Gary Grimley, 55
Hyannis - Gary Grimley, 55, a resident of Hyannis, died June 21, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Karen (Stapleton) Grimley.
Born in Troy, N.Y., Mr. Grimley graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1965. After graduation, he attended business school.
Mr. Grimley owned and operated an advertising agency for about 20 years in New York State.
Serving in the Army, he spent much of his time in Germany.
He moved to Cape Cod 12 years ago, settling in South Yarmouth and then moving to Hyannis about one year ago.
Mr. Grimley volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital for many years.
He was an avid sports fan who supported the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also loved being outdoors and was fond of the beach. He will be remembered for his love of animals, especially his dog, Lillie.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Gary Grimley and Joshua Grimley, both of Troy, N.Y.; two stepsons, Richard Smith of Dunstable, Anthony Smith of Marshfield; and a grandchild.
John E. Joseph
Hyannis - A graveside service for John E. Joseph, a Hyannis resident who died April 23, 2001, was held in Mosswood Cemetery
in Cotuit.
He was the husband of Jacqueline (Brailey) Joseph.
Born in Hyannis, Mr. Joseph served with the Navy Seabees, graduating first is class at Port Hueneme Electrical College. He worked for 39 years with the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include three children, Gary, Eric and Gerald Joseph of Hyannis; two sisters, Shirley Piche of Hyannis and Cathy Crowley of West Haven, Conn.
Rita A. Kelley, 82
Centerville - Rita A. (Kelley) Kelley, 82, a resident of Centerville, died June 23, 2002, at home after a long illness.
She was the wife of Joseph C. Kelley, who died in June 2001. They were married for 60 years.
Born in Hyannis, she was a 10th-generation Kelley and Cape Codder. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1937.
Mrs. Kelley retired from Prudential Insurance. She and her husband were winter residents of Tarpon Springs, Fla., for 25 years.
She loved to sing and play violin. She was a member of the Cape Chorus, Dr. Paul Guiliana Choral and a soloist at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Mrs. Kelley was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2578.
Survivors include two sons, Michael J. Kelley of Centerville and Dennis Kelley of Hyannis; a daughter, Peggy Kelley of Centerville; a brother, C. Walter Kelley of Wisconsin; a sister, Edith Babcock of Illinois; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and close family friend and caregiver, Dale Andrade.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery
in Hyannis.

Martha L. Lando, 85
Fredericksburg, Va. - Martha Lotz Lando, 85, formerly of Schenectady and Hyannis, died June 23, 2002, at the Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Fredericksburg.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Santino F. "Tino" Lando.
Born in Utica, N.Y., Mrs. Lando graduated from the University of New York, Albany College of Pharmacy in 1936 with a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry. She was a pharmacist at Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H., early during World War II.
She was an associate member of the New England Watercolor Society. Mrs. Lando won many prizes and awards for her oil and watercolor paintings.
Mrs. Lando was a Hospice chaplain at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Following a series of strokes in 1995, she moved in with her son in Fredericksburg. Mrs. Lando was a strong Christian who encouraged and shared her faith with many.
Survivors include two daughters, Elissa Snowden of Marietta, Ga., and Patricia Ann Lando of Albany, N.Y.; a son, Dr. David W. Lando of Fredericksburg; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" L. Blodgett of Watertown, N.Y.; a brother, Francis "Frank" T. Lotz of Delmar, N.Y.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home in Albany.
Burial followed in Memory's Garden in Colonie, N.Y.

Douglas J. Laviana, 58
Yarmouthport - Douglas J. Laviana, 58, a resident of Yarmouthport, died June 22, 2002, at his home after a short illness.
He was the husband of Karleen A. Laviana. They were married 38 years.
Mr. Laviana was born, raised and educated in Waterbury, Conn. He earned an associate's degree in business administration from Quinnipiac College in Connecticut. He worked for many years for the Holgrath Corp. in Cheshire, Conn., where he attained the position of materials manager. He relocated with his family to Barnstable Village in 1979.
Mr. Laviana was the general manager of American Medical Instruments. In 1982, he formed Accu-Line Products Inc.
He was a member of Kings Way Golf Club, Cedar Hammock Golf and Country Club and the Hyannis Elks Club.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, James D. Laviana of Yarmouthport; a daughter, Tracy Henschel of Naples, Fla.; his mother, Marie McGuire of Cocoa, Fla.; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be held July 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable in Barnstable Village.

Ronald Richard Strachan, 66
Hyannisport - Ronald Richard Strachan, 66, a resident of Hyannisport, Wayland and Vero Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly at his home June 28, 2002.
Mr. Strachan was the husband of Anne Louise Strachan.
Born and raised in Waterbury, Conn., he graduated from Cheshire Academy and earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Georgetown University.
Mr. Strachan started his own company, Consolidated Tube in Waterbury.
After selling the company, he acquired E.S.P. Lock Company in Leominster, which became one of the largest key manufacturing companies in the country.
Mr. Strachan sold the company in 1993, when he retired.
While in Waterbury, Conn., he was active in the Chamber of Commerce and served as president of the Urban Renewal Commission and the Mental Health Association of Waterbury.
A Knight of Malta, Mr. Strachan was a communicant of St. Julius' Church in Weston and raised money for the Pope John XXIII Seminary in Weston.
An avid skier, he also loved to golf and was a member of the Waterbury Country Club.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Strachan is survived by a daughter, Susan Anne Strachan of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three sons, John W. Strachan of Charlestown, Richard S. Strachan of Wayland and Tom M. Strachan of Brookline.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery
in that village.

Thomas J. Crowley, 66
West Barnstable - Thomas J. Crowley, 66, of West Barnstable died July 3, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Helen P. (Sheridan) Crowley of West Barnstable.
Mr. Crowley was born in Olean, N.Y., and reared and educated in Bolivar, N.Y., where he graduated from high school.
He earned a bachelor of science degree from Boston College in 1958.
He entered the Marine Corps and served in Okinawa, Japan.
He was honorably discharged in 1967 with the rank of captain.
He later was employed as a salesman by Eastman Kodak, where he worked for 30 years until retiring in 1991.
He moved to Barnstable from Virginia in 1997.
Mr. Crowley was a member of the Elks for 39 years, and while on Cape Cod was a member of Hyannis Lodge 1549, where he was serving as Esquire.
He also was a member of American Legion Post 772 in Bolivar, N.Y. A marathoner, he loved jogging. He was an avid reader.
Surviving besides his wife are six daughters, Caroline Wilkerson of Pensacola, Fla., Colleen Derber of Dunkirk, Md., Constance Crowley of Arlington, Va., Catherine Rouleau of Denver, Christin Crowley of Bremerton, Wash., and Jean Sprague of Blacksburg, Va.; three stepsons, Michael Martin of Wilmington, James Martin of San Jose, Calif., and Robert Martin of Holliston; two stepdaughters, Susan Partridge of Plainville and Elizabeth Way of Webster; a brother, Robert Crowley of Bolivar, N.Y.; sister, Kathleen Taylor of Abilene, Texas ; five grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery
in Bourne.
