Mary E. Costello
Mary E. "Betty" (McGrath) Costello, a resident of Arlington for 15 years, died Saturday, June 21, 1997, in Falmouth Hospital. She was 76.
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, she graduated from St. Clement's High School in 1939. She retired as an executive secretary for Diamond Crystal Salt Co.
Wife of the late William Costello and Louis Mortali, she leaves her sisters, Loretta Morrissey of North Carolina and Mary G. Costa of Quincy; her brothers, Wallace McGrath of Chelmsford and Richard McGrath of Somerville; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was the sister of the late Michael McGrath, Joseph McGrath, John McGrath, Dorothy Butler and Mercedes Guggina.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 25, in The Church of St. James the Apostle, Arlington. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
Arrangements were made by the Daniel F. O'Brien Funeral Home, Arlington.
Mary Stanley
Mary "Dot" (Kerrigan) Stanley, a resident of Arlington for more than 55 years, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in her home.
Born in Boston, she attended Boston schools and Boston Girl's Latin school. She retired as a medical secretary for McLean's Hospital.
Wife of the late John C. Stanley, she leaves her children, Michael C. Stanley and Terry Cooney, both of Arlington; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late John A. Stanley and Peter Stanley.
A funeral service was held Saturday, June 21, in the Church of St. Eulalia. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
Arrangements were made by the Berglund Williams Wilson Funeral Home, Arlington.
C. Andrew Perkins

POCASSET - C. Andrew Perkins, 88, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Pocasset after a 10-year illness. He was the husband of the late Fredna (Garner) Perkins for 48 years.
He was born in Boston on March 30, 1915, and raised in Watertown and Pocasset. Mr. Perkins attended Tabor Academy and Dartmouth College.
Mr. Perkins was a gelatin salesman and after an early retirement, he spent many years sailing, playing golf and tennis.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy P. Ferguson of Pocasset, Susan L. Perkins of Maynard, and Sally P. Raymond of Arlington; a sister, Jane P. Sweetser of Concord; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three nieces and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 11, at the Church of the Epiphany, Church Street, Winchester. Another memorial service will be held in June at Mr. Perkins residence.

Mary M. Noonan

ARLINGTON - Mary M. Noonan, 78, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Maristhill Nursing Center in Waltham after a long illness.
She was born in Cambridge, where she lived for many years before moving to Arlington in the late 1980s. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Everett L. Noonan and Anna (McSorley) Noonan. Miss Noonan attended Salem State Teachers College and received her master's degree from Boston University.
Miss Noonan was a retired Cambridge schoolteacher for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
She was active in the Salem State College Alumni Group of Arlington, Cambridge and Somerville. She was also active in the Cambridge Teachers Association and the Cambridge Teachers Credit Union.
Miss Noonan was an active member of the Arlington Catholic Women's Club and Our Lady's Sodality at St. Agnes Church. She volunteered at the Woburn Rehabilitation Center and was the corresponding secretary of the North Suburban Chapter of the Mass. Retired Teachers. Miss Noonan was also active in organizations in her former parish, St. Paul's Church in Cambridge.
She is survived by two brothers, Everett L. Noonan Jr. and his wife, Cecilia in Connecticut, and James P. Noonan and his, wife Marion of Arlington; a sister, Anne G. Nicholson and her husband, John of Longmeadow; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated April 4, at St. Agnes Church in Arlington, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Arrangements were under the care of the William T. Hickey & Son Funeral Home, Cambridge.
Edward 'Ned' Graves

WALPOLE, N.H. - Edward "Ned" Graves, 76, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H.
He was born in Walpole, N.H., on Nov. 21, 1926, the son of Tom and Helen (Willson) Graves. Mr. Graves was a graduate of Walpole High School.
Mr. Graves joined the U.S. Marine Corps right out of high school and served in World War II on the USS Pennsylvania.
He was employed as a truck driver working in construction and farming in the Walpole area.
Mr. Graves was an avid golfer, Yankee fan, and enjoyed attending ship reunions.
He also supported Fall Mountain High School sports teams. Mr. Graves was a member of the American Legion, Bridge-Wilson Post 77 in Walpole.
He is survived by two sons, Daryl Graves of Arlington and James Graves of Keene, N.H.; two daughters, Kathy Ames of Lebanon, N.H., and Emily Graves of Greenfield; a brother, William Graves of Keene; two sisters, Marjorie Fry and Becky Hubbard, both of Walpole; and seven grandchildren.
He was also the brother of the late John "Hub" Graves.
There was a memorial reception April 4, at the American Legion, Bridge-Wilson Post 77, Walpole, N.H.

Dr. J. Richard Myles

LINCOLN - Dr. J. Richard Myles, 85, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a long illness. He was the husband of Theresa A. (Morrissey) Myles.
He was born in Cambridge on Sept. 16, 1917, the son of the late Dr. Leo T. Myles and Helena (Murphy) Myles. Dr. Myles was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in 1940, Harvard Dental School in 1944, and did his post-graduate work at John Hopkins Medical Center in Maryland.
Dr. Myles served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant with the Medical Services Corps.
He had a private practice in Cambridge for 47 years until his retirement in 1993.
His professional activities include chairman of the Middlesex District Society, member of the North East Board of Dental Examiners, president of Mass. Dental Society, president of New England Foundation for Continuing Education, chairman of Mass. Dental Board of Registration, past chairman of Yankee Dental Congress, staff member of Cambridge Hospital, Sancta Maria Hospital, and Harvard Athletic Department Dental Staff, honorary member of Harvard University Club, member of American Legion Post 84 - past commander, and member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 3239.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Leo T. Myles of Turner, Maine, Kevin M. Myles of Corvallis, Ore., and John R. Myles Jr. of Melrose; three daughters, Christine T. Cuneo of Woburn, Michelle M. Howie of Bedford, and Heidi A. Ray of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Thomas P. Myles of Wayland; two sisters, Marguerite McGirr of Brewster and Barbara Macklin of Key Biscayne, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was celebrated April 14, in St. Joseph's Church in Lincoln. Interment was in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster.
Arrangements were under the care of the Keefe Funeral Home Inc., Cambridge.
Lillian J. Mitchell

SOMERVILLE - Lillian J. Mitchell, 77, a lifelong Somerville resident, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Somerville Hospital. She was the wife of the late William H. Mitchell.
She was born in Cambridge on July 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Lawrence Croke and Catherine Tibbs.
Mrs. Mitchell was employed as a clerk at Sears in Cambridge for 20 years.
She was a member of St. John's Guild.
She is survived by three nephews, Larry Croke of Ashland, and John Coughlin and Donald Coughlin, both of Arlington; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Croke of Watertown.
She was also the sister of the late John Croke, Thomas Croke, Frederick Croke, Bridget Croke, Madeline Croke, Mary Coughlin, and Florence Winston.
A funeral Mass was celebrated April 14, at St. John's Church in Cambridge. Interment was in Cambridge Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge.
Arrangements were under the care of the Keefe Funeral Home, Cambridge.
Margaret A. Millican

WINCHESTER - Margaret A. Millican, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on May 31, 1917, in Arlington. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1935, and Boston University in 1940, with a bachelor's of arts degree in education, having done undergraduate work at Lesley College as well.
Miss Millican retired from a career of elementary school teaching in 1977 after 35 years, including experiences in Braintree, the Massachusetts Hospital School of Canton, and 24 years at the Mystic School in Winchester.
Miss Millican was a deacon for three years at the First Congregational Church of Winchester. She was actively involved in the church community where she directed the sewing group, ran Lenten luncheons, and worked for the annual church fair. She was a Friend of Winchester Hospital volunteer for many years and chairman of service there.
She is survived by a brother, Leonard Millican, of Sun City, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Judith MB Collier, of Jaffrey, NH.; nine nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Robert G. Millican and Louise M. Campbell of Boulder, Colo.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Congregational Church in Winchester.
