Willard B. Simmons
TEWKSBURY - Willard B. Simmons, 80, of Tewksbury, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Charlotte (Peabody) Simmons.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, Oct. 7, 1920, he was the son of the late Jesse M. and Phylinda (Upton) Simmons. He was raised in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. He attended Emerson College in Boson and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in literary interpretation. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, honorably discharged Sept. 14, 1948 after achieving rank of sergeant. He was an active member and past deacon of the Tewksbury Congregational Church. He also volunteered with the church Sunday School and youth groups.
Before moving to Tewksbury in 1957 he lived in Boston. Prior to retirement he was employed as a salesperson by various companies including the Langley Corp. of Medford. He was a volunteer at the Phoenix House of Tewksbury. He enjoyed gardening and letter writing.
Besides his wife with whom he would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary June 6, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lucy A. and Anthony C. Pelleriti of Lowell; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Richard E. Simmons and Clara A. Small.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2 at the Tewksbury Congregational Church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Tewksbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Cancer Center at Saints Memorial Medical Center, 2 Hospital Drive, Lowell, MA 01852.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, Tewksbury.
Emilie M. O'Brien, 63, leaves family in Reading
Emilie M. O'Brien, 63, a resident of Woburn for most of her life, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Leominster Hospital.
Born in Woburn she was the daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy (Hubbard) O'Brien. She had been living in Leominster for the past year.
She worked as a nurse's aide for many years, first at the Choate Hospital in Woburn and later at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter Laura Lloyd and her husband Leo of Arlington; three sons, Gary DelGreco of Littleton, E. Michael DelGreco of Florida and David DelGreco of Reading; her twin sister, Dorothy Upton of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, David O'Brien of Woodstock, Conn. and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn, Wednesday, June 6. Interment was private.

Virginia M. Sands
Virginia M. (Shevlin) Sands, 82, of Arlington, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Winchester Hospital. She was the wife of the late George W. Sands who died in 1966.
Born in Taunton, her family moved to Worcester where she attended the Worcester public schools. After graduating from Worcester North High School she attended two years of business school. For over 30 years she worked in the banking industry, first with Suburban National, Harvard Trust, Coolidge Trust and the Bay Bank in Lexington from which she retired in 1985. She enjoyed playing Bingo.
Mrs. Sands is survived by three sons, Paul S. Sands and his wife Rosey of Woburn, Peter J. Sands and his wife Amy and Philip C. Sands, all of Arlington; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her sister Phyllis Croce.
The funeral was held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn, Wednesday, May 30 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Agnes Church, Arlington. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Adam Roketenetz
WOBURN — Adam Roketenetz, 75, died June 2, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Ida M. (DiStasio) Roketenetz.
Mr. Roketenetz, known to his family and friends as " Sonny, " was a co-founder and co-owner, along with his brothers, of Ace Disposal Service.
He was born in Woburn, the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Chediowski) Roketenetz. He attended Woburn schools and lived in North Woburn all his life.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps. While stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations, he participated in action against the enemy in Iwo Jima early in 1945.
Since his retirement from the family-owned rubbish disposal company 20 years ago, he enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He was actively involved in many organizations in the city, including the Towanda Club, the Woburn Lodge of Elks, the Loyal Order of Moose, the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion, the VFW and the City Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Richardson of Billerica, Valerie Oteri and her husband Edward of North Reading, and Patricia Roketenetz of Boston; a brother, Stanley Roketenetz of Lynnfield; and four grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Joseph, Alexander, Peter and Michael Roketenetz.
A funeral was June 6, held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home in Woburn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church. Interment was in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Carmella Anderson
Carmella " Millie " (Gangi) Anderson, 87, owner of Millie’s Variety, one of the original stores in Burlington, died at her sons home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Stanley Anderson, who died in 1997.
Mrs. Anderson was born in the North End, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Providenzia " Florence " Gangi. She grew up and was educated in Woburn. Her family has a long history with Woburn owning the Woburn Bowladrome and Crestview Plaza on Montvale Ave. She moved with her husband to Burlington in 1954 and ran Millie’s Variety store from 1954 to 1960, which served as a grocery store and sandwich shop, located on Cambridge Street by the Billerica line. Over the years she had also worked at Honeywell and Almy’s Department Store in Burlington.
She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by two sons, Charles W. Anderson and his wife Jean of Billerica and Stanley W. Anderson Jr. and his wife Debra of Derry, N.H.; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was also sister of Al Gangi of Mississippi, Josephine Wightman of Derry, N.H., C. Edward " Huck " Gangi of North Carolina and James, David, Louis and Anthony Gangi, all of Woburn. She was predeceased by two sisters, Ann Rooney and Elizabeth Puleo and three brothers, Michael Gangi, Salvatore Gangi and Charles Gangi.
The funeral was held from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington, Wednesday, June 6 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Malachy’s. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.

Catherine F. DeLuca
Catherine F. " Kay " DeLuca, 82, of North Woburn, died at her home Monday, May 28, 2001. She was the wife of Donald A. DeLuca.
Born and raised in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Nora (Eager) Harrington. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Cambridge and made her home in Woburn since her marriage. She was devoted to her family and her church.
Besides her husband of 60 years, she is survived by two sons, Donald A. DeLuca Jr. and his wife Diane of Billerica and Richard J. DeLuca and his wife Andrea of Georgia; two daughters, Arlene M. Friel and her husband Dan Jr. of Andover and Janet A. Fahey of Billerica; a sister, Joan McNamara of Cambridge; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by three brothers, Francis, John and Philip Harrington and three sisters, Helen Rowe, Mary Duffett and Dorothy McCallum.
The funeral was held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn, Friday, June 1 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church. Interment was in Woodbrook Cemetery.

Alice M. Smith
Alice M. Smith, 91, a longtime Woburn resident, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Littleton Hospital, Littleton, N.H., following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Smith who died in 1996.
Born in Now Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Hosanna Plamondon. She came to Massachusetts with her family as a youngster and was raised in Beverly. She lived in the South End of Woburn for over 50 years until recently, when she took up residence in New Hampshire.
Surviving are two daughters, Susanne Mahoney and her husband David of Woburn, and Colette Morris and her husband Ronald of Lisbon, N.H.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Plamondon.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Charles Church, Woburn, Tuesday, June 5th. Interment took place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

oseph D. Valcour
Joseph D. Valcour of Woburn died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Winchester Hospital. He was the husband of Helen F. (Damrath) Valcour.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Robinson) Valcour. He was a lifelong Woburn resident and graduated from Woburn High School in 1940. In 1949 he graduated from Suffolk University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism. He served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ashtabula during World War II.
Mr. Valcour began Valcour Dental Supply in 1949 and continued as owner until his death. He also served under the administration of former mayor John F. Gilgun as secretary and purchasing agent from 1960 to 1963. He was a member of the Woburn Elks, the American Legion and the K. of C. He was a lector at St. Joseph’s Church for the last 27 years. He was dedicated to his family and an avid golfer.
Besides his wife Mr. Valcour is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Kenney of Woburn; a brother, Charles J. Valcour Jr. of Barnstable; three sisters, Helen McMahon, Ruth Nilsson and Mary Connors, all of Woburn and one grandchild.
The funeral was held from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, Woburn Wednesday, June 6 followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Joseph Church. Services concluded with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Woburn.

John G. Antonakos, 85, leaves family in Arlington
MALDEN — John G. Antonakos, 85, died May 31, 2001, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Elene (Katsoulakos) Antonakos.
He was born in Lowell on Aug. 2, 1915, the son of the late George J. and Stella (Genakos) Antonakos. He grew up in Lowell and lived in Dorchester and Everett before settling in Malden 46 years ago.
Mr. Antonakos was a restaurant owner and cook.
He was a former member of Sterling Lodge of Masons in Malden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George J. Antonakos of Windham, N.H., and Sotirios J. " Steve: Antonakos of Andover; three brothers, Nicholas Antonakos of Arlington, James Antonakos of Chelmsford, and Charles Antonakos of Quincy; two sisters, Mary Pegantis of Arlington and Pauline Macaris of Chelmsford; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Michael and Frances G. Antonakos.
Philip S. Barry, 56, leaves family in Arlington
NEWBURY, N.H. — Philip S. Barry, 56, formerly of Melrose and Somerville, died June 1, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Newbury. He was the husband of Sharon A. (Sullivan) Barry, R.N.
He was born in Cambridge on Nov. 11, 1944, the son of John P. and Rose Marie (Bradley) Barry.
Mr. Barry was a member of the Machinist Union Local 264.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Joan Musumarra of Methuen and Rosemary Ruggiero of Arlington; several nieces and nephews; two grandnieces and one grandnephew.
A funeral service was held June 6, in St. John’s Church in Cambridge. Interment was in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
