary Reed of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Joseph Frechette of Worcester; a sister, Yvonne Dolan of Cambridge; a son-in-law, Robert LeDoux of Worcester; and four grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Stella (Monahan) LeDoux. A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 23, in St. Jerome's Church in Arlington. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown. Arrangements were under the care of the Keefe Funeral Home Inc., Arlington.

Edith C. Kelley

Edith C. (Horan) Kelley, 90, died Oct. 28, 2000, at Meadow Green Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Harold G. Kelley. Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Belmont Women's Club and St. Joseph's Ladies Sodality. She is survived by a son, Dennis G. Kelley of Belmont; a nephew, Donald G. Ramsey of South Dennis; and two nieces, Marianne and Kathryn Horan of Braintree. She was also the sister of the late Harold B., Charles W., George and Margaret Horan, and Alice Ramsey. A funeral was held Oct. 31, from the Stanton Funeral Home in Watertown, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Belmont. Interment was in Belmont Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions in Mrs. Kelley's memory may be made to the Catholic Television Center, 55 Chapel St., P.O. Box 9109, Newton, MA 02460.

George M. Fenollosa

George Manuel Fenollosa, 89, of Lexington, formerly of Belmont, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Brookhaven at Lexington. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Sutherland) Fenollosa. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was raised in Salem, Mass., graduated from Phillips Andover Academy and Harvard University, Class of 1933. He worked for Houghton Mifflin Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1973 as senior vice president and director of the company. During World War II, he served in the Pacific theatre as captain in the U.S. Army's 77th Division Artillery. Mr. Fenollosa is survived by two sons, William S. Fenollosa of Hopkinton, N.H. and Michael K. Fenollosa of Lexington; a daughter, Elizabeth F. Boege of Darien, Conn., and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church, Belmont, Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the general fund of All Saints' Episcopal Church, 17 Clark St., Belmont, MA 02478; or to The Fenollosa Family Book Fund (58-1060-3), Harvard University, 124 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA 02138. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Belmont.

Virginia Culici

Virginia Ann Culici, 49, of Belmont, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Wingate at Brighton in Boston. She was the daughter of John and Frances (Gulino) Culici of Belmont. Born in Cambridge, she was a lifelong Belmont resident. She attended the Cotting School of Boston and Lexington, and for several years was employed by the town of Belmont. She was also employed by Unitrod of Watertown for a number of years. She was a member of the Spina Bifida Society of Massachusetts and the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Elaine M. and her husband Anthony DiGiovanni of Belmont; a brother, John Culici and his wife Corneila of Newton; nieces and nephews, Justin, Leighton and Helen Culici and Brooke DiGiovanni Evans; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held today, Nov. 2, from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 325 Trapelo Road, Belmont, at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Common St., Belmont at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Belmont Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Flowers are appreciated or expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice, Inc., 310 Allston St., Boston, MA 02135; or the Wingate at Brighton, 10 North Beacon St., Boston, MA 02124.

Milford D. Schulz

LEXINGTON - Milford D. Schulz, M.D., 90, formerly of Belmont, died unexpectedly Oct. 22, 2000, at Lexington's Brookhaven Retirement Center. He was the husband of the late E. Marie (Brandt) Schulz.

Dr. Schulz was born in Sister Bay, Wis. He graduated from North Central College in Illinois and received his doctorate in medicine from Northwestern University. In 1942, he joined the radiation therapy department at Massachusetts General Hospital and remained there until his retirement.

He was a professor of radiation therapy at MGH and Harvard Medical School. Active in many committees, Dr. Schulz was a founding member of the Association of University Radiologists, past president of the American Radium Society, the Roentgen Ray Society, and the New England Cancer Society, and a past member of the Radiological Society in North America, the International Club of Radiotherapists, and the American Club of Therapeutic Radiologists.

He and his late wife were residents of Belmont from 1947 until their move to Lexington in 1989. He has been an active member of the Woodworkers Guild and the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. Throughout his life, he was a talented cabinetmaker and woodworker.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Allen of Belmont, and his granddaughter, Naomi.

Funeral services were private.

Philip A. Strazzula Jr.

Philip A. Strazzula Jr., 72, died Nov. 7, 2000, at Mount Auburn Hospital. He was the husband of Jean (Wyss) Strazzula. He was born in Everett, and graduated from Belmont High School. He was a lifelong resident of Belmont. As a teenager, Mr. Strazzula worked with his parents in their wholesale and retail candy and ice cream business in the West End of Boston, Brookline and Belmont. His father opened the original Phillips Candy House in Revere in 1925. In 1952, Mr. Strazzula, together with his brother, the late Matthew J. Strazzula, and brother-in-law, Joseph A. Sammartino, expanded their business to its current location on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester. Today Phillips Family Properties owns and operates Phillips Candy House as well as Phillips Old Colony House Restaurant, the Ramada Inn of Boston (formerly Susse Chalet Lodge), Howard Johnson Hotel (formerly Susse Chalet Inn), the Polo Club Lounge, Pizano Café, Boston Bowl, and G. Wizz Family Fun Center. As a businessman, Mr. Strazzula was noted for his dedication to customer service. Mr. Strazzula served in the United States Coast Guard and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sons of Italy Professional and Businessmen Lodge and the Knights of Columbus Belmont Council. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Philip A. Strazzula III of Norwell, and Matthew J. Strazzula of Boston; a daughter, Joan Teebagy of Belmont; a sister, Anna Sammartino of Naples, Fla.; and five grandchildren. A funeral was held Nov. 13, from the Short, Williamson and Diamond Funeral Home in Belmont, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Mercy Church. Interment was in Belmont Cemetery. For those who wish, contributions in Mr. Strazzula's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Frederick M. Westcott

CHATHAM - Frederick M. Westcott, formerly of Westwood, died Nov. 11, 2000. He was the husband of Jean A. (Collins) Westcott.

Mr. Westcott was a Army veteran of the CBI Theater of War during World War II.

He was a former police officer for the town of Westwood.

Mr. Westcott was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Chatham and Westwood, a member of the VFW of Chatham and Westwood, and a member of the Massachusetts Police Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jil A. Westcott; a son-in-law, John G. Bell of Belmont; a granddaughter, Lauren Jean Bell; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at All Saints Episcopal Church (corner of Clark and Common streets), Belmont. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours in the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont, 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, contributions in Mr. Westcott's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, North Street, Hyannis, MA 02601, or a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements were under the care of the Brown & Sons Funeral Home, Belmont.
