Melbourne S. "Bud" Jones Jr., 89, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011. He was formerly of Brockton, Mass., where he was a firefighter for 30 years. Melbourne was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines Corps. He was an active member of St. George Lodge AF&AM, VFW Post 1046 and Retired State County Municipal Employees Association. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Jones; children, Michael Jones and Betty Jones Young; grandchildren, Michael Jones Jr., Julie Young and Joshua Young; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Young and Ella Young; a brother, Gordon Jones of East Bridgewater, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Russell Jones and Robert Jones; and his sister, Viola Jones. A memorial visiting hour will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, 12-1 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, with a memorial service at 1 p.m.
Lillian A. (Mackie) Howes, 89, of Brockton, died August 9, 2011. Raised in Stoughton, she graduated from Stoughton High School as class Valedictorian and Vice President. She served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Lillian earned a degree from Boston University’s Sargent College and was a physical therapist. She was the physical therapist supervisor at both the Lutheran and Blue Hills nursing homes. An avid supporter and participant in New England Cardiovascular Health Institute, she was active in early Pritikin diet studies. In the 1960s Lillian volunteered at the YMCA Fitness Program with her husband. She was a member of the Central Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed dancing, golfing, gardening, macramé, crafts and traveling cross country by RV with her husband, sister and brother-in-law. Lillian was the wife of her high school sweetheart, the late Bernard H. Howes DMD; beloved mother of Cindy L. Drost of Canton, Bernard H. Howes Jr. of NH, Steven R. Howes of Brockton and Laurel A. Katharine M. (Parise) Byers, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died August 3, 2011. Born, raised and educated in Brockton, she was employed in the local garment industry. Katharine also worked at Fannie Farmer and in the fitting room at Marshall’s at Westgate Mall prior to retirement. She enjoyed cooking Italian, car drives, dining out and traveling. Katharine was the beloved wife of Edward E. Byers for close to 56 years, loving mother of Edward E. Byers Jr. and his wife Cynthia (Mackedon) Byers of Easton, dear sister of Margarita Parise and Sam Parise, both of Brockton and the late Elizabeth Francis and an aunt of several. John Kimbrough, 80, of East Taunton, died July 23, 2011. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service. John was the husband of Edith (Harvey) Kimbrough; father of Robin Kimbrough of Bridgewater, Brenda Bowler of Boston and the late Cynthia Rademann; grandfather of Melissa Rademann; brother of Mary Alice Mathis of Detroit, MI and the late Frances Jenkins, Anna Olivia Kimbrough and William Kimbrough; he leaves cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. James E. Sousa, passed away July 2, from a heart attack in Las Vegas. He was born in Boston to Joseph Sousa and the late Lee Sousa. He graduated from Brockton High School, attended hairdressing school then joined friends, Glen Williams and Charlie Vitale in the fashion business in Los Angeles. He did stand up comedy before moving to Las Vegas, where he became an internet entrepreneur and professional gambler, placing 3rd in the World Series Poker Tournament. Jim loved playing pool and caring for his dogs, Metro, who is deceased, and Hershey, his walking companion. He leaves behind his brothers, Jack and Jerry, their wives, Nancy and Kim; his sisters, Deidre, Ana, Terry and her husband Joe Cellucci, Jennifer and her husband, Ernie Branco; and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Jeff, predeceased him. He leaves friends, Mary Hendrickson, Randy Wuske, Jill Adams and many more who will miss his humor, loyalty and generosity. Services are private. Robert F. Scott Jr., 63, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died July 26, 2011. He worked for the court system in Plymouth County for 31 years. Robert loved fishing and camping and collected trains and sports cards. He was a caring person and was affectionately known as “Uncle B” to many. Robert was the son of the late Robert F. Scott Sr. and Helen E. (Cruz) Scott; beloved brother of Debra Walker Scott and her husband Kevin Walker of Brockton; loving uncle of Lynrose Robles Scott of Brockton, Greggory E. Susan Ellen Lighter, 43, of West Bridgewater, died July 24, 2011. A native of Brockton, she resided in Florida for 14 years. Susan delivered the Brockton Enterprise newspaper for many years and also worked at various carnivals. She loved children and was an avid Boston Bruins fan and cherished all of the friendships that she made online and over the years. Mark S. Conrad, 42, of Brockton, passed away July 14, 2011. Our beloved Mark is now at peace. Marion M. (Stoltz) Conrad, 92, of Brockton, passed away July 21, 2011. Raised in Randolph, she was a daughter of the late Dewey and Viola (Teed) Stoltz and resided in Brockton most of her life. Years ago she worked holiday seasons at Edgar’s and Almy’s and was retired from cafeteria work at Brockton Public Schools. She enjoyed traveling, line dancing, bowling, crocheting and macramé and was a member of Eastern Star. Marion was the wife of the late Harry S. Julia A. (Urban) Deeley,81, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died unexpectedly July 15, 2011. She was employed for the past 35 years as a bookkeeper at F.H. Peterson Machine Corp. in Stoughton until her sudden passing on Friday. Julia’s family was her pride and joy. She loved family summers on Cape Cod and winters in Florida. Julia had many hobbies during her long life. Gardening, shopping, quahoging, playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets and her Lithuanian heritage were among her favorite pasttimes. She was also an avid New England sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Patriots play. Preston S. “Prett” Noel Jr., 69, of Carver, died May 9, 2011. Son of the late Preston and Virginia (Grindell) Noel, he was a lifelong resident of Brockton until moving to Carver 8 years ago. Preston served many years as a K9 officer for the Brockton Police until his retirement. He also ran Prett’s Auto Sales at 703 North Main St. in Brockton and enjoyed restoring and detailing old cars. His love for automobiles led his passion for collecting diecast and Nascar memorabilia. He enjoyed family camping trips, wintering in Clearwater, Florida and was always on the lookout for that “I just can’t pass it up” deal. He will be sadly missed by family and friends including his beloved wife Elaine of 48 years, daughters Lisa Riley and her husband Joseph of Maine and Kim Novak-Luongo and her husband Paul Luongo of Avon, grandchildren Risto Smith, Joseph Jr., Megan, Autumn, Holly and Preston Riley, Brittany Novak, Paul Luongo and great-granddaughter Destiny Riley and his late grandson Steven Smith. Paula A. Gomes, 43, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died August 25, 2010. Paula enjoyed being a mother and wife and loved spending time with her family, especially at family cookouts. Doreen A. (Augelli) Quaglia, 51, of Brockton, died December 29, 2009. A native of Roslindale and Hyde Park, she resided in Brockton for the past 20 years. She graduated from Quincy College, Phi Beta Theta with honors, with an A.B. in Paralegal Studies, in 1988. Doreen was employed as a health inspector for 15 years for the Brockton Board of Health and was named “Brockton’s Woman of The Year” in 2001. An advocate for autistic children, she was also engaged in charitable activities such as Secret Santa. Doreen was the daughter of Marilyn Augelli of Hyde Park and the late Douglas Augelli, beloved wife of Atty. Liza E. (Heffernan) Martens, 50, of Brockton, died Dec. 3, 2009 after a courageous seven-year battle with breast cancer. Raised in Avon, daughter of the late Herbert and Anne (Sandsbury) Heffernan, she graduated from Brockton High School in 1977 and was employed in customer service for Graphic Productions in Rockland and at I-Pac in Quincy. Liza’s courage was an inspiration to many. Vincent “Vinny” F. Froio, 66, of Brockton, native of Chelsea and a Vietnam era Army veteran, died Feb. 15, 2009 peacefully surrounded by family. He was a BAT bus driver for many years, a supervisor in security at Chatham West and Pine Estates and also a retired Whitman Auxiliary police officer. As an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed following the New England Patriots. Michele J. “Mickey” Hadges , 49, of Sandwich, formerly of Brockton, died Oct. 26, 2008 after a brief illness. A 1977 graduate of Brockton High School, Mickey worked locally in the food and beverage industry for over 25 years. Mickey loved to shop, garden, birdwatch, spend time with her dog Loco, explore Cape Cod natural history and go to the beach. She was the loving daughter of Winifred Hadges of Brockton and the late James Hadges, beloved sister of Christina Hadges of Raynham, Lauren Doyle and Dena Hadges-Duarte, loving aunt of Sophie Doyle and Alexander and Nicholas Duarte, all of Brockton, sister-in-law of Thomas Doyle and the late Richard Duarte. Fredette, Shirley Anne (Moody)
Fredette, Shirley Anne (Moody), 82, of Harwich, died peacefully on August 26, 2010, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel, her twin sister Virginia, and her beloved daughter Kathleen.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, James Fredette of Harwich, her children Sandra Fredette, Steven and Doreen Fredette and Michelle Fredette, and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Fredette raised her family in Athol, MA where she contributed to many community organizations. She was renown as a singer and comedienne with the Ozark Sweethearts, a troupe formed with fellow members of the Athol High School Class of 1946. After relocating to Cape Cod, Mrs. Fredette was a member of the Walkie Talkie Chapter of the Red Hat Society of Harwich.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Route 28, West Harwich, MA.
Private burial services will be held on Thursday at Gethsemane Cemetery

Wadas, Frederick W., died on August 31, 2010 at his home in South Yarmouth at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of Mary O. (Veino) Wadas.
Mr. Wadas was born in Ludlow, MA and was a lifelong Yankee fan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and had worked for the Springfield Armory, General Electric and Advanced Manufacturing prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Catherine Plouffe and her husband, Donald, of Palmer, MA, one son Frederick W. Wadas Jr. of Hyannis, grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Plouffe and his beloved pets, Baxter and Felix.
A funeral will form at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth on Friday, September 3, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.
Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1:15 p.m.

Babcock, Evelyn M. (Hines), 88 of West Dennis and formerly of Bolton, died Friday Sept. 3, 2010, surrounded by her family at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the loving wife of Robert E. Babcock for 67 years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Babcock is survived by her sons, Kenneth and his wife, Marie of Mashpee, and Dennis and his wife, Patricia of Guilford, CT; her brothers, Richard Hines and his wife, Margaret of Clinton, Roger Hines and his wife, Shirley of Franklin, and Harold Hines (deceased), and her sister in-law, Corrine; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Babcock and his wife, Carola, Barbara Deatherage and her husband, Bill, Patrick Babcock and his wife, Jennifer, Katie Slater and her husband, Chris, John Babcock, Tim Babcock and his girlfriend, Karina Bernier, and Meghan Babcock; and seven great grandchildren, Kristen McGrath and her husband, Josh, Jack and Charlie Slater, Aidan, Connor, Cian and Gregory Babcock.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 8 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
McGuiness, Anne Isabelle (Quinn)
McGuiness, Anne Isabelle (Quinn), of West Yarmouth, died on Sept. 9, 2010. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. McGuiness and mother of Brian J. McGuiness of Naugatuck, CT. Mrs. McGuiness was born and raised in Norwich attending Norwich Schools. She was a graduate of the University of Connecticut and completed her Master’s Degree from Boston University School of Social Work. She taught at the Norwich Free School Academy for five years. Mrs. McGuiness worked for two years in the Welfare Department in Connecticut and then as a case worker, and later district secretary, at Catholic Family Service in New London. She completed her career as a school social worker in the New Britain School System for sixteen years before retiring to Cape Cod in 1980. She was a communicant of Holy Spirit Parish in Newington, CT, a member of the Emblem Club of the Elks and the Moose Lodge. In addition to her son, survivors include three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass and burial will take place in New Britain at a later date.
