MYRTLE R. (DOLAN) BUTLER , age 97, died on Wednesday, Dec. 12th at the Cohasset Knoll Nursing in Cohasset. Mrs. Butler was born in Boston and lived her entire life in the West Corner section of Hingham. She was a graduate of Hingham High School and attended Salem Teacher's College. She was an active member of the altar guild and sodality of the former St. Mary of Assumption Church and St. Ann's Church both in Hull.
Mrs. Butler was a cafeteria worker in the Hingham Public School system for 30 years, retiring in 1975.
Wife of the late Conrad V. Butler, she is survived by her son, Conrad V. Butler, Jr. of Hingham. Aunt of John H. Dolan, George F. Dolan, Rein DeYoung, Natalie Hines and Grace Bartlett. Also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 17th at 9 AM at St. Ann's Church, corner of Lewis St. & Samoset Ave., Hull.
Visiting hours at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 PM only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Mary's Building Fund, P.O. Box 565, Hull, MA 02045.
Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Hingham.

ELIZABETH T. (HARDING) RUSSELL, age 89, a Hingham resident for over 50 years, died in Truro at the home of her daughter, Gail Stevenson on Tuesday, July 30th. Born in Quincy, Mrs. Russell graduated from the Woodward School in Quincy and the Kickox Secretarial School in Boston. During World War II she was a cost analyst at the Quincy Shipyard. She was a member of the Hingham Women's Club, serving as its president from 1963-1965. Mrs. Russell also was a winter resident of St. Petersburg, FL.
Wife of the late Leon B. Russell, she is survived by her daughter, Gail Stevenson of Truro and St. Petersburg, FL. Step-mother of Leon B. Russell, Jr. of Leonardtown, MD and the late Arthur R. Russell. Aunt of Myron Fuller of Brockton and the late Jane Fuller Craig. Sister of the late Dorothy Trower. Also survived by several grandnieces and grand-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, August 5th at 11:30 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Truro Rescue Squad, Truro, MA 02666.
The interment in the High Street Cemetery in Hingham is to be private.

EDWARD M. (TED) GUILD , age 80, of Cohasset, formerly of Hingham, died at his home in Cohasset on Thursday, Oct. 10th after a brief illness. Born in Boston, Mr. Guild attended Derby Academy in Hingham and was a graduate of Exeter Academy and Harvard College, Class of 1944. He was captain of the Harvard Wrestling Team and a member of the Fly Club. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific with the 3rd Fleet as navigator of a destroyer participating in the Phillipines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa Campaigns. In 1955 he joined Ionics, Inc. of Watertown, a firm specializing in water desalination, where he served as a Vice President in charge of International Sales until his retirement. A major portion of his time was spent in the Middle East. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Hampshire and served as their long time treasurer.
Mr. Guild was an elected member of the Cohasset Sewer Commission for 17 years, serving as chairman for 10 years.
Husband of Juliette (Day) Guild of Cohasset, he leaves 3 sons; Edward M. "Ned" Guild of Hingham, Thomas S. Guild of Belmont, Warner D. Guild of Hopkinton and a daughter, Juliette G. Reid of Brookline. Brother of William Guild of Pemberton. Also survived by 7 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 17th at 3 PM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Church of St. John the Evangelist or to Hospice of the South Shore, P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060.
The interment is to be private.

CHESTER W. MAGEE, JR., age 69, of Bonita Springs, FL., formerly of Weymouth and Cohasset, died on Monday, Oc. 7th at his home in Bonita Springs after a brief illness.
Mr. Magee was born in Weymouth and attended Weymouth Schools. In 1942 at age 10 he became a member of the U.S. Army Aircraft Warning System, the youngest certified observer in the country. He then was a Korean War naval veteran, serving on three different destroyers during his tour of duty. After the war, at age 23, he worked over the years for D.S. Kennedy Co. of Cohasset, then with Accurate Fasteners, Inc. of Boston, E. G. & G. of Burlington, Albany Products of Norwalk, CT and All-Stainless, Inc. of Hingham. In 1965 he founded Magee's Sales & Service of Cohasset, an outdoor power equipment company of which he was the proprietor until his retirement in 1992.
He retired to Bonita Springs in 1994.
Father of Barry Magee of Hull, he also leaves 4 grandchildren; Barry Magee Jr., Jennifer A. Magee, Dawn E. Magee and Russell E. Magee all of Brandon, VT and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 19th at 2 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, corner of Elm & Pine Sts., South Weymouth.
Visiting hours are omitted by request.

MARY ELIZABETH (DAVIS) HALNAN, age 86, of Hingham, died on July 24th, 2002 at the Harbor House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hingham after a long illness. Born in Natick, Mrs. Halnan lived most of her life in Hingham, graduating from Hingham High School in 1933. Although she lived in both Maine and Florida, she always came back to her beloved Hingham. Betty called Nini by some, GG by others was a secretary at Hingham Business Machines for 9 years during the 1960's
Wife of the late Richard F. Halnan and the late John L. Kroesser; she was the mother of Margaret A. Roberts of Weymouth, John L. Kroesser of Hawkinsville, GA, Karen K. Plumley of Williamsburg, VA, Barbara Cartmill Araujo of East Walpole, MA, Robert E. Kroesser of Laurens, SC and Kenneth D. Kroesser of Durham, Maine. Step-mother of Mary McKinney of Weymouth. Sister of John T. Davis of Norwell, Margaret Wegner of San Clemente, CA and Stanley Field of Mashpee. Also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 24th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be appreciated to the Alzheimers Association, 36 Cameron St., Cambridge, MA 02140.
The interment is to be private.

MAUDE P. (SYLVESTER) MUNCY, age 91, of Hull, died on Saturday, Dec. 7th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Mrs. Muncy was born in Boston and was a lifelong resident of the Town of Hull. She was a graduate of Hingham High School.
She leaves her husband, Matthew J. Muncy of Hull and was the mother of David E. Muncy of Brockton, James M. Muncy and Carol Ann McWilliams both of Hull and
Jean M. Muncy of Braintree. Mrs. Muncy was predeceased by her brothers,
Richard Tierney and William Tierney. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 10th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Monday evening from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimers Association,
36 Cameron St., Cambridge, MA 02140.
Interment in Hull Cemetery.

CAROLINE (KEENE) HARRIS, age 95, of Cohasset, formerly of Hingham and Longboat Key, FL, died on Thursday, Nov. 28th at the Cohasset Knoll Nursing Home in Cohasset after a long illness. Mrs. Harris also had homes in Eastham, MA and Ticonderoga, NY.
Caroline, the daughter of the late Henry William Keene and the late Julia (Quincy) Keene was born on January 1, 1907 in Hingham, MA. She was educated at Derby Academy, Hingham; Hingham High School, Class of 1924; and Radcliffe College, Class of 1928.
Mrs. Harris was employed by the Boston Public Library in various branches from 1929 through 1935, the last three years as librarian of the Tyler Street Branch. In 1935 she married Carl Wilson Harris of Newton, MA. They lived in Halifax County, Virginia from 1935 to 1942; in Cheverly, MD from 1942-1944, and then in Hingham, MA from 1944 until December of 1970 when she and Mr. Harris retired and moved to Longboat Key, FL. She moved to Cohasset 2 years ago.
While in Hingham, Mrs. Harris raised five children and was a girl scout leader for 5 years, a substitute teacher in the Hingham Public Schools and a church school teacher at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Hingham, a founder of the Hingham Chapter of the American Field Service (AFS) and the first Hingham host mother of an AFS foreign student. From 1956 through 1970 she was a librarian at the Tufts Library in Weymouth, MA.
While a resident of Longboat Key, FL, Mrs. Harris was active as a member of All Angels by the Sea Church and the Longboat Key Garden Club. She was a continuing member of The Church of St. John the Evangelist Church in Hingham, The Hingham Historical Society, the Blue Hills Council of the Girl Scouts of America, the American Contract Bridge League, The Mayflower Society, The Radcliffe Alumnae Association, and the RSCM Employees Association of Mass.
Her husband, Carl W. Harris predeceased her in 1978. She was the mother of Julia Porter of Mystic, CT, Caroline Baldwin of Silver City, NM, Carl W. Harris, Jr. and Lydia Harris both of Hingham and Susan Larson of Crystal Lake, IL. Also survived by 12 grand-children and 4 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by them all.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 2 PM at the Church of
St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimers Disease Support Group of the South Shore (ADSGSS), P.O. Box 109, Hingham, MA 02043.
The interment is to be private.

ELIZABETH (MORSE) THOMAS, age 85, a Hingham resident for the past 60 years, died on Sunday, Dec.1st at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness. Born in Leominster, MA, Mrs. Thomas spent her early life in Worcester and was a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She was a teacher by profession and taught 6th grade science in the Hanover school system for many years. She was a longtime member of the Second Parish Church of Hingham.
She was the wife of John R. Thomas of Hingham and mother of Susan Tyler Nitze of New York City and Nancy Mitchell Tyler of Albany, CA. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, Dec. 8th at 3 PM at the Second Parish Church, 685 Main St., (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Second Parish Church.
The interment is to be private.

DOUGLAS RAMSAY, 72, a lifelong resident of Hingham, died on Tuesday, April 1st at the Harbor House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hingham after a long illness. Born in Cohasset, Mr. Ramsay graduated from Hingham High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. For 35 years he was associated with the Hingham Water Department, retiring in 1992 as a foreman. Mr. Ramsay was a member of the Edward Ball Cole American Legion Post in Hingham and the Weymouth Elks.
Husband of the late Marjorie A. (McArthur) Ramsay, he leaves two daughters; Linda A. Ramsay of New Milford, CT and Jean E. Garrity of Hingham, and two grandchildren; Jay and Joey Garrity both of Hingham.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, April 4th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Visiting hours at the Downing Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Suite 301, Brockton, MA 02401.
Interment will be in the Hingham Cemetery.

CAROLE (MURPHY) ELLIS, age 61, a Hingham resident for over 30 years, died on Saturday, May 31st at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long illness. Born in Melrose, Mrs. Ellis was raised and educated in Stoneham and was a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She was a longtime volunteer at South Shore Hospital, worked in customer service for the retail clothing industry, and for the past 2 years worked at Allerton House in Hingham.
Wife of the late Richard B. Ellis, she leaves two sons; Mark R. Ellis of Rockland and Craig R. Ellis of Sharon, a brother, Richard J. Murphy of Cataumet and two grandchildren; Lindsey and Michael Ellis both of Rockland.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Visiting hours at the Downing Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Suite 301, Brockton, MA 02401.
The interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hingham.

THELMA M. (MARCHL) HUMPHREY, age 90, a Hingham resident for over 50 years, died on Friday, May 30th at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Mrs. Humphrey was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and attended Temple University also in Pennsylvania .
She and her late husband, George N. Humphrey were active in the Cohasset Community Theater and she was formerly associated with Hobbs Studio in East Weymouth.
She was the mother of Linda Lee Comacho-Cordero of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and Barry S. Humphrey of Hingham. Grandmother of Christine A. Humphrey, Melissa Humphrey and Jeffrey A. Humphrey all of Hingham.
The funeral services and interment are to be private. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of choice.
