Helen J. McQuillan, 78
Osterville Helen J. (Riley) McQuillan, 78, an Osterville resident since 1981, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
She was the wife of Francis C. McQuillan Sr., to whom she was married for 53 years on Tuesday.
Born in Northampton, she was a graduate of St. Michael's High School in Northampton. She moved to Osterville in 1981.
She was a communicant and extraordinary minister at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Northampton and very active in church, school, Girl Scouts and civic affairs in Northampton.
Besides her husband, she is survived by seven children, Darby McQuillan of Osterville, Maureen A. Walker of Northborough, Nancy M. Leone of Marstons Mills, Denise M. Goggins of Northampton, Lynell M. Branch of Leeds, Tierney E. Richi of Florence and Gaelyn B. Smith of Brookline, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Osterville. Burial was private.

Ernestine M. Washington , 68
Hyannis Ernestine May (Lomba) Washington , 68, a Cape native, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness.
She was the wife of George Lincoln Washington for 51 years.
Born in Hyannis, Mrs. Washington was educated in the Barnstable school system. She worked in a number of restaurants and later became a nurses aide in area nursing homes.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making afghans, watching her favorite soap opera and, especially, spending time with her dog Peaches.
Surviving besides her husband are a brother, George Lomba of Salem, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held in Oak Neck Cemetery, Hyannis.

James White , 82
South Dennis James White , 82, a carpenter and builder, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999 at the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation Center in South Dennis after a long illness.
He was the husband of Alma (Gates) White since 1942.
Born in Tewksbury, Mr. White moved to Dennisport with his family in 1924, remaining a Dennis resident throughout his life. He attended the Ezra H. Baker School in Dennis and graduated from the old Yarmouth High School in 1936.
A protégé of ship model expert Robert Innis of South Dennis, he was commissioned by the town of Dennis to build a model of the "Belle of the West," which is exhibited in the Dennis town office.
Mr. White entered the Army in 1940, after joining the Massachusetts National Guard 211th Co. in 1939. He was appointed a warrant officer, junior grade in 1942 and served in North Africa, Italy and the Philippines, through 1946. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard in 1946.
His military awards included the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, Army Occupation Medal (Italy), Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal.
After discharge from the service, Mr. White completed a veterans training program and became a qualified draftsman.
A past commander of the American Legion Post 292, West Harwich, and later a member of the Orleans Post, Mr. White spearheaded efforts establishing the Veterans Memorial in West Dennis, honoring Joseph Merril, who was killed in action in Vietnam, and the memorial for veteran Mike Stacy in Dennisport.
Mr. White was honored as a parade marshal for the Dennis Memorial Day observance in 1997. He was a 15-year member of the Dennis Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and a treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America, both during the 1950s and early 1960s. He was an occasional part-time musician and a member and former business manager for the American Federation of Musicians, old Cape Cod Local No. 155.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, James E. White of West Barnstable; a daughter, Judith White of Clifton Park, N.Y.; three brothers, John White of West Yarmouth, Frederick White of Hopkinton and Edward White of West Barnstable; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at Christ Church Episcopal, Harwich Port.

Aino 'Ina' Anderson, 77
Yarmouthport - Aino "Ina" Anderson, 77, a Cape native, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.
She was the wife of Charles E. Anderson for 51 years.
Born and raised in West Yarmouth, Mrs. Anderson graduated from John Simpkins School and remained a resident of Yarmouth all her life.
Mrs. Anderson was an avid gardener, loved to cook, enjoyed needlework and was an enthusiastic follower of local sports teams.
She was a devoted member of the West Yarmouth Congregational Church and taught Sunday School for many years.
Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Steven Anderson of Sandwich, Richard Anderson of Long Beach, Calif., and Alan Anderson of Newbury Park, Calif.; four sisters, Vilma Murray of Hyannis, Mary Halunen of West Yarmouth, Taimi Royer of Centerville and Valma Sloane of Los Altos, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Woodside Cemetery
in Yarmouthport.

Clelia B. 'Chris' Carissimo, 92
Hyannis Clelia B. "Chris" Carissimo, 92, formerly of Boston and Brookline, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999 at the Royal Nursing and Alzheimer's Center in Falmouth.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Marius Carissimo.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a licensed practical nurse for more than 30 years in New York and Boston, working for her husband and for the late Dr. Louis Nason.
Surviving are a daughter, Adele Barese of Osterville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Katherine Landry.

Anna M. Crowell
Westport, R.I. - Anna Mae (Hallett) Crowell, formerly of Hyannis, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1999, at the Medi Plex of Westport.
She was the wife of the late Harold Kelley.
Born and educated in Dennis, Mrs. Crowell lived in South Yarmouth for 30 years before moving to Hyannis in 1951, where she lived until recently. She had worked as a home health aide for the Visiting Nurse Association for 18 years.
Mrs. Crowell was a member of the Supreme Counsel, Order of the Amaranth, Cape Cod Court No. 12 and was the first trustee and an officer for four years.
She loved music and flowers.
Surviving are a son, Richard Kelley of Westport; a niece; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Yarmouth.
Norman M. Dow, 84
Centerville - Norman M. Dow, 84, a former salesman and appliance business owner, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at Eagle Pond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dennis after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Marjorie S. Dow for 63 years.
Born in Brighton, Mr. Dow attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton High School.
He worked for General Electric before opening his own appliance business in Wellesley.
He was also a salesman for Peter Fuller Cadillac in Boston for 25 years.
He was a summer resident of Pocasset for many years. Upon retirement, Mr. Dow and his wife moved to Centerville in 1975. He worked at Osterville House and Garden until the late 1980s.
Mr. Dow was a professional singer all his life. He was a church soloist for several churches in the Newton area and also led community sing-alongs. While living in Newton, he was a Sunday school teacher at Union Church in Waban.
He enjoyed chair caning, furniture refinishing and sailing in Buzzards Bay with his sons.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Bruce M. Dow of San Diego, David S. Dow of Hampton, N.H., William W. Dow of Bradford, Charles B. Dow of South Orleans and Richard M. Dow of Pocasset; two sisters, Marjorie M. Dow of Mashpee and Virginia Richmond of Tigard, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at West Parish Congregational Church, West Barnstable. Burial was private.

Robert F. Kirby, 78
Barnstable - Robert Fredrick Kirby, 78, a retired home builder, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a long illness.
He was the husband of Marie (Day) Kirby, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in July of this year, and of Mary Josephine (O'Neil) Kirby, who died in 1947.
Born in Templeton, Mr. Kirby lived in Leominster for 25 years before moving to the Cape in 1971. He was a furniture craftsman and a retired custom home builder.
A World War II Army veteran, he served in Company D, 112th Infantry, in France and Germany; landed on Omaha Beach six days after the D-Day invasion began; participated in the liberation of Paris in 1945; and received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct and campaign medals.
Before his illness, he loved fishing, shellfishing, woodworking and oil painting. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren, all of whom called him "Bumpa."
He was a member of the Federated Church of Hyannis.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Arlene Richner of Hingham, Kathleen Milholo and Roberta Kirby, both of Hyannis, and Jennifer Laverdy of Burke, Va.; a sister, Olive Comeau of West Yarmouth; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

William N. Lamb, 78
Sandwich - William Norton Lamb, 78, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999 at his Sandwich home after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Frances (Creeron) Lamb.
Mr. Lamb served four years of combat duty during World War II with the Army in the Philippines.
A Providence native, he moved his family to Cape Cod nearly 50 years ago, and has lived in Sagamore and Sandwich.
Mr. Lamb was a familiar in auto shops around the Cape during his career as an insurance adjuster and special interest auto appraiser. He appraised many of the antique cars at Heritage Plantation.
He was also a lover of dogs, including his Labrador retriever Jake, and enjoyed boating.
Surviving are three daughters, Ellen (Lamb) Mycock of Waquoit, Andrea Lamb of Sandwich, and Louise Lamb of Centerville; a son, Bill Lamb Jr. of Sandwich; ten grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery
in Bourne was private.
