Daniel R. Bassett

Daniel R. Bassett of Bedford, formerly of Florida, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at the V.A. Hospital in Bedford. He was the husband of Annabelle (Dana) Bassett. He was the father of Barbara Kapusta, Terra Partridge, Kim Bassett, Sandra Bassett, Karren Flahery, April Bassett, Russell Bassett and the late Vivian Martinez.

Mr. Bassett served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. He later retired from United Parcel Service (UPS).

Mr. Bassett's hobbies included golf, hunting, pool, bowling, sailing and the stock market.

Besides his children he is also survived by four sisters, Pauline Gabriel, Mary Bassett, Joan Barnes, Matilda Maher, Elaine Waitrak; two brothers, Francis and Earl; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Edward "Spike" Bassett, Victor Bassett and Hazel Dana.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Feb. 17 in St. Ann's Church, Perry, Maine. Burial was in the family lot, Pleasant Point Reservation, Perry, Maine.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Shawsheen Funeral Home, Bedford.

Lynne C. Brady

TEWKSBURY - Lynne C. (McGondel) Brady, 54, of Tewksbury, formerly of Woburn, died Feb. 9, 2000, in Newton.

Mrs. Brady was born in Winchester, the daughter of Rita E. (Kelley) McGondel of Woburn and the late Charles McGondel. She had lived in Woburn for many years prior to moving to Tewksbury 22 years ago.

Mrs. Brady was currently employed as an office manager for Gerald Kaplan, C.P.A. in Newton.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Sean T. Brady of Billerica, and Michael L. Norton of Tewksbury; a daughter, Shannon E. Brady of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, Peter McGondel of Woburn; a sister, Kristen Duffany of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Judith Brady of Lawrence; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held today, Feb. 17, from the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home, Wilmington, followed by a funeral mass in St. William's Church, Tewksbury.

Marilyn L. DeGrazia

LEXINGTON - Marilyn L. DeGrazia, a resident of Lexington for over 38 years, died suddenly on Jan. 27, 2000, in Port Charles, Fla. She was the wife of the Joseph M. DeGrazia Sr.

Born in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Jane O'Donnell.

Mrs. DeGrazia was employed for many years at Northwest Airlines as an administrator. Later, she joined the staff at Gillette, Inc., also in an administrative capacity.

Throughout her life, she volunteered many hours to numerous charitable causes including assisting at various soup kitchens even during the holidays. In the early 70s and 80s, she became an active supporter in the Lexington Youth Hockey program. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people.

In addition to her husband of nearly 42 years, she is survived by two sons, Michael J. DeGrazia of Lowell, and Joseph M. DeGrazia Jr. and his wife Linda of Bedford; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jillian DeGrazia of Bedford; several nieces, nephews, and a grand-niece and nephew.

Funeral services were held from the Douglass Funeral Home, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid's Church, Lexington. Interment was in West View Cemetery.

Theodora Shrock

Theodora A. (Weidman) Shrock, a long-time resident of Lexington, died on Feb. 5, 2000 in Fairlawn Nursing Home. A former English teacher in the Bedford and Concord-Carlisle high schools, she coordinated and then served as Assistant Director of the Lexington Adult Education Program from 1980 un-til her retirement in 1993. She was the wife of the late Robert R. Shrock.

Mrs. Shrock was born in Toledo, OH. She earned a B.A. in Comparative Litera-ture and an M.A. in English at the University of Wisconsin, and an A.M. in English and Linguistics from Radcliffe College. She interrupted her doctoral studies during World War II to move from Cambridge to Washington, D.C., where she worked as an intelligence analyst in cryptography for the U.S. Government. Mrs. Shrock and her husband, Robert R. Shrock, Professor of Geology at M.I.T., settled in Lexington following the war.

Mrs. Shrock was active in town affairs for many years, as a member of the Citizens' Committee for the Lexington Public Schools, League of Women Voters, and First Parish Church (Unitarian) of Lexington. A long-time member of the M.I.T. Matrons, she chaired two committees which assisted foreign students' adaptation to life in the United States. She will be remembered as a tire-less, intelligent, and articulate woman who was deeply devoted to the study of language and literature.

Mrs. Shrock leaves a son, Robert Shrock of Setau-ket, NY; a daughter, Wendolyn Shrock de Dominguez of Northfield, Mass.; a sister, Phyllis Weidman Glasgow of Owasso, Okla.

She also leaves three grandchildren and several cousins.

A memorial gathering will be scheduled at a later date.

Francis Sheridan

Francis Sheridan, 84, of Florida, formerly of California, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at his home after an illness, with his children and grandchildren at his side. He was the husband of Betty Sheridan.

Born in East Boston, he was the son of Mary and Frank Sheridan. He grew up in East Boston and moved to California many years ago. He moved to Florida recently when he became ill, to be with his family. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, retiring as major.

Besides his wife, Mr. Sheridan is survived by four children, Kathy, Betty Ann Edwards, Timothy, and Peter; a brother, George Sheridan of Bedford; a sister, Agnes Rooney of Ohio, many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Robert Sheridan who died in action in Vietnam at the age of 20.

Mr. Sheridan was buried with his son Robert, at the veteran's cemetery in San Diego, Calif.

James Mills

James L. Mills, 57, of Littleton, formerly of Bedford, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000 at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a battle with cancer. He was the husband of Francine (Sokil) Mills.

Born in Hackensack, N.J., he was the son of the late James A. and Grace (Luxton) Mills. He spent his early years in Woodcliff Lake, N.J. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. He had resided in Littleton for the past three years.

Mr. Mills raised and showed champion poodles and was an active member of the Poodle Club of Massachusetts and a past president of the Middlesex County Kennel Club. He was also a member of the Elks in Lexington, collected antique cars and was a member of the Yankee Pontiac Club of Massachusetts.

Besides his wife of 33 years, he is survived by two sons, James B. and Joseph D, both of Littleton; a daughter, Karyn E. of Tewksbury; two grandsons; a brother, Douglas T. and a sister Virginia E., both of New Jersey.

A celebration of his life will be held today, Feb. 17 at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, at 8 p.m. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Albany, N.Y.

Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mai K. Dillmore

Mai K. Dillmore, 90, of Bedford, a former longtime resident of Jacksonville, Fla., died at her home Feb. 6, 2000. She was the wife of the late Wilson H. Dillmore.

Born in Williamsport, Penn., Mrs. Dillmore was the daughter of the late Isaac and Ollie (March) Guinard. She was a member of the Hancock United Church of Christ, Lexington, and was an active volunteer at Bowman and Harrington Grade School in Lexington. While living in Florida she was the Co-Director of the Meals on Wheels Program in Jacksonville and was a member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

Mrs. Dillmore leaves a son, Wilson D. Dillmore and his wife, Patricia H. of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Kay E. Dillmore of Bedford, formerly of Waltham.

She also leaves a grandson, Russell Cody Dillmore.

A Memorial Service was held Feb. 12 in the Hancock United Church of Christ.

Donations in Mrs. Dillmore's memory may be made to the Harrington School Playground Committee, Harrington School, 146 Maple St., Lexington, MA 02420.

Arrangements were by the Bedford Funeral Home, Bedford.

Charles Koon

BEDFORD - Charles Marvin Koon, 87, of Bedford, died Jan. 29, 2000, at the Sunbridge of Lexington Nursing Home. He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann (Ashe) Koon.

Born in Auburn, New York on Dec. 18, 1912, he was the son of the late Archie and Mertice (Hancock) Koon. He attended the Willow Brook School, a one room country school, and graduated from Auburn Academic High School in 1929. He received a bachelor of science and a master of science degrees from Syracuse University, New York State College of Forestry in 1934 and 1935.

He was first employed at the Champion Fibre Company in Canton, N.C. and then as instructor of pulping at the Institute Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wis., in which capacity he was employed until his military service began in 1942.

Mr. Koon was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Warfare Service in April 1942, and was then ordered to Pine Bluff Arsenal in Pine Bluff, Ark. In 1943, he began training as a military government officer, and served in that capacity with the rank of captain in England, France, and Stuttgart, Germany. While in Germany he was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal and three battle stars. Following his honorary discharge from the Army in February, 1945, he was employed by the Munising Paper Company in Munising, Mich., as technical director of Quality Control. In July 1949, he was invited to participate in the ECA-OSR (Marshall Plan) in Parish, France as assistant chief of the Pulp, Paper and Timber Section.

Mr. Koon and his family returned from France in 1952, having completed his duty with the Marshall Plan and was employed as technical service director at the Oxford Paper Company in Rumford, Maine. In 1959, he accepted a position with the Eastern Corporation in Bangor, Maine. He came to Longview, Oregon in 1961, where he served as technical director for Pulp and Paperboard at the Weyerhauser Company until his retirement in 1977.

He was a member of TAPPI, and of the Longview Country Club until 1993. He did volunteer work with RSVP as a senior companion and provided transportation for seniors and the residents of Cottonwood Lodge. An avid and accomplished linguist, he translated patents, documents, and technical articles from German, French and Spanish into English for Weyerhaeuser, the James River Corporation in Neenah, Wis., and the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wis.

He visited nursing homes in the area several times weekly, singing folk songs, tunes from the 20s, musical comedy songs, and hymns. He was a hospice volunteer, providing respite care for homebound caregivers, home visits to terminal patients, and bereavement work.

Moving to Bedford in 1998, he was a member of St. Michael's Church, and was active at the COA. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Bedford and the Carleton Willard Village in Bedford.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Ashe Koon of Horsham, England, and Howard Paul Koon of Bellingham, Wash.; four daughters, Katharine Hill of Madison, Wis., Mary Koon of New Boston, N.H., Dr. Margery Aumann of Bedford, and Theresa Koon of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at St. Michael's Church, Bedford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Arrangements are under the care of the Bedford Funeral Home, Bedford.

Phyllis Kennedy

Phyllis E. Kennedy, 77, of Bedford, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000. She was the wife of Frederick R. Kennedy.

Born in Boston, she graduated from Waltham High School and became a homemaker. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed folk art. A longtime Bedford resident, she was a founding member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Kennedy is survived by a daughter Leslie Hardy of Byfield; a son, Gary R. of California and two grandchildren, Seth and Samuel Hardy of Byfield. She was sister of the late Charles Keith and Virginia Noyes.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17 under the management of Shawsheen Funeral Home, Bedford.

Donations in Mrs. Kennedy's memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Massachusetts, Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02142.
