SELMA M. "MARY" (KALLIO) ISRAELIAN
September 29, 1920 - July 1, 2007
Tempe, AZ - Selma M. "Mary" (Kallio) Israelian, 86, passed away after a short illness on July 1st at the home she shared with her daughter, Diane Penrose and son-in- law, Michael Penrose in Tempe, Arizona. She leaves her daughter, Mary O'Mara wife of Daniel O'Mara of Melrose; two grandchildren, Garrett Holway of Chandler, AZ; Sean O'Mara of Melrose; several nieces and nephews. Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Luke S. Israelian and a son, Luke D. Israelian. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Herman and Naimi (Martinmaki) Kallio, and spent most of her life there. She worked at the former Orchard Hill Dairy and then at Crown Bakery until her retirement. She moved to Arizona in 1999. She had a great love of the outdoors and spent many of her retirement years bird watching and caring for animals.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Selma's family on Saturday, July 7th from 9-10 am at Britton Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Selma's funeral service will be held at 10am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to a charity that works for the protection of animals either domestic or wild.
John S. "Pa" Ivashek, Jr.
May 2, 1931 - September 23, 2007
SPENCER, MA - John S. "Pa" Ivashek, Jr., 76, formerly of Auburn and East Sandwich, died Sunday, September 23rd in the Radius Healthcare Center, Worcester.
His wife, Marlene M. (Salo) Ivashek died in 1989.
He leaves his five children, Leanne Ivashek and her fianc, James Fitzgerald of Spencer, with whom he lived, Karen L. Temple of Worcester, Nancy J. Monfette and her husband Michael of Hudson, NH, Lisa C. Burley and her husband Jeff of Oxford, and Stephen J. Ivashek and his wife Michelle of Auburn; and his seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Jason, Eric, Emily, Christopher, David, and Kelly.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late John S. Ivashek, Sr. and Anna (Tamulewicz) Ivashek and lived in Auburn for 22 years. He then moved to East Sandwich, where he lived for 13 years, returning to the area in 1992.
He served with the US Army for several years. Mr. Ivashek was the owner/operator of the former Southbridge Street Texaco in Auburn. He then moved to Cape Cod worked for the Hyannis Texaco, and then was the manager of Kevin's Cedarville Sunoco in Sandwich for 11 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn, and a former member of the Auburn Council, Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and lobstering, camping, playing cribbage, was an excellent cook, and always looked forward to Keno at Christo's in Worcester.
The Ivashek family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Radius at Worcester for the kind and compassionate care given to John during his stay there.

Joseph J. Janaitis
October 26, 1920 - September 7, 2007
AUBURN, MA - Joseph J. Janaitis, 86, of Field St., died Friday September 7th in the Dodge Park Rest Home, Worcester.
His beloved wife Helen T. (Biegay) Janaitis died in 1996.
He leaves his three children, Patricia E. Janaitis of Auburn, Michael J. Janaitis and his wife Cheryl of Jefferson, and Helen C. Hurley and her husband James of Worester; his three brothers, John Janaitis of Worcester, Charles Janaitis of Shrewsbury, and Peter Janaitis of Thompsonville, CT; his sister, Ann Janaitis of Millbury; his three grandchildren, Timothy M., Laura A., and Sharon M. Janaitis, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his four bothers, Frank B., Benjamin, Anthony, and Allen Janaitis, and his sister, Mildred Swidrak.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late Sylvester and Barbara (Cinsky) Janaitis and has lived in Auburn for many years. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army in the European African Middle Eastern, and Asiatic Pacific Theaters as a Military Policeman.
Mr. Janaitis retired in 1981 from the Wyman-Gordon Co., Worcester plant, where he worked as a forge shop inspector. He was a member of North American Martyrs Parish in Auburn, a member and past president of the Elm Hill Civic Club, and had served as a town meeting member for Auburn for several years. He was also a past member of the Lithuanian War Veterans Club. He loved sports, especially the New York Yankees.

Malcolm Francis Johnson
June 5, 1925 - December 1, 2005
SHREWSBURY - Malcolm F. Johnson, 80, of Edgemere Boulevard, and Harwichport and Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., died Thursday, December 1st in the UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus, after an illness.
His wife of 49 years, Lourdes J. (Hanlon) Johnson died in 2000.
He leaves his daughter, Kathleen M. Lawton of Shrewsbury; his son, William L. Johnson of Vasalboro, ME and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Paul M. "Booga" Johnson in 1996, and by his two brothers, Earl and Lambert Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was born in Worcester, a son of the late Lambert and Genevieve (Wood) Johnson ad was a longtime Shrewsbury resident. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School and at the age of 17 he entered the US Navy during World War II. He was stationed for 3 years in the South Pacific, where he worked to repair ships in dry dock. Upon his return to Shrewsbury, Malcolm began a 37 years career with New England Telephone, where he specialized in trouble shooting teletype lines. He also was a partner and co-owner of Edgemere Liquors in Shrewsbury for many years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Worcester, the Victor Quaranta American Legion Post in Shrewsbury and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time he spent with his wife by the beach, but mostly will be remembered as always being there for all of his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Joel Paul Johnson
July 9, 1974 - January 7, 2006
NORTHBOROUGH / SHREWSBURY - Joel P. Johnson, 31, of Northborough and Shrewsbury died Saturday, January 7th in his home after being stricken ill.
Joel leaves his wife, Laura L. Valerio of Northborough; his mother, Pamela C. Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; his father, Richard J. Donato of Bridgewater; a daughter, Taylor Cournoyer of Mansfield, MA; a half brother, Matthew Donato of Bridgewater; his maternal grandparents Vernon Johnson of Shrewsbury and Joyce (Kender) Johnson of West Brookfield; his paternal grandmother, Joan S. (Winans) Donato of Shrewsbury; also survived by many aunts, uncles cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Philip F. Donato, Sr.
Mr. Johnson was born in Worcester and had lived most of his life in Shrewsbury before he moved to Northborough. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1991. While Joel was attending Shrewsbury High School he excelled in all the sports programs that he was involved in.
Joel's true passion was for sports, tennis, volleyball and especially for the game of golf. This lead him to having worked for the past 8 years as a golf teaching professional for East Coast Golf in Northborough. Previously, he found himself being employed by several prestigious golf courses across the United States. He was a member of Sterling Country Club and had won several tournaments through the years.
Joel had a lively spirit and was bigger than life to everyone that knew him.

Everett W. Johnson
May 31, 1920 - September 1, 2006
AUBURN, MA - Everett W. Johnson, 86, of Greenwood Drive, died Saturday, in the Life Care Center of Auburn, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years; Beverly A. (Mason) Johnson, of Auburn, his children; Philip E. "Johnny" Johnson, of Northborough, Carol A. Banks of Spencer, Kenneth G. Johnson of Auburn, and Nancy L. Scola of Palo Alto, CA., 9 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
He was born in Worcester, the son of the late George and Edna (Baxter) Johnson; he was raised and educated in Worcester.
Mr. Johnson worked as a foreman for many years in his families business; Pobco Manufacturing in Worcester, before going to work for Astra Pharmaceutical, where he worked as a Sterile Room Mechanic for 18 years.
He loved to fish and to hunt, and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Jean Carolyn (Trombly) Johnson

West Dennis, MA - Jean C. (Trombly) Johnson, 74, of Old Jail House Lane, formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday in her home after an illness.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Francis J. Johnson, Sr., her 7 children; Francis J. Johnson, Jr. of Truro, David C. Johnson, of Dennis, Judith M. Russell, Betty J. Padden, Thomas M. Johnson, Penny A. Hetel, and Christine A. Messier, all of Auburn, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; she also leaves a brother, Clifton G. Trombly, Jr. of Charlton, and a sister, Deborah J. McCabe, of Shrewsbury. She was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Russell, in 2001.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Clifton G. and Lilian R. (Anderson) Trombly; and was raised and educated in Auburn. She was a 1949 graduate of Auburn High School.
Mrs. Johnson, along with her husband Francis, owned and operated the Pine Cove Inn, in West Dennis for over 20 years, retiring in 2000.
She was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph's Church in Auburn. Jean possessed a great faith. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family. She was a true gift to all who knew her. We shall cherish our memories of her along with her warmth, compassion, and great sense of humor.

Paul R. Johnson, Jr.
March 22, 1944 - November 16, 2006
Sutton - Paul R. Johnson, Jr., 62, of Douglas Rd., died at home on Thursday, November 16th.
He leaves his devoted wife of 22 years, Sandra L. (Kareokowsky) Johnson; his two daughters, Deana M. Tata and her husband Peter J. of Shrewsbury, and Julianna M. Johnson of Sutton; his two sisters, Barbara J. Navickas and her husband Anthony of Auburn, and Debra L. Bateman and her husband Warren of Dennisport; his brother, Stephen P. Johnson of Auburn; his two granddaughters, Olivia and Gianna Tata; his nieces and nephews, Kayla, Christie, Kerry, Brett, and Clay; his brother-in-law, Frederick Kareokowsky and his wife Elaine of Slidell, LA; and many close friends, especially his loyal "Brandy the Champion". He was predeceased by his father and mother, Paul R. and Marion B. (Johnson) Johnson, his sister, Judith A. Johnson, and his nephew, Ryan A. Aukstikalnis.
He was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn. He graduated from Auburn High School and the Worcester Industrial Tech.
Prior to his retirement, Paul worked as a senior sales engineer and New England regional manager for the Dana Corporation, later Dana-Warner Electric, for more than 30 years. In his younger years, Paul was known as "The Bouncer" at the former Peacock Club in Auburn.
He was an avid golfer and former member of Cohasse Country Club, Southbridge where he proudly made a Hole in One, and Quinatisette Country Club, Thompson, CT. He cherished his home in West Yarmouth, Cape Cod and especially loved the beaches there. Another special place for Paul was his home on Webster Lake, where he spent many hours on his "party boat". He was an enthusiastic collector of cars, and was admired for being a "jack of all trades". As a man who was bigger than life, "He was always there for his family and friends", who will loving remember him as "Buddy", "P.J.", and "The Bargain".

Josephine F. (Belisle) Johnson
April 17, 1917 - October 18, 2007
WORCESTER - Josephine F. (Belisle) Johnson, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 18, 2007 in St. Vincent Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by a son, David C. Johnson, with whom she lived and a daughter, Sandra D. Sjoberg of Auburn. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Karin L. Sjoberg of Shrewsbury and Penny L. (Sjoberg) Ellsworth of Auburn; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. Her husband, Hugo "Jack" A. Johnson and her sister, Evelyn M. (Belisle) Lorenz predeceased her.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Florence A. (Engstrom) Belisle and had been a resident of Worcester all her life. She graduated from Commerce High School.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a Payroll Supervisor for Anderson Products Inc. in Worcester for over 25 years before retiring in 1988. She was a devoted lifetime member of Hadwen Park Church serving many years as their Choir Director and Financial Secretary. She was a member of the Alert Group in the Women's Fellowship at church and served on numerous boards and committees. She especially enjoyed The Bible Study Group. She was also a member of The American Union of Swedish Singers, The Nordic Lodge of VASA Order of America, The Auburn Historical Society, The Greendale Retired Women's Club, The Scandinavian Women's Club and The Health Cabinet of St. Joseph's Church in Auburn.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Exploring the back roads and countryside of New England was another pleasure. Music was her passion in life. She loved to travel, watch birds from her sunroom, solve crossword puzzles, play Yahtzee, Scrabble, Skip-bo and the piano. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 2 P.M. at Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
JOHN A. JOHNSON
November 16, 1940 - October 23, 2007
AUBURN, MA - John A. Johnson, 66, of Warren Road, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at his home after a long illness.
He leaves a wife, Mary R. (McDonald) Johnson; two sons, Robert Johnson and his wife Wendy of Paxton, and Timothy Johnson of Dudley; a sister, Hildred Grusczynski and her husband Joseph; of Queens, NY; 4 grandsons, Daniel, Michael, Steven & Zachary, 1 granddaughter Jillian, many nieces and nephews and in-laws. He is predeceased by his brother William Douglas Johnson.
John was born on the island of Saba in the Netherland Antilles; he is the son of the late John William and Elfreda (Zagers) Johnson. He moved to Queens, New York at age 19. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic school in Curacao; he received a degree from the RCA institute in New York City. Earlier in his life he worked for Northern Insurance Company in New York City and then worked for Hanover Insurance Co. in various managerial roles for 33 years, retiring in 1999. John loved animals, gardening, woodworking, and nature. He was a handyman who could fix just about anything.

Rita M. (Clapp) Jones
April 12, 1936 - November 25, 2006
SHREWSBURY - Rita M. (Clapp) Jones, of 33 Park Street, Shrewsbury died Saturday, November 25th in her home after an illness.
Her husband, Russell G. Jones, Sr. died in 2002. She leaves a step-son, Gerald E. Jones and a step-daughter, Elizabeth "Terri" Stone both of Shrewsbury; a sister-in-law, Persis "Sis" Bailly of Auburn; 7 step grandchildren, 12 step-great grandchildren and several cousins.
Rita was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Robert W. and Rita M. (Ayers) Clapp and was a life long resident of Shrewsbury. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1955.
Mrs. Jones had been employed for 29 years as a librarian for Massachusetts Electric Company before she retired in 1993.
She was a member of Saint Mary's Parish; and was 50 year member and lecturer for the former Shrewsbury Grange. She also loved to do ceramics and crafts of all kinds.
Burial: Wed. November 29, 2006 Mountain View Cemetery
