Jon J. Dobias
MILLERS FALLS - Jon J. Dobias 53, of 24 Grand Ave., died Friday (8-15-08) at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester.
He was born in Greenfield, Dec. 26, 1954, the son of Alfred and Ethel(Burrows) Dobias.
He attended Turners Falls High School and also Smith Vocational School.
Jon was a mechanic for B. Rubin and Sons in Turners Falls for over 30 years. He retired from the Massachusetts National Guard in 2002 after 25 years of service attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Jon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and NASCAR. He was an avid motorcyclist being a life member of the Mohawk Ramblers Motorcycle Club having served as president, vice-president and treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion in Haydenville and the St. Kaziemerz Society. Also he was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
He leaves his mother Ethel Dobias Wolfram of Turners Falls, his loving wife, the former Janet M. Konvelski; a son, Jason Watroba and his wife Kim of Millers Falls; a daughter, Jenn Eichorn and her husband Erik of Montague; three brothers, David of Turners Falls, Wayne of South Deerfield, and Dennis of Turners Falls; four sisters Beth Hanson of Las Vegas, Nev., Valeri Rucki of Lake Park, Ga., Theresa Prevett of Gill, and Andrea Laible of Grand Junction, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Jon also leaves four grandchildren, Riley J., Ivy L., Kolby J. Watroba and Ethan A. Eichorn, several nieces and nephews, a stepson Nathan, and a stepdaughter Karen as well as four stepsisters and three stepbrothers.
Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Verne Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jill E. Felton
ERVING - Jill E. Felton, 54, of 65 French King Highway, died Friday (8-15-08) at home.
Jill was born in Greenfield on Dec. 5, 1953, the daughter of George and Jacquelin (Turner) Felton.
She was a graduate of Ralph C. Mahar Regional School, Class of 1971. Jill continued her education and graduated from Greenfield Community College, Thompson School of Nursing and University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a master's degree as a nurse practitioner. Jill was a charge registered nurse at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst for the past 10 years where she was recently awarded her 10-year pin.
She was Past Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls of Orange, an avid reader who loved to collect frogs. Jill's greatest passion was her work in the nursing profession and helping others.
Her survivors include her mother, Jacquelin Felton; her sister, Nancy J. Felton; and a nephew, Matthew B. Felton, all of Erving; and several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Highland cemetery in Millers Falls.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, in care of Ralph Semb, P.O. Box 99, Erving MA 01344.
Zoe S. Clark
GREENFIELD - Zoe Saige Clark was stillborn on Monday (8-11-08) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, the daughter of Robin Leuthner and Brad Clark.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph DiDonato, pastor, officiating.
There are no calling hours.

Theodore F. Sigda
GREENFIELD - Theodore "Ted" F. Sigda, 95, of 643 Bernardston Road died Tuesday (8-5-08) at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke.
He was born in Holyoke on Aug. 10, 1912, the son of Frank and Katherine (Matuszck) Sigda.
After his graduation from Holyoke High School, Ted worked for pro Mac Sennett at the Country Club of Greenfield and accompanied him to Altamonte Springs, Fla., during winters at San Lando Golf Club. He then was employed by New England Power Co. in Shelburne Falls, where he met Claire.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, serving in the European theater, attaining the rank of captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Ted received an Associate's degree under the GI Bill at Mass. State College, now the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Ted was the founder and proprietor of Sigda Flower Shop from 1948 until 1980, when his son, Rick, took over the business.
Ted loved golf and his friends at the Country Club of Greenfield. He was formerly a member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks and the Greenfield Lion's Club.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former Claire W. Serenbetz; two sons, Tom and his wife Carol of South Londonderry, Vt., and Rick and his wife Sue of Greenfield; a grandson Ben Sigda and his fiancee Audry Harris of Jamaica Plain; two sisters-in-law, Reggie Sigda of Farmington, Conn., and Doris Siegler of Glen Mills, Pa., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Charles S. Durant
MILLERS FALLS - Charles S. "Butch" Durant, 64, of 446 Millers Falls Road, passed away Friday (8-1-08) at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Turners Falls on Sept. 23, 1943, the son of Charles B. and Gladys (McKechnie) Durant. He graduated in 1962 from Turners Falls High School.
Butch was a U.S. Navy Vietnam, veteran serving on the USS McKean from 1962-1966. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Action Medal. A letter was sent from the commanding officer of commendation expressing appreciation for Charles' superior performance of duty when under fire in Vietnam. He was in the National Guard in 1975.
Butch was a teacher at the Baran Institute for three years. He and his wife Norma were professional truck drivers. They drove as a team cross country and Charles loved seeing the mountains out west.
He loved riding his motorcycle, playing cards and golfing. His greatest joy was golfing in Florida were he lived until he became sick with cancer. He enjoyed picking oranges from the trees on the golf course with Norma.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union 404 and Daly-Solomon VFW Post 923.
Beside his wife Norma (Wright) Weclome Durant of 34 years, he leaves two sons John of
Deerfield and Mark of East Greenfield; a stepson Kurt Weclome of Montague City; two stepdaughters, Debbie Trenholm of Northfield and Bonnie Weclome of Turners Falls, and a sister, Barbara Moore of St. Helen, MI. He leaves six grandchildren and one great-grandson; he adored them all. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday (8-4-08) at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Springdale cemetery in Turners Falls.
A calling hour will be Monday10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

TURNERS FALLS - Sharon A. (Peavey) Lentner, 50, formerly of Easthampton, died Tuesday (7-29-08) at the Farren Care Center in Montague City.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Doris M. Peters
GREENFIELD - Doris Mae (Barnes) Peters, 89, of 54 High St., Weldon House, died Friday (7-25-08) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
She was born in Greenfield on Feb. 4, 1919, the daughter of Herbert and Edith (Jackson) Barnes. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School and had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.
Doris was a visiting nurse for Franklin County Home Care Corp. for several years, retiring in 1984. Previously, she was an elevator operator at the former Weldon Hotel.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was very active in the Greenfield Senior Center.
Doris was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and walking.
Her husband, John P. Peters, predeceased her in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Herbert and his wife Phyllis of Temperance, MI; a daughter, Roberta Russell and her husband Clayton of Philadelphia, PA; two grandchildren, Michele McFall and Kimberly Guy; five great-grandchildren, Marcus, William, Dominique, Jordan and Kyra, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Will Seals, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.
A calling hour at the church will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Elsie E. Ostrowski
GREENFIELD - Elsie E. Ostrowski, 84, of 29 Franklin St., died Friday (7-25-08) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born in Montague on June 5, 1924, the daughter of Theophile and Eva (Senk) Ostrowski. She was a graduate of Turners Falls High School and had been a resident of Greenfield most of her life.
Elsie was employed by the Town of Greenfield Tax Collectors Office for 20 years, retiring as an administrative assistant in 2003. Previously, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Hamilton Interiors and the former Fiske & Strecker Drugstore.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Turners Falls and was a lector. She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Guild.
Elsie was a member of the Council on Aging and a volunteer at the Greenfield Senior Center.
Elsie enjoyed trips to Cape Cod, reading and her cats.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Grant and his wife Louise of Waban, and many cousins and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her longtime companion, James E. Fox, who died March 17, 1992. Also, she was predeceased by her siblings, William, Helen, Lillian, Edith and Mildred, and a niece, Marsha Bass, in 2000.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery.
A calling hour at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls, will be Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
