John Francis Moore Fitzgerald, 85

Centerville ­ John Francis Moore Fitzgerald, 85, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at his Centerville home after a long illness.

He was the husband of Barbara A. (Ducey) Fitzgerald.

Born and raised in Boston, he was educated in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. He graduated from Harvard College in 1936 and the Harvard Business School in 1938.

He served in the Army during World War II in France and Germany. After his military career he started his career in education. He worked for The Manter Hall School in Cambridge. Later, he worked as a comptroller at the Pillar House in Newton. He retired from there after 14 years.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a past president of the Cape Cod chapter of S.C.O.R.E and a past member of the Barnstable American Legion. He also volunteered at the Barnstable Senior Center, where he helped with tax preparation.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James F. Fitzgerald of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; a daughter, Julie A. Fitzgerald of Nantucket; and one grandson.

A Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial followed at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Cape Cod, 923 Route 6A, Yarmouthport, Mass. 02675.

Eileen M. Flanagan, 78

Worcester ­ Eileen M. (Killoran) Flanagan, 78, who leaves family on the Cape, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of Thomas F. Flanagan, who died in 1968.

Born in Worcester, Mrs. Flanagan was a graduate of South High School. She was a waitress for many area restaurants, and in her last position, worked in the coat room at the former Wind Tiki Restaurant in Worcester.

She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ancient Order of Hibernian's Division 36 and a volunteer at Elder Home Care for several years.

Surviving are a son, William L. Roberts Jr. of Mashpee; a daughter, Peg A. Bloomfield of Worcester; two brothers, John J. Killoran of Worcester and Joseph P. Killoran of Centerville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Worcester. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ancient Order of Hibernian's, Division 36, 564 Millbury St., Worcester, Mass. 01610.

David James Good, 69

Pocasset ­ David James Good, 69, a retired car dealer formerly of Randolph, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth.

He was the husband of Mary E. (Maguire) Good.

Mr. Good was born in Brockton and was a graduate of Thayer Academy and in 1952 received a degree in history from Boston College.

A veteran of the Korean War, he received the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal before retiring from the military as a First Lt. in the Army.

After living in Randolph most of his life he moved to Pocasset seven years ago.

Mr. Good worked as an automobile dealer for the Good Brothers Ford dealership in Randolph for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

He was an avid sailor and enjoyed music and woodworking.

Mr. Good was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset where he served as Eucharistic Minister, lector and pastoral care member.

Besides his wife he leaves four sons, David J. Good Jr. of North Easton, Mark E. Good of Whitman, Michael W. Good of Pocasset, and Paul W. Good of Cotuit; a daughter Stephanie A. Chase of North Scituate; a brother, Gerald P. Good of Randolph; a sister Cynthia Williams of Newport, R.I.; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held at St. John the Evangelist Church on Shore Road in Pocasset.

Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Mugar Davenport Cancer Center, c/o Cape Cod Hospital, 27 Park Street, Hyannis, Mass. 02601.

Frederick Hardy, 83

Hyannis ­ Frederick "Fred" Hardy, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Pavilion in Hyannis after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Helen C. (Roberts) Hardy.

Mr. Hardy was born in Winter Park, Fla., where he attended grade school. He later moved to Orlando, Fla., where he completed his education.

He and his wife traveled and lived in various places, including Gouverneur, N.Y., and Philadelphia. They settled in Osterville in approximately 1950, and he worked as a chauffeur for the Donald K. David family of Osterville for more than 25 years.

After his retirement in the early 1980s, he and his wife moved to Hyannis.

Mr. Hardy was a member of the Masonic Lodge #4 in New Bedford, the Consistory Lodge #17 in Boston and the Shriners Lodge in Boston. He loved fishing, gardening and enjoyed playing golf.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by one son, Martin Moore of De Leon Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were at the Zion Union Church, Hyannis. Burial was private.

Joseph C. Harvey IV, 70

Hyannis ­ Joseph Chalmers Harvey IV, 70, a resident of Hyannis, died of a heart attack Dec. 1, 1999, at his home.

He was the husband of Laura May Lothrop (Burge) Harvey and of the late Edith Tufts Harvey.

Mr. Harvey served in Japan and Korea. He was serving in the Army reserves during his freshman year at Harvard College when he was recalled to active duty as a private first class in the Korean War.

Besides his wife, Mr. Harvey is survived by four sisters, Cecilia F. Avitabile of West Yarmouth, Ada Hughes Harvey of Washington , D.C., and Clara L. Harvey and Helen H. McCord Harvey, both of Quincy; two brothers, Luis L. Harvey of Brockton and Samuel E. Harvey of Gainesville, Fla.; 17 nephews; 11 nieces; and many grandnephews and grandnieces.

Burial and a graveside service were held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Eleanor B. Holmes, 90

Barnstable ­ Eleanor B. Holmes, 90, a longtime resident of Cape Cod, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at her home.

She was the wife of the late W. Dana Holmes for 60 years.

Mrs. Holmes was born and raised on Campobello Island, New Brunswick. She was a graduate of Eastport High School in Eastport, Maine. She later graduated from the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing.

She lived in Lynn until moving to the Cape in 1936.

She was a member of the Unitarian Church in Barnstable.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by a daughter, Harriette Biarrio of Watertown; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Dean C. Holmes.

A memorial service was held at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable. Interment will be at a later date.

Edward W. Kara, 84

Marstons Mills ­ Edward W. Kara, 84, a retired aerospace engineer, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at the Hospice House.

He was the husband of the late Catherine C. (Hood) Kara.

Born, raised and educated in New York City, Mr. Kara served in the Army Air Force during World War II.

After the war, he worked for several years as a watchmaker in New York City before becoming an engineer in the aerospace industry, working in the New York and New Hampshire areas.

Mr. Kara moved to Marstons Mills in the early 1980s. He was a member of Osterville Men's Club and Osterville Veterans and was a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital.

He was an avid fisherman and woodworker.

Surviving are a son, Edward G. Kara of Halesite, N.Y.; and two granddaughters.

Funeral services and burial were private.

Oscar D. Kearney, 85

Marstons Mills ­ Oscar D. Kearney, 85, a Marstons Mills resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in Hyannis after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy Mae (Wilson) Kearney.

Born in Everett, Mr. Kearney graduated from Boston English High School in 1932. After graduating, he worked in several Boston restaurants before moving to the Cape in 1938.

Mr. Kearney worked in domestic services for many years. He later became the owner and operator of Kearney Sanitation in the 1960s. In 1993 he sold the company.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons, Elizabeth Mendes of Marstons Mills, Michael Kearney of Hyannis, Paul Kearney of Hyannis, Joyce Maddox of Hyannis, Barbara Kearney of Boston, Yvonne Kearney of Hyannis and Darrin Kearney of Connecticut; a brother, Charles Kearney of New York; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephew.

He was also the father of the late Gary, Bruce and Rosemary Kearney.

A service was held at the Zion Union Church, Hyannis.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, 3055 Main St., P.O. Box 953, Barnstable, Mass. 02634.

Teresa Leschernier, 75

Quincy ­ Teresa (Grant) Leschernier, 75, who leaves family on Cape Cod, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Boston Medical Center.

She was the wife of the late Henry C. Leschernier.

A graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls, Mrs. Leschernier was a homemaker, a past president of the North Quincy Catholic Women's Club, and a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Sodality.

Mrs. Leschernier is survived by two daughters, Denise M. Leschernier of Quincy, Suzanne T. Welch of Centerville; a sister, Margaret E. Walsh of Quincy; and four grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
