Louise Anna Hakel, 92
Centerville - Louise Anna (Maurer) Hakel, 92, a resident of Centerville, died Sept. 10, 2002, at her home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Carl P. Hakel.
Born and raised in Watertown, she worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield developing its key punch operations. She was there for many years, retiring to become a homemaker and raise her family.
She later returned to work as a secretary and bookkeeper, retiring in the early 1970s to Centerville.
She was known for being an excellent seamstress and also loved horticulture and cooking.
A devout Catholic, she was a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order of Harwich.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Halley of Centerville and Patricia Murray of Shoreline, Wash.; a son, Joseph Halley of Mashpee; a brother, Henry Maurer of Watertown; a sister, Sr. Bertille Maurer of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery
in that village.

Catherine J. Hansberry, 98
Osterville - Catherine J. Hansberry, 98, a resident of Osterville, died Sept. 12, 2002, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Centerville.
Born in Osterville, Miss Hansberry was a graduate of Barnstable Normal School. She drove for the Red Cross during World War II.
Miss Hansberry owned and operated Catherine's Store in Osterville, retiring in 1970. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where she was a member of its Women's Guild. She was also a volunteer in the gift shop at Cape Cod Hospital.
Surviving are seven nieces, Mary Downey, Ellen Hansberry, Martha Curley, Kathleen Pawloski and Susan Jacobson, all of Osterville, Patricia Jensen of Palm City, Fla., and Joan Carven of Marshfield.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.
Gregory LaCava, 75
Cotuit - Gregory LaCava, 75, a resident of Cotuit, died Sept. 6, 2002, at Falmouth Hospital.
He was the husband of Andrea Humphreys.
Born in Orange, N.J., he graduated from Bowdoin College.
He was the nephew and namesake of nationally acclaimed movie director Gregory LaCava, who directed My Man Godfrey and Stage Door, among others.
An Army veteran, Mr. LaCava was an executive for Continental Can Co., where he worked for 35 years.
Mr. LaCava was a member of the Hyannisport Club and the Beach Club in Craigville.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Gregory R. LaCava; and a daughter, Victoria H. LaCava.
A funeral service was held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Osterville.

John J. 'Jack' Levine Jr., 78
Osterville - John J. "Jack" Levine Jr., 78, a resident of Osterville, died Sept. 11, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Rosaline K. (Thomann) Levine for 56 years.
Born in Brockton, he graduated from Barnstable High School in 1942.
Mr. Levine worked for New England Telephone/Nynex for 40 years. He was also a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Belltel Retirees Inc.
Mr. Levine served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was highly decorated, serving with the 9th Air Force, 53rd Troop Carrier Group in the European theater. He was past president and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2587, was on the board of directors of the American Legion Post 206, and a liaison for American Legion baseball. Mr. Levine received many awards, including the Elk Salute Award for Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Mr. Levine was one of the founders of the Kennedy Youth Hockey Program. An active member of the program, he touched the lives of many of the families and youths in the community.
He was past national director and past president member of the Ice Hockey Officials Association, president of the Cape Cod Chapter N.I.O.H.A. and chief referee of the New England Junior Hockey League. He was a 35-year member of the United States Amateur Hockey and an honorary lifetime member of the N.I.O.H.A.
Mr. Levine was an active lifetime member of Cape Cod Rough Riders.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Robert G. Levine of Centerville and John T. Levine of Hyannis; four daughters, Susan M. Weymouth of New Port St. Richie, Fla., Jane M. Corey of Hyannis, Carol A. Mazurek of Mount Marion, N.Y., and Katherine J. Poire of Marstons Mills; a sister, Barbara (Levine) Sprague of Hyannis; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.

Ethel McAuliffe, 86
Centerville - Ethel (Dierks) McAuliffe, 86, a resident of Centerville and formerly of Dennisport, died Sept. 11, 2002, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.
She was the wife of the late Daniel J. McAuliffe.
Born, raised and educated in New York City, she graduated from Mount St. Vincent College.
She became a service representative for New York Telephone and then for New England Telephone.
She then became a second- and third-grade teacher for the Wellfleet Public Schools until retiring.
Mrs. McAuliffe was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Nauset Education Association.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel McAuliffe of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul McAuliffe of Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.; a daughter, Alice Callahan of Brewster; and two grandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late Kevin McAuliffe.

John J. 'Jack' O'Neill, 64
Centerville - John J. "Jack" O'Neill, 64, a resident of Centerville, died Sept. 9, 2002, after a long illness.
He was the husband of Diane O'Neill.
Mr. O'Neill was born, raised and educated in the Boston-Brookline area and attended Fitchburg State College. He was an Army veteran. A master plumber, he was the owner and operator of O'Neill Plumbing. He was also a teacher and hockey coach at Cape Cod Technical High School. He loved the beach.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lauren Peruzzi of Abington, Valerie Larkin of Marblehead and Janice Fahey of Acton; two sons, John O'Neill Jr. of Scituate and Brian O'Neill of Boston; and eight grandchildren.
He was also the father of Kevin O'Neill, who died in 1995.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial following in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.

Michael P. Rocheteau, 42
Centerville - Michael Paul Rocheteau, 42, a resident of Centerville, died Sept. 12, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Nancy (LaCouture) Rocheteau of Centerville.
Born and raised in Hyannis, he graduated from Barnstable High School in 1978. He has lived in Centerville for the past 13 years.
He was in the retail produce industry for more than 25 years, working in many parts of the Cape.
He was a living donor and transplant recipient and was inducted into the Living Donor Hall of Fame. He was also an avid sports fan.
Besides his wife, survivors include his mother, Antonia "June" (Mendes) Rocheteau of Hyannis; a son, Jacob Paul Rocheteau of Centerville; a daughter, Casey Lynne Rocheteau of Centerville; two brothers, Ralph C. "Randy" Rocheteau of Homestead, Fla., and Joseph C. Rocheteau of Quincy; two sisters, Diane M. Rocheteau of Cambridge and Joann M. Rocheteau of Hyannis; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.

Kent L. Worthington, 87
Osterville - Kent L. Worthington, 87, a resident of Osterville, died Sept. 9, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care - Pavilion after a long illness.
He was the husband of Virginia (Avore) Worthington of Osterville.
Born, raised and educated in Pennsylvania , he received his bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University and later his master's degree from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
He served in the Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic, where he saw military action.
After the war, Mr. Worthington returned home and began teaching. He was a professor for a number of years for various universities and colleges.
After retiring from teaching, he pursued a career with People's Drug Stores in Washington , D.C.
He had lived in Maine, Washington , D.C., and later retired to Osterville in the early 1980s.
Mr. Worthington was an avid reader. He enjoyed furniture refinishing, horses and sailing.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Weslee E. Desforge of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and a grandson.
