Theresa A. Grokaitis

WORCESTER - Theresa A. Grokaitis, 74, of Murray Avenue, died Friday, June 30th in the Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston after a short illness.
She is survived by a brother Anthony F. Grokaitis of Auburn; a sister, Dorothy Curry of Orange City, FL and many friends from her neighborhood.
Theresa was born in Worcester, daughter of Anthony F. and Stella (Karpowicz) Grokaitis and lived in Worcester most of her life. She loved to play cards and the lottery.
Her memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 18th at 10 AM in Ascension Church, 40 Vernon St., Worcester. Burial was private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn is assisting the family with arrangements.
Betty Virginia (Rindone) Grover
July 28, 1924 - April 26, 2006
SHREWSBURY - Betty V. (Rindone) Grover, 81, of 3 Eastern Point Dr, Shrewsbury, formerly of Londonderry, New Hampshire died Wednesday, April 26th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus after a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 61 years, Arthur C. Grover, Sr.; five sons, Arthur C. Grover, Jr., and his wife Marie of Salem, N.H., Richard A. Grover and his wife, Wanda of Port Charlotte, Florida; Steven D. Grover of Manchester, N.H., Clifford P. Grover of Derry, N.H. and Dennis C. Grover and his wife, Jayne of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Crystal E. Grover and her fianc, Gary G. Pontbriand of Worcester; two brothers, Louis Rindone of Greenwood, MA and William T. Stretton of Florida; Also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Maury Rindone.
Betty was born in Boston, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Esther (Natkiel) Rindone and had lived in Londonderry, New Hampshire for 50 years, before moving to Shrewsbury 4 years ago.
Mrs. Grover always kept herself pretty busy, she wrote a column for several years for the Derry News, her byline was "Betty Grover with News to Crow About". She also owned and operated the Colonial Bakery in Londonderry for many years. Betty's favorite past time was spending time and enjoying the love of her children and grandchildren.
Betty's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who helped to care for Betty in her final days, especially the staff at UMASS Memorial Medical Center- Memorial Campus.

PRISCILLA M. (DENNIS) GROVES
November 23, 1948 - December 30, 2005
AUBURN, MA - Priscilla M. (Dennis) Groves, 57, of Auburn, died Friday, December 30th in her home surrounded by her family and friends.
She leaves her husband of 33 years, James G. Groves; a son, Bryan J. and his wife Shannon P. Groves of Florida; her mother, Florence (Pavlak) Dennis of Worcester; a brother, Lawrence and his wife, Suzanne of New Jersey; two grandsons, Aidan J. and Brady N. Groves; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Groves was born in St. Louis, Missouri daughter of the late Edgar Dennis and had lived in Auburn for the past 27 years. She graduated from Prouty High School in 1966, Salter Secretarial School in Worcester in 1968 and then had received her B.A. Degree from Clark University. She continued her education by earning her Master of Education Degree from Assumption College.
Priscilla had been a Special Education Teacher in the Worcester School System for over 8 years. Her last 5 years of teaching were at the Chandler Magnet School before she had to leaves due to her illness.
She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church in Auburn and had belonged to several Bible Study Groups. Her memberships included being a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Paul W. Guiney
April 22, 1921 - March 26, 2006
Auburn - Paul W. "Tweet" Guiney, 84, of Auburn and East Dennis, died Sunday, March 26th at home, surrounded by his loving family.
His wife, Jane Ann (Deignan) Guiney died in 1979. He leaves his six children; Patricia Guiney Clarkson of Oxford, Paul F. Guiney and his wife Noreen of Rutland, Kathleen M. Guiney of Auburn, John M. Guiney and his wife Debbie of Worcester, Kevin T. Guiney and his wife Nancy of Holden, and Brian J. Guiney, and his fiancee Dawn Ferreria of Centerville; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer Clarkson, Anna and Magdeliene Guiney, Katelyn Wojnarowicz, Meighan and Brianne Guiney; as well as five great grandchildren, a niece and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother John J. Guiney, Jr., an Army veteran of World War II, who was killed in action in St. Lo, France in 1944.
He was born in Worcester, son of the late John J. and Amelia (Germain) Guiney. He graduated from South High School, Worcester Academy, The College of the Holy Cross class of 1944 and Dartmouth College and the Tuck School of Business under the Navy V12 program. He played varsity baseball for all the schools he attended and later played in the Worcester Industrial Baseball League. He was also a perennial All City Baseball player.
Mr. Guiney was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater. He was stationed aboard the battleship USS New Mexico at the peace signing of 1945 in Japan.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Guiney worked for 46 years as an engineer of New England Telephone and later NYNEX, retiring as the Right of Way Agent.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, the Alumni Club of Holy Cross, the Holy Cross Varsity Club, and the Purple Knights of Holy Cross. He was also a member of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post, Auburn and was a member and past president of the St. Joseph's Social Club. Paul was active in the Auburn Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He was former Deputy Sheriff of Worcester County. He was a member of International Association of Basketball Officials, and twice served as the president of Local Board #26 in Worcester. He was a former president and member of the Board of Directors of the Central Mass Telephone Workers Credit Union, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, March 29th from 5-8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 30th at 11 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial, with Military Honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.

Warren Paul Habacker, Jr.
March 2, 1932 - December 7, 2005
BOYLSTON - Warren P. Habacker, Jr., 73, of Sewall Street, Boylston, formerly of Northborough died Wednesday, December 7th in UMass Memorial Medical Center- Memorial Campus after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Mary P. (Murphy) Habacker; a son, Warren P. and his wife, Karen A. Habacker of Westborough, four daughters, Barbara A. and her husband, Dana Zoy of Auburn, Jean M. and her husband, Stephen R. Giguere of Boylston, Laura Habacker of Chicopee and Eileen Habacker of Boylston; a brother, Ronald P. Habacker of Garden City, New York, and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ellen Habacker, a brother, James Habacker and a sister, Joan Morgan.
Warren was born in Brooklyn New York, son of the late Warren P., Sr. and Juanita (Hagan) Habacker and had lived in Northborough for 26 years before moving to Boylston in 2001. He and his wife also enjoyed spending their winters in their home in Ft. Myers.
He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. Later in Warren's life, when his children where grow he decided to continue his education by attending and graduating from Clark University in Worcester with a Degree in Business Management.
Warren had been employed as a Manager for Sorbus Inc for 30 years before he retired. Mr. Habacker served his country proudly with the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Saint Mary of the Hills Parish in Boylston.

RAYMOND W. HABIB
May 14, 1942 - May 2, 2007
SHREWSBURY - Raymond W. "Ray" Habib, 64, of Grafton Street, Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, May 2nd in the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marjorie C. (Kwiatkowski) Habib; four daughters, Patricia A. Habib of Sturbridge, Debora J. and her husband, Jonathan Foy of Shrewsbury, Tammy L. and her husband, Steven Murphy of Leicester and Terry A. Habib of Shrewsbury; three brothers, Thomas Habib of Carlsbad, California, John Habib of Oakland Park, Florida and Joseph Habib of Paxton; two sisters, Susan Corbett and Ann Marie McPartland, both of Worcester; also survived by 9 grandchildren, Jonathan, Jennifer, Garrett, Kristin, Logan, Daniel, Julia, Raymond and Alexis; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Devault.
Ray was born in Worcester, son of the late Thomas A. and Lucienne (Brisebois) Habib and had lived in Shrewsbury for the past 31 years. He had been employed as a Salesman for the Polar Corporation for many years before he retired due to illness.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 238 in Shrewsbury and also a member of the Alhambra Council # 88 Knights of Columbus in Worcester. Ray served his country in the United States Army serving in Germany. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and collecting his treasures.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 10 A.M. in the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury. Frank R. Hall
May 2, 1916 - December 23, 2006
SHREWSBURY - Frank R. Hall, 90 of 19 Mars Drive, Shrewsbury died Saturday, December 23rd in Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester after an illness.
He leaves 27 nieces and nephews and 42 great nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard, William and Donald and one sister, Katherine.
Mr. Hall was born in Detroit, Michigan son of the late William E. and Anna V. (O'Connor) Hall and had resided in Shrewsbury since 1957. He graduated from Saint Catherine's High School in Detroit, Michigan. Frank was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in many campaigns all over Italy and received a Purple Heart, a Silver Battle Star, 4 Overseas Service Bars for his heroic efforts.
Frank had been employed for over 20 years as the Manager of the Sporting Goods Department for Spag's in Shrewsbury before he retired in the early 1970's.
He was a member of Saint Mary's Parish where he was an usher for many years. He was a proud member of the Picard American Legion Post in Northborough and was a Life long Eagle Scout and troop leader.
Frank also found time to be an ombudsman for several area nursing facilities.

Charles P. "Nipper" Hamilton
April 16, 1932 - June 30, 2006
Auburn - Charles P. "Nipper" Hamilton, Jr., 74, of Elmwood St., died Friday, June 30th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Mary E. (Doherty) Hamilton; his five children, Theresa A. Hamilton and Frances M. Ward, both of Auburn, Victoria L., wife of David Flood of Orange, Charles A. Hamilton, Sr. and his wife Pamela of Leicester, and Anthony P and his wife Dianna of Oxford; his sister, Elizabeth DeRoy of Wallingford, CT; as well as eight grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother, John Hamilton and his sister Mary Graveline.
He was born and raised in Millbury, son of the late Charles P. and Flora (Gendron) Hamilton and lived in Auburn for many years. He graduated from Millbury High School, where he was a member of the varsity football team, and later attended Worcester Boys Trade School and Worcester Junior College.
He was a proud member of the US Air Force during the Korean War, serving in French Morocco and at several United States bases. Following his service time, "Nippper" went to work as a machinist and tool maker for the former Millbury Engineering for 30 years until its' closing. He then worked for United Tool and Die until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling.
Rita K. (Splane) Hanlon
February 3, 1920 - April 19, 2007
AUBURN, MA - Rita K. (Splane) Hanlon, 87, of Curtis St., died Thursday April 19th in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester after a brief illness.
She leaves her husband of 67 years, Edward J. Hanlon; her three children, David P. Hanlon and his wife Suzanne of Newburyport, Nancy Lucey and her husband Edward of Auburn and Mary Stepanski of Worcester; a daughter-in-law, Lianne Hanlon of Oxford; a sister, Madelyn Monahan of West Boylston; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Edward "Chip" Hanlon of Oxford who passed away in 2000 and seven siblings. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late James and Mary (Shea) Splane. She graduated from South High School, where she was an outstanding all-star field hockey and basketball player. She then attended Becker College and Framingham State College. She has lived in Auburn for many years.
Mrs. Hanlon was a proud and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked as a receptionist at the former Hahnemann Hospital, Worcester. She was a member of North American Martyrs' Church and was active in its Women's League, and was former member of the Saint Joseph's Women' League, in Auburn. She served on many committees and excelled in the musical and drama productions that the churches produced. She was a member of the Worcester and Auburn Red Hatters Society, as well as the Dinettes of Worcester. She was a longtime member of the Delta Gamma Mu Sorority. An avid golfer for more than 50 years, Mrs. Hanlon was a member of the Hillcrest Country Club and a former member of the Worcester Country Club.

JACK HARINGA
October 19, 1944 - August 2, 2006
AUBURN, MA - Jack Gerton "Jake" Haringa, 61, of Auburn, died Wednesday, August 2nd at home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rev. Karen L. M. Haringa, pastor of Adams Square Congregational Church; his son Jack M. Haringa and daughter-in law Tomomi; his grandson, Jacob Kai; and his brother, Paul Haringa.
He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Rodgers W. Madison; his mother-in-law, Barbara (McPherson) Madison Kokocinski; nephews, nieces, and cousins; and many friends, especially his "family" and friends of Adams Square Congregational Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Pfc. Edward Herman Haringa, killed in battle April, 1945 and buried in the World War II Netherlands American cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands; and his mother, Harriet (Youngsma) Haringa Bedard.
Jack was born in Rockville, CT, on October 19th, 1944, and attended Uxbridge and Northbridge high schools. He graduated from North Adams State College in 1966, where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi fraternity, and taught science at Hopedale Junior/Senior High School from 1966 to 1978.
From 1978 until this year Jack was the proprietor of Mad Hatter Antiques. Antiques were both his livelihood and his hobby. He was also very active in church activities all his adult life, first at Sutton's First Congregational Church and later at Adams Square in Worcester. At Adams Square he taught Sunday School, served as Head Usher and moderator, and worked on many committees. In past years he supervised and cooked the church suppers as well.
In July of 1985, Jack was the recipient of a heart transplant at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He had one of the fastest recoveries from the operation on record and was one of the longest-lived heart transplant recipients in the United States. For many years he visited with recent transplant patients to offer them hope and encouragement, and he was literally a "poster boy" for the New England Organ Bank.
