Anna H. Dame
GREENFIELD - Anna H. (Harris) Dame, 82, of 10 Congress St., died Monday (3-31-2003) at Franklin Medical Center.
Born in Greenfield on Nov. 26, 1920, she was the daughter of Seymour and Winnifred (Johnson) Harris. She attended local schools in Conway and was a graduate of the former Arms Academy. She had been a resident of Greenfield for many years.
She was employed for the University of Massachusetts as a food buyer for over 15 years, retiring in 1986. Previously, she was employed at the Millers Falls Tool Company and the Greenfield Tap & Die.
She was an avid sports fan and a scorekeeper for many various baseball games. She was an avid Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics fan.
In her earlier years, she was a Girl Scout leader. She loved the ocean and enjoyed horse racing.
Her husband, Russell F. Dame died July 31, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Richard S. and his wife, Debbie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Christine T. Tyler and her husband David of Greenfield; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Dame of Turners Falls; a sister Ruth Norwood of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Randy St. Germain of Connecticut, Russell St. Germain of Chicago, Ill., Ryan St. Germain of Greenfield, Becky and Michelle Dame, both of Turners Falls, Kristy Geoff of Jacksonville and Larry Anderson of Florida; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Robert Bones F. Dame died Feb. 25, 2002.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. A calling hour will be held Saturday at the funeral home at 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Gary S. Snyder
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - Gary Stephen Snyder, 48, of Hillwinds North died Sunday (3-30-2003) at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Born in Providence, R.I., June 17, 1954, he was the son of Robert and Claire (Gaskill) Snyder. He lived most of his life in Belmont and Benson. He graduated from Gordon College in Ipswich, Mass., with a bachelor of arts degree in English. He remained in the Boston area working for the U.S. Postal Service.
He married
the former Laima Pauliukonis in 1991. They settled in southern Worcester County. He began graduate studies in archaeology at the State University of New York at Albany, but transferred to the University of Connecticut after a year. His first son was born in 1993. He and his family moved to Brattleboro in 1996.
In September 2000, he traveled to Bulgaria to bring home his second son. In 2002, he completed studies at Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls, Mass., and opened his photography business in Brattleboro.
He was a lover of the English language and liked to learn new languages and the cultures that created them. He valued handmade things and learned to use a potters wheel in recent years. He liked plants and flowers, the Red Sox, high school wrestling, children, karate, swimming and snorkeling, whitewater rafting, reading, traveling and photography. He enjoyed jazz and often hosted jams at his home.
Besides his mother of Benson and his wife, he leaves two sons, Adam, 9, and Salim, 8; a sister, Gail Hairston of Andover; his parents in law; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The liturgy, in celebration of his life will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Episcopal Church followed by a reception in the undercroft.
Calling hours at the Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home, Western Avenue, will be Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro, VT 05301, to be distributed later among local charities according to the familys instructions. Snyder planned and served many free community suppers at St. Michaels, and a portion of this memorial will be used to continue this legacy.
Ruth A. Allen
GREENFIELD - Ruth A. (Atherton) Allen, 89, formerly of 60 Freeman Drive died Tuesday (4-1-2003) at the Center for Extended Care, Amherst.
She was the widow of Stanley C. Allen, who died April 19, 1979.
Born in Bernardston, April 10, 1913, she was the daughter of Raymond and Blanche (Chapin) Atherton. She attended Bernardston schools. She moved to Greenfield from Bernardston in 1988, and from Greenfield to Amherst in 2001.
Allen was employed by the Millers Falls Co. from 1942 to 1945, and was a sales representative at Wilsons Department Store for 20 years, retiring in 1978. After her retirement, she made visits to the elderly through Franklin County Home Care Corp.
She was a member of the United Church of Bernardston.
She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, sewing, cooking and reading.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas S. of Bernardston, Gerry K. of Greenfield and Roger F. and his wife, Patricia, of Fruitland Park, Fla.; a daughter, Beverly J. Perkins and her husband, Gil, of Enfield, Conn.; two sisters, Beryl Jillson of Keene, N.H., and Helen Workman of Concord, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Ann Allen of Millers Falls.
Graveside services will be held April 12 at 10 a.m. at Center cemetery in Bernardston with the Rev. Alice L. ODonovan, interim pastor of the United Church officiating.
There are no calling hours.

Edward Graves
WALPOLE, N.H. - Edward Ned Graves, 76, of Walpole died Monday (3-31-2003) at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester. He was the father of Emily Graves of Greenfield, Mass.
Born in Walpole, Nov. 21, 1926, he was the son of Tom and Helen (Willson) Graves. He was a graduate of Walpole High School.
Graves joined the Marine Corps right out of high school and served during World War II on the USS Pennsylvania.
He was a truck driver and had worked in construction and farming in the Walpole area.
Graves was a member of American Legion, Bridge-Wilson Post 77 in Walpole.
He was a golfer, Yankees fan, and enjoyed ship reunions. He also supported Fall Mountain High School sports teams.
Besides his daughter, he leaves two sons, Daryl of Arlington, Mass., and James of Keene; another daughter, Kathy Ames of Lebanon; a brother, William of Keene; two sisters, Marjorie Fry and Becky Hubbard, both of Walpole, and seven grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the American Legion on Turnpike Street.

George W. Hayes Sr.,
Linden Hill School founder
SILVERDALE, Wash. - George Warren Hayes Sr., 92, died March 21, in Silverdale.
Born in Morsemere, N.J., March 6, 1911, he was the son of George Washburn and Helen (Barkley) Hayes.
Hayes is best known as the founder and former director of Linden Hill School in Northfield, Mass., from which he retired in 1974. He had also taught remedial reading and English at Northfield and Mount Hermon schools for many years.
He was also the author of a book of children's stories, The School Bell Storybook, and a history of the early years of Linden Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Pearl Wiggand; a son, George W. Jr. of Suquamish; a daughter, Carolyn Moes of Vermilion, Ohio, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held May 4 at 2 p.m. at Linden Hill School.

Lillian I. Bomely
BENNINGTON, Vt. - Lillian I. Bomely, 93, of Bennington, former resident of Greenfield, Mass., died March 12 at Southwestern Vermont Health Care for Living and Rehab.
Bomely was a graduate of Catherine Gibbs in Boston, Mass.
Her husband, William K. Bomely, predeceased her.
Survivors include a son, William C. of Marlowe, N.H.; a daughter, Carol Donald of West Dover; a sister, Helen Smith of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation handled by Eternal Flame Crematorium in Brattleboro.
Dorothy G. Cleveland
WENDELL - Dorothy G. (Lowe) Cleveland, 61, of 426 Jennnison Road, died Thursday (3-27-2003) at home from cancer.
She graduated from high school in Beverly, earned a bachelor degree in education at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a masters degree in education administration from Cambridge University, Cambridge.
Cleveland devoted her personal and professional life to nurturing the growth and development of young people.
She worked for Headstart in Franklin, Worcester, and Hampden Counties and most recently was the director of the Child Care Development Center at Keene State College. She was a founding member of the Cheshire Childrens Network and was appointed by Keene Mayor Michael J. Blastos to the Task Force on Childcare. She was on the Board of Directors for Child First, a childcare advocacy organization, a Board member of the Council of Child Development Laboratory Administrators and was active in the Monadnock Partnership for Children, all in Keene. She was also on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Wendell.
She leaves her husband of 40 years, Parker Cleveland; two daughters, Chrystina Cleveland and Cara Cleveland, both of Orange, and a brother, Owen W. Lowe of Winchester, Va.
Calling hours will be at the Town Hall, On the Common in Wendell, on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Children are welcome.
A celebration of her life will be in June at a date and time to be announced.

Glenn D. Hutchins
DOVER, Pa. - Glenn Douglas Hutchins, 34, of Dover, formerly of Northfield, Mass., died Thursday (3-27-2003) at home.
He was the husband of the former Tracy L. Twitchell. The couple observed their 10th wedding anniversary on March 27.
Born in Chula Vista, Calif., May 9, 1968, he was the son of Clayton D. and Bonnie C. (Foultz) Hutchins of Peach Bottom, Pa. He graduated in 1986 from Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield and received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University, Boston.
Hutchins was a professional engineer and had worked for a year at Pennoni Associates in Mechanicsburg. Previously, he was employed for four years at LSC Design in York, and four years at Gannett Flemming at Camp Hill.
He attended Rohler's Assembly of God.
He is also survived by three sons, Joshua D., Daniel D. and David D., and a daughter, Sarah E. Hutchins, all of Dover; a brother Steven W. of Woodbridge, Va.
A daughter Amanda C., predeceased him.
Service are this morning at 10 at Rohler's Assembly of God with the Rev. Edward J. Rowand officiating. Burial will follow in Emanuel Cemetery.
