Dorothy A. McMakin, 78
Hyannis - Dorothy A. (Ferry) McMakin, 78, a resident of Hyannis, died June 18, 2002, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville.
Born and educated in Providence, she spent most of her adult life on Cape Cod. She worked for Colonial Candle in Hyannis for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and a longtime member of the Hyannis Emblem Club 94, serving as the Emblem Club president from 1970 to 1972.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl A. Dowling of Centerville and Barbara Medeiros of Cotuit; two sons, James C. McMakin of North Eastham and Timothy M. McMakin of North Waterboro, Maine; a brother, James J. Ferry of Providence, R.I.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Teresa McMakin.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Helen E. Strazzero, 90
Amherst - Helen E. (Comstock) Strazzero, 90, a resident of Amherst and formerly of Centerville, died June 6, 2002, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.
She was the wife of Leo "Hap" Strazzero, who died in 1987.
Born in Worcester, Mrs. Strazzero lived most of her life in Marlborough, before moving to Centerville. She graduated from Marlborough High School and received an associate's degree from Cape Cod Community College and Cape Cod Conservatory of Music.
Mrs. Strazzero was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
She was a school secretary for many years in the Marlborough schools and at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich.
An accomplished pianist and church organist, she was involved in the special music program at the Federated Church of Hyannis before moving to Amherst.
Mrs. Strazzero was a very active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a son, Paul Strazzero of Boxford; a daughter, Lizzie Strazzero of Amherst; and six grandchildren.
Private funeral services and burial were held in Evergreen Cemetery
in Marlborough.

Wilfred Taylor, 93
West Barnstable - Wilfred Taylor, 93, a resident of West Barnstable and formerly of Mattapoisett, died June 19, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of the late Barbara Allen Clarke Taylor.
Born in Bolton, England, Mr. Taylor came to the United States in 1914. He moved to West Barnstable in 1961.
He was a boat builder and built PT boats during World War II. He was also a finish carpenter and owned cranberry bogs in Mattapoisett and on Cape Cod.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith T. Waterfield of West Barnstable; two sons, Wilfred F. Taylor of Alfred, Maine, and Allan C. Taylor of Osterville; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a niece.
A graveside service was held in Crocker Park Cemetery
in West Barnstable.

Robert T. White , 79
West Barnstable - Robert T. White , 79, a resident of West Barnstable, died June 17, 2002.
He was the husband of Louise (McDonough) White , who died in 2000. They were married for 42 years.
Mr. White was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
Born and raised in Milford, he graduated from Milford High School in 1940. He attended Northeastern University, earning a master's degree in business. He also taught business there as well.
At the age of 12, Mr. White began working for Western Union as a messenger boy and worked his way to vice president and general manager, working in Puerto Rico from 1963 to 1969.
He then pursued a career in law enforcement, working for 17 years for the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff. He also taught law enforcement at the Cape Cod Community College.
In the late 1980s, after retiring, he and his wife moved to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where he taught business at the Daytona Beach Community College.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Survivors include a son, Kevin R. White of Villas, N.J.; a daughter, Kimberly Holmes of Centerville; a sister, Regina Pessotti of Milford; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A wake service was held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis, with burial following in Massachusetts National Cemetery
in Bourne.

Susan Elizabeth Woodson, 85
West Yarmouth - Susan Elizabeth (Terry) Woodson, 85, of West Yarmouth, died May 13, 2002, at the Mayflower Place Nursing Center in Yarmouth.
She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Woodson.
Mrs. Woodson was born in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. She was educated in Rio de Janeiro and graduated from high school in 1934.
She came to the United States in 1934 and attended Carson-Newton College in Jefferson City, Tenn., earning a bachelor's of science degree in biology in 1938. After graduation, she attended the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky., for two years.
Mrs. Woodson moved to Boston in 1950 and taught kindergarten for medically challenged children at Children's Medical Center from 1950 to 1954.
In 1955, she earned a master's degree in education from Tufts University. From 1963 to 1977, Mrs. Woodson was an educator and ran a halfway house at Boston School Hospital.
She retired in 1977 and moved to Centerville, moving to West Yarmouth in 1993.
She enjoyed doing crafts and working with children. She was a past president of the American Baptist Women's Association and the Association for Early Childhood Education, Boston Chapter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hyannis.
Surviving are a nephew, Daniel B. Terry of Waycross, Ga., and two great-nephews.
A service of remembrance was held in the First Baptist Church in Hyannis.

A. Patrick Zapponi, 90
Centerville - A. Patrick Zapponi, 90, a resident of Centerville, died June 20, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Louise M. (Cerulli) Zapponi of Centerville for 62 years.
Born, raised and educated in Proctor, Vt., he worked for Western Electric Co. in Watertown for more than 42 years, manufacturing and supplying systems for Bell Telephone.
After retiring in 1979, he moved from Lexington, where he lived for more than 30 years, to Centerville, where he resided for the past 20 years.
He was a member of the Pioneers of America and a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Neal T. Zapponi of South Plymouth; a daughter, Jean L. Bishop of West Plymouth; three brothers, William Zapponi of Brunswick, Ga., Richard Zapponi of Rotunda West, Fla., and Julius Zapponi of Alton, Okla.; a sister, Tillie Ciccarelli of Riverside, Calif.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, with burial following in Beechwood Cemetery
there.

John J. Almeida, 81
Centerville - John J. Almeida, 81, a resident of Centerville, died June 23, 2002, at his home.
He was the husband of Mary E. (Silva) Almeida of Centerville. They were married for 58 years.
Mr. Almeida was born, raised and educated in Cambridge, where he graduated from Cambridge Rindge High School.
He worked for his uncle for several years before entering the Army during World War II. He served as a medical technician for the 129th General Hospital until being honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1946.
After the war, he returned to the family business, Almeida & Cabral in Cambridge, until going to work for the federal government as a supervisor for the General Service Administration, retiring in 1980.
He lived in Medford until moving to Yarmouth after his retirement. He then moved to Centerville, where he lived for the past 17 years.
Mr. Almeida was a member of the Barnstable Council on Aging and was president of the Progressive Club of Cape Cod. He was also past chaplain of the AARP Chapter 277 of Cape Cod and a member of the Hyannis Elks Lodge 1549, Hyannis.
He was also active in many volunteer programs throughout the Cape and enjoyed golfing, woodworking and square dancing
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Margaret M. Tritto of Hyannis; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Robert J. Almeida.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.
Burial followed in Massachusetts National Cemetery
in Bourne.

Agnes B. Boyle, 86
Hyannis - Agnes B. (Beatty) Boyle, 86, a resident of Hyannis, died June 20, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care - Pavilion.
She was the wife of William J. Boyle of Hyannis.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Boyle was raised and educated in New York City.
After completing her education, she began working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City. She worked for several years, then joined the Navy, serving as a storekeeper first class during World War II.
She married while in the service and after the war, returned to Met Life in New York City for several years, before leaving to become a homemaker.
Mrs. Boyle later moved to Larchmont, N.Y., and lived in New Rochelle and Mamaroneck, N.Y., before retiring to the Cape in 1977.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling and the beauty of the Cape.
She is survived by her husband.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced.
