Elizabeth Richmond, 76

Centerville - Elizabeth Richmond, 76, of Centerville, died Sept. 3, 2001, at her home.
She was the wife of John Richmond.
Ms. Richmond was born and educated in Hartwick Seminary, N.Y. She was a graduate of the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y. She was a paralegal before retiring to the Cape in 1989.
She was a lifelong music lover and a voracious reader. She enjoyed crossword and logic puzzles, bridge and crocheting. She was a member of the West Parish Congregational Church of West Barnstable and its Women's Guild.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Carol Tsang of White Plains, N.Y., and Emily Williams of Sydney, Australia; a son, John Richmond of Hyannis; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service was held at the West Parish Congregational Church in West Barnstable.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouth, MA 02675.

Roy Simpson, 70

Cotuit - Roy Simpson, 70, a resident of Cotuit who formerly lived in Brewster and Osterville, died Sept. 2, 2001, at his home.
He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Lewis) Simpson, who died in 1989.
Mr. Simpson was born in Lynn and educated in Revere Schools. He served in the Coast Guard.
He worked as a switchman for New England Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Simpson was a longtime resident of Wakefield before moving to the Cape 27 years ago.
He attended the Senior Program at Cape Cod Community College Center for lifelong learning and enjoyed boating, golf and animals. He was also an avid bridge player.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna J. Russell of Parkman, Maine; two sons, Roy M. Simpson of Boston and Bret T. Simpson of East Bridgewater; a sister, Dorothy J. Simpson of Middleton; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Irene R. Trapp, 63

Fort Meyers, Fla. - Irene R. Trapp, 63, a former Dennisport resident, died Sept. 7, 2001, at Hope Hospice House.
She was the wife of Richard J. Trapp of Fort Myers.
Mrs. Trapp was born in Chelsea. After her marriage, she moved to Dennisport, where she resided until moving to Fort Myers 32 years ago. She had been employed at K-Mart as a front-end supervisor for the past seven years.
Surviving besides her husband are five sons, Robert Trickett, John Trickett, Richard Trapp Jr., Paul Trapp and Charles Trapp; two daughters, Lorna Purmort and Elizabeth Grogg; a brother, John Moore; five sisters, Leona Liljeholm, Mildred Doucette, Pearl Hiltz, Eleanor Cobb and Laura Strong; and19 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Faith Assembly of God Church in North. Fort Myers.
Memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Cr., Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Thomas Allsopp, 83

Atlantis, Fla. - Thomas Allsopp, 83, a longtime resident of Centerville, and more recently of Atlantis, Fla., died Sept. 13, 2001.
He was the husband of Evelyn (Campbell) Allsopp. He was previously married to Peggy (Johnson) Allsopp for 58 years until her death in 1998.
Mr. Allsopp was born in Newark, N.J., and graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1939. In 1974, he was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree by Bates College for his numerous contributions to business and society.
During World War II, he served as a captain in the Army Infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the European theater.
Mr. Allsopp worked for Prudential Insurance Co. for 37 years, until retiring in 1976. His career took him from Newark to Toronto, Ontario, and Jacksonville, Fla., then to Newark as a vice president in 1955. In 1962, he moved to Boston as senior vice president in charge of northeastern operations for Prudential, where he oversaw the Prudential Center opening.
Mr. Allsopp served as a trustee of Boston University, chairman of the New England Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee, chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and a member of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and the Boston Museum of Science. He also served as regional chairman of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Antelope Award for Distinguished Service to Boyhood. After retirement, he became interim executive director of American Council of Life Insurance in Washington , D.C., a consultant for Independent Grocers of America and on the board of Zurich-American Insurance Co. He fulfilled a longtime wish to teach when he was awarded an endowed chair at University of Akron School of Business.
He enjoyed jazz music and the trumpet, studying and performing with Lou Colombo. An avid golfer and swimmer, he was a member of Oyster Harbors Club, Atlantis Golf Club and Princeton Club of New York.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Carol Allsopp Quirk, Barbara Allsopp Conathan and Susan Allsopp Kass; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675; or to the charity of one's choice.

Winifred 'Winnie' Carey, 84

Hyannis - Winifred "Winnie" Carey, 84, a 50-year resident of Dorchester, died Sept. 10, 2001, at Windsor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in South Yarmouth.
Born in Dorchester, she also lived in Quincy and Brockton before moving to Cape Cod in 1990.
Miss Carey worked as a sales clerk at Bradlees in Dorchester. She loved animals, reading and soap operas.
She is survived by a brother, Paul Carey on Brockton; a niece, Lillian Sutherland, and her husband, Skip Sutherland, of Hyannis, with whom she lived; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery there.
Memorial donations may be made to Hyannis Rescue Squad, 95 High School Road Extension, Hyannis, MA 02601; or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, MA 02675.

Francis E. Kelly, 80

Osterville - Francis E. Kelly, 80, a resident of Osterville and Boca Raton, Fla., and formerly of Mashpee, died Sept. 10, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community Pavilion in Hyannis after a long illness.
He was the husband Mary J. (Finneran) Kelly.
Mr. Kelly was born in Moundsville, W.Va., and was raised and educated in Bellaire, Ohio.
He served in the Navy from 1939 to 1945, including World War II. After the war, he moved to Boston. He attended technical college and trained as an electronics engineer.
Mr. Kelly worked at Epsco Inc. in Beverly and at Sanders Inc. in Burlington, retiring in the early 1980s. He lived in Wilmington for a number of years and moved to Mashpee 18 years ago.
During the past 17 years, Mr. Kelly spent the winter months in Boca Raton. He enjoyed running long distance, including the Boston Marathon, flying as a hobby, and was an avid golfer.
Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, Thomas R. Kelly and Michael T. Kelly, both of Boca Raton; a daughter, Marianne Kelly of Somerville; two brothers, John Kelly of Bellaire and Robert Kelly of Roslindale, Ohio; one sister, Clara Jacobs of Bellaire; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were private.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Richard H. Leavitt, 71

Centerville - Richard H. Leavitt, 71, a resident of Centerville, died Sept. 11, 2001, after having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on Sept. 7.
He was the husband of Barbara Leavitt for nearly 50 years.
Mr. Leavitt was a partner of the CPA firm Glantz, Saperstein, Leavitt & Farber.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Judy Mangino of Clifton Park, N.Y.; a son, Larry Leavitt of Santa Monica, Calif.; a sister, Elaine Brenner of Lynn; a grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A service was held at Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis. Shiva services were held at the residence.

Louise R. Mendes, 83

New Bedford - Louise R. (Pina) Mendes, 83, a resident of New Bedford, died Sept. 9, 2001, at home after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Adilino J. Mendes.
Mrs. Mendes was born in Marstons Mills and was a 1937 graduate of Barnstable High School. She had lived in New Bedford since 1948.
She was employed by the New Bedford School Department as a teachers aide and a bus aide for more than 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene and the Martha Briggs Educational Club. The schooner Ernestina was purchased in her name in 1948 on behalf of her late husband.
She was a foster parent for 28 years.
She is survived by three sons, Donald J. Mendes and the Rev. Joseph A. Mendes, both of New Bedford, and the Rev. Robert J. Mendes of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Elaine J. Monteiro of New Bedford; two stepsons, George Mendes of Marshfield and Larry Mendes of Pawtucket, R.I.; many foster children, including Shirley Magnett of Freetown, Annie Todman of New Bedford and Kim Hackney of Leavenworth, Kan.; a brother, Joseph Pina of Osterville; three sisters, Mary Mitte and Laura Andrade, both of New Bedford, and Annie Hull of Hyannis; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at International Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery there.
