Bishop Robert F. Hibbs, Sr.

Bishop Robert F. Hibbs, Sr., 58, of New Bedford died Saturday May 31, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Louise (Stringer) Hibbs, whom he married
in 1967.
Born in Boston, the son of the late Francis and Leokadia (Jagodynski) Hibbs, he moved to Lynn at an early age. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1962. He attended the Gospel Tabernacle Bible School from 1964-1967.
Under the direction of the late district Elder Lysle Jordan of Lynn, he was baptized in Jesus' Name and filled with the Holy Spirit in 1964. Led to the Lord by Bishop Witcher, he attended the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Boston where he was ordained to the ministry by Bishop Obie Williams, presiding pastor. He served as the Assistant Pastor of the Gospel Tabernacle from 1970-1972. He moved to New Bedford in 1977 to become the pastor of the Apostolic Faith Assembly. He later founded the Church of Jesus Christ of All Nations where he served as pastor for many years. In 1984, the late Bishop Robert Green of Bronx, New York, ordained him as a Bishop in the Apostolic Faith.
Bishop Hibbs had served as the president of the Massachusetts State Council of the Pentacostal Assemblies of the World. Prior to his full-time ministerial service, he had been employed by the General Electric Company in Lynn for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rev. Robert F. Hibbs, Jr. and his wife Janice of New Bedford; a daughter, Stacey Young and her husband Troy of New Bedford; a foster daughter, Sherry Lopes of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Arthur Hibbs of North Andover; 2 sisters, Lori Duff of Peabody and Phyllis Caliri of Lynn; 8 grandchildren, Tre-Zahn Hibbs, Shai-Del Hibbs, Tina Hibbs, Timothy Hibbs, Shaniah Hibbs, Shawn Miller, Navisha Davis, and Christopher Lopes; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Easter and George Stringer of Glenwood, Alabama; sveral sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and spiritual children. He was the father of the late Tina Louise Hibbs, and brother of the late Walter S. Hibbs.
His Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday June 7, 2003 at 8 AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of All Nations, 105 Purchase St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
Dionel "Dan" DeMoura

Dionel "Dan" DeMoura, 65, of New Bedford died Friday July 25, 2003 unexpectedly at home. He was the son of Eugene R. Hodson of New Bedford and the late Alice (Gomes) Hodson.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he served in the U.S. Air Force form 1955-1959.
Mr. DeMoura was formerly employed as an administrator for A.B.F. Trucking Company.
He was a member of the Washington Club.
Survivors include his father; 2 daughters, Lisa Medeiros and Karen Martin, both of Dartmouth; a brother, Edward DeMoura of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Shane Martin, Rachel Medeiros, Sara Medeiros, and Faith Medeiros; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late David DeMoura and Gary DeMoura, and grandfather of the late Traci DeMoura.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday August 2, 2003 at 10 AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, Slocum Rd., North Dartmouth. Visiting hours are omitted.
Keone M. Mendes
July 25, 2003
Keone M. Mendes, 24, of New Bedford died July 25, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital unexpectedly.
He was the son of Darlene E. Mendes of New Bedford.
Keone was born in Boston and lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was employed by Pomerantz Staffing Alternatives in New Bedford.
Keone enjoyed playing basketball.
Survivors include his mother; his grandparents, Mary Mendes of Boston and Manuel F. Grace of Burlington, MA; a brother, Gene A. Mendes of New Bedford; several cousins, aunts and uncles, a niece and a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford, Monday, July 28th at 11 AM.
Visiting hours Sunday, July 28th from 7-9 PM.
Interment Rural Cemetery.
Kim L. Reis

Kim L. Reis, 34, of New Bedford died July 24, 2003, unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Raymond Selby and Evelyn Andrade.
Kim was born in Jersey City, NJ and had lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She loved her children.
Survivors include 4 brothers, Wayne, Juan, Gerald and Damon; 3 sisters, Antoinette, Leslie and Odia; a son; 3 daughters; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ashley, Kenneth and Leon.
Her visting hours will be held on Thursday, July 31st from 7-9 PM.
Burial will be private.
Philip W. Ferreira
July 21, 2003
Philip W. Ferreira, 53, of New Bedford died Monday July 21, 2003 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the son of Lillian (LeBeau) Soule of New Bedford and the late William Ferreira.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Ferreira was employed as maintenance man for the Aerovox Corporation and a machine operator for Acushnet Rubber Company.
Mr. Ferreira served in the U.S. Army with the 173rd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Army Commendation Medal for the performance of exceptionally meritorious service, the National Defense Medal, Parachute Badge with one Overseas Bar, Expert Badge M-16, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Crewman Badge, the Sharpshooter Badge M-14. After his tour of duty with the 173rd, he requested to be reassigned to the 189th Assault Helicopter Company where he served as a door gunner.
Survivors include his mother; his companion, Karen O'Neil, and her three children, of New Bedford; a daughter, Melissa Ferreira; a stepbrother, Wayne Soule of New Bedford, several grandchildren, several aunts and uncles.
His Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday July 30, 2003 at 2:15 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Shaun Tomas Hunt

Shaun Tomas "Tom" Hunt, 20, of 31 East Fourth St., Collegeville, Pennsylvania died Saturday July 12, 2003 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Perkiomen Township. He was the son of Shaun A. and Susan A. (Boodry) Hunt of Collegeville.
Born in Salem, MA, he lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland, before moving to Collegeville several years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Eleanor Roman Catholic Church.
Tom was employed by Mainline Security in Bryn Mawr.
He was a 2001 graduate of Perkiomen Valley High School, where he was on the ROTC Rifle team, track team, wrestling team, and soccer team. He later attended Kutztown University to study to be a teacher. While at college, he discovered his love for rugby. He loved children and was especially gifted in handling difficult children. He had worked for the YMCA and the Perkiomen School District summer camp.
Tom's favorite loves were his family and friends. He was very proud of his cars. He was constantly washing and waxing his jeep and a recent Ford Thunderbird.
Survivors include his parents; 2 brothers, Seamus P. Hunt and Edward H. "Ned" Hunt, both of Collegeville; his grandmothers, Helen (Radock) Boodry of Clinton, MA and Dorothy (Hackett) Hunt of South Dartmouth; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was the grandson of the late Harry Carter Hunt and Paul Boodry.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday July 15, 2003 in St. Eleanor Roman Catholic Church in Collegeville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Collegeville Borough Parks and Recreation Department, 491 E. Main St., Collegeville, PA 19426, or to the Perkiomen Trail Coalition, P.O. Steven A. Costa
July 29, 2003
Steven A. "Pork Chop" Costa, 44, of New Bedford died Tuesday July 29, 2003 at home after a long illness. He was the son of Barbara (Camara) Seamans and Manuel Costa, both of New Bedford.
Mr. Costa was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball.
Survivors include his parents; his stepfather, Robert Seamans of New Bedford; 2 sons, Cory Costa and Chad Costa, both of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Randall Costa, and Bruce Costa and his wife Kathy, all of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Rhonda Costa, and her companion Jesse Velez, Sandra Seamans and Christine Seamans, all of New Bedford; 3 nieces; 2 nephews; and a great-nephew. He was the brother of the late Christopher Seamans.
His Graveside Services will be held on Friday August 1, 2003 at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Thursday evening from 7-9 PM.
Edwin J. McQuillan

Edwin J. McQuillan, 86, of South Dartmouth, died at home February 15, 2004, after a long illness. He was the widower of Mary J. (Palmer) McQuillan.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Dr. Edwin J. and Elizabeth (McCrohan) McQuillan, he lived most of his life in Fairhaven and the past 21 years in South Dartmouth.
Mr. McQuillan was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Fairhaven, achieving the rank of postmaster and retiring in 1975. He later established a business, A.V. Services, repairing audiovisual equipment for SouthCoast schools, and he also sold real estate.
He was a member of the Volunteer Council of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, New Bedford Port Society, St. Vincent dePaul Society of his parish, American Legion, Post 166, Fairhaven Improvement Association, Fairhaven Historical Society, Fairhaven High School Alumni Association, Friends of Ernestina and Coalition for Buzzards Bay. He was a past member of St. Joseph's Church Couples Club.
In September 1993, he was recognized by the Fairhaven Improvement Association for his outstanding public service. "He's one of those quiet people you don't always see up front, but who has done a lot for the town, " association president Robert Hamilton said at the time, also crediting him for helping make the annual Homecoming Fair the event it has become and for working to ensure the preservation of the Fairhaven Academy Building.
He also was saluted by the New Bedford Whaling Museum for his years of service when he retired from volunteering at age 80. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about whaling history.
He was an avid saltwater fisherman and shell fisherman who delighted in nature, and passed that enthusiasm on to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife in their retirement years, visiting such places as Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii.
He was a quiet man who loved spending time with his family and took pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
From 1942-46, he served with the 19th Base Post Office, U.S. Army, and his duties took him to India and China.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Anne McQuillan and her husband, Fred Sterner, of East Freetown, Elizabeth McQuillan of La Jolla, Calif., Martha McAfee and her husband, William, of Fairhaven, Trish Ashworth and her husband, Glenn, of Tiverton, R.I., and Joanna Weeks and her husband, Loring, of Fairhaven; two brothers, Frank McQuillan of Centerville and Alfred McQuillan and his wife, Patricia, of Fairhaven; four grandchildren, Katherine McAfee of Brighton, Joshua Renfree of New York City, Adam Renfree of La Jolla and Stephen McAfee of Fairhaven; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the brother of the late John McQuillan and Daniel McQuillan.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, February 21st at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday, February 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

William A. Kearney, Jr.

William A. Kearney, Jr., 48, of Fort Myers, Florida died unexpectedly from cardiac trauma on February 8, 2004.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William A. and Mildred F. (Ward) Kearney, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life before moving to Florida in 1997.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Kearney was a graduate of Holy Family Grammar School, Bishop Connolly High School and Southeastern Massachusetts University.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Anne Marie Johnson, and her husband David A., of Grapevine, Texas, Patricia M. Kearney of Arlington, Virginia, and Maureen A. Kearney of Rockville, Maryland; 2 aunts, Betty Letoile of Providence, Rhode Island and Dorothy Kearney of New Bedford; and numerous cousins and friends.
