Florence B. Borsari, 90

Hyannis - Florence B. (Robitaille) Borsari, 90, died Nov. 18, 2001, at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late Louis J. Borsari.
Mrs. Borsari was born and raised in New Bedford. In the early 1940s, she moved to Hyannis and became an office manager and longtime employee at Zayre Corp. until she retired in 1979.
She was a past president and honorary life member of the Hyannis Emblem Club #94 and a volunteer with the Hyannis Lodge of Elks Veterans Committee as well as at various Elks functions. She was also a charter member of the Barnstable High School Quarterback Club.
Mrs. Borsari is survived by two daughters, M.F. Theresa Jarvis of Liberty, Mo., and Pamela Henly of Sandwich; a son, Joseph A. Borsari of Brewster; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills. Burial followed in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Donations in Mrs. Borsari's memory may be made to the Barnstable Quarterback Club, P.O. Box 2112, Centerville, MA 02632.

Edith C. Browne, 79

Hanover, N.H. - Edith Carlton Browne, 79, formerly of Cotuit, died Nov. 19, 2001, at Kendal at Hanover in Hanover after a long illness with cancer.
She was the wife of Gordon M. Browne Jr. since 1945.
Born in Portland, Maine, Mrs. Browne grew up in Cambridge, and attended Buckingham School and Radcliffe College. After her marriage, she moved to Chicago and lived in Illinois for 13 years.
In 1949, the family began spending vacations on Cape Cod, which Mrs. Browne had loved as a child, and in 1958 moved to Cotuit.
She became active in village life, serving as president of the Cotuit Nursery School, as an election judge for the town of Barnstable and as a member of several local committees.
Mrs. Browne joined Sandwich Monthly Meeting of Friends and worshipped at South Yarmouth Preparative Meeting. Over time, she served as presiding clerk of both Meetings and as editor of the Sandwich Meeting newsletter.
In 1966, the family acquired a small farm in the hills of Peacham, Vt., where they retreated in summer.
Mrs. Browne was part of the founding group of the Cape Cod branch of the NAACP and joined other branch members in demonstrations aimed at ending lunch counter discrimination in Woolworth stores. She and her husband have been military tax resisters since the early 1960s.
When her children were grown, she and her husband spent two years in New York representing Quakers at the United Nations. She organized the office library, entertained diplomats and visiting Quakers, and enjoyed attending opera and theater in the city.
A few years later, with her husband working with Friends World Committee for Consultation, a Quaker organization, they moved to Philadelphia, and Mrs. Browne became a full-time volunteer in the FWCC office. She and her husband traveled widely, visiting Quakers in Northern Ireland, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Japan and Korea.
In 1988, she and her husband retired and returned to Cotuit. In 1990, they moved to Vermont and joined Plainfield, Vt., Meeting of Friends, where Mrs. Browne edited the Meeting newsletter for several years. In 1999, she and her husband moved to a Quaker-sponsored retirement community in Hanover.
Mrs. Browne was an excellent cook, an amateur painter and loved family life, the sea, marshes, birds and flowers.
Surviving besides her husband are four daughters, Sarah Polito of Cataumet, Rebecca Lafferty of Peacham, Vt., Deborah Carpillo of East Providence, R.I., and Elizabeth Klaus of Carlisle, Iowa; two sons, Charles Browne and Richard Browne, both of Peacham, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jeanette 'Jan' Buckler, 86

Hyannis - Jeanette "Jan" (Lovejoy) Buckler, 86, died Nov. 17, 2001, at Cape Regency in Centerville.
Born in Jacksonville, Vt., Ms. Buckler graduated from Natick High School in 1932.
In 1954, she moved with her husband and family to Hyannis, where they owned and operated the Salt Winds Motel and Jan's Sandwich Shop at Craigville Beach for several years.
She was on the Barnstable High School cafeteria staff for 15 years.
Ms. Buckler was an avid walker and enjoyed going to yard sales.
Surviving are a brother, Ralph Lovejoy of Scituate; a son, Stephen Buckler of Dana Point, Calif.; four daughters, Carolyn Peck of Naples, Fla., Janet Gribko of Pt. St. Lucie, Fla., Linda Caldwell of Mashpee and Stephanie Brady of Sandwich; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Unitarian Church in Barnstable.

Dorothy A. Clarkin, 80

Fall River - Dorothy A. (Joynt) Clarkin, 80, formerly of Barrington, R.I., and Centerville, died Nov. 17, 2001, at Adams House in Fall River.
She was the wife of the late James R. Clarkin.
Mrs. Clarkin was born in Fall River. She graduated from the former Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River in 1938, was captain of St. Mary's and a graduate of Bryant College. She was employed as a secretary in the Barrington Public Schools for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1980.
Mrs. Clarkin was a communicant of Holy Name Church and was a member and past president of the Holy Name Women's Guild. For many years, she counseled young adults in the pre-Cana conferences leading to marriage. She was also a member of the Barrington Women's Club.
Surviving are a son, James W. Clarkin of Fall River; and two daughters, Kathleen J. Streicker of Providence, R.I., and Leslie Olson of Barrington; and five grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Holy Name Church in Fall River. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Harry R. Easter, 73

Tampa, Fla. - Harry R. Easter, 73, a resident of Hyannis and Tampa, died Nov. 20, 2001, from cancer in Tampa.
He was the husband of Helen S. (Baker) Easter for 48 years.
Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., Mr. Easter graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
Mr. Easter served in the Army during the Korean conflict.
On Cape Cod, he was employed as an office equipment purchasing agent at Charlbets, Meserve's, Cape Cod Business Machines and Hansen's.
Mr. Easter was an organist at South Yarmouth Methodist Church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, The Federated Church of Hyannis and Cape Cod Synagogue for many years.
He was past president of the American Guild of Organists, Cape Cod Charter and was a member of The Federated Church of Hyannis.
Mr. Easter enjoyed genealogical research.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Myla Uppercue of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. George H. Easter of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Eleanor Easter of Silver Springs, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral was held at The Federated Church of Hyannis. Burial followed in Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich.
Memorial donations may be made to The Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601; or to Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis, MA 02601.

Tauno Edwin Lampi, 85

Harwich - Tauno Edwin Lampi, 85, a resident of Harwich, died Nov. 21, 2001, at the Cranberry Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Harwich.
He was the former husband of Edith (Carter) Lampi of West Barnstable.
Born and raised in West Barnstable, Mr. Lampi lived his entire life on Cape Cod.
In 1942, he entered the Army and served during World War II. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Defense Service Medal. He spent some time in Italy. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to the Cape.
Mr. Lampi worked as a landscaper for several local companies and private residences. He retired in the mid-1980s.
He enjoyed digging for clams in Barnstable Harbor, and also enjoyed vegetable gardening.
Surviving besides his former wife are a daughter, Irene M. Lampi of West Barnstable; a brother, Henry Lampi; three sisters, Irene Hendrickson, Viola Johnson and Annie Hagan; and many nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 3055 Main St., P.O. Box 953, Barnstable, MA 02630.

Bernard N. Lanoue, 80

Hyannis - Bernard N. Lanoue, 80, a resident of Hyannis, died unexpectedly on Nov. 21, 2001, at his home.
He was the husband of Adele J. (Germaine) Lanoue for 54 years.
Born and raised in Brockton, Mr. Lanoue graduated from Brockton High School, where he was a star athlete. He was one of the first six to be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame for football. He was also a talented first baseman for the school baseball team, with a batting average over .400. He accepted a football scholarship to Boston College and he played in the 1943 Orange Bowl.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II as a nose gunner in a B-25 Mitchell medium bomber.
After graduating from Boston College, Mr. Lanoue began a long career as a special agent with the FBI.
In 1955, he was assigned to the Newark, N.J., field office and one year later transferred to the Manhattan field office, where he specialized in counter espionage and internal national security. During that time, he resided in Edison, N.J., for 20 years.
In 1976, Mr. Lanoue requested transfer to the Boston office where he investigated civil rights violations, organized crime and white collar crime. He retired in 1978.
From 1976, until moving to Hyannis in 1996, Mr. Lanoue lived in North Easton. He was later employed as director for the Massachusetts Department of Correction and was a private security consultant for the NHL and the NFL, where he conducted investigations and background checks.
He was active with the Boston College Alumni Association and the FBI Retired Agents Association and enjoyed golf and reading.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Bernard Lanoue of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Philip Lanoue of Bloomfield, N.J., and Christopher Lanoue of Boston; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Cross Church in South Easton.
Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
