William F. McArdle, 89
St. Petersburg, Fla. - William F. McArdle, 89, a former Cape resident, died May 21, 2000, at a nursing home in Pinellas Park.
He was the husband of Margaret (Baxter) McArdle, who died in 1995.
Born and raised in Sandwich, Mr. McArdle graduated from Sandwich High School and from New Bedford Tech in 1933. He also lived in Hyannis for many years until 1973, when he moved to St. Petersburg.
Mr. McArdle worked as a salesman for E.C. Hall Co. in Hyannis, which later became the Millbrook Co. He retired in 1973.
He was a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club and a longtime member of the Elks.
Surviving are a niece, Sally B. Tournas of South Yarmouth; and three nephews, Hudson H. Baxter of Hyannis, Peter H. Baxter of Cotuit and Thomas H. Baxter of Coral Springs, Fla.

Renee M. Smith, 71
Cummaquid - Renee M. Smith, 71, a resident of Cummaquid, died May 24, 2000, at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late William F. Smith.
Born in Boston, Mrs. Smith was raised and educated in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School.
Before moving to the Cape, her family settled in Cohasset. They moved to Barnstable in 1966 and took over the family restaurant, The Dolphin of Barnstable, which has been a West Barnstable fixture for more than 50 years.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey W. Smith of Cummaquid; three daughters, Stacie M. Smith of Boston, Nancy J. Smith of Barnstable and Alison Piasecki of Cohasset; three sisters, Maureen Blando of Georgia, Joan Barton of Hyannis and Brenda Magri of Texas ; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl C. Anderson, 50
Hyannis - Carl C. Anderson, 50, of Hyannis, died May 28, 2000, at Jewish Memorial Hospital in Boston after a long illness.
Mr. Anderson was born in Cambridge. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Falmouth, of Cape Cod Community College and Boston State College.
Mr. Anderson was a former science teacher at Hyde Park Academy
He enjoyed cooking, skiing and golf.
Surviving are his mother, Leonore (Crosbie) Anderson of Mashpee; a son, Kyle C. Anderson of Centerville; a sister, Carol Elloisan of North Falmouth; and three nieces.

Charles H. Beelby, 71
Marstons Mills - Charles H. Beelby, 71, a retired General Motors executive, died May 27, 2000, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Gwendolyn H. (Holland) Beelby for 47 years.
Mr. Beelby was born in Michigan and grew up in the New England. He graduated from Wilbraham Academy in Wilbraham and received a bachelor's degree in economics from Tufts University.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Mr. Beelby joined the Oldsmobile division of General Motors. He remained with General Motors for 33 years and was the area fleet manager for the Philadelphia zone. He retired in Valley Forge, Pa., and moved to Cape Cod in 1993.
Mr. Beelby was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and an avid flyer of radio controlled model airplanes. At the time of his death he was serving as president of the Discover Flying R/C Club on Cape Cod. He was active in his neighborhood community and was president of the Homestead Resident Association.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Charles W. Beelby of Marstons Mills; a daughter, Susan E. Sterndale of Westborough; and two grandchildren.
Thomas R. Broadhurst, 73
Pittsfield - Thomas R. Broadhurst, 73, who leaves family on the Cape and Nantucket, died May 10, 2000, at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Tex.
He was the husband of Shirley (Cooper) Broadhurst of Westfield.
Born in Bayshore, N.Y., Mr. Broadhurst was raised and educated on Long Island, N.Y., and in Becket. He lived in Pittsfield for 51 years, where he was a communicant of St. Francis Church. He also wintered in Raymondville, Texas , for the past 13 years.
Mr. Broadhurst was a World War II Army veteran, serving as a private first class with Co. "A" 6th Armored Infantry Battalion in the Campaign of Central Europe. He received the Bronze Service Star and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal. He also served as a corporal with Battery "B" 864th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
Besides his wife of 51 years, he is survived by three sons, Thomas R. Jr. of Easthampton, David R. of Nantucket and Timothy A. of Westfield; two daughters, Patricia M. Shea of Southwick and Nancy L. Miner of Austin, Texas ; three brothers, Charles J. of Dalton, John O. of Agawam and Francis I. of Centerville; a sister, Kathleen Roy of Pownal, Vt.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joan M. 'Peg' Kenny
Waterbury, Conn. - Joan M. "Peg" (Hyde) Kenny, a resident of Waterbury and Osterville, died May 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Kenny.
Born in East Hampton, Mrs. Kenny was a 1941 graduate of East Hampton High School. She worked for the State Comptroller Raymond "Deke" Thatcher of Hartford, leaving after the birth of her first child.
After raising her three daughters, she returned to work at St. Mary's Hospital in the public affairs office. She retired in 1988 after 16 years of service.
A communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, she was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Msgr. Slocum No. 1 Ladies' Guild.
Surviving are three daughters, Joan Kenny Bardsley of Great Falls, Va., Patricia Kenny Sullivan of Andover, and Margaret Kenny of Brewster; three sisters, Mary Fox of East Hartford, Yvonne Cozzi of Portland and Anne Vaillencourt of Wakefield, R.I.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Bonnie F. Maki, 63
West Barnstable - Bonnie F. (Smith) Maki, 63, of West Barnstable, died May 29, 2000, at her home after a short illness.
She was the wife of Thomas A. Maki.
Mrs. Maki was born in DeQueen, Ark., and moved as a young child to Lubbock, Texas . She moved to Brockton in 1963, to Randolph in 1981, and to West Barnstable in 1985.
She worked as a real estate agent, made wedding gowns at the Meredith Shop, and for 18 years was a bank teller at Plymouth Home National & Brockton Credit Union. While living in Randolph she did volunteer work for the Baptist church, feeding the elderly. Mrs. Maki enjoyed arts and crafts, and loved reading and cooking.
Surviving besides her husband are her mother, Dorothy Nipp of Lubbock; two sons, Allan D. Satrape of Abington and Ronald L. Satrape of Bradford; a daughter, Regina M. Worster of North Easton; one stepson, Gary W. Maki of Raynham; three stepdaughters, Susan L. Jenkins of West Barnstable, Dr. Wendy Leslie of Wareham, and Melanie Semolik of New York; a brother, M. Floyd Smith of Lubbock; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Monica Norton, 90
Hyannis - Monica (Lavender) Norton, 90, a Cape resident since 1981, died June 1, 2000.
Born in Ireland, Mrs. Norton came to the United States at the age of 21. She moved to the Cape from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1981.
Mrs. Norton worked in private homes in Rhode Island before marrying and raising a family. She later worked as a house mother of nursing students at a hospital in New York State until retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Cape United Elderly.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary White of Centerville; a son, John Norton of Massachusetts; and two grandchildren.

Mary O'Leary, 90
Cedar Falls, Iowa - Mary (Sheehy) O'Leary, 90, who lived with family on Cape Cod and in Cedar Falls and in Ireland, died June 1, 2000, at the Western Nursing Home in Cedar Falls.
She was the wife of Dhonal S. O'Leary who died in 1960.
Mrs. O'Leary was born in Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland. In her early years, she was active with the Girl Scouts and the Cork Club.
A resident of Natick, Mass., for 56 years, she sold her home there in 1998 and lived part of the past two years with her daughters who live in Marstons Mills and in Cedar Falls.
Before she retired, Mrs. O'Leary was a seamstress at the former Jordan Marsh Co. at Shoppers World in Framingham.
A member and daily communicant of St. Patrick's Parish in Natick, she was a member of the parish Adoration Society.
Devoted to her family, Mrs. O'Leary was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress.
Survivors include three daughters, Deirdre Kayajan of Marstons Mills, Maureen O. Oates of Cedar Falls, and Joan O. Foley of North Grafton; a son, Brian P. O'Leary of Nazareth, Pa.; a sister, Nellie O'Driscoll of Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Sommer, 79
Osterville - Robert L. Sommer, 79, of Osterville and formerly of Belmont, died May 30, 2000, at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville.
He was the husband of Helen Marie (McCaffrey) Sommer.
Mr. Sommer was born in Cambridge. He grew up and lived for many years in Belmont, attending Belmont schools, Huntington Preparatory School, Harvard College and the American Institute of Banking.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater campaign. In 1947 he joined the First National Bank of Boston and continued his banking career as an officer of the Harvard Trust Company, serving in the Cambridge, Concord and Belmont branches. In 1986 he retired as vice president of Baybank Harvard Trust.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Elizabeth A. Harrigan of Needham; two sons, Thomas J. Sommer of Scituate and Robert A. Sommer of Ridgefield, Conn.; a sister, Eleanor M. O'Keefe of Needham; and seven grandchildren.
