Leo G. Casey, 83, leaves family in Chelmsford
LOWELL — Leo G. Casey, 83, died Oct. 21, 2001, at the Blair House in Tewksbury. He was the husband of Jennie M. (Chamberlin) Casey, who died in 1984.
He was born in Billerica on May 21, 1918, the son of the late Peter P. and Susan F. (O’Grady) Casey. He was educated in Billerica schools.
Mr. Casey was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a member of Troop F of the 121st Calvary and earned the Good Conduct and American Defense Service medals.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a storekeeper at AVCO in Wilmington (now known as Textron) for more than 16 years.
An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Casey was very active with the Acre Youth Organization.
He is survived by a son, Leo G. Casey Jr. and his wife Gail of Westboro; a daughter, Kathleen J. Casey of Lowell; a brother, Henry B. Casey and his wife Ann of Dracut; a sister, Mary Frances Ahearn and her husband William of Chelmsford; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Casey was known as grandpa to Lindy and Carlie Reed. He was also the brother of the late Peter Paul Casey, John Joseph Casey and Rita Healy.
A funeral was held Oct. 24, from the O’Donnell Funeral Home in Lowell, followed by a funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell.
Henry C. Connolly, 85, leaves family in Chelmsford
WOBURN — Henry C. Connolly, 85, a longtime resident of Woburn, died Oct. 14, 2001. He was the husband of Charlotte M. (Farrell) Connolly, to whom he was married for 60 years.
He was born in Woburn, the son of the late John and Ellen (Doherty) Connolly. Mr. Connolly graduated from Woburn High School in 1931.
For 32 years, Mr. Connolly was employed as regional area manager of Boston for the Sun Oil Co. based in Revere. He later became employed as a parking clerk for the city of Woburn, where he worked for 15 years.
He was especially fond of horses and also enjoyed landscaping.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Elaine M. Hamwey and her husband Alan of Chelmsford, Christine M. Cassenti and her husband Lawrence of Rowley, and Jane Avellino and her husband Sebastian of Saugus; a sister, Anna Morgan of Canton; and two grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Mary McDonnell, John Connolly and Philip Connolly.
A funeral was held Oct. 20, from the Lynch-Cantillon funeral Home in Woburn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Charles Church. Interment was in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Frances Haas, 81, of Chelmsford
CHELMSFORD — Frances Haas, 81, died Oct. 15, 2001, at the Westford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westford. She was the wife of Chauncey Haas, who died in 1987.
She was born in Lexington on Sept. 23, 1920, the daughter of the late Augustus J. and Lillian (Sears) Silva, and was educated in Lexington schools.
During World War II, Mrs. Haas was employed as a manufacturer of war plane instruments.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford.
Mrs. Haas was a member of the Chelmsford Senior Citizens, and worked in the organization’s Respite Care program. She was also a member of the Emblem Club in Chelmsford.
She is survived by three sons, Robert C. Haas and his wife Mary Lou of Windham, N.H., Michael J. Haas and his wife Terri Lynne of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and James D. Haas and his wife Paula of Hooksett, N.H.; two brothers, Richard Silva of Utah, and Edward Silva and his wife Lorraine of Arlington; a sister, Barbara (Cope) Baril of Methuen; a sister-in-law, Barbara Silva of Waltham; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was also the sister of the late John Silva and Lillian Silva.
A funeral was held Oct. 18, from the Blake Funeral Home in Chelmsford, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church. Interment was in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
Marcia Lemkin, of Chelmsford
CHELMSFORD — Marcia (Levine) Lemkin, died Oct. 18, 2001, at her home in Chelmsford after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Miles Lemkin.
For the past six years, Mrs. Lemkin was employed in the accounting department of Alliant Cogenex, continuing to work throughout much of her illness. She had previously been employed at Sylvania in Waltham, and Wang Laboratories in Lowell. She also assisted her husband in the family-owned business, Lemkin’s Fashions.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Michelle Lemkin of Tyngsboro, and Melissa Bell and her husband Matthew of Peabody; her mother-in-law, Florence Lemkin of Lowell; and close friends, Ellie and George Koppel of Newton. She was also the daughter-in-law of the late Herman Lemkin.
A funeral service was held Oct. 21, at Temple Beth El Cemetery in Chelmsford.

Thelma O. McCarthy, 87, leaves family in Chelmsford
ATLANTA, Ga. — Thelma O. McCarthy, 87, died Aug. 26, 2001. She was the wife of William McCarthy Sr.
She was born in Lowell, the daughter of the late Florance and Ethel (Crothers) Moriarty, and was educated in the local schools.
Mrs. McCarthy was employed as a nurse at the Tewksbury Hospital.
She was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Atlanta.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, William T. McCarthy Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Donald J. McCarthy of Newburyport; a daughter, Valaria Rubio of Norcross, Ga.; a brother, George Moriarty of Chelmsford; a sister, Shirley Deschaine of Chelmsford; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Blanche Allen, Irene Ryan, Florence McEnaney, Edward, John, James and William Moriarty.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Andrew’s Church in Roswell, Ga., followed by interment in Arlington Memorial Park.
Robert J. Pare, 87, leaves family in Chelmsford
DRACUT — Robert J. Pare, 87, a longtime Dracut resident, died Oct. 15, 2001, at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Jeannette (Riendeau) Pare.
He was born in Canada, the son of the late Cyrille and Virginie (Landry) Pare. Mr. Pare was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Dracut.
He was a member of the Passe Temps Club, the Pawtucketville Social Club, and the Dracut Senior Citizens.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a loom fixer for the Wannalancit Mills for many years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert R. Pare and his wife Nancy (Duffy) of Woburn, and Raymond R. Pare of Lawrence; two daughters, Lorraine Field and her husband Raymond of Tyngsboro, and Susan Pare of Dracut; a brother, Curtis Pare and his wife Anna (Rourke) of Chelmsford; a sister-in-law, Margot Pare of Lowell; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Eva Lavigne, Laura Guillemette, Imelda Boily, Marie Rose April, Arthur Pare, Wilfrid Pare, Aime Pare, Aurele Pare, Rene Pare, Joseph and Noel Pare.
A funeral was held Oct. 18, from the M.R. Laurin & Son Funeral Home in Lowell, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Dracut. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford.
Carole Perkins, 62, leaves family in Chelmsford
HARVARD — Carole (MacDougal) (Chaplin) Perkins, 62, died Oct. 19, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Bruce Perkins, whom she married in 1992.
She was born in Ithica, N.Y., on June 29, 1939, the daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy (Huber) MacDougal. She grew up in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Arlington. Mrs. Perkins was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1957. She also graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in 1959, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1992, and a master’s degree in community psychology in 1999, from UMass Lowell.
Mrs. Perkins taught English as a Second Language in the Littleton school system for many years.
She attended the Baptist Church in Littleton, where she was a youth group leader and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Littleton Baptist Church Couples Club, the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts, the New Day Groton Development Stages, and the Summer Festival American Conference at Ocean Park, Maine. She also worked with many women’s shelters and wrote her thesis about the Portuguese elders of Lowell.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Heath MacDougal Chaplin of North Chelmsford, and Beth Huber Chaplin of Rochester, N.H.; a brother, Richard T. MacDougal of Mendon; and two sisters, Jean M. Hutchinson of Rochester, N.H., and Kathleen M. Simpson of Westford.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at the West Acton Baptist Church, 529 Massachusetts Ave., Acton. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 25, at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Saturday.

Wilma S. Trenkamp, 88, leaves family in Chelmsford
LOWELL — Wilma S. Trenkamp, formerly of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, died Oct. 3, 2001, at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Robert Trenkamp.
She was born on June 18, 1913, the daughter of Edward F. and Agnes W. Simon. Mrs. Trenkamp was a graduate of Shaker Heights High School and Mather College where she studied piano from Arthur Loesser. Following graduation from college and a brief career with Western Reserve University, she married and raised her family.
Mrs. Trenkamp was active in various garden clubs, the Connecticut Valley Embroiders Guild, the Hospital Guild, and the Women’s Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra.
She is survived by a son, Bob Trenkamp of Savannah, Ga.; two daughters, Anne Trenkamp of Chelmsford, and Sally Dowling of Narragansett, R.I.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Larry and Paul Simon.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, at the First Baptist Church, Fairmont Blvd., at Eaton. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.

Frances E. Wood, 80, of Chelmsford
CHELMSFORD — Frances E. Wood, 80, formerly of Lowell, died Oct. 1, 2001, at Lowell General Hospital.
She was born in Lowell on May 5, 1921, the daughter of the late Waldo L. and Annie E. (Hobbs) Wood. She attended Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro and graduated from Rogers Hall in Lowell. She continued her education at the Modern School of Fashion and Design, graduating in 1945.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Wood was employed as a telephone operator at AT&T.
She is survived by a cousin, Frank Smith and his wife Gertrude of Kingston, N.H.; and close friends, Charles and Phyllis LaFlamme of Lowell.
A graveside service was held Oct. 3, at Heart Pond Cemetery, Chelmsford.
Arrangements were under the care of the Blake Funeral Home, Chelmsford.
Ruth L. Byam, of Wilmington
WILMINGTON — A graveside service will be held at the family Plot at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, for Ruth L. Byam, who died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in Falmouth, where she resided for 40 years. The Rev. Herb Taylor of the Wilmington United Methodist Church will officiate.
Mrs. Byam was the wife of the late Neil Byam.
Mrs. Byam previously lived in Wilmington, where she graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1925. She attended the Methodist Church when she was a resident of Wilmington.
She is survived by a son, Neil M. Byam Jr.; a daughter, M. Beth Jerrett of Ipswich; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of the Nichols Funeral Home, Wilmington.
