Oscar N. Dubreuil

Oscar Dubreuil, 84, of Mattapoisett died peacefully at Forest View Nursing Home, Wareham, Friday March 5, 2004. He was the husband of Rita (Jusseaume) Dubreuil, they were married
59 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Napoleon and Alice (Masse) Dubreuil, he lived in Mattapoisett for 50 years and was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
Mr. Dubreuil worked for A&P; for many years before retiring as an assistant manager in 1970.
He was a lifetime member of the Fin Fur Feather Club and a charter member of the Wampanoag Camping Chapter. His greatest joy was his family. He loved gardening and could often be seen on his daily walks in Mattapoisett. He was a quiet gentle man that will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his widow, a son, Leo Dubreuil of Wareham; a daughter, Cheryl Younghans, and her husband John, of Madison, Alabama; his 4 grandsons, Michael, Scott, Jason and Joshua; 1 great-grandson and 1 great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.
He was the loving father of the late Diane Dubreuil and the brother of the late George Dubreuil, Leo Dubreuil, Albert Dubreuil and Gerard Dubreuil.

Rita A. Dubreuil

Rita A. (Jusseaume) Dubreuil, 82, of Mattapoisett died on Monday April 5, 2004 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Oscar N. Dubreuil, who sadly passed away on March 5, 2004; they were married
for 59 years.
Born in New Bedford, the youngest of fifteen children of the late Joseph A. and Rosalie (Jusseaume) Jusseaume, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Mattapoisett in 1954.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
Mrs. Dubreuil was formerly employed by New Bedford Manufacturing for many years until her retirement.
She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Worker's Union and a charter member of the Wampanoag Camping Chapter. She loved camping and sewing.
"Meme" was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always treasured spending time with her family. Her greatest joy was her family and they will miss her warm hugs and loving ways.
Survivors include a son, Leo G. Dubreuil of Wareham; a daughter, Cheryl J. Younghans, and her husband John, of Madison, Alabama; a sister, Doris Martin of New Bedford; four grandsons, Michael, Scott, Jason and Joshua; and two great-grandchildren.
She was the loving mother-in-law of the late Diane Dubreuil, and sister of the late Romeo Jusseaume, Claudia Jusseaume, Napolean Jusseaume, Blanche Jusseaume, Alice Jusseaume, Alfred Jusseaume, Normand Jusseaume, Paul Jusseaume, Claire Sansoucy, Olivine Metivier, Rose Tetreault and Aldea Dupont.

Lucy M. (Dias) Fernandes, 84 of Mattapoisett died April 8, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Edwin A. Fernandes and daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (DeCosta) Dias.
Mrs. Fernandes was born in New Bedford, raised in Dartmouth and lived in New Bedford many years before moving to Mattapoisett in 1985.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
Lucy was formerly employed by Acushnet Company for many years until her retirement.
Survivors include 2 sons, Edwin A. Fernandes and Victor F. Fernandes, both of Mattapoisett, a brother, John Dias of Warwick, RI; a sister, Sarah Ingles of Dartmouth; 3 grandchildren, Edwin A. Fernandes, III of Wareham, Robert D. Fernandes of New Bedford and Stacey M. Leonardo of Mattapoisett; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Joseph Dias, Julio Dias, Manuel Dias, William Dias, Grace Cebula and Lillian Araujo.

Norman W. Roylance, Sr.

Norman W. "127" Roylance, Sr., 77, of Mattapoisett died June 12, 2002 at Our Lady's Haven after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of the late Beryl (Heuberger) Roylance, and son of the late Doris E. (Wilcox) and Samuel Roylance, Jr.
Mr. Roylance was born in New Bedford and had lived in Westport before moving to Mattapoisett in 1949.
He was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, and a former choir member and sexton of his church.
Mr. Roylance was formerly employed as a testboard operator with New England Telephone and Telegraph for over 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He had been a volunteer police officer for the Town of Mattapoisett for several years.
Mr. Roylance served in the U.S. Army during World War II with Company C 743rd Tank Battalion. He participated in the battles and campaigns of the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe receiving the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He later served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Westport.
He was a member of Noquochoke Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Westport for over 50 years, the Aleppo Temple Shrine AAONMS of Boston and the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett. He was a graduate of Westport High School, class of 1943.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Susan N. Roylance and Cyndy R. Hebert, both of Mattapoisett, Beth R. Szeto of Hyannis, and Ruth E. Roylance of Claremont, NH; a son, Norman W. Roylance, Jr., of Laytonsville, MD; a sister, Elsie Buess of North Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edith Almeida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church Saturday, June 15th at 10 AM.

Martin Bauer

Martin J. "Mickey" Bauer, 86, Of Mattapoisett died June 13, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Elsie G. (Washburn) Bauer, and son of the late Joseph and Margaret (McGrath) Bauer.
Mickey was born in New Bedford and had lived in Mattapoisett for 83 years.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
Mickey was formerly employed as a custodian at the Center School in Mattapoisett for 19 years until his retirement in 1985. He had previously worked for the 7-up Bottling Company and H.P. Hood Milk Company. He was a firefighter for the Town of Mattapoisett and for Otis Air Force Base, and served as an auxiliary police officer for the Mattapoisett Police Department.
Mickey served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as a sergeant with the 353rd Army Air Force Base Unit involved with chemical warfare at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon, the American Theatre Campaign ribbon and the Good Conduct medal.
He was a member of the Florence Eastman American Legion Post 280 in Mattapoisett and the Harold S. Nickerson Disabled Veterans Chapter 118 in Westport
Survivors include a son, Michael Bauer, and his wife Jodi, of Mattapoisett; 2 daughters, Elizabeth Smith, and her husband Tim, and Kathleen Souza, all of Mattapoisett; 2 sisters, Catherine Mello of California and Mary Keane of Mattapoisett; 5 grandchildren, Garrett Bauer, Freemin Bauer, Holly Smith, Kerrin Souza and Kayla Souza, all of Mattapoisett; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edmund Bauer, Joe Bauer and Helen Bauer.

James M. Cain, Jr.
November 29, 2002
James Matthew Cain, Jr., of Marion, MA and The Villages, FL, an educator in New England and New York for 37 years died Friday, November 29th, 2002 of congestive heart failure at the Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, FL. He was 75.
James, known as "Jim", was born and raised in Belmont Massachusetts, the son of James M. Cain and Kathryn L. (Ryan) Cain. He was enlisted in the Navy Air Corps from 1945 to 1949. He went on to receive his undergraduate degree in Economics and his Master's Degree in Education from Tufts University.
His career in education began as a teacher in Connecticut, and continued in 1953 as a principal in Brewster, Massachusetts where, to this day, he is still remembered by his students. He was a principal in Duxbury, Massachusetts for many years. In 1968, he moved to Manhasset, New York to become the principal of Shelter Rock School, where he stayed for five years. During that time he integrated the school under court order, something that he is well-remembered for in that community. He returned to Massachusetts in 1973 and spent the next 15 years as a principal in Needham, Massachusetts.
He loved the town of Marion and, while he was working, served as a member of the Finance Committee. When he retired his interest in education continued and he was elected to the Marion School Board, and was a member and Chairman for 6 years. He was an avid sailor and member of the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion.
He was, above all, devoted to his family. He and his wife, Rita Gwendolyn (McGuinness) Cain were lucky enough to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 26th of this year. He also leaves his children: James M. Cain, III of Boston, Carol Cain Farrington of Marion and Naples, Florida, Richard Cain of Berlin, Massachusetts, Kathryn Meighan of Weston, Connecticut, and Leslie Macina of Marion; his brother, Edward Cain of Massachusetts, and 10 grandchildren.

Dorothy D. Gardner

Dorothy D. (Devoll) Gardner, 91, of Mattapoisett died Saturday December 7, 2002 suddenly at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens, South Carolina while visiting relatives. She was the wife of the late George O. Gardner, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Higham) Devoll, she lived in New Bedford and Mattapoisett for most of her life.
She was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church.
Mrs. Gardner was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mattapoisett Women's Club. She was a graduate of the House in the Pines School in Norton and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.
Survivors include a son, George O. Gardner III and his wife Karen of Acton; a daughter, Louise Green and her husband Edward of Sunset, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Sarah Goerges and her husband Claus of Marion and George O. Gardner IV and his wife Donna of Fitchburg; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette Langlois and Phyllis Dixon, both of Dartmouth.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday December 12, 2002 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett. Burial in Rural cemetery in New Bedford will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnnycake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740 or to Cannon Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 188, Pickens, SC 29671.
Stephen S. Day
December 18, 2002
Stephen S. Day, 87, died at his home in Marion, Massachusetts on Wednesday December 18, 2002. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on January 4, 1915, the son of Edna (Schwartz) and Clarence Mulford Day. He grew up in Jackson, Michigan, but lived for many years in Broad Brook, Connecticut and North Granby, Connecticut. He worked in the automotive parts business until the mid-1950s when he established the Stephen Day Insurance Agency. In Connecticut, he was active in the Hartford Jaycees and the Windsor Locks Rotary Club, particularly working with the Junior Achievement Program. In 1979 Mr. Day retired to Marion, Massachusetts.
Mr. Day leaves his beloved wife of 31 years, Edna Marie Hebert Day and his sister, Adrienne Maly of Winter Park, FL. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Morse Day. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Susanne Erickson of Belfast, Maine, Mary Seymour of Monroe, Maine, Stephen Day of Old Chatham, New York, Karen Girondel of Lexington, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Pierce of Waldo, Maine; and by his stepchildren, Alan Hebert of Thorndike, Maine, Stephen Hebert of North Granby, Connecticut, and Elaine Hall of Torrington, Connecticut, as well as 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 28, 2002 at 1:30 PM in the First Congregational Church of Marion, 28 Main St., Marion, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 28 Sconticut Neck Rd., Fairhaven, Massachusetts 02719.
