Raymond P. Fournier, 77, researcher on Apollo

Raymond P. Fournier of South Yarmouth, who as a researcher worked on the Apollo missions to the moon, died Thursday at his home from lung cancer. He was 77.
Born in Tyngsboro, Mr. Fournier was raised and educated in Windham, Maine, and graduated from Northeastern University. He lived in Medfield for many years before retiring to the Cape in 1991.
Mr. Fournier was a nose gunner aboard B - 24 Liberators in the North Atlantic and on European submarine patrols during World War II.
After the war, he was employed in the guidance and navigation field in various missile programs. While working for General Electric, he received a commendation from the Navy for his achievements as a member of the first launch team of the Polaris missile from the USS George Washington.
While working for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a member of the Apollo team, he was awarded a medallion made of alloy that had been physically flown to the moon.
Mr. Fournier's last position was as manager of the purchasing department for the Charles Stark Draper Lab.
Mr. Fournier is survived by his wife, Anita (Pelletier); a son, William of Portland, Maine; and a daughter, Margo of Arvada, Colo.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth.

Joseph Glennon, 87, retired executive

Joseph Raymond Glennon Jr. of South Dartmouth, a retired New England manager and part owner of Stoney Mueller Corporation in Newark, N.J., died Tuesday at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He was 87.
Born in New Bedford, he graduated from New Bedford High School and the University of Notre Dame. In high school he was president of the student council and a member of the 1929 Bristol County champion football team. He took graduate courses at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston University and New York University. He had lived in South Dartmouth for the past 42 years.
Mr. Glennon was assistant manager in the pharmaceutical division of Commercial Solvents, the first producer of penicillin. He later became the New England manager and part owner of Stoney Mueller Corporation in Newark, N.J.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Salesmen Association of Chemical Industry, Dartmouth Republican Committee, New Bedford Yacht Club, Tahoe Sierra Yacht Club and the 80 - plus Ski Club. He was former president of the Dartmouth Parent - Teachers Association, former town meeting member in Needham, and was a town meeting member in Dartmouth.
Mr. Glennon is survived by his wife, Kathryn C. (Coffey); a daughter, Dr. Katharine Fralick of Plymouth; three sons, Dr. Joseph R. III of South Dartmouth, John G. of Pittsburg, Calif., and Dr. Thomas M. of Santa Monica, Calif.; three sisters, Rita G. Barry of Acushnet, Patricia A. Southwick of South Dartmouth and Mary Jane Baylies of Weston; a brother, Richard J. of Langley, Wash.; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.

Stuart Jencks, 76, retired salesman
North Attleboro

Stuart E. Jencks of North Attleboro, a retired salesman, died Monday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was 76.
Born in Woonsocket, R.I., Mr. Jencks graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1940.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Jencks was employed as a salesman for Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co. in North Kingstown, R.I., for many years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Jencks was a member of the Founders and Patriots, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Mayflower Society and was a 50 - year member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Woonsocket.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth H. (Sweeting) of North Attleboro; two sons, Craig S. of Doylestown, Pa., and Stephen D. of Merrimack, N.H.; a daughter, Karen J. Thrippleton of Floral Park, Colo.; a brother, Kenneth W. of Cumberland, R.I.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.

Ruth Sexton Joyce, 89, homemaker
Marion; Wellesley

Ruth E. (Costello) Sexton Joyce of Wellesley and Marion, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Boston Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 89.
Born in Melrose, Mrs. Joyce graduated from Acton High School in 1927 and attended Northfield Seminary and the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston.
Mrs. Joyce was a member of the Braeburn Country Club in Newton, the Wellesley Hills Woman's Club and the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. She was also a life member and treasurer of the Wellesley Chapter of the Florence Crittenton League.
Wife of the late William J., Mrs. Joyce is survived by her nephew, Alfred M. Sexton of Weston and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the J.S. Waterman and Sons - Waring Funeral Home, Wellesley.
A private burial wil be held in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
Barbara Kickham, 76, homemaker
Chestnut Hill

Barbara Kickham of Chestnut Hill, a homemaker, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston. She was 76.
Born in Brockton, Mrs. Kickham graduated from Dana Hall and Wellesley College. She was a longtime resident of Chestnut Hill.
She belonged to the Charles River Country Club, Newton and Oyster Harbors Club, Osterville.
Mrs. Kickham is survived by her husband, Charles J. Kickham Jr.; four daughters, Sally Brocato of Texas, Constance of Newton, Christina Costigan of Australia and Barbara Marie of Medfield; two sons, Charles J. III of Florida and George of Chestnut Hill; two sisters, Ruth Doyle of Cambridge and Marjorie Hodgman of Brockton; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at the Church of the Infant Jesus, Chestnut Hill.
Burial was in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.

William G. King, 52, Mitre Corp. engineer
Billerica

William G. King of Billerica, formerly of Dorchester, an engineer, died unexpectedly Sunday at home. He was 52.
Born and raised in Dorchester, Mr. King had lived in Billerica for the past 20 years.
He attended both Northeastern University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He graduated from Wentworth Institute.
He was employed as an engineer for Bedford's Mitre Corp.
A 4th degree member of the Bishop Cheverus General Assembly Knights of Columbus, he was also involved in its honor guard. Mr. King was also a member of the Dorchester Lower Mills Knights of Columbus Council 180. He was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church, Billerica, and participated in the Billerica Lodge of Elks 2071.
Mr. King is survived by an aunt, Cecilia of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; his friend, Edith O'Laughlin of Billerica; and many cousins.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at St. Theresa's Church, Billerica.
Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.

Helen E. Leverett, 90, retired teacher
Wellesley

Helen E. (Donnelly) Leverett of Wellesley, a retired teacher, died Wednesday at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick. She was 90.
A lifelong resident of Wellesley, Mrs. Leverett attended public schools before graduating from Boston University and Harvard University's Graduate School of Education. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, the honor society for women in education.
She worked as a teacher for 34 years. Mrs. Leverett spent three years in the Reading school system, and 31 with Brookline public schools.
She spent her summers conducting courses for teachers at New York State College, Pennsylvania State College, the University of Michigan and the University of Oswego in New York.
Her articles were published by many educational journals. She was also the author of a children's book.
The wife of the late Hollis M., Mrs. Leverett is survived by three nieces; three nephews; and many cousins.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 9 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, Wellesley.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
