July 11, 2003

Mary “Louise” (Jacob) Petrell, July 11, 2003, age 83, a resident of Rockland the past 62 years, formerly of Abington. Beloved wife of Albert R. Petrell, mother of one son: Albert Raymond Petrell Jr. of Pembroke, and two daughters: Barbara L. Schulz of Rhode Island and Cheryl A. Eaton of Hopkinton, MA. Grandmother to Jonathan Schulz of Boston and Catherine Eaton of Hopkinton and sister of Clifton Jacob of Carver.

She passed away following a long illness at the Colonial Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Weymouth. Born in Abington, she was the daughter of James Jacob and Rose Anna (Jacob) Jacob.

Mary “Louise” Petrell, a graduate of Abington High School, was a homemaker. She also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s former company, “Petrell Plumbing & Heating.” She enjoyed arts & crafts and cooking. A member of the Rockland Garden Club, she also volunteered for Norwell’s V.N.A. Previously she was a teacher’s aid for Holy Family School in Rockland.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Tuesday, July 15 at 9:30 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth Street (Route 58), Abington at 10:30 A.M. Interment will take place in the family lot at St. Patrick’s cemetery in Rockland.

Friends wishing, memorial remembrances may be made in memory of Mary Louise to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, In Memory of Mary "Louise" Petrell, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.

Visiting hours Monday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M.

Ruby Angel Ruzycki
July 09, 2003

Infant Ruby Angel Ruzycki of Attleboro, formerly of Abington, passed away on July 9, 2003. She was the infant daughter of Daniel J. and Sandra E. (Malone) Ruzycki. Sister of the late Theodore Ruzycki and grandson of John R. and Shirley (Miller) Ruzycki of Abington and Alice (Connor) Malone and the late David Malone of Abington. Also survived by her god parents, Nancy and Steve Sepe of Foxboro and several aunts and uncles, including the late Richard Ruzycki.

Funeral Services were private. Memorial contributions may be made to the MIS Parent Group, Women & Infant Hospital, In Memory of Ruby Angel Ruzycki, 101 Dudley Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02905-2499.

Avito di Cicco, July 19, 2003, age 89, of Hanover. Husband of the late Edith (Johnson) di Cicco and loving father of Dennis di Cicco of Sudbury; loving brother of Hilda Grande of Brockton, Olive Belcher of Abington, and Leona Lowe of Holbrook; Loving grandfather of Hannah di Cicco of Sudbury; Survived by lifelong friend Barbara Chandler of Abington; Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Avito di Cicco, 89, passed away at the Mildred Alford Nursing Home in Abington following a short illness. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Michele di Cicco and Lucia (Gravio) di Cicco

He was a graduate of Abington High School and also graduated from Boston Museum of Fine Arts Museum School in Boston, where he studied art and sculpture. For more than 10 years he worked for Settimelli & Son in Quincy.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was also a lifelong artist. He was instrumental in the development of the Communication Center for Fire and Police in Hanover in the early 1960’s.

Funeral service will be held at the Quealy and Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street (Just off Rte. 58 near North School) Abington Tuesday July 22 at 11 a.m. Calling hours have been omitted. Interment will take place at Hanover Centre Cemetery, Hanover.

Lawrence J. Robertson
July 21, 2003

Lawrence Joseph Robertson, July 21, 2003, age 74, of Abington, formerly of Dorchester. Survived by his loving wife, Barbara L. (Arnold) Robertson; father of son, Mark Robertson (wife, Michelle) of San Diego, California, and daughters, Kathy Gorham (husband, Rick) of Quincy, Theresa Robertson of Weymouth, step-daughter Linda Dickey (husband, Joe) of Abington, Laura Filipeli of Aurora, Colorado, and step-son Larry Jarrins (wife, Holly) of Braintree. Brother of Dorothy Kamilewicz of Charlestown and the late John Robertson. Also survived by nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence J. Robertson, 74, passed away suddenly at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of John and Celia (McManus) Robertson. He attended Boston Public schools and the Wagner School of Art. On March 30, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a WWII veteran.

A self-employed carpenter for twenty-five years, Mr. Robertson recently retired as of July 16, 2003. Formerly of Dorchester, he lived in Abington for the past six years.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, (just off Route 58 near North School), ABINGTON, on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 8:00 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment will take place in the family lot at Blue Hill cemetery in Braintree.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Anne M. (Murphy) McFarland
July 20, 2003

Anne M. (Murphy) McFarland, age 71, of Hull, a homemaker, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Mrs. McFarland enjoyed boating, walking, camping and the beach. She lived in Hull for more than sixty-five years.

Born in Newton, she was the daughter of Francis Murphy and Catherine (Sherlock) Murphy. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Newton.

Wife of the late Denman McFarland, she is survived by six sons, Richard McFarland, Stephen McFarland, Scott McFarland, David McFarland, Kenneth McFarland and Glen McFarland all of Hull; three daughters, Kim McFarland and Cheryl Jorgensen, both of Hull, and Denise Hurley of Scituate. Loving sister of Ruth Benjamin of New Jersey and Marie Calvi of Hull, William Murphy of Newton and the late Marjorie Burns and Francis Murphy. Loving grandmother of AnneMarie, Stephanie, Matthew, Jeffery, Gregory, and Riley; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at St. Ann’s Church, Samoset Avenue and Lewis Street in Hull. Rev. William G. Williams will officiate.

Visiting is 8:00 - 9:00 A.M. on Friday at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School) ABINGTON.

Thomas R. Workman
July 28, 2003

Thomas R. Workman, age 42, of Marshfield, formerly of Abington, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2003, following a sudden illness. He was the husband of Claudia A. (Black) Workman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, Russell and Ethel (Douglas) Workman of New Hampshire, also his loving children: Steven R., Vincent T., and Alex M. Workman, all of Halifax, and loving step-children: Heather A. DeBruyn and Michael S. DeBruyn, both of Marshfield. Brother of Judy Mills of Pennsylvanis, James Workman of New Hampshire, Nancy Callahan of Dighton, William Workman of Weymouth, Carol Curran of Virginia and Marsha Cullen of Brockton.

Born in Quincy, he was graduate of Abington High School and attended Massasoit Community College in Brockton. He made his home in Marshfield since moving there from Abington seven years ago.

Mr. Workman was employed as a welder for Vacuum Process Technology Company in Plymouth. He enjoyed baseball, particularly the Boston Red Sox, and was an avid gardener.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School), ABINGTON. Interment will be in Mount Vernon cemetery in Abington.

Friends wishing, memorial remembrances may be sent to: Abington Little League, In Memory of Thomas R. Workman, 139 Colonial Road, Abington, MA 02351.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday (July 31, 2003) from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M.

Freda Mary Reed
July 09, 2003

Freda M. Reed, formerly of Brockton, died recently at South Shore Nursing Facility in Rockland after a long illness. Mrs. Reed was born in Chester, England, on August 6, 1909. She was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Horrocks) Flood. She proudly became a naturalized citizen on April 25, 1996 and received a letter of congratulations from former President Clinton.

She was a member of the South Shore Campers #125. Her hobbies included travel, line dancing and shooting pool.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her son, Ernest E. Whynock of Brockton, a nephew: William Irving of Douglasville, Georgia, and a host of friends, among them: Glynna Field and Helen Bogdanoff, both of Brockton. She was the mother of the late Elfeda M. Hannigan.

A memorial service will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School) ABINGTON, on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Paul Taylor will officiate.

Gebhard Eisele
July 28, 2003

Gebhard K. Eisele, age 72, passed away in Boston at the New England Medical Center on Monday, July 28, 2003.

Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Carl and Marie Elisabeth (Von Koeller) Eisele. Mr. Gebhard was a veteran serving in the United States Army during peace time.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as an engineer draftsman for a Park Service.

Upon request of his family, funeral services are to be private.

Edward "Ed" J. McSweeney
February 08, 2004

Edward J. McSweeney, 84, resident of Abington the past 50 years, formerly of Brockton, passed away on February 8, 2004 at the Life Care Center in West Bridgewater following a short illness. He was the husband of the late Helynn C. (Coughlin) McSweeney. He is survived by a son, Shaun C. McSweeney of Abington; a daughter, Anne Bartlett of Tampa, Florida and two grandchildren; Erinn A. Bartlett of Los Angeles, CA., and Brooks P. Bartlett Jr. of Tampa, Florida.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked for more than 34 years at The Enterprise as a circulation manager. Mr. McSweeney came to work at The Enterprise as a part-time truck driver in 1956 and in his 34 years with the firm rose through various positions in the shipping room to the position of circulation manager. He also formerly worked for various news agencies, which distributed Boston newspapers locally among them the Brockton News Agency, Maguire Brothers and Mullare News Agency.

Born In Brockton, he was the son of the late Terrence P. and Susan (Flynn) McSweeney. He grew up in Brockton and was a 1938 graduate of Brockton High School. He moved to Abington 50 years ago.

Mr. McSweeney served in the U.S. Army during World War II, including overseas duty. While in the Army during the war he served in the 97th Field Hospital Medical Detachment. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon.

In his younger days, McSweeney was an active athlete playing softball with the Kay Jewelers and YMCA softball teams.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday (February 11, 2004) at St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth Street (Route 58), in ABINGTON at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Massachusetts National cemetery in Bourne. Friends wishing, memorial remembrances may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, In Memory of Edward McSweeney, 129 Morgan Drive, Norwood, MA 02062.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday (February 10, 2004) from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Ruth E. (Murray) Hayes
February 05, 2004

Ruth E. (Murray) Hayes, 88, of Abington, a homemaker, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Colony House Nursing Home in Abington after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Hayes.

Born in Boston, she was a resident of Abington for the past 33 years, formerly of Weymouth and Dorchester. She was a graduate of Dorchester High School.

Mrs. Hayes was a a member of the Wollaston Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Progress Circle at the Union Congregational Church of Braintree and Lucey B's Charity group.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading.

She is survived by a son, Richard Hayes of Abington; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was mother to the late Robert M. Hayes.

Her funeral services will be private.

Wilma (Dickal) Bentley
February 06, 2004

Wilma (Dickal) Bentley, 78, of Abington, a retired secretary for Bell Telephone in Canada, died Friday, February 6, 2004 after a brief illness.

Born in Canada, she had also lived in Weymouth before settling in Abington 40 years ago.

Mrs. Bentley was a member of All Saints Church in Whitman.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Bentley of Abington. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen (Chornley) Dickal who were both born in Ukraine.

Services are private and there is no visitation.

Gloria (Columbo) Caplice
February 18, 2004

Gloria (Colombo) Caplice, 79, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton after a lengthy illness.

Born in Brockton, daughter of the late Vincent and Concetta (Ippolito) Colombo, she was a graduate of Brockton High School.

Mrs. Caplice was a homemaker who loved cooking and animals.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Caplice of Brockton; two sons, Philip M. Caplice of So. Weymouth and Bruce K. Caplice of Brockton; two brothers, Vincent Colombo Jr. of Brockton and Louis Colombo of Yarmouth; a sister, Jeannette Small of Bridgewater; a granddaughter, Jillian Caplice of So. Weymouth and many nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Carmen Frawley and Lucy Saba.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams St. (just off Route 58 near North School) ABINGTON on Monday, February 23, at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget's Church, 455 Plymouth St. (Route 58) ABINGTON at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's cemetery in Rockland.

Visiting is 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. (February 22, 2004)

Burial will take place in Bulowice, Poland at Parish cemetery at a later date.
