At: First Church of the Nazarene, Lowell, MA
Iris Louise Cove, RN of Billerica, MA, peacefully went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 29, 2010.
Iris was born in Lowell, MA on March 25, 1926 to Amanda Barnard Cove. Iris’ father, Charles Howard Cove Sr. passed away before her birth.
A graduate of the Nashua Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1951, Iris went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Eastern Nazarene College in 1955, and went on to obtain her teaching certification through Salem State College.
Iris’ nursing career spawned many decades and many years were spent teaching others what it meant to be an excellent nurse. Iris taught at Greater Lowell Regional Vocational and Technical High School of Nursing, Andover West Junior High School, Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing, and Malden Hospital School of Nursing. In 1975, she became the Assistant Director of Nursing Education at Tewksbury Hospital. Teaching was her passion early on in her career.

Towards the end of her career, Iris performed private duty nursing care to patients in their homes. Most of these patients were young, and Iris cared for them lovingly as if they were her own.
Iris was the baby of the family. She leaves one sister, Nancy Newstetter, of Atlanta, Georgia. Although Iris never had children of her own, she was the epitome of what an aunt should be. She was fun loving and often the center of attention at family gatherings with her witty comments and backwards songs. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and a few great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews as well as one great-great-grand niece. Needless to say, Iris was loved by many, and she returned that love ten-fold. Iris was also a part of the loving community at Life Care Center of the Merrimack Valley in Billerica, where she had abundant friends and puzzle helpers, as well as caregivers that knew the true meaning of the word “care”.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles Howard Cove Sr. and Amanda Barnard Cove, as well as her three brothers, Charles Howard Jr. “Charlie”, Jack, and James Richard “Dick”. She was also pre-deceased by two nieces, Frannye Cove Crocker and Charlene Cove Russell.
