Barbara A. Mountain, 77, Chaired 'Servicemen's Chest' during WWII

Barbara A. (Dagle) Mountain, 77, of Wenham, wife of Gerald Mountain died July 5, 2000 at Beverly Hospital. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Russell and May (Williams) Dagle. She was raised and educated in Gloucester and had been a resident of Enon Village in Wenham for the past 11 years.
During World War II, Mrs. Mountain was the chairman of the Servicemen's Chest in Gloucester. She conducted shows that included dancing and singing to entertain servicemen.
Mrs. Mountain was involved in many activities at Enon Village during the past 11 years. She was very devoted and involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of the accomplishments in their lives.
In addition to her husband, with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage, she is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerald and Diane Mountain of Loudon, Tenn. and Timothy Mountain of Beverly; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Roland Smith of Danvers; one brother, Neal Dagle of Gloucester; two sisters, Mary Falk and Geraldine Kippen, both of Gloucester; five grandchildren, Kimberley Ryan of Knoxville, Tenn., Michele Morrow of Phoenix, Ariz., Jamieson Smith of Durham, N.C., and Carrie Smith and Michael Smith, both of Danvers; two great-grandchildren, Sean Ryan of Knoxville, Tenn. and Madeline Morrow of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Russell Dagle, James Dagle and Judith Dagle, Jean Reilly and Catherine Muise.
Her funeral Mass was celebrated on July 10 at the Church of St. Paul, Hamilton. Burial was in Wenham Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Campbell Funeral Home, Beverly.
David Nelson Jr., 97

David Nelson Jr., 97, of Beverly, husband of the late Ruth L. (Lovett) Nelson, died July 6, 2000 at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Nelson was born in Hamilton, the son of the late David and Margaret Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was employed as chief engineer for the Mobil Oil Co. in New York for more than 30 years, having retired in 1974. He served for more than 30 years in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Liberty Lodge AF & AM, the Marine Square Club of New York and the Wenham Golf Club.
Mr. Nelson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott W. and Suzanne Nelson of North Andover, Peter M. and Meg Nelson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; two grandchildren, Kristin and David Nelson; a brother, Donald Nelson, of Lynnfield; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service was held July 8 in the Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home, Beverly. Burial was in the Central Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. Carleton, 83, Retired accountant, artist

Elizabeth A. "Bette" (Nicoll) Carleton, 83, of Salem, N.H., died July 4, 2000 at the Baker Katz Nursing Home in Haverhill after a long illness. She was the wife of the late George T. "Tom" Carleton.
Mrs. Carleton was born in Beverly, the daughter of the late David and Helen Rebecca Nicoll. She was a graduate of Beverly High School and Merrimack College. She was a retired accountant and was an artist, well known for her oil and watercolor paintings. She was a resident of Salem, N.H. for many years and was a member of many clubs and activities throughout her life.
Mrs. Carleton is survived by her sister, Ruth N. Crockett, of Auburn, Maine; a niece, Caroline C. Kile, of Leesburg, Va.; several cousins, and her best friends, Dick and Margaret Covey of Salem, N.H.
Elmer L. Naugler, World War II veteran

Elmer L. Naugler, of Beverly, husband of 57 years to Pauline V. (Churchley) Naugler, died on July 10 in his home after a long illness, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston, the son of the late Walter and Hazel (Bent) Naugler. He was a graduate of Beverly High School Class of 1937. He was a veteran of World War II. having served with the RAF in England and later transferring to the 8th Air Force.
Mr. Naugler was associated with Almy Bigelow & Washburn prior to becoming president of the S&N Oil Corporation in Beverly in 1962 until his retirement in 1986.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Peter D. Naugler, Jeffrey and Deborah Naugler, Ted E. and Sherry Naugler all of Beverly; three brothers, Dr. Walter Naugler of Olymia Wash., Ted Naugler of Hamilton and Winston Naugler of Wayland; a sister, Dorothy Osborn of Wenham; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held today, July 13, in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Ocean Street, Beverly, at 11:30 a.m. There were no visiting hours. Arrangements were by the Lee, Moody & Russell Funeral Home, Beverly.

Emile J. LeBlanc, 84, Longtime Franco American Club member

Emile J. LeBlanc, 84, of Beverly, husband of Dora M. L. LeBlanc, to whom he had been married for 63 years, died July 9 in the Masconomet Health Care Center in Topsfield.
He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, son of the late John and Beatrice (Melanson) LeBlanc. Following his education, Mr. LeBlanc was employed for more than 40 years in the shipping department at the former Leach and Heckle Leather Company. Following his retirement from that company, he worked at Henry's Market in Beverly for 14 years until retiring in 1997.
Mr. LeBlanc was active in the Franco American Club in Beverly for the past 63 years. In addition to being a charter member of the Park Street location, he was former president, sergeant at arms treasurer, a member of the board of directors and a trustee. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, and he served on the committee of the St. Mary's Drum and Bugle Corps.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Polly LeBlanc of Beverly; a daughter, Rita D. Geary of Beverly; three brothers, Desire LeBlanc of Danvers, Oliver LeBlanc of Peabody and Albert LeBlanc of Salem; two sisters, Doris Dione of Bradford and Terry Morin of Salem; six grandchildren, Terry Russo of Beverly, Paul Geary of Beverly, Traci Celluffo of Danvers, Darrin Geary, Shellie Fisher and Amy LeBlanc all of Beverly; six great-grandchildren, Gina and Jennifer Geary, Taila and Joseph Russo, all of Beverly, and Anthony and Michael Celluffo of Danvers and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ted Le Blanc and Victor LeBlanc.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 12, at the Bick and Curry Funeral Home, Beverly, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Alphonse's Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.

Ethel Louise Turenne, 87, Retired registered nurse

Mrs. Ethel Louise (MacMurray) Turenne, 87, formerly of Danvers, died June 6, 2000 in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem.
A retired registered nurse, she was wife of the late Joseph R. Turenne.
She was born in Beverly, daughter of the late William and Louisa (Gibbs) MacMurray. She was a graduate of Story High School in Manchester-by-the-Sea and earned her nursing degree from Beverly Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Turenne worked as a public health nurse for the City of Beverly Health Department for 27 years until her retirement.
She was actively involved in the North Shore Elder Services and was a former secretary for the Friends of Danvers Council of Aging. A longstanding member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers, she was active in their choir and Woman's Society. She was also a member of the Danvers Historical Society.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William Joseph and Deborah Emerson Turenne of Virginia; three grandchildren, Michelle E. Turenne of Morrisville, N.C., Elizabeth A. Turenne of Washington, D.C. and William J. Turenne Jr. of Alexander, Va.; two nieces, E. Gretchen Baxter-Walker of Reston, Va. and Anita Muensterman of Louisville, Ky.; and one nephew, Robert A. Baxter of Virginia.
She was also the sister of the late Jesse (MacMurray) Readmon and Rosamond (MacMurray) Baxter.
Her funeral service was held June 9 in the Maple Street Congregational Church, Danvers. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. The Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Danvers, assisted the family with the arrangements. M. Claire Hart, 90, Devoted homemaker

M. Claire (Sullivan) Hart, 90, of Beverly, the wife of the late Roderick P. Hart, died July 4, 2000 at Beverly Hospital. She was born in Plainfield, Conn., the daughter of the late Daniel and Abbie (Shea) Sullivan.
She was raised in Pawtucket, R.I. and was a graduate of Pawtucket High School, Class of 1923. Mrs. Hart was a homemaker and cared for her family with love and devotion.
Mrs. Hart had lived in Salem for 11 years and Beverly for the past 22 years. She was a member of our Lady Sodality and the Altar Guild of St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. Mrs. Hart had many interests but most especially she loved reading, keeping up with current events, and Irish music, and she had a very dry sense of humor.
Surviving her are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kevin Hart of Beverly and Roderick and Peggy Hart of Austin, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Claire-Marie Hart of Beverly and Maureen and John Keizer of Brimfield; four grandchildren, Christopher Hart of Dallas, Texas, Kathleen Hart of Nashville, Tenn., Kaileigh and James Keizer of Brimfield, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late D. Edward and James and Dorothy Sullivan,
The funeral was held July 8 from the Campbell Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beverly. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Beverly.

Richard F. McGuire, 81, Played in Coast Guard Band

Richard F. McGuire, 81, of Beverly, husband of the late Anne (Werkin) McGuire died July 6 at Beverly Hospital. He was born in Streateor, Ill., the son of the late James and Frances (Poppe) McGuire. Raised in Illinois, he was a resident of Beverly for more than 45 years.
Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and achieved the rank of musician, second class. He played tuba in a Coast Guard Band and was first chair in the 52-piece band.
Mr. McGuire was employed as an adjuster by Hardware Mutual, which became Sentry Insurance, for more than 40 years and retired in 1984.
His passion in life was his music. He played bass fiddle in a four-man combo on the North Shore. Upon his retirement from music in the early 1980s, his bass fiddle was donated to the Beverly High School Band.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church from its inception, a longtime member of the Beverly YMCA Sterling Center and also the Wenham Country Club.
Surviving him are one son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Lucretia McGuire of Clinton, Md.; one son-in-law, John Hart of Abington; four grandchildren, Scott and Jennifer McGuire of Waldorf, Md., Carolyn Hart of Yspilanti, Mich., and Julie Hart of Beverly; and one great-grandchild, Kionna Collier of Waldorf, Md.
He was the father of the late Kathleen Hart and brother of the late James McGuire.
A memorial Mass was celebrated July 11 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beverly.

Beatrice Deslauriers, Long-time Beverly resident

Beatrice (Stewart) Deslauriers, 76, of Beverly, wife of the late Norman R. Deslauriers, died on Sunday, July 1 at her home.
Mrs. Deslauriers was born in Skinner, Maine, the daughter of the late Alexander D. and Mary Ann (Macdearmid) Stewart.
Mrs. Deslauriers was a resident of Beverly for most of her life and was a graduate of Beverly High School. She was a member of the first Baptist Church, in Beverly, the Herman A. Spear Post 331 Auxiliary, and for several years worked at the former Borah's Store in Beverly.
Mrs. Deslauriers is survived by her brother, Alexander R. Stewart, of Beverly.
Private funeral services will be held. Arrangements by the Lee, Moody and Russell Funeral Home, Beverly.
