Lois C. Fagan McCarthy, 73

Sarasota, Fla. - Lois Catherine Fagan McCarthy, 73, formerly of Hyannis, died Jan. 6, 2001, in Sarasota.
Born in Fall River, she lived in Boston and Hyannis as a child. She attended Barnstable High School and graduated in 1946. She was employed at Bride's China, Hyannis Jewelry and Pearlsteins.
In 1953, she moved to Fort Myers Beach, married Henry A. McCarthy Jr., and raised four sons. In 1968, she moved to Sarasota, where she was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church and was active in the Sarasota Historical Society. She loved the Cape, the beach and the sea.
Survivors include four sons, Patrick E. McCarthy of Nokomis, John F. McCarthy of Sarasota and Thomas C. McCarthy and Michael S. McCarthy, both of Longwood.

Grenith Rose, 74

Wrentham - Grenith M. (Rood) Rose, 74, a former Cape resident, died Jan. 5, 2001, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
She was the wife of Edward Rose. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 27.
Born in Natick, Mrs. Rose was raised in Hyannis and was a graduate of Barnstable High School. She also graduated from Boston University, valedictorian, Phi Beta Kappa.
Mrs. Rose was a teacher for 34 years, working nine years at the former Plainville High School and 25 years at Mendon-Upton Regional High School. She was also a basketball coach and driver education instructor.
Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Michael Rose of Roswell, Ga., Patrick Rose of Wrentham, John Rose of Menama, Bahrain, and Thomas Rose of Plainville; a sister, Kathleen Perry of Hyannis; and three grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4680.

Agnes D. Tenney, 89

Bourne - Agnes D. (Redington) Tenney, 89, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Bourne Manor.
She was the wife of the late Charles J. Tenney.
Born in East Boston, Mrs. Tenney was employed for many years in the accounting departments of U.S. Rubber Co. and the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.
Upon retiring, she was a homemaker who was devoted to her family.
Mrs. Tenney was a communicant of St. Brendan's Church in Dorchester and most recently of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Surviving are her children, Kathryn Shaughnessy of Barnstable, D. Agnes Tenney of Portland, Ore., Ellen V. Tims of Keezar Falls, Maine, Carolyn D. Matheson of Yarmouthport and Charles J. Tenney of Hyannis; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Anne "Nancy" Dobens.

John W. Thomas, 78

Hyannis - John "Jack" W. Thomas, 78, a former management analyst for the Pentagon and Otis Air Force Base, died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.
He was the husband of Muriel (Fielding ) Thomas for 44 years.
Mr. Thomas was born and raised in Pontiac, Mich., and attended Michigan State University and American University.
He flew with the 885th heavy bomber squadron (special) during World War II. He was an intelligence and manpower officer in the Air Force and a management analyst at Goddard Space Flight Center, the Pentagon and Otis Air Force Base.
Mr. Thomas was a former member of the Hyannis Yacht Club, Craigville Beach Association and the Otis Advisory Council. He was a member of a four-man bobsled team at "World's 1959" in St. Moritz. He enjoyed golf, gardening, the beach and helping out at Anderson Hardware in Centerville.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Megan Dixon of Marstons Mills and Sandra Dalpian of Waterford, Mich.; a son, Steven Thomas of Waterford, Mich.; a sister, Peggy Ragsdale of California; and 11 grandchildren.

William 'Willy' Weston, 68

Hyannis - William "Willy" Weston, 68, a longtime resident of Hyannis, died Nov. 21, 2001, at Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in New York, Mr. Weston worked in construction in the Syracuse, N.Y., area. He was a World War II veteran.

Virginia Cross, 90

Hyannis - Virginia (Haskins) Cross, 90, a resident of Hyannis, died Jan. 17, 2001, at a local nursing home.
She was the wife of the late Edward G. Cross.
Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, Mrs. Cross was educated in Auburn, Maine, and was a 1928 graduate of Barnstable High School. She also attended Wheaton College in Norton.
Mrs. Cross was the former co-owner of The Barnstable Patriot. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Hyannis for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne Toole of Centerville; a son, Robert Cross of Rockville, Md.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ann 'Jane' Eshbaugh, 70

Osterville ­ Ann "Jane" Arden (Abels) Eshbaugh, a former town councilor who started Barnstable's recycling program, died Jan. 20, 2001, at her home in Osterville. She was 70.
Born In Montclair, N.J., she was a graduate of Montclair High School and Lasell College in Newton. She moved to Osterville in 1963.
Mrs. Eshbaugh was a prominent figure on Barnstable's political landscape. She was a member of the board of health for 18 years and had served as its chairman, held a town council seat from 1995 to 1999, and served on the board of appeals and Sandy Neck Advisory Committee.
A key figure in the creation of the Barnstable Senior Center, Mrs. Eshbaugh was a director of the Barnstable Land Trust and the Osterville Village Association. She recently received the Jane Eshbaugh Community Service Award from the Town of Barnstable, which will be awarded annually.
Mrs. Eshbaugh was a member and president of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children's board of directors. She had been a member of the Cape Cod Sports Car Club in the 1960s and '70s and was a member of the Barnstable Comedy Club.
She was employed at the Wianno Club as assistant to the manager and most recently worked at Bush Gardens in Osterville.
She enjoyed gardening, golf, sailing, bridge, boating and world travel. She loved to attend theater, opera, and ballet performances and was a student of genealogy.
Mrs. Eshbaugh is survived by a son, Jeffrey A. Eshbaugh of Forestdale; a brother, William Abels of Southington, Conn.; a granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at John-Lawrence Funeral Home on Route 28 In Marstons Mills.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport 02675.

Paul N. Finnegan, 84

Hyannis - Paul N. Finnegan, 84, retired federal employee, died Jan. 16, 2001, at the Cape Cod Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Angele M. (Vercontaire) Finnegan.
Mr. Finnegan was born in Lowell and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He lived much of his life in Lowell, where he worked for the federal government as a textile inspector. He moved to Cape Cod in the 1970s following his retirement.
He was a member of the Irish American Club of Hyannis and a member of the Hyannis Elks.
Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hyannis was private.
