Arthur R. Devoe, 95
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Arthur R. Devoe, 95, of Grove St. died Sunday May 4, 2003 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Mildred G. (Jackson) Devoe and the late Thelma E. (Edmunds) Devoe.
Born May 15, 1907 in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Joseph and Minnie (Thurber) Devoe.
Mr. Devoe served as a Civil Defense Director during WWII. He was the Superintendant and Partner of
Bishop Co, No. Attleboro where he worked as an optician for many years.
He lived most of his life in No. Attleboro and was very acitve in the community. He served as a vestryman at the Grace Episcopal Church. He led the campaign that built Titus's Skating Rink, and was the Director for the building of the No. Attleboro Industrial Park, as well as the Director in the building of the World
War II Memorial Swimming Pool. He was a member of Bristol Lodge. He was acitve in Kiwanis, serving in high leadership positions. He was Director of the No. Attleboro Chamber of Commerce, as well as Executive Director of the Red Cross and the March of Dimes. He was also a founding member of the No. Attleboro Scholarship Committee.
Mr. Devoe is survived by 4 children, Jane Eastep of No. Attleboro, Makara of Plymouth, Neil Devoe of Tulsa, OK and Jule Devoe of Naco, AZ
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St., No. Attleboro on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Lance Giussrida officiated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Felecia B. Romano, 38
ATTLEBORO: Felecia B. Romano, 38, died Thursday,May 15, 2003 at home.
She worked as a manager at Cumberland Farms.
Born Aug. 20, 1964 in Boston, she was the daughter of Lorraine Saulnier of Attleboro and the late Dennis Saulnier.
She had been a resident of Attleboro for over 30 years and had also lived in North Attleboro for a few years.
She enjoyed shopping and arts and crafts.
Besides her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Alicia Estey of Attleboro; a son, Dennis Romano of Attleboro; two brothers, Gregory Hines of Attleboro and Brian Hines of New Hampshire; a grandmother, Elizabeth Devin of Dorchester; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro.
Raymond W. Merigold, 78
PLAINVILLE: Raymond W. Merigold, 78, of Taunton Street, a retired North Attleboro business owner, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at home. He was the widower of Ruth (Hazard) Merigold.
Born in Providence on June 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Earl and Lillian (Batchelder) Merigold. He had resided in Plainville since 1986, previously living in North Attleboro and Warwick, R.I.
Mr. Merigold was the owner of North Attleboro Supply Co. from 1969 until his retirement in 1986. He had previously worked for Franklin Hardware of North Attleboro. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a gunnery inspector and attaining the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Merigold was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church, working for many years in the food pantry. He had enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time with his children.
He is survived by four sons, Raymond Merigold Jr. of Plainville, William Merigold of Northport, Fla., Ronald Merigold of Attleboro, and David Merigold of Plainville; four daughters, Alene Perreault of North Attleboro, Deborah Roy of North Attleboro, Laurie Young of North Attleboro, and Sally Ferrini of Warwick, R.I.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro. Burial will take place in the Mount Hope Cemetery
and Arboretum, Attleboro Falls.

Harriet VanWely Vonderahe, 90
BOURNE: Harriet VanWely Vonderahe, 90, of Macarthur Blvd died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Bourne Manor Nursing Home. She was the widow of Alfred Vonderahe.
Born June 4, 1912 in Albany, NY, she was a daughter of the late Harry VanWely and Anna (Swears).

Bertha L. Gladding, 85
ATTLEBORO: Bertha L. Gladding, 85, of George Street died Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Ridgewood Court Nursing Home in Attleboro.
She was the wife of the late Raymond Gladding.
Born December 19, 1917 in Canada, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary LaVallee.

Virginia M. Berdahl, 70
DORCHESTER: Virginia M. Berdahl, 70, of Wellesley Park died Tuesday, May 6, 2003 in her home after a lengthy illness.
She was the widow of Robert Berdahl.
Born May 11, 1932 in Chelsea, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (DiDominico) Collari. Mrs. Berdahl was a longtime resident of Dorchester and member of St. Ambrose Parish. Survivors include four children, Joseph Mazurek, Cheryl Berdahl, Sharon Berdahl and Robert Berdahl all of Boston; and three grandsons.
Visiting was held on Thursday, May 8 from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral was held in McHoul Funeral Home on Friday, May 9, 2003 at 8 a.m. followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 10:15 a.m.

Walter B. Cavagnaro, 80
MELBOURNE, FL: Walter B. Cavagnaro, 80, of Bulldog Ave died Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Catalina Assisted Living Center in Melbourne, FL.
Born February 19, 1923 in Boston, he was a son of the late Walter B. and Estelle (Gottlieb) Cavagnaro.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy During World War II.
Cav was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge of Dorchester and past district grand secretary of the Roxbury 4th Masonic district. In addition, hew as a member of the vestry at All Saints Episcopal Church in Ashmont.
Cav loved spending the summers at the family owned Long Beach Hotel in Gloucester and later at the family cottage nearby. He especially enjoyed entertaining his friends there. His humor and dacing ability kept the hotel lively.
He worked as business manager for the family owned Dorchester Oldsmobile dealership and Cushing Rambler in Cohasset. Later, he worked as credit manager for Shreve, Crump and Lowe in Boston.
Cav retired to Florida where he owned and trained show horses. He traveled around the state and won many championship ribbons. He also enjoyed activing and landed walk-on roles with Universal Studios.
He is survived by his children, Martha Gyllenjaal of Bryn Athyn, PA; W. Ben Cavagnaro of Kennebunk, ME and Jeffrey Cavagnaro of Gloucester; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
William O. Leggett , 81
DORCHESTER- William O. Leggett, 81, died Friday, May 2, 2003 in Northeast Specialty Hospital in Braintree.
Born October 23, 1921, he was a son of the late George and Alma (Hagan) Leggett.
He was employed as a City Inspector for the City of Boston.
He is survived by three nieces, Harriet (Blanchard)Williams of CT, Ruth Bartlett of Gloucester and Lynn Woods of NC.
A memorial service was held in the McHOUL FUNERAL HOME., 354 Adams St., Dorchester on Sunday from 3-5 p.m.
Maureen A. Cassidy, 49
BOSTON - Maureen A. Cassidy of Boston died Saturday, April 26, 2003 in Massachusetts General Hospital. She was the life companion of Amador Rodriguez.
Born March 15, 1954 in New Bedford, she was a daughter of Stephen J. Cassidy and Margaret A. Lacasse.
Mrs. Cassidy worked for Positive Directions in Boston as a treatment specialist. She was dedicated to her work and touched many lives in her position.
In addition to her companion and parents, she is survived by a son, Ian Salveson; two sisters Bridget Sheaof ME and Sheelagh M. Beaulieu of Fairhaven; a brother Stephen J. Cassidy Jr. of New Bedford, MA.
She was the sister of the late Margaret E. Cassidy.
Services will be held privately with a celebration of life at a later date.
Robert G. Chagnon, Jr., 44
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Robert G. Chagnon, Jr., 44, of Allen Avenue died Monday April 28, 2003 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Clark) Chagnon.
Born June 11, 1958 in Woonsocket, RI he was the son of Robert Sr. and Rose (Jalette) Chagnon of Woonsocket, RI. Robert lived in Woonsocket for 25 years and was a 1977 graduate of Woonsocket High School. He then attended Wentworth Institute.
He was an in-house carpenter for J & R Associates, Dover, MA for 12 years and worked primarily at Royal Park Apartments, No. Attleboro. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, No. Attleboro where he participated in the Tootsie Roll Drive every year. He was also a communicant of St. Mary's Church, No. Attleboro.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three children: a son Nicholas and twin daughters
Amy and Emily all at home; two sisters: Rose Tuttle of Woonsocket, RI; and Diane Scott of Warwick, RI;
a brother: Marc Chagnon of Pawtucket, RI. He was the son-in-law of Ruth Clark of No. Attleboro.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St., No. Attleboro
on Friday, May 2 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 14 Park St., No. Attleboro
at 10 O'clock. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visiting was Thursday, May 1 from 4 - 8 p.m.
