Frederick G. White , 84
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Frederick G. White , 84, of Chestnut Street died Thursday, July 10, 2003 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro.
Born December 15, 1918 in North Attleboro, he was a son of the late John W. and Abbie A. (Lewis) White .
Mr. White was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and a U.S. Navy Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He served aboard the U.S.S. Hector during the Korean War.
He worked for the Paulus and Son rug filler manufacturer in Franklin for many years and retired from St. Regis Fortifiber in Attleboro at age 62 after many years there.
He enjoyed gardening, discussing politics and loved animals.
Survivors include nieces Brenda J. White and Marijane White , who made their home with him; and was uncle to Lois Cleveland of North Attleboro, Shirley Bonneau of South Attleboro, Patricia Nolin of Attleboro, Joan Dodge Meserve of New Berwick, ME, Melvin White of North Attleboro, Raymond Dodge, Jr. of Hope Valley, RI and the late Thelma Ferrera, Helen Deger, Florence Stoddard, Dorothy Bessette and John White , Jr.
He was also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and was half brother of the late M. Louise Dodge White , Raymond Dodge, Sr. and John Everett White .
A funeral will be held in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Rev. Maryalice Sullivan, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial to follow in Plainville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 - 8 p.m.

Dorothy M. LaPierre, 81
ATTLEBORO - Dorothy M.(Bolton) LaPierre, 81, of Pleasant St., Attleboro died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home.
Born October 22, 1921 in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Burke)
Bolton.
Mrs. LaPierre lived most of her life in Attleboro. She was employed in the Environmental Dept. at
Sturdy Memorial Hospital for many years until her retirement several years ago.
She is survived by two children: Sheila Pinsonnault of No. Attleboro and Richard LaPierre, III of New Braunfels, TX.; a brother Frederick Bolton of Carver, MA
She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, a great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St., No. Attleboro on
Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Church St., No. Attleboro at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 -10 a.m.

Judith A. Gale, 62
PLAINVILLE - Judith A. Gale, 62, of Maple Street died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. She was the wife of Leon H. Gale, Jr.
Born February 1, 1941 in Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Richard G. and Carolyn (Elwell) Berkley.
Mrs. Gale has been a lifelong resident of Plainville and attended Plainville High School before graduating from King Philip High School in 1958.
She worked at the Manufacturer’s Bank in Plainville many years ago and later worked for accountants Joseph Columbo and Stephen Williams. She retired from Ro-Jack’s grocery store in North Attleboro several years ago after a few years there.
Mrs. Gale was a lifelong member of Plainville United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed camping, reading, crosswords and solitaire.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons, Lee H. Gale, III of Attleboro, Richard G. Gale of Attleboro, John D. Gale of Plainville and Jeffrey A. Gale of Plainville; two brothers, Gilbert Berkley of North Falmouth and Gary Berkley of Norton; Also 8 grandchildren and 2 nephews.
A funeral will be held Monday, July 14 at 10 a.m. in the Plainville United Methodist Church, 16 East Bacon Street, Plainville. Burial will follow in Plainville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. in SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.
Jeanette T. Maguire, 85
WESTBOROUGH - Jeanette T. Maguire, 85, of Westborough, formerly of Dorchester died June 29, 2003 after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Stephen L. Maguire.
Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Carol Maguire of Dorchester, Mary & Bob Wilman of Jacksonville, NC, Steven and Katrine Maguire of Chicago and Tina and Joe Frassica of Westborough.
Sister of Genevieve Cusick of Dennis and predeceased by 8 siblings.
Proud and loving Gramma of 8 beautiful grandchildren, aunt of many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her loving extended family and friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Ambrose Church on Thursday, July 3 at 10 O’clock. Burial followed in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of one’s choice or please plant something in your garden so her memory will live on.
Nancy A. Stevenson,86
ATTLEBORO - Nancy A. (Richardson) Stevenson of Attleboro died Monday, July 7, 2003 in Epoch of Norton Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Allan B. Stevenson.
Born August 30, 1916 in Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Easterbrooks) Richardson.
Mrs. Stevenson was a graduate of Attleboro High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. Mrs. Stevenson had been a resident of Attleboro most of her life also living in North Attleboro and England for several years.
Mrs. Stevenson was a teacher at several schools and she tutored many students in English and Reading. She worked as a reading consultant and author over the past 25 years, divising her own method for teaching reading to dyslexic students. As part of the Stevenson Language Skills Program she authored more than 30 manuals, reading books and workbooks. She also founded Stevenson Learing Skills now in Attleboro Falls.
She was active in the Attleboro Public Library, serving on the Board of Directors for many years. She also helped establish the Attleboro Area Mental Health Association, and the thirft shop that supported it. Mrs. Stevenson helped found the Little Folks Kindergarden and was also active in the United Fund. She was a member of Murray Unitarian Universalist Church. She spent summers at Touisset Point in Warren, RI where she was involved in the local community club.
Her survivors include a daughter Rondi J. Stevenson of Meredith, NH; two sons A. Campbell Stevenson of Greenfield, MA and William G. Stevenson of Holliston, MA; and a brother Roger Richardson of Attleboro. Also survived by three grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Jean Richardson Hall and Marion Richardson Hayslip.
A memorial service will be held in the Murray Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 North Main St., Attleboro on Monday July 14, 2003 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be Sunday evening, July 13 from 6-8 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.

Norman H. Hathaway, 70
PLAINVILLE - Norman H. Hathaway, 70, of Sunset Acres passed on Friday, July 4, 2003 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
He had recently celebrated fifty years of marriage to Jacqueline (Saucier-Bartolomei) Hathaway.
Born March 21, 1933 in South Attleboro, he was a son of the late William and Hope (Whiting) Hathaway. He has been a resident of Plainville for the past 17 years and had lived most of his life in South Attleboro.
Mr. Hathaway spent 20 years working as a truck driver for Morse Sand & Gravel Company before retiring many years ago.
He was a member of the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge and the South Attleboro American Legion. He was also past member of B.P.O.E. in North Attleboro and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Hathaway was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Debra Verpaelst of North Attleboro, Donna Tenn of Taunton and Cynthia Guilbeault of South Attleboro; two sisters, Ruth Lemond of South Attleboro and Gladys Smith of North Attleboro; two brothers, Elmer Ray Hathaway of FL and Robert Hathaway of South Attleboro; three grandchildren, Richard Tenn of Taunton, Avery Verpaelst of North Attleboro and Michael Verpaelst of North Attleboro;
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late William Hathaway, Jr. and Gertrude Langdeau;
A funeral was held in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Tuesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery
& Arboretum, Attleboro Falls. Rev. Vincent Nagle officiated.
Visitation was Monday, July 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Madeleine Y. Sargent, 82
WESTON - Madeleine Y. Sargent, 82, of Weston, formerly of North Attleboro died on June 22, 2003 at home. She was the wife of Melvin Don Sargent for 58 years.
She was a native of North Attleboro and lived in Weston for the past 36 years. In her youth, as an accomplished violinist she performed at many civic, church and social affairs in the Attleboro area.
An avid skier, lifetime jazz devotee and collector of antiques, she graduated from Westbrook College, Portland in 1940 and was a member of its Alumnae Association, also the Weston Historical Society, the Women’s Community League, Friends of the Public Library and the Senior Citizens’ Club of which she was Recording Secretary for two years.
She worked in the Pathology Dept. of Waltham Hospital from 1967 to 1987 with forensic pathologists Dr. Michael Luongo and Dr. George Katsas.
During World War II, she served with the Red Cross Motor Corps and worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Myles Standish Port of Embarcation Hospital in Taunton.
In addition to her husband, survivors include sons John of Weston and Gray of Waltham; three nieces and four grand-nephews.
The family will greet friends and relatives on a future date to be annouced. At her request, there is no funeral service.

Ruth L. Johnstone, 80
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Ruth L. Johnstone of North Attleboro died Sunday, June 15, 2003 in Madonna Manor Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Norman Johnstone who died on March 25, 2003
Born November 23, 1922 in Athol, MA she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Blanche (Holton) Bisbee.
Mrs. Johnstone has been a resident of North Attleboro since 1960. She grew up and lived many years in Athol and was a graduate of Athol High School.
Her survivors include two daughters Heather McCrystal of Norton and Luanne Stauff of Attleboro; and two sons David Johnstone of Windham, ME and Robert Johnstone of North Attleboro;
Also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
Services will be private.

Sr. Cecile Champagne, 83, a Holy Union Sister
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Sister Cecile Champagne, 83, a Holy Union Sister died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on May 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Adelisca and Arcelia(Breault)
Champagne.
Sister Cecile attended St. Jean Baptiste Elementary and High School before entering the Holy Union Community in Fall River in 1936. After her studies at the Holy Union School of Education, she earned her
B.S. Degree in Education at Catholic Teachers’ College, Providence, RI. She then went on to attend
Rhode Island College where she specialized in reading.
Sister Cecile’s teaching career of 59 years brought her to Catholic elementary schools in Taunton, Lawrence, Shirley, Cambridge, and Concord in Mass. She also taught at St. Cecilia’s School, Pawtucket, RI where she spent 21 years enhancing the reading center which she had established.
In 1997, she retired at St. Mary’s Convent, No. Attleboro and in 1999, due to ill health, became a resident of Madonna Manor Nursing Home, No. Attleboro.
In addition to her Holy Union Sisters, she leaves two brothers: Rene Champagne of Pawtucket, RI; and
George Champagne of Lincoln, RI. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A funeral Mass was held in Sacred Heart Church, Church St., No. Attleboro on Monday, June 23rd at 5:00 p.m.
Visiting was in the SPERRY and McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St., No. Attleboro on Monday, June 23 from 2 - 4:30 p.m.
