Kathleen M. Sullivan, Ties to Beverly

Kathleen M. Sullivan, 53, of Ipswich, died Sept. 21 in her home following her sudden illness.
Born in Lynn, April 25, 1947, she was the only child of the late James S. and Margaret (Downing) Sullivan.
She was a 1965 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lynn. She went on to receive her undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1969 and her masters of education from Suffolk University. Following graduation she went to work for the town of Danvers, where she had been employed for the past 31 years as an elementary school teacher. She currently taught at the Highland Elementary School in Danvers.
She is survived by an aunt, Catherine Bartlett of Beverly; her cousins Mary Joyce of Wakefield, Christopher Joyce of Swampscott, Barbara Carlton of Lynn, Ellen Stacey of Beverly, Thomas Bartlett of Beverly, James Bartlett and William Bartlett, both of Danvers and several cousin in Maryland and California. She was also survived by many close and loving friends.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 25 from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Richards Church in Danvers. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Lynn.

Marguerite M. Schwartz, Active church member

Marguerite M. (Hartigan) Schwartz, 86, of Beverly, died Sept. 20 at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Schwartz.
Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marguerite (McGeary) Hartigan, she was raised and educated in Revere where she lived most of her life moving to Beverly 14 years ago.
Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Beachmont Senior Citizens. She was very active at Our Lady of Lords Parish in Revere for many years and recently became a communicant and a member of the sodality at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Beverly. She was also a member of the Beverly Senior Citizens. Mrs. Schwartz vas very dedicated to her family and friends. She was very proud of all of the accomplishments in life. She was a care giver to all.
Surviving her are three sons; Edward Schwartz of New Hampshire, Paul Schwartz of Beverly, and Daniel Schwartz of Revere; four daughters; Marguerite Faulkner and Barbara Christina both of Beverly. Rita DeRosa of Everett, and Arlene Long of Saugus; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Arthur, Stanley, and Alexander Hartigan.
The funeral was held from the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly on Sept. 23, followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, in Beverly.

Richard Mullen, Graduate of Boston Latin

Richard Mullen, 65, of Beverly, died Sept. 22 at his home. He was the husband of June B. (Saltmarsh) Mullen.
He was born in Boston, the son of the late Edward B. and Lillian (O'Hara) Mullen. Mr. Mullen was a graduate of Boston Latin High School, Class of 1953. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Sears & Roebuck Company for 25 years.
In addition to his wife, he is surivived by three sons, Richard of Derry, NH, Paul F. of Vista, CA, and Andrew C. Mullen of Haverhill; three daughters, Veronica E. Weese of Ipswich, Laura Y. Flynn of Lynn and Rosalind Mullen of Danvers; a brother, Robert of Boston and a sister, Florence DiZio of Milton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and was brother to the late Edward M. Mullen.
His funeral service was private. Arrangements were by the Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home of Beverly.

Roderick E. Lewis, First Baptist Church member

Roderick E. Lewis, 89, husband of Pauline R. (Ouimette) Lewis of Beverly, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Beverly Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Beverly, Mr. Lewis was born in Beverly Nov. 30, 1910, the son of the late Exford M. and Mae (Macauley) Lewis. He attended Beverly High School and worked at General Electric Company in Lynn. He later worked at Hawthorne Tanning Co. in Salem for 30 years, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the AARP and the First Baptist church in Beverly, where he and Mrs. Lewis were married March 28, 1937.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lewis leaves four sons, Roderick E. Lewis Jr. of Waltham, Ralph E. Lewis and his wife, Dorothy, of Beverly, Richard E. Lewis and his wife, Oveada, of Beverly, and Roger E. Lewis and his wife, Celeste, of Acton, ME; two brothers, Wesley J. Lewis of Beverly and Robert Lewis of Annapolis, MD. He was also the brother of the late Murray R. Lewis, formerly of Indiana, and Charles Lewis, formerly of Peabody. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 29, from the Bick and Curry Funeral Home, 43 Bow St., Beverly, followed by interment in the North Beverly Cemetery.
Evelyn C. Alves, Worked for General Electric

Evelyn C. (Turner) Alves, 83, of Beverly, died Sept. 16 in the Blueberry Hill Healthcare Facility. She was the wife of the late William Lincoln and George Alves.
Mrs. Alves was born in Beverly, daughter of the late Charles B. and Blanche (Gerrish) Turner. She was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1935 and Chandler College, Class of 1937.
Mrs. Alves was employed for many years as a secretary at the General Electric Co. in Lynn and late as a secretary for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover.
She was a member of the Diana Chapter, 101 OES and was an active member of the Dane Street Congregational Church. Mrs. Alves was an avid fisherman and had a great love for the outdoors.
Mrs. Alves is survived by a brother Harold G. Turner of Beverly and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20 in the Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home of Beverly. Burial was in the Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill.
Harley William Waite

Harley William Waite, 82, died, Sept. 8 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was the husband of Zetta (Gilman) Waite.
He was born June 2, 1918 in Benson, Vermont, the son of the late William and Babette Stott Waite.
He moved to Malden in 1949, where he lived for the next 30 years. During this time, he worked for Sim Core Product and American Aluminum in Malden as a machinist and glass-blower. He went on to work at Charles River Park in Boston, performing building maintenance. He left Malden to move to Saugus, where he stayed. He was an active member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Lynnfield.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Harley W. Waite Jr. of Beverly, Robert A. Waite of Danvers and Carl A. Waite of Malden; his daughter Janet M. Twombley of Melrose and his sister Gladys Barden of Pittsfield.
He was the brother of the late Grace Christian, John Waite, and Lillian Baker.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. Arrangements are by the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home.
Jessie L. Bradbury, Native of Newfoundland

Jessie L. (Strong) Bradbury, 94, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, died on Sept. 6 at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Samuel Bradbury.
Mrs. Bradbury was born in Newfoundland, the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Strong. She was a resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea for many years and was a member of the First Parish Church, Congregational, in Manchester, Amaral-Bailey Post No. 113 Auxiliary, American Legion, Liberty Rebekah Lodge, and the Church Quilting Group.
Mrs. Bradbury is survived by: a daughter, Florence A. Perkins of Wenham; two sons, Charles H. of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Elias Bradbury of Beverly; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Marjorie Littlejohn of Chelsea, Evelyn Baker of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Suzie Smith of Newfoundland, and a brother, Morley Button of Newfoundland. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 9 in the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home of Beverly. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Richard E. Stowell, World War II veteran

Richard E. Stowell, 87, of Beverly, died Sept. 16 at the Beverly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was the husband of Lois (Edwards) Stowell.
Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Evens) Stowell. He was raised and educated in Revere. During his young adulthood he was a resident of Salem for 20 years and has been a resident of Beverly for the past 53 years.
Mr. Stowell served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a staff sergeant when he was discharged.
Mr. Stowell was employed with United Finish Company for 34 years. He worked as a mechanic for the company and retired in 1976. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are: two daughters, Lillian Stowell of Beverly, Mary Knowlton of Newton, N.H.; four grandchildren, Cheryl Knowlton of Amesbury, Robert Jr. and Brian Knowlton both of Hampton, N.H., Dawn Marie Mater of Sandown, N.H., and several nieces and nephews.
He wary also the brother of the late Doris French, Lillian F. Stowell, and Marion Burns.
The funeral was held from the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly on Sept. 20 followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Burial was in the North Beverly Cemetery.

Therese V. Verrette, Worked at Henry's Market

Therese V. (Lemay) Verrette, 73, of Beverly, died Sept. 14 at the Beverly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Paul Verrette,
Born in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (DesFosses) Lemay. She was raised and educated in Manchester, N.H.
She was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School in Manchester, N.H. in the Class of 1940. She had lived in Beverly since 1955.
Mrs. Verrette was employed with Henry's Market in the bakery department for over 10 years. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church's choir for many years. She enjoyed line dancing and playing the organ.
Surviving her are: one daughter and son-in-law, Landy and Paul Labonte of Bedford, N.H.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Cheryl Verrett of Beverly, Ronald and Diane Verrette of Haverhill, and Marc and Joanne Verrett of Saugus; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was one of 11 children and survived by two sisters, Loretta Martel of Manchester, N.H. and Violet Chauvin of Fitchburg.
Funeral services were held from the Campbell Funeral Home of Beverly on Sept. 18, followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Beverly.
